Hi Guys,
Probably someone has asked same question, but would it be available for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 soon?

The trick to getting ice cream sandwich on the tab is to put ice cream on the screen, then put cookies on both sides, then search the forum before you post.

+1 this is a great idea
Why is it people buy a media consumption device yet consume no media on it? One Google search, or one simple scroll would have netted you the answer you were looking for.
But, since my toilet is really comfortable I have a few minutes for ya. ICS- will not be released for another month or two. Then you have to wait for Samsung to adapt it to their UI, so basically you have about 2 to 19 months until you will see it on your tab.

Well i hope it is released in October. But yes it will be months later until Samsung codes it in for the gtab.
There has to be a word for the particular kind of nerdhood that Android tablets seem to engender. People who buy a $500 gadget only to obsess over installing the next version of its operating system.
Dissatisfied?
Me .... I'm fine with my Tab, although I'd be happy if I were to receive an update that improves the Tab further.

Why all the hostility...This is what forums are meant to be, sharing information. You have I would like to have and Vice versa. Also are we not all always looking for the next evolution in the OS and it's new features. Yes I what my 500.00 dollar toy to have the best it could handle.

I would hardly call Samsung's 3.1 incarnation a smooth experience. Yes it works, but regular force closes are becoming annoying. So, personally, I would love to see ICS available for the Tab 10.1, and perhaps more importantly, the ICS source being made available for the devs to get to work

Take this with a pinch of salt as it's far from official but:
Gaurav Hasabnis, an industry analyst and contributing editor of Fonearena.com posted on Twitter: “Something gonna come in Jan 2012. #sgs2 users gonna rejoice!”, followed by a second tweet: “Soon Mali400 gonna be in full use.”
The mentioned Mali 400 is the name of the GPU on the Samsung Galaxy S II. Rumors states Ice Cream Sandwich will utilize the the full potential of high-end smartphones better than previous Android OS, which leads us to believe that the ICS will be making its way to the Galaxy S2.

If they won't release it officially, I'm sure we'll get a custom rom with 4.0 running as soon as the Galaxy Nexus is launched But good news, anyway!
Just think. If it's January 'officially,' then it could be December (or earlier) for us!
That's a great news. Though I think we'll get ICS unofficially before that. Anyone?

Didn't Samsung drop development of 2.3.4 as they started 2.3.5
I still haven't got any official updates from 2.3.3 on a SIM free handset here in the UK.
Samsung UK have also tweeted that there is no time frame for getting ICS on the SGSII (read in to that what you want)
Think custom roms will be the only way forwards on ICS for some time.
Well that announcement is about Official release, NOT unofficial one. 70% users use Official ROM and like them, existing use this and that. Without a Stock ROM there won't be any Custom ROMs? Would there be?
Count me in those 70%.
We'll sure have some custom rom runnig ICS before the official one but I wonder what they'll do about touchwizz...
Looking forward to it
I know, I know!! We just OFFICIALLY got Gingerbread, but I was wondering if anyone has started any type of Ice Cream Sandwich development other than Klondyke and Dreyer's??

i'm anxious to see this thing going myself. i'm getting a new phone soon but am keeping my tbolt. this thing's been my fav phone i've ever had(hd2 2nd).
Ics doesn't appeal to me visually that much more then previos android versions. I mean yea it would be way better in terms of performance but not cosmetic wise not as speaking as Samsung tw or htc sense. I expected it to be more like those by default. Instead, they've totally done away with the dock shortcuts for convenience. The galaxy nexus has it tho. I'm hoping that the OS will work well with UI shell overlays and there will be good home replacement apps that can be made to compliment the new OS. Overall I am looking forward to its release and ports to different devices for I am looking to be somewhat wo'ed by ics.

This thread is a year old, why are you quoting a year old post?
So. What now?
There is few - non-complete - ICS roms for the htc flyer, but nothing good enough for daily use.
We didn't even get android 4 before android 5 was out... :crying:
Drew Garen is apparently working on ICS. Maybe he should be asked to try to work on Jellybean instead?
What do you think? Will it be harder to get Jellybean? Will it ever be done?
I think you should just give it up. What makes you think we ll get 4.1,if like you said we don't even have a good ics Rom. If you realy want buy a nexus 7. It's 199 so the price is very reasonable
I'm pretty confident that Chaos is going to get his ICS build perfected with everything working, I mean, look how far he has gotten so far. I wouldn't count on DG though. Too many broken promises.
As for Jellybean. The source code isn't even released yet. Just the update for the galaxy nexus and the sdk. Sdk ports will never be as good as source builds so forget about that. When the source is released for JB I don't think it will be too hard to get an AOSP build going seeing as we already have a good ICS build. The leap wasn't as big from ICS to JB as it was from GB to ICS. So in theory, we will probably get JB (I can't speak for the other developers) sometime after the source is released.
So just sit back, be patient and keep track of any news
This is getting silly. Really! I think it is best to just cut the loses & buy something new. I think the turn around for new OS'a is shortening. I mean ICS isn't even a year old. I've learnt my lesson.
My next contract will only be 12 months. & I will dump the limping HTC brand for something else. That way I won't be disappointed.

I personally want to use my device as long as the hardware is okay. (I still have my HTC hero, haha.) I think the lesson here is to buy a device that has loads of rom developers.
Anyways, thanks for all the replies!
Man everyone is obsessing over jelly bean...why? It's a minor update.. its a miracle chaos got ics running on this device, asking for jelly bean is a new monster. Id rather the focus be on getting ics perfect for the tablet than start over on a new monster. And idk about jelly beans New tablet mode, Id prefer the tablet ui that was introduced with honeycomb.
Thing is google cranks out new android versions quickly. People won't keep this tab forever, including developers. So the best possible experience that takes full advantage of the flyers hardware needs to be the goal not desperately trying to scrape together parts to get another version of android on the tab. Really I'm fine with honeycomb aside from the lag, and ioiwillio is working on that and so far so good

I think I'd rather get ICS running properly too.
Jelly Bean does not have a landscape home screen, which is weird.
The emphasis on voice and search is getting too much for me too. I feel like Jelly Bean was designed to collect information about you. It is getting too big brotherish.
It sounds great to get a Nexus 7 maybe 16g at least. I don't know if they have sdcard slot, that would awesome. The HTC EVO View still has great potential as a school tool. I take it everywhere take notes, make beats, do homework, watch movies, listen to music, text everyone and email. I hardly carry my phone to school or laptop. I think its still very functional, even the Gingerbread works fine on this device. I can even code. It's definitively not a 12 core that I treasure so much as to not carry it outside my home in sunny Southern California.
I would rather use telepathy but I'm stuck in a Dark Age.
Big Bro indeed. As much as I like Google, their goal of collecting all information is frightening. Information is power - someone with too much power is a tyrant.

AS Gumby said earlier i do not think it is too hard to do, i am not even sure it requires Kernel changes in order to get it working, i believe that it can share the same kernel as AOSP ICS, however don't quote me on this. I will have a look at this with whoever decides to develop

This could be fixed i believe, (Not by me) as i don't really know much about the APK's at all. But i beleive it is possible, the same code from an ICS lockscreen apk would work and also i believe a lot of the ICS APK's would work as this is not a major API level only a slight step up, however i could be incorrect.

Yes. It seems like I am wrong about it anyway. There IS a landscape mode in the UI.
I am thinking about ordering one. It is a shame because the Flyer has better hardware in some respects (rear camera, SD slot, MHL support). But, Nexus 7 hardware is good enough and, most importantly, it has Google supporting it so we will surely get timely software updates for a while at least. Also, I am sure that there will be a ton of Dev activity becasue this is a Google product and will probably be at least moderately successful.
Hope the community of flyer grow stronger and stronger. Anyway it is not old enough to die, with all this, All the flyer will have a longer life:fingers-crossed:

We need a ICS kernel first, and I was pretty sure the framework changes were rather intensive.
From what I can gather, the changes between HC and ICS and hell compared to the minor update from ICS to JB. If we can get a working ICS build for the Flyer, JB will seem like a piece of cake.
Back to the UI discussion, I'm actually a fan of the layout on the Nexus 7. It's actually more of a traditional phone layout which would work much better on the Flyer if the soft keys were disabled and we could go back to the hardware keys. It would free up the bottom of the screen and give us more usable space.

I'm kinda thinking that too. Ideally what I think would be perfect for the flyer is a launcher with a honeycomb layout that auto rotates to both portrait and landscape and has no dock and the apps and search bar up top just like honeycomb. Then you have the notification bar up top, virtual keys disabled, and hardware keys enabled and bam perfect flyer layout!

On a more serious note, to answer your question: Sammy' has already started rolling out ICS on its gtabs. So far, the 7 and 7Plus variants have gotten the glory, so 10.1ICS should be home in a week or two. I suspect next week should be 8.9 ICS.
Other than that...sit back, relax, and play monopoly. Sammy' is probably the worst manufacturer to have when it comes to updates.

February is a considerably long distance away when you consider when JB first came out.
In my view, it was a revolution in android software. Google Now, Project Butter, its enough to make any device sell.
Wonder if this is the same as the XXperia Tab that was promised in 2012.

It might have a new kernel or something we can work around to unlock the boot loader or have a work recovery with adb function orsome eye candies or better stuufs. Btw i tried an unofficial 4.1 on galaxy ace and it was hell a lot more better and fluid than 4.0
Well, in russian 4pda news about JB for SPGT11* was posted in september or early, but thanks, now we know the date.
The only thing that spoils my mood about this thing - obviously sony will include new recovery in JB update, and it's no good for users who wants to have an ability to flash their tablets with some tools like AiO... And I pretty sure that release of JB for my SPGT114RU/S (16+3G) will come with some kind of delays... Eh, never mind.

Lol what's your deal man? In my opinion Jelly Bean has been the most important update to Android yet, as it brings Android up to the smoothness level of iOS and also matches Siri with Google now. "I doubt its gonna bring anything amazing to yhe table why are ppl so obsessed with updates": First of all, do you know anything about Jelly Bean? Yeah. It brings A LOT to the table. And secondly, I am not obsessed with updates. However, I do like having the latest version of Android. If you're one of those people that can feel fine about being stuck in Android 2.3, then all the more power to you. But I'm just not that way, and there's nothing wrong with that. Besides, why are you replying to this thread if you don't care? Seems like you've got too much time on your hands.
Having used the nexus s and now on a galaxy nexus, I can testify to how great an improvement jb is over ics. Much smoother and a good sized improvement in battery life, even when using generic AOSP builds. I do hope Sony gives 4.2a thought though... there's lots of tablet only features that would be a good fit for this device, particularly while the nexus 10 remains hard to get.

If you're one of those people that can feel fine about being stuck in Android 2.3, then all the more power to you. But I'm just not that way, and there's nothing wrong with that. Besides, why are you replying to this thread if you don't care? Seems like you've got too much time on your hands.

I just hope someone can work out how to root a tablet S thats already done the r5a update, before JB comes out.
I hate having a bunch of stock rubbish put on after an update. but on the other hand, my bluetooth works properly again. i was having problems listening to music in the car (I had to exit and reopen the music player every time i reconnected to the headunit)
Awesome, can't wait!

Why are you still here, man? You've already said that this topic is pointless because you don't care about JB. I fail to see how replying to your post was me taking it "waaaaaaaaayyyyyy to personally".
Now ure putting words in my mouth I said neither of those things. And if you read the my later posts I said it might be pre cool. I took a look at a few reviews on youtube and I can see why people are excited about this one.

I apologize; I replied without reading your later posts. That was my fault I do wish you'd researched a little about JB before initially denouncing it in my thread, but that's alright because you know what's up now. We cool, dude.
