Need help installing custom firmware - XPERIA X8 Themes and Apps

Hi, just found an 8X and thought of stylin' it a litte.. So i visited this site, and found lots of guides on how to install a custom fimrware.
My device is like this:
Xperia x8
Model: E15i
Current firmware version: 2.1-update1
baseband: M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53494915
core: 2.6.29 [email protected] #1
Version number: 2.1.1.A.0.6
Rooted with superOneClick
xRecovery Installed
I've tried to install serveral ROMs using xRecovery og CWM, and the only one i have had working was GingerCruzt rev 7, (since install instructions tells me install update with xrecovery) i did and i worked.. this rom just doesnt allow me to use wifi... so i wanted to upgrade.
but the guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101691
says nothing about how to installer the later versions??? or is it just me?
How to install: only for rev 6 and 7
* Download ROM, install with xRecovery
Click to collapse
i then tried to install it (rev 7.4) as i did it with rev 7, just using xRecovery, but bootscreen just loops? anyone know what im doing wrong?
..
also, i tried to install Gingerdx, i did everything exactly as the guide said, but ended up with same problem looping bootscreen.
The only thing i hosnestly cant figure out is that the guide requirements says:
the guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188486
Requirements
- Rooted
- ClockworkMod Recovery (v014+)
- Latest kernel and latest baseband xxx015
- Desire to delete Stock SE's Eclair
Click to collapse
Rooted - guess my phone is rooted good enough?? SuperOneClick should work for theis??
CWM - Yup i had CWM installing the update
Lates kerlen and lates baseband xxx015 - Well!? wtf is lates kernel and how do i get it? and so, "latest" aint that a changing factor? when guide was written the lates "thingy" could be something else than it is by now? help explain please
Desire to delete Stock SE's Eclair - fine with me?
i really hope to get some answers, Thank you!

Did you try fullwipe?
Sent from my X8 using XDA Premium App

In which order do i have to do the fullwipe? and what difference does it make? I'm still a little confused

Do full wipe just after you install new rom.
But you automagicly lose all your user data, so make backup b4 you do so
Just use xRecovery backup option. If something go wrong you can always restore.

Correct. You can us titanium backup also...
Sent from my X8 using XDA Premium App

thanks guys, it seems to work by now!

I was using Free X10 Beta 4 and was missing my HD Camcorder,so I used the option repair through SEUS and got the latest firmware which is .55.
Then I used the XDA flash Tool
http://www.multiupload.com/Q2NRGI76JR
Connect the phone(make sure USB Debugging is Enabled,DO NOT mount Sd Card),then click root.
Congratulation's you should now have root access
You can also install XRecovery using the flash tool, click advanced then select install XRecovery.
Download Busybox from the market, not the one in the flash tool.

Can't say much, but there is some more cool features coming in the next version.
Im Running FreeX10 beta4 and wanted to be able to switch between the latest 2.1 anf 2.2.1(freeX10)
So this is what i did
0. created a backup in xrecovery of my FreeX10 op
1. flashed 2.1.1.A.0.6 Rogers X10a and rooted it with Flashtools 0.3
2. Used Flashtools to install busybox and xrecovery via the customize button(placed apps in the flashtools apps folder) turned on the phone
3. ran busybox and pressed install(updates new busybox needed for xrevovery)
4. ran xrecovery from phone ,it installs perfectly
5. Had to manually enter my APNs since the Rogers rom didnt have any preconfigured for Optus3g
6. rebooted phone in xrecovery mode and created backup!
Now i can switch between 2.1 and freeX10 2.2 anytime
Thats what I did to,Now I switch from SE 2.1/CM 6.1.3. Cant go wrong with it only taking 5minutes to switch between Roms

ahhh but it can do gingerbread...
I just installed the Jit v2 complier using xRecovery on my 2.1.1.A.0.6 x10a... works great.
WHt is the difference between .55 to .54?? is there a need to upgrade mine to .55? sorry i am kinda new to this thing thnks for the post!
It enables multi touch to work with all applications, also suppose to make the phone faster. I think there was tweaks made to mediascape and timescape,so they run smoother.
thank you, i have been trying to root for a week. that did it.
do you know the differences between all the basebands? i have tried 54 and 58... i noticed that the signal strength is better with 58. i'm not really sure if that's what it is for.

[Q] X10i 2.3 gingerbread

hello everyone
i have xperia x10i and i want to install 2.3 gingerbread on my phone
what i have tried is
put the Release Candidate Cyanogen CM7.0 RC4 v014 stock
!release_CM7RC4_014_alpha
!release_CM7RC4_013
i have tried this by puttting the update.zip on root of my mobile then on xrecovery i have done install update.zip
rebooted
but my mobile is stuck on reboot loop and i have no luck in successfully doing that i have tried 3 roms but none them are working
please help anyone please
Have you tried putting the zip-file in a different folder, e.g. "zip-files", and then move to that folder using the "install custom-zip"-possibility, and then install the ROM?
And do you follow the instructions, like wiping the caches etc.?
Lots of success,
kwarkje
no i have not done this and i have done full wipe
wipe dalvik cache before updating nothings working

If you want GB from J.. flash baseband .52 and install ROM via xRecovery.

[Q] Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 to 7.1 xrecovery problem.

I'm attempting to install the new Zmod Cyanogenmod 7.1 but am encountering problems with xrecovery unable to read the SD/card when installing. Supposidly the new version of xrecovery will fix my issue but when I looked at the thread listed "2.3 STOCK ROM" as a requirement.
Now I cant update to the official 2.3.3 rom as im on O2UK, but I'm currently running Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 (on baseband 0.52) so will I still be ok to update to the new version of xrecovery?
Also just a quick question as its been a while since I installed a new rom, it's baseband first (any .71?). My phone will still be rooted, busybox still installed, etc, as I've done all this before? Then install new .zip via xrecovery?
(I've already read the newbie threads so please don't just point me there, simple yes/no answers will suffice. I'm just a little confused about going from custom install to custom install.)
edit: could this be a problem with going from a 0.52 baseband to a 1.71? This thread talks about 0.54 but could it be something simiar? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053221
install xRecovery-0.3 (GBready) using flashtool
Here is the guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196808
He needs to install baseband .71, better if he just installed gb and root it.
from 2.1 or 2.2 baseband less then 2.1.71
u need flash 2.3.x room 1st after that use flash tools flash baseband 2.1.71....
if from 2.1/2.2 u flash baseband 2.1.71 after flash the 2.3.x rom that xrecovery cant use anymore,
u neef flash via flash tool to baseband to 2.1.67, do it from 2.1/2.2 as well
7.03 android 2.2.3 baseband 2.1.67
7.10 android 2.3.5 baseband 2.1.71

So install the zmod 7.1 .zip through my current version of xrecovery first, then use flashtool to upgrade the baseband to .71, root and then install the new xrecovery (as in the first reply)?

I might give this a try first as at least I'll have a fully working x-recovery before I start. After I've installed it this way can I go back to my 0.52 baseband and CMod 7.0.3 if I want?

Well I installed xrecovery via the instructions on that link and my phone is now stuck on the SE loading screen. This is exactly what I wanted to avoid as my phone is not running stock 2.3.3. Can I have a fix please!
edit: Ok got it working by installing the .zip and flashing the .71 baseband. Thanks.

which backup/restore methods should I use in my case?

Hi everyone,
I still haven't gotten a response in xrecovery and flashtool threads for 4 days (Doom got his phone bricked and Crowds hasn't been online unfortunately) so I will post it here in hope that I will get a response a little bit faster:
I am *still* on 2.1. and I am planning on installing DoomLord's custom 2.3.3. stock rom with xrecovery installed and root. Then when I see how stock works I would install some real custom rom to get the best out of x10.
Now, since I can't install xrecovery on my x10 (at least I think so because it says in the thread that 2.3. android is required and I dont have it so I doubt that it will work if I manually install it?) I believe I have to use titanium backup (I've rooted my phone) to back everything up (my concern are the game data files but if I do a whole system backup those are backed up too right? at least it says so...) and then when I flash Doom's 2.3.3. stock rom I would restore everything with TB and back everything up with xrecovery, flash another custom rom and restore everything with xrecovery and use my phone normally,
Is this possible to do and is it a good idea?

I have a similar question:

I hope with a answer here, my question will be answered too
xRecovery can be installed on the 2.1 rom through the regular .3 recovery tool, from there I would create my backup

you mean I can download the 0.3GBready xrecovery rar file and install it through flashtool?
EDIT: and would it also work if I install the xrecovery that comes with flashtool? no need to download 0.3? and then restore with the xrecovery that comes with the rom?

Im pretty sure the kernel for the u20a is the same as the u20i, correct me if im wrong, but here is the default kernel ive got.
http://www.multiupload.com/UKWIV0GSTS
Just for my comprehension, as i am quite new to Android/Androiddevelopment: Is the stock kernel the one you have installed by default, when you buy a device? What's the benefits/what does one need a stock kernel? Is it because some roms state that an installation only works with the preinstalled kernel?
Thanks in advance,
aya.
Well I take it your already on a stock kernal, stock kernal is the one that came with your phone. What your reading is custom kernel, you need to unlock your bootloader first before you cam install a custom kernel. As your new to this I wouldn't use a custom kernel yet. Have you rooted your phone? Have installed any custom roms? You can still install a custom rom with a stock kernel, all the info is on the dev forum.

Ew. So this bootloader-thingy was the one where it's highly important to read and follow the instructions plus knowing what i'm doint for not bricking my device, right?
Yes, currently i'm on a MiniCM7 Pro V16. Currently i'm reading around, searching for the reason why i can't install a version 17-19, as it says "Can't open archive. Installation aborted (bad)", when i boot into recovery and try to install a .zip with version 17+.
Version 16 works fine. I also checked on my pc if the archive is maybe corrupt, but i can extract it without errors. Also redownloading didn't help.
Some guy wrote that this error can be because i still have a stock kernel. Another one wrote that it's probably because of the Clockwork Mod Recovery V3.x, as the higher MiniCM7 Pro versions require v4.x.
But the installation instruction says one should clear the caches and install the ROM to get the recovery 4.x installed. But i can't even start the installation, as it says "Installation aborted (bad)" when i try to run it.
So my guess was that this is maybe due to the fact that i'm still using a custom kernel, but i'm not sure. And i don't want to break my device
I guess you can try to install CMW recovery again since I've been always on stock kernel and updated every version of MiniCM7 easily, even the new versions with the new recovery. the roms don't necessarily need a custom kernel, there are versions for the stock one.
in the thread for MiniCM7 you find the instructions to upgrade the CMW, if you need, it's easy but read everything carefully.

Right so you have the basics of modding so may be its time to unlock your bootloader?
I've bricked my phone so many diffrent ways but I can always unbrick my phone through seus and pc companion.
Now I havnt tried installing v19 with out a custom kernel so not to sure if that's your problem but paul did say that it might be due to not using a custom kernel.
