rom manager can sometimes create issues. im still not sure why people use it when you can easily flash cwm recovery through odin and it only takes about 2 seconds. im sure you didnt make a backup considering you were trying to flash recovery. the only thing you can do now is flash a stock rom via Odin now to get back up and running. for the future i would suggest you flash cwm through odin instead of trying to do it via rom manager.
thank you so much for responding. ok I think I might have odin installed on my pc. it says "odin in a nutshell". honestly I have no idea how to use it.

I don't know if what I am doing in completely correct. This is what I did: I Rooted it with super one click the phone had stock android 2.1, then installed rom manager. I installed recovery from rom manager, then proceeded to do up vol/down vol/power and go in to the 2e recovery then I have to press reinstall packages. Is the last step always necessary? Do I always have to go in to 2e recovery and press reinstall packages to get to clock work recovery?

reinstall packages, the phone will restart into stock recovery i think then reinstall again and it will go to clockwork recovery, then everytime you go to recovery it should go straight to clockwork
if it doesnt delete your update.zip off the sd and get it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
then just do what i said above and that should work
theres been something dodgy with rom manager not flashing it properly, the update.zip in the link is what s15274n took straight off his phone so theres no need to flash it with rom manager anymore, dont think theres any need to root either, just put that on reinstall twice then your in clockwork
^ Thanks, yeah... really pay notice to option A/B in that thread. I prefer B and just flash my rom immediately (which has root access).
As the title says, before I knew not to install Rom Manager, I installed it. I used Rom Manager to install CWM. However, when I try to boot into CWM, I get the "Android system recovery <3e>" in blue lettering. I have uninstalled Rom Manager, but is there anything else I need to do to clean up anything Rom Manager might have done?
thanks
I did it too, not sure if its bad or ok?
It is OKAY to install rom manager and will not create an issue just having it installed. What you cannot do right now correctly is get it to go into cwm correctly on stock roms.
(It works flawless on cm7 and I use it daily or every couple days. I have even used it to back up the STOCK Samsung rom and cm7 roms. I have then in turn went from cm7 back to stock via cwm with the backed up copy I made with rom manager).
Once you see the cwm3 recovery just reboot phone, turn it back off, three finger salute until you see the Samsung galaxy s screen and let go of the buttons. This will get you back to the proper cwm to install roms.

First you need to download this SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar
kernel, here is the link: http://www.multiupload.com/QQKN7NJAFT
Go into download mode and flash with ODIN.
After doing that you need to ROOT the phone using "SuperOneClick" rooter which
can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285894
Once you get done with these two steps sucessfully you will be good to go and will be able
to flash any custom rom found in this forum. You will also have the CWM recovery screen too.
(notice: I did NOT say anything about rom manager in any of the two above steps )
Good Luck
Thank you very much for your replies. I am currently running a "rooted" stock rom. Are you saying that I will need to re-root the phone after installing SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar?
Thanks for your help.

If you are really are rooted now then just do step #1 afterwards just make
sure that there is an app installed called "superuser" if you cannot find that
app that means that you are not rooted and will need to root again.
Hi Misterjunky
Thank you for your post
I had exact same problem: installed and run ROM manager before read
Instead use the method you method: flash with ODIN. can I use Mobile Odin Lite mentioned here?

BTW, my S2 was already rooted

I was trying to switch my phone over to CWM from TWRP. I tried flashing using ROM manager but it was always rewritten. I decided to grab the .img file from the CWM site and flash it in terminal emulator like I had done with TWRP before. It seemed to flash but when i rebooted I got the message that the system software was not authorized. I thought the file I downloaded was loki but I guess not. Do I have to odin back to stock now or is there another method?
So I just realized it was being stupid and was stuck trying to boot recovery. I booted to download mode and selected cancel to force it out of this loop. Once it did this I was able to boot the system and restore a proper recovery.
On a side note, does anyone know why flashing CWM doesn't stick. I read some things about the recovery being flashed every boot but all the information was out dated, I couldn't find anything about the S4.

ROM manager does work...try flashing then reboot at least once before booting recovery...and if you are running a stock tw rom some will attemt to overwrite custom recovery...in newer cwm it will ask you if you want to disable recovery install...clicking yes will stop the process keeping custom cwm
Hello im fairly new to the rooting stuff so bear with me and I hope im posting this in the right place. Iv looked for other post and most have people believe they have soft bricked there phone, I was able to get out of it
I have a Samsung galaxy s4 with Verizon
model # sch-i545,
android version 4.3,
baseband version i545vruemj7,
kernel version 3.4.0 [email protected] #1,
build # jss15j. i545vruemj7
Hope this is enough info for some help. I do have root using the chines root and terminal emulator to get supersu. I also use titanium backup pro. So here is where I have my problem I was wanting to have a recover backup just in case I messed up my phone. I looked up ways to do this and the one I picked was using goomanager.
1. Opened goomanager and opened the menu and clicked install openrecoveryscript
2. Download and installed and it said download complete
3. I rebooted my phone in recovery mode
4. Now it comes up in odin mode in the top left corner, it says in red could not do normal boot under that
product name: sch-i545,
current binary: Samsung official,
system states: custom,
knox kurnal lock:0x0,
knox warranty void: 0x0,
csb-config-lsb:0x30,
wright protection enabled,
eMAC burst mode enabled
5. And I have the big green droid with downloading… do not turn off target!!
6. This is where everyone else believes they soft bricked and are stuck in a bootloop but if you pull the battery and start up in odin and restart from there you get out of it
So I cant use recovery mode at all, is there any thing I can do to fix this or do I not get to use recovery ever again
Like I said I am new to rooting and all the great stuff it offers, I have rooted my old droid x2 and done a full recovery with it, I haven’t flashed a rom yet but I still don’t know all the in’s and out’s
Thank you for all the help
what it sounds like is you phone is going into download mode. when you are trying to enter recovery are you holding volume up or volume down when you boot? because volume down takes you to download mode and volume up take you to your recovery!

I hold the volume up, power and home keys and it goes in to odin mode and goomanager can boot into recovery mode and still goes into odin mode. I think goomanager doesn’t do the team win recovery and messed up the code for recovery
And thank you I double checked that and still odin mode comes up
first problem was using goo manager, your phone base does not support any custom recoveries. The only available option is safestrap after u obtain root

What bugs me is that I can't get Into recovery anymore. *I have used recovery mode to re install some dumb apps by making a back up with Titanium Backup Pro And made a zip of the apps and re installed them through it. I just don't want to brick my phone hard. But please explain what it is and for.
All I wanted to do was be able to do a nandord backup which is what I thought I was trying todo.

You aren't making any sense, so you need to be a lot more specific about what you're doing.
One, you said above that you're on the MJ7 bootloader. That means that you can't have a custom recovery.
So what the heck does "using recovery mode to install some dumb apps by making a back up with Titanium Backup Pro" mean? You don't run Ti from recovery, you run it from a booted and rooted phone.
"All I wanted to do was to be able to make a nandord (sic) backup"
Oh well. You can't install a custom recovery on your phone since the bootloader is locked. This has been stated repeatedly in these forums.
Sadly, the moderators of this forum are refusing to post a sticky to help guide people like you to avoid this common mistake.
The only way you can back up your existing ROM is to root it and install Safestrap. Do a bit of searching around before flashing anything else.

Im sorry im new to asking for help.
Yes I now know there is no custom recovery and found out the hard way and didn’t do enough research.
With Ti pro, in batch actions-All, section Recovery mode you can create “ update.zip” from apps and data backup. I know this is not a true recovery or nandorid, so I made the zip went into recovery mode and reinstalled the apps I deleted. I was just toying around with that
My original intent was to be able to do a nandorid backup
I have looked at the safestrap method and it looks like it will work for my build I just wanted to know since my recovery mode is corrupt or I believe it is will it work

This is a Verizon forum, and you have an AT&T phone. You may have better luck in the AT&T forums, especially since this is such an old thread.
What version of safestrap?
When you say "that installed correctly" do you mean safestrap recovery?
How did you try to enter recovery? Normally, you reboot, then press the "Recovery" button from the Safestrap splash screen. If you try the normal boot to recovery, it'll boot stock recovery, not Safestrap.
Hello everyone. I am new here. I have a samsung s4 verizon. It runned on android version 4.4.2. The hotspot was not working so i decide to root it and flash it with a new custom rom. Using odin i tried flashing it and it said failed. And now it can not boot into the recovery mode.It says when I tried to boot into recovery mode it says firmware upgrade encounter an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again. I downloaded and installed kies but it not connecting in kies .
Please i need help asap
im on stock root and i wanted to hopefully flash a rom, but first i needed a custom recovery. On my phone, i downloaded Rom manager and it asked me to install cwm. it found my device and it downloaded and said installed successfully. i rebooted into recovery and from there it loops and boots into recovery non stop. i remove the battery and put it back in and it still tries to boot into recovery with the loop. (Semi-fix) when i remove my battery and boot into download mode. i can cancel it and it will skip trying to boot into recovery and load just fine. i can then shut down or restart as needed. but booting back into recovery will start the issue over again. i just want to know a safe way to have cwm on my note 3, or how to revert it back to normal. any help please?

Pull battery let it sit for two minutes. Push menu button, volume down button, and power button at the same time boot into download mode. once there flash a fresh copy of your OS which ever version of KitKat your running. You lose all your personal data, but your beyond that now. Then here is link to my thread should answer all your questions http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/general/samsung-note-3-rom-flashin-basics-t2896440 enjoy !!!

Yeah ive said it a few times this should not be used
If youve bricked your phone you can get back into your phone by holding volume down menu botton and power botton at the same time when it pops up the warning screen to enter download mode hit cancel your phone will then boot up after your phone is on if you do not have a computer the way you fix the phone so you dont have to do this every time your phone is off you need mobile odin and a kitkat cwm.img.tar for our phone flash it and problem solved you can now boot into cwm recovery then if you want you can flash a twrp img zip through cwm or just keep cwm hope this helps
Ps if you Google mobile odin the dev gives it away on his xda mobile odin page

First, pull the battery for a minute then reinstall hold the power, menu, and volume down buttons at the same time and boot into download mode. The version of Phil'z CWM you flashed is to old for 4.4.4 NK4. Now download to your desktop the right Philz CWM recovery file (Phil'z_Touch_6.48.4-hlte.tar.md5 ) here is the link https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/hlte/ there are two listed use the second one. Flash with odin and you should be good to go. Go to my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/general/samsung-note-3-rom-flashin-basics-t2896440 for more info.
done exactly as you said and the same screen came up saying recovery is not seandroid enforcing and then it jumps to Philz Touch 6 so im assuming everything is right now...i really appreciate the help! tyvm

ok..i installed cyanogen rom..i also used titanium backup..i want to go back to where i was but i dont see titanium backup on there anymore..how do i revert back?
