Hey guys, I've just recently gotten my SGS2, and I'm loving it!
One thing that I've noticed, however, is the... I guess "power" of the sound card?
I don't know what to call it, but my SGS1 with the Voodoo Sound app was much more "powerful" than my SGS2.
I am gauging this by the volume that I have to set my car sound system at when I plug either phone in... (SGS1 was at a good volume at 25, but with the SGS2 I have to turn it up a little higher to get the same affect.
Is it just a matter of playing around with the EQ or is it the phone or is there an app?
Thanks in advance!

try playing with the equaliser and also are you using any custom roms? cause if you are try batistarom or a rom which has dspManager in...gives you that extra bass....
Also found that the 2.3.5 rom improves the sound both in quality and also a small amount of volume. I actually stopped using dsp manager for listening with my Klipse headphones since updating the rom, because the rom helped that much.
If not updating your rom maybe try dsp manager and turn off other equalizers so every program use only dsp managers equaliser.

There is Audioboost SGS2 in market. If you are rooted you can increase the overall volume.
Ahhh thank you very much for the replies, everyone.
I'm using DarkyRom2, KH3 at the moment.
Am I correct in saying KI3 = 2.3.5?
If so I've seen a few comments on the forums about a few little bugs with it, so I prefer to stick to KH3 for now.
Unless anyone can tell me that it is more stable and that KI3 is better?
If so, in what ways is it better or worse? (in your own opinions, of course)
And thanks for the suggestion warfanax, I'll check out the app!

So after doing many hours of searching I truly believe I am the only person with this problem. If for some reason I have missed this problem already and it has been solved, I do apologize sincerely.
I just got a Samsung GS2 with AT&T, rooted it first thing, and flashed the UnNamed ROM. After having it for a few days now, the ringer volume and Alarm volume are too low for me to hear in my pocket. So upon doing a bit of digging, I came across an app called Volume+. I am sure many people know what this is and have recommended it to others with my same problem.
I say again, I have already installed this app!
However, after turning all the settings full blast, level 15 in most cases, there is no change in volume.
Reading more about the app, its SUGGESTED that I flash CM7 and remove the DSP Manager... but I don't want to do that. I don't care about removing the DSP Manager, but I happen to like the UnNamed ROM. Besides, they said they recommend the CM7 ROM but "should" work with others.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated here. I am new to this whole thing, but I do know Linux VERY well and I am not afraid to tinker with things I probably should't.
Thanks again.
Any help here would be great!

The headset volume is not loud enough. I can't really hear any bass because of how quiet it is. I've used multiple applications to try to fix this and I've used a few different pairs of headphones. There is not much of a difference no matter what i do. Volume+ was making it loud enough on a gingerbread rom but on ICS it doesn't work that well. Is there anything i can do to make the volume louder? besides just messing with the dsp settings (that doesn't do much)
Thanks for your help.
Does the kernel have anything to do with this? There is something software wise that effects this. I just don't know what it is.
nobody knows of anything i can do? come on guys haha
My phone always blasts my headphones super loud regardless of the rom/kernel.

can you give me more details please. What app are you using, what headphones. Any EQ app?
I end up listening to podcasts @ about 50% volume and music @ about 70%, otherwise my ears would ring.
Maybe you are just hard of hearing?
I use amazon music, no equalizer or pandora for music.

What rom are you on?
I'm on cleanrom 1.6.5 sp1 and I don't have a problem with volume. Around 70% it seems loud enough.
If you are using a different kernal than stock, I would try going back to stock and seeing if anything changes. Try to rule out the kernal and/or Rom.

Yeah it defiantly has to do with my rom (ineffablis ICS). When i was on 1.0 it was working fine. I've tried other sense ICS roms and had the same issue. I don't know if others with those roms are having the problem. There is so much going on in those threads you cant ask anything..
This is what the sound was like on the stock rom with stock kernel. Its not like so low that its not worth listening too but one of the reasons i like a custom rom is because the sound is so much louder. There must be something specific that effects this... i wonder if anybody knows what it is. What exactly do apps like volume+ do? what files are they changing?
I can't listen to music at full volume with the ear buds, it's just too loud, and I like loud. Was that way on stock ROM & kernel with stock music player and is that way now on the set up listed in my sig with stock music player.
Have you tried using q-tips?

Haha I actually bought an ear cleaning kit because i thought that might be the problem too! lol but im all clean and its still quiet! could this actually be a hardware problem?
So i even switched roms. Im on ICSRedefined now. No difference. I think this is a problem with ICS. and again its not like the volume is terrible but with volume+ sound boost on a gingerbreadrom its way louder. So i guess there just isnt anything i can do on ICS? Nobody knows of what files volume+ effects?

It's not the ROM. I'm on the same one and have been on different ICS ROMs before this. I generally play the music at about 65-75% before it starts getting too loud using Souls and VModa Crossfades.

Sorry, that wasn't very helpful. I mean it's not the ROM itself. I think it might be an issue with your phone and the ROM. I also had an issue with a ROM a while back where the speaker volume was weak. I couldn't hear people talking when I had it on speaker phone. So, I think it's just something to do with your phone and the ROM. Ok, so this doesn't really help either, but others don't seem to have the issue like no one had my issue.
It's probably your phone man, some Rezounds are louder than others. I was messing around w/ the stock display Rez in a store today. Compared to my speaker it sounds pretty quiet and quite tinny. I wonder if different build dates have different speakers in them. Mine is loud and deep and has no issues at all.
using cleanROM ICS 2.3.
But if you need volume+ or equalizer for it be "loud enough" for you, then I don't know.
I think the phone stock is plenty loud enough without any add ons.
I agree
I agree that the volume is not as loud as gb roms. Still sounds good just not as good as on gb.
i've been on passion 13.1 for a while now and am looking for something with the best sound headphones for my flexsmart x2, i need something with full voodoo sound ten support and i just downloaded ics kiss v8.2 kernel hope that should clear somethings up mbut would like a rom with great sounding voodoo sound and dsp manager, if anybody has any ideas or suggestions in any field please let me hear them. oh yeah, when i look under kernel module options in voodoo sound i it won't say supported, is that okay?
subZero Kernel supports Voodoo10.
Since I'm not interested in running ics well you recommend me a good room for playing sound through the headphones?

Oh, I thought you stated you wanted to run an ICS rom. Hmm, CM7 is a decent choice, but I haven't run too many Gingerbread Roms myself. I really liked the Roms from TeamWhiskey, but support stopped for them, so it's hard for me to give them my full recommendation.
What is it that you're fully looking for in a rom? Do you want it based off of Gingerbread or Froyo?
If you're going to use CM7/MIUI - Mr. Apocalypse's 99 Problems kernel supports Voodoo Sound 10.
My vibrant is used for music only
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Well, if you've literally just turned your Vibrant into an MP3 player, I'd say pick your poison on the rom, as it sounds like Voodoo Sound 10 is the only thing you need.
Your description of needs has been pretty ambiguous so far. I'm honestly not even sure what you're looking for. If you need more, be specific on what you want/need.
Just start playing with roms and find one that appeals to you. Check out the Kernel Bible Thread in the Development forum if you're not satisfied with the suggestions I've offered.
Well I'm looking for something well working and low battery consumption, I don't mind going to froyo if I can get the best Sound out of it, I'm going to try moshiach but I would really like one with phone capabilities and I used to use simply galaxy

Flash Fishman's Bionix with Voodoo Kernel. Stable, long battery and Voodoo Sound. Plus everything works too.
Just an fyi Beats Music is nothing more than just OK. There is a a thread in the Q&A section about Beats and Froyo. Check it out before you flash it. IIRC it is included in the M tweaks.
Voodoo sound + PowerAmp + Bose in-ears = Sonic Eargasm. That is what I run daily for music, MLB At-Bat, Sticher, Jango, ...
I'll refuse the eargasm I like symphonics sounds and I'll download the bionics fishermans ROM and look into buying the Bose headphones and listen for a mello accent and try to check out the thread for the beats audio and read it then make my decision on if I want to flash it.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Its cool. Eargasm btw doesn't mean glass breaking volume. PowerAmp has like 9 EQs plus you can set your own. The Bose phones bring out the lower tones but balance them with smooth treble and nice mids.
I'd link that thread but my tablet is a little wonky tonight.
i may try to get voodoo sound ten on bionics fm
it seems that the bali kernel has voodoo sound nine so i'm going to try to get ten on biofishmen with using imortality 2.2. do u think it will improve?
I was just wondering if there is any way to forcibly increase the max volume limit on ICS? I've seen some apps in the market that claim to, but wanted to ask here first. I can't hear the phone ring if I'm in just a moderately loud environment, and my last phones (iPhone 4, Galaxy S and OG Droid) were all PLENTY loud.
Let me know, thanks!

I agree with the OP and would like to see this myself. I can never hear my phone if there is mild background noise. Almost never hear texts unless it is dead quite.

how about.....a dev request for just MORE steps of volume?
so like, the steps go by 5 or so
5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and so on...that would make me happy with lower volumes, and would make you guys happy for louder perhaps

I actually found one that works well. Its called volume+, and its $2 on the market or free on his forum. For the rezound, because it has beats, it needs a special audio-settings.conference file, which he also has posted on his forum with instructions to add it. I turned the audio settings all the way up and it makes a considerable difference, without too much distortion. Give it a try
Just a suggestion...i make my own ring tones from mp3s in audacity and just pump up the gain. Right now it's the guitar riff from Mr jack by system of a down and it makes people around me jump even in a busy loud store when it rings, hell I could hear it at the last football game I was at.

can you not get DSP manager??? im on GB but was just wondering
I know on CM it would rock the phone on my thunderbolt
but i thought it had something to do with the kernel also because IMO had a kernel that had very low sound and then he revamped it and it came out good
this looks promising but i do not have ICS just got my rezound today but this guy said he extracted DSP from a AOSP rezound ROM

probably just set "phone speaker" to have a higher output in the EQ..or just raise the EQ so they're all even, but like 5 steps up or so
With DSP Manager, the only thing that really makes it loud is headset virtual room. But of course its only available for headphone setting. Eq dont do squat in headphone setting...no effect... But EQ works ok on speaker. Just dont go all that loud even with the EQ enabled, but no volume boost for main speaker. Need louder volume on the Rezound....period regardless what ROM you using. Im on GB still

I purchased this app a year or so ago but don't bother installing it anymore. I immediately found it didn't play well with DSP manager, both start FCing constantly if they are installed together. I couldn't see that it made much of a noticeable difference anyway Other than for headset volume and that's plenty loud enough anyway.
Where did you find the beats fix?? I just searched that site for beats fix, Rezound mods etc etc and got no result at all???

It's listed on the releases page I believe, and it's it's own separate thread, called [MOD] htc device fix or something along those lines. And you have to install that audio_settings.conf file he provides if you're on a Rezound for it to make a difference. I installed it and have the volume set to +15 and it makes it unbelievably better. Much, much louder, and I set the eq to Beats like and there's very little distortion at full volume, and notifications/ringtones are much, much louder.
here's the thread for volume+ fix for htc devices with beats:

Hey guys/girls.
I am very happy with SGS2. But there is a small problem...
I am a audiophile/basshead, and I usually use my laptop for music. But like many other, I do listen music on my phone as well.
The problem is, is that the volume is a bit low. I have tried a few apps and amplifiers, but that just destroys the quality.
Does anyone know how to increase the volume without losing (much or very noticeable) audio quality?
I am using the unofficial builds from SlimBean (Android 4.3.1) and (soon) the Pound ROM as a secundairy ROM.
I also use DorimanX 9.43v22 (beta) kernel.
If anyone has a solution or a nice MOD to fix this, I would love to learn about it!
Thanks in advance guys/girls!
Kind regards,
Samuel de Wit

These things are intentionally limited so people don't damage their hearing so there isn't much that can be done beyond what you have tried. To go louder would involve an external amplifier.
You call yourself an Audiophile but I don't really think you are, you just like it loud. This phone is know to have fairly ordinary sound output, read a review about it.
