Hello everyone,
I've already posted 2 threads here! People have been helping me understand alot of this rooting/recovering and stuff.
But i need your help again. I have a LG P500 with official 2.3.3 update and I want to flash the TWRP on my phone (phone was rooted. I have the superuser app) Im following this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146566 but im stuck at the "su" command!(by stuck i dont mean bricked! I just can go further than that step!)
When i use that command it takes a while and then it says "Permission denied".
Isnt it supposed to ask me for permission? It didnt even show anything to choose if i want to give the permission or not!
If any of you have another way to flash that custom recovery or could help me with this one i would really appreciate your help! (im kinda noob but i heard that ROM manager has a "good" reputation when it comes to bricking phones so ill probably pass all the tutorials that i need to use it!)
PS: i downloaded the TWRP from this site TakamineSubasa gave me (http://lg-p500.zrusit.eu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7). And also im using Terminal Emulator from the market to write the commands.
Would really appreciate all the help anyone could give me!
Thank you in advance
edit: sorry didnt see that you were using terminal emulator, please go to Superuser app and be sure "Terminal" is listed in the allow list
I dont have any apps listed on the superuser app! And i dont know how to add them!
BAAAM! From xda app! (LG P500! LEGEN.....DARY!)
Mmm thats weird, when you enter "su" command it should prompt permission :S
Try reinstalling Terminal emulator
If that doesnt work, maybe root is screwed.... After you try re-rooting your phone, install Android SDK then do the recovery install within windows command
Oh, and please post which version of stock rom is in your phone... go to settings --> about phone and post that details, and check if its v10a ,b c, etc...
Some letters doesnt like to be rooted the easy way...
PS: If you dont want to install Android SDK also try the second method in the guide i gave you
just download rom manager
then download CWM recovery
after that, reboot into recovery
and flash any recovery zip file that u wan
The first time you use a function that needs root permission, you should automatically get a screen like this: http://fs03.androidpit.info/ass/x66/772466-1281914300690.jpg
After you click allow, you'll be able to use the su function. I suggest you try using other program that asks for root (for example NoFrills CPU Control, or enable root explorer setting in ES File Explorer). If the screen doesn't show up you may want to repeat the rooting process. By the way, did you root the phone before or after official upgrade?
Alternatively, you can try the LGMDP process for unrooted phones: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15217609&postcount=3
I've heard a lot that using ROM Manager isn't recommended, due to the many reported issues related to it like fastboot, but since I've never tried that I can't vouch for sure.
What I did on my phone was use this "simplified method" to install custom recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13422938&postcount=91
You'll get an AmonRa v1.2 by following this guide, but after that you can easily flash any recovery you want including TWRP using ciaox's guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065197

Hello XeactorZ
I appreciate your help but im not an expert in this (only rooted my phone once and apparantely i did it wrong!) and what i heard is that ROM manager is well known for bricking phones and i dont want to take that risk since i dont really want to be without my phone.
Btw my software version is V20c!
I'll try to install ES File Explorer and enable the root explorer setting to see if i accidently pressed the deny option and now its not allowing me to do anything!
if its the case then ill have to unroot and re-root again right? (used this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200167).
Another thing! when i use the command "su" on the terminal emulator i sometimes get a force close error from the superuser app.

Just go to applications menu and clear data for ES file explorer.
I just tried to enable the root explorer option but, again, superuser app forced closed..
terratrix i only installed ES explorer now, i think that didnt affect anything on the superuser permissions. I'll probably unroot and re-root the phone again today. Cant do it at work but ill try to do it at home.
If you have any ideas i could try, please leave a post! would really appreciate it.
Thank you everyone.
PS: right after i posted this i tried to open the superuser app and now it simply doesnt open. Always force closes!

Yeah as i said, ROM Manager has a risk of bricking your phone, so AVOID it...
And as i said, you either re-root your phone, or use the second method in the guide i posted (LGMDP)

but every person sure got his / her 1st time
u didn't try forever will won't get the answer
just my opinion
Well using ROM manager will be my last option ill first try too re-root my phone(think that will work) and if that doesnt solve the problem i use the other method TakamineSubasa adviced!
But will only use ROM manager if those 2 methods fail! So wish me good luck
Any ideas or solutions to this problem please post them! Even if i solve my problem other solutions may help anyone else!
Thank you very much!

yeah, for those unlucky guys. be warned.
i will still use it though. served me quite well. never failed even once. <knock on wood>
Well i told you guys i would post to tell you how it went!
I managed to "fix" that denied permission problem. What i did was simply update superuser app! And BOOOM! problem fixed.
All went well with the Recovery flashing, I also flashed CM7(had a few scares but managed to fix them [thanks to that im now half asleep at work ]) but after i flashed CM7 and booting into it, i found a problem. My phone doesnt have GSM. I found it wierd that when i booted into it the first time it didnt ask me for my PIN but i didnt even noticed as i was really sleepy. This morning i noticed that i had an "x" next to that GSM scale or w/e you want to call it. And i also dont have my SIM contacts listed.
Im posting this here just to update you guys about how it went but ill do a thread so i try to fix my problem and hopefully it will help someone else!
Thank you guys for all the help you gave!

Not sure which device you have as you didn't say and have a blank signature.
If you own a HTC you could always try flashing an RUU , which is an official ROM update program, that will flash the stock setup

Yea basically I'm trying to unroot. However, if i can manage to fix the device myself that would even be better.
I did the unroot process with superoneclick however, it keeps on leaving behind the superuser apk.
Thanks I really appreciate the help
for a while I got the homebutton, menu and search to work. I went into recovery cleared ou the cache and now it doesn't work again.

Install the PC software for your device and you'd find a recover option in it. Use it and it would return the device to how it was when you bought it.
The reason you are unable to remove superuser.apk now is that you unrooted before you removed the apk and manually removing apk requires you to have root.
If all you want it to just remove apk, root your device again.
Use root uninstaller and remove superuser apk.
And, then install superuser as user app from market(can be skipped if you are not going to do anything else that requires root.).
Unroot.
And uninstall superuser as you'd remove any app(if you installed SU again.).
But, if you are going to return the device for warranty claim, using the recover is the best option.
Hey there everybody,
I'm new on the forums and i just got my samsung i5500 a few days ago, it came with 2.2 froyo by default.
Considering i have loads of questions I'll try to be brief, I'm trying to get cyanogenmod on my phone but the tutorial i found there seemed to be quite lacking in detail considering this is my first time using android, so my questions are:
1. what exactly do i need to do/install on my phone before trying to get the cyanogenmod on there ? ( in the respective order please)
2. do i need to root my phone ?
3. when i tried to root my phone using universal androot 1.6.2 beta 5 i got an error "Failed ! No ~~~ Fu goo ~~~" why am i getting this error and how do i fix it ? (the log says access denied in several places)
4. do i need to install odin on my pc to install clockwork mod considering i don't have the clockwork mod ? if yes, where do i get odin from and do i need a specific odin for my galaxy 5 ?
5. do i need the rom manager ?
6. where do i get cyanogen mod files ?
7. how do i do a wipe data/factory reset ?
8. do i need to install 2.3.7 gingerbread before installing the mod ? if so, how ?
Please excuse my noobish questions but i'm completely new at this and terrified of damaging my phone, thanks for your time and attention.

1. Install 'clockworkmod recovery'
2. Yes
3. Did that for me, but pressing the root button again, before shutting app, worked
4. No, you can install clockworkmod through the app 'ROM Manager' found in the market, be sure to click our phone model though!
5. For installing clockworkmod, and if you get premium, downloading the latest version of cyanogen
6. Through premium app 'ROM Manager', or go to the rom manager website and find the files on there.
7. You have that option when you are booted into recovery mode (used for installing roms)
8. If I understood your question right, cyanogen rom is gingerbread 2.3.7 so installing that is all you have to do
I was exactly the same as you when I first did it, kept asking questions and was nervous, but if you follow the instructions, you can't go wrong

Do you have the latest version of it? Or,
have you tried any other apps? E.g 'z4root' or 'superoneclickroot'
4. When did you try it? Its only recently been added. And I would root first, just to make sure that's not stopping it
6. I havnt personally used it, but id ask that in the dedicated cyanogen port thread in development, they'll be able to help you more
7. Through rom manager, after you have installed the clockworkmod

Yes, as i said i have 1.6.2 beta 5, and i haven't tried the others because this one was deemed the safest to use, i'm kind of skiddish about using other unsafe programs

1. what exactly do i need to do/install on my phone before trying to get the cyanogenmod on there ? ( in the respective order please) Root your phone using Universal Androot- might take a few tries- just keep trying, flash your phone with Clockwork Mod v4 via Odin (or Rom Manager), put the 3 latest CM7 files on your devices SD card, go into recovery mode on your device, then install the files in the specific order (Follow the simple instructions on the official I5500 CM7 thread located under the Development section of our phones forum)
2. do i need to root my phone ? Yes
3. when i tried to root my phone using universal androot 1.6.2 beta 5 i got an error "Failed ! No ~~~ Fu goo ~~~" why am i getting this error and how do i fix it ? (the log says access denied in several places) Just keep trying, it'll work eventually.
4. do i need to install odin on my pc to install clockwork mod considering i don't have the clockwork mod ? if yes, where do i get odin from and do i need a specific odin for my galaxy 5 ? I used Odin to flash Clockworkmod on my phone but I think you can do it via Rom Manager now, not too sure but the ODIN method was pretty simple, plug your phone into computer, put your phone into download mode and follow the 'One Package' method and then start the process.
5. do i need the rom manager ? I didn't need Rom Manager when I flashed CM7 to my phone, but CM7 automatically puts RomManager on your device.
6. where do i get cyanogen mod files ? Check out the official CM7 I5500 thread.
7. how do i do a wipe data/factory reset ? Go into recovery mode and click wipe data.
8. do i need to install 2.3.7 gingerbread before installing the mod ? if so, how ? CM7 installs 2.3.7 Gingerbread to your device.

thanks guys for your help, i got everything working
If your phone is loaded with Froyo 2.2.2 you will have to downgrade to 2.2.1 as the exploit used by superoneclick ect to allow root access was fixed in the latest Froyo release. Just follow the threads for upgrading. Good luck!

Hi all.
I need some help and advice.
Being new to phone tinkering i dont want to do it wrong first time round.
My SE X10i is currently running gingerbread 2.3.3 but its rooted.
I would like help putting my phone on something better as the internets slow and lags a lot.
Im happy to try anything to make this phone as it could be or should be.
I dont know what rom to use or kernel as this is my first time doing anything to any phone.
AS you can guess im asking as i dont want to brick my phone on the first attempt.
If this is in the wrong place i applogise now.
Thanks if you can help.
I hate being a noob at something.
I can give more info if needed.
Thx wraith36
The internet will be always laggy. Very smooth browser is opera mobile. However the stock ROM itself is very laggy. I would recommend you to install some custom ROM. If you already have rooted phone it will be very easy to change the ROM. Just install xrecovery via flashtool (when the phone is turned on) and download ROM you want. Every ROM thread will have an exact installation guide. P. S. If you want to change kernel you have to unlock bootloader.
I could send you some necessary files to do that and guide you through unlocking the bootloader and the ROM change.
Just choose the ROM you want to have
Use this tool forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415600
Thanks for the help jakuburban
I will have a look into the ROM's and see what's what.
Do you recommend any.
I used FlashTool_0.2.9.1-GBready_root_xRec to root my phone, is that right?
I did the loader part with this and the kernel part also with FlashTool.
Well I hope I have.
You can send me what you think might help.
Beggars cant be choosers as they say.
And I need all the help I can be given or find.
And thx for you help with this.

Root the Device Install Xrecovery and CWM from the tool
and then u can decide on what Roms to Update...
Oh, You've done already almost everything. Now You just have to install xRecovery and choose which kind of ROM would You like> MIUI or a stock based ROM.
MIUI is a little bit slower but it has more options like themes etc
Stock based ROM looks almost like the stock ROM but this is the fastest one
MIUI I am using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377633
Stock based ROM I used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399040
After You downloaded flashable ROM You have to enter the xRecovery and flash it.
INFO: When changing to MIUI erase the data
OK I got all the info you have posted.
How do I add xRecovery
Do I download that to and install it or is that in my phone already?
I'm a noob at this.
Sorry if im slow at this.

OK jakuburban.
I downloaded what you said.
I've tryed to see if xRecovery will highlite itself but it never.
So now i need to try the other method.
OK jakuburban xRecovery installed now.
When I choose a ROM do I need to choose one that suite's we I am, IE in the UK?
Or can I choose any as long as it's in english?
Up to now things are going OK seeing I've not done this kind of thing before.
Thx for understanding.

No You don't have to use any commands. (but You can If You want to have it more difficult )
the file I've sent You contains folder named system.
in system are folders called bin and xbin.
Get into bin folder and copy the files (with root explorer) to Your /system/bin/*here the files
That's what I meant with bin/ > system/bin/
After that do the same with the xbin folder
Sorry I updated my last post to say I have xRecovery installed now.
My fault for the confusion

I've never looked for a language. Everything worked fine, so just choose ROM You want
So when I change ROM do I also change the KERNEL or is that not necessarie.
Sorry my spelling is awe-full and same go's for my spell checker lol

Most of the ROM's should work with the stock kernel, but I would suggest You to stick to the KERNEL the developers are suggesting. For me the best ROM is Doomkernel, because it works with MIUI and a stock ROM and also has overclocking
So the link you gave at the start for MIUI will that have the KERNEL with it or separate?
Sorry to bug you with all this.
I apologise for it now.

No, it won't. Most of the times if You will be able to boot into xRecovery, however if You delete to much it could just stuck. But then You can use SEUS, it worked always for me, or flashtool.
jakuburban which do I install first the kernel or the rom.
Do I use the flash tool I used at the start to root the phone.
Once I know that I guess I can start.
And good morning to you.

Good morning,
I would suggest You to install the ROM first and then the kernel, because if You do it in the other way You may not be able to enter xRecovery.
Yes You can use this flahtool, I use it too

It could be possible that the binary of SU is not updated. try downloading superSU in google store to see what happens.
If that will not work, yes you can root gain your phone using CF root kernel then try flashing another kernel like siyah, speedmod etc.
HIT THANKS IF THIS HELPS YOU IN ANYWAY!!!
once i had the same problem.. try the latest version of cf-root ..hope that solves ur problem...

Hello guys
First of all, I'm sorry to bump an old thread. But I guess it would be better than making a new one
I got my SGS2 from my sister few days ago and I tried to root it. After I did everything instructed by all tutorials I've read, I still can't use CWM Manager. It said just like above posts.
What I did:
1. Root the phone (already tried with 2 different kernels, the LP7s)
2. Open the SuperUser app. The app didn't give any options when I first opened it (like some tutorials do), it only gave 'Okay' to click.
3. Open CWM Manager and you all know the rest
4. Tried to install SU Updater fixer, but the app told me that there are no problems detected.
Then, I found out that I also had a problem connecting to wifi after I root (stuck in obtaining IP address). I didn't have the problem when first I use the device from my sister.
Waiting for your kindly replies. Thank you in advance

I have the i9100, already on official ICS when I got it. What should I do? I already tried to search the answer but nothing tells the specific way to solve the problem

try changing the kernel and see, u can try Siyah latest 3.3.2 and check
ps- please make a nandroid bkp of ur exsisting rom in, case u face any issues u can rewert back
Did you root using CF-root?
If not, install the stock firmware if you arent on it, and use odin to install CF-root.

Hi, I am Asbaat and this is my first post in this forum. Actually I've heard a lot about this forum and also whenever I had any question about a mobile or a tablet, this site was the best. Ok, the story starts 2 years back when galaxy s3 was just launched and I got my garnet Red phone from France. It was awesome and like everybody knows, after some time, galaxy laggs, stucks, bla bla bla. Same happened with me. I heard that rooting it and installing some files helps speed it up just like jailbreaking an iOS device. I searched some sites and got Odin and a custom recovery (something like that) I followed the instructions carefully and the rooting process started. But the rooting didn't complete properly and the phone turned off and Odin crashed. Now I have supersu and clockwerk(something like that) installed on my mobile but root checker says that the phone is not rooted. They do not uninstall and super su when opened says that binary not installed. when I click ok, the app closes. I am completely helpless and I seek your help so can any technician help me about it. I want to either root it completely or either unroot it completely, Im stuck in the middle. Thanks, I just made my account on this forum so I don't know whether I posted it in the right section. This seemed fine to me. Thanks a lot!
Regards,
Asbaat

Boot to recovery, go to install zip, navigate to where you downloaded to it. usually sdcard/download and choose it to install. go back to main menu and choose reboot to finish then try reloading super su.

I flashed that super su update thingy you said. It made the supersu problem fine. It downloaded an update, then I uninstalled it and finished the root completely, (This made my device unrooted). Then I again rooted it by a website, used Odin and WOALA! IT WORKED! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! MAN!!!!!!!
