When I'm repairing my Xperia Neo using SEUS, it says that "The phone contains modified software that cannot be updated". What should I do about it?
Bootloader unlocked?

How did you unlock the bootloader? There is a way that you loose the official updates and another that you don't
I followed the instructions on SE site. :|
That way you loose the official update, even ota :s I'm still on stock because I want to learn more before I touch the bl, because of warranty too. I don't know if there's a way to get the updates back, I'm new to Sony Ericsson stuff, have my neo for a week now
The thing I concerned is that if I can still update my Neo when the official Ice Cream Sandwich for Xperia released.
That I don't know, try to ask that here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134335 but I don't think that will be possible, because you gave them your imei. Read that thread and ask there about that, I'm really new to this stuff, I had a Samsung Spica before.
I see! Thanks a lot buddy. Maybe this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258723 will help me soon when the official Ice Cream Sandwich released. They posted here the original firmware of SE Xperia phones.

if you would like to update your phone with the latest or previous software with BL unlocked, you can use wotan server, its pretty easy and straight forward or you can use flashtool if you have the proper FTF files for your phone.
If you would like to relock your BL, then you can do so, since you used the SE procedure, here's how to relock your bootloader:

I suggest to use the SE unlock procedure as the other procedure (not sure what its called) aside from your cannot relock the bootloader, unlocking process is hard and complicated.
But DRM (where Track ID is using) will be totally gone once you unlocked the bootloader and you cannot get it back even if you relock BL. (just a heads up though)

With patched bl you can still use official update service.

Concerning about the warranty, is it compatible with unlocking/re-locking the bl? I read a lot of threads but never read nothing that gives me a clear answer...

By that method bootloader is not unlocked, but instead it's patched, so that it accept unsigned images. As far as I know, you can't "unpatch" it

Well, for start, the official online method warns you that you are loosing warranty by doing that. Did you really think they won't cover themself?
Anw, if you do the online unlock, you can lock it back, but it won't bring drm stuff like track id back, it's gone forever from your phone(but I see you already know that ).
Now in real life situation. I really doubt they will check if you still have drm stuff on your phone or if your bl is patched. They will most likely check if bl is locked or unlocked

How do I relock my Xperia Mini Pro? I unlocked it through the official way on the Sony Website and wanting to relock it now. I reflashed my phone to stock ROM with stock KERNEL and want to lock the bootloader. I downloaded Flashtool and now I don't know what to do. Should I use Flashtool or S1tool? Please help, thanks
Plus, Flashtool is not recognizing any drivers I have installed, I installed my phone's driver using Gordan Gate's which I got from WontanServer. Will I have to install the drivers manually?
If you used official method, you will need this file, attached to my post, inside the .rar file, and Flashtool. Just place the .ftf file in Flashtool/firmwares folder, then open Flashtool, flashmode and pick the relock_bootloader.ftf file. Make sure your phone is in Flashmode also.
About drivers...I cannot remember, which drivers did I install...
Thanks, a lot, I have finally relocked the bootloader. But just to make sure, how can I check If my bootloader is locked or unlocked? Thanks

Dial *#*#7378423#*#* service info>cofiguration. If it says bootloader unlocked allowed : yes then it's locked, if bootloader unlocked : yes then it's unlocked.
One qeustion by my side: After relocking the bootloader, is it posiible when you send it to the servis to be detected that the bootloader has been unlocked (or maybe that the device has been rooted) previously? I have relocked the bootloader and done repair with Pc companion so everything is like before well.....except that before i did a root with flashtool and didn't knew that the stock firmware isn't rootable like that and i lost 3G!!!!!!...now i must set to 2g in order to get signal coz i get with 3g weak signal and when i make a call it drops off. That's why i want to send it to the service

I knew that your post had nothing to do with relocking patrida If you unlocked your phone with sony's official method you loose your DRM even if you relock it.Now, about the service, i highly doubt they gonna search if you unlocked it but i can't swear about that. There is also another method unlocking your phone without loosing DRM but didn't tried it and i don't know if they can detect it or not

Now i get it.. you loose your DRM the exact time you ask them to provide you unlock code!
So,no matter what you do afterwards they allready know which device is unlocked and which is not.. sosta thessalonikie mou??
My phone is unlocked with the "other" method and let's hope that i'll never have to take it to them and wonder if they detect it or not!!!
My phone now is locked and to check if your bootloader is locked or not, download S1tool. Open S1tool and click "Identify" and then follow the onscreen instructions. When your phone's information comes up it will say "R(some numbers and letters)". If you have a capital R means your bootloader is locked, if you have a small r means your bootloader is unlocked.

You lose DRM, if you unlock via fastboot using official method. When DRM is gone, it is completely gone, currently there is no way of getting it back.

Hi, new here .
Quick question; has anyone successfully unlocked their XMP with the Wotanserver client? I want to make sure they're reputable and trustworthy before I hand over ~£13. As far as I understand, this is the easiest way to remove a carrier-lock (and no free way exists).
This is mainly so I can then unlock the bootloader and install custom kernels.
Thanks!
I have read from somewhere, that they have unlocked their Xperia with WotanServer and it succeeded. Can't remember, which topic it was....Try searching.
if they use a test point method then you can be almost sure it will work well.
I have unlocked 2 both went without a problem

But, does it give you fastboot? (To flash new kernels)

It can be wotan server or omnius or setool but by my own experience if the server uses the test point method there will be no prob and maybe even will left the bootloader unlock.
You can unlock the sim using test point or imei code. So i don't know if wotanserver uses test point as i don't know if the imei method will unlock the fastboot mode that is why i made a comment about the method.

Ok thanks for the replies .
So basically I need to find out from them what method they use (not sure if they'll tell me that :S) and ask if I can unlock the bootloader as a result of using their tool - or if their tool unlocks the bootloader as well.
I'll post here when I get an answer .

From what we know at the moment, yes it is so.
Not much people have network locked phone, so we don't have much information.
And yes, unlocked bootloader will not let Sony updates to be installed.
Hello
Just purchased a SK17i Xperia Mini Pro Black Version that is locked to 02 (UK network). I am obvously new to all this stuff but do have a basic understanding but here are some questions:
1) I am thinking of waiting until Android 4.0 is Officially released by SE to update my phone (btw, anyone know when the update is coming). Was wondering when I update will I still be able to root my phone?
2) When I root (if I can) I want to install Set CPU to overclock my phone. However I have heard this drains batteries? Is this true and if so how can I make my phone faster?
3) I need to unlock my phone. Can this be done for free after rooting? If not, can someone link me to the cheapest place I can get this unlocked from?
Thanks in advance to anyone that answers
Hey dude,welcome to XMP family.
1)According to Xperia Blog,XMP will get the ICS update in the end of May or early June, after the first wave for arcS,neoV and ray.I don't know whether we can root it on official ICS or not,but I think to get a rooted phone is easy once you unlock the bootloader, and besides, there are so many developers here.
2)When it comes to overclocking, apparently it would cause battery drain faster. But with my experience,I hardly feel its difference on SE stock Rom.As for custom rom like FXP's,which I has used for a while,it drains about 2~3% per hour while idle(drop speed is two times than stock.)
3)Certainly you can unlock your phone for free, see this thread & tutorial. But it should be noticed that once you unlock it then you may invalidate your warranty.
Mine is on FXP CM9(ICS) and it's kind of laggy, but I can't tell it's because of the ICS rom or existed bugs.As SE said,we may not have the same experience like Gingerbread if we update to ICS.

I think I will leave stock ROM once updated actually, seems to be running fine atm as it is.

There is no way to get your phone unlocked from a network for free but WontanServer offers an unlocking for $15. You can try that out. Just type WontanServer in Google and click the 1st link. WontanServer is legit and won't steal your money
Though as a warning you might not be able to update to ICS as it also might unlock your bootloader. Just double check, as I am not 100% sure. Also it will void your warranty

He meant that the Wotanserver network-unlock method might unlock your bootloader (which it does). This bootloader unlock, whilst giving you access to custom ROMs etc, might not behave with official SONY updates (such as ICS) - I'd link you for proof but I'm not allowed to due to my low post count .
Also, Google 'Omnius Unlock'. They will unlock your phone for free over the next few days (Easter promotion). I'm not sure how reputable those guys are though so you'll want to check.
Thanks for that Omnius Lock thing, looks great and will check it out
So, if I unlock it I may be unable to upgrade to 4.0? That is a bit stupid to say the least? Anyone on an Xperia that was unlocked then ugraded to 4.0? Did it become locked again?

Well I'm not sure about 'stupid', you'll have to weigh it up. If you look in the development section, there's already a very useable version of ICS (look for MiniCMSanwich), which is potentially better than Sony's bloatware-infused and themed version (not to mention probably unrootable) due in a couple of months.
I think it's mainly FOTA bricks that happen (over-the air updating from Sony), and some bootloader unlocks allow for this by just patching the bootloader to make it seem unlocked (any SETool unlock will do this). So there are a number of options.
Be careful also of some bootloader methods stripping the DRM keys, these are used by Sony services like TrackID, which will cease to work (permanently) following a bootloader unlock.
Edit: There's a distinct difference between a network unlock and a bootloader unlock, the former will nearly always also execute the latter, but the latter can be done by itself (obviously only on unbranded phones). The method of getting a custom ROM is basically network unlock > bootloader unlock > root > install custom kernel > install custom ROM. Root can be done before the unlocks, I believe.
I'm new to all this too, only trying to explain because I know how much of a total pain it was to work it all out .

So if I do unlock through the Wotanserver place, my bootloader will be unlocked but I wouldn't be able to get official ICS, but a just as good if not better copy? And just generally, can I add that this is the way to get MiniCMSanwich ROM on my XMP:
Root (zerg's software) (not needed but useful so might as well do it then)

Finally, flash the ROM and Gapps using Clockwork Mod Recovery

It is the same unlock method, just everything brought to one place by that app maker.
Rooting your phone before custom ROM installation is not needed, because old ROM(stock) gets deleted anyway and custom ROMs include root already.

LOL, well right now with locked BL its impossible, you have to unlock it.... its probably that in the threads already posted someone like me already said it
its most annoying having a locked BL - orangeUK did it to my device. waiting for an exploit or maybe ICS might do something. I have read that if you get the SIM unlock code into it, it may unlock the BL but I cannot say for certain, I may try this to see if it will allow the bootloader to be unlocked.
as for now we are stuck with a locked BL
Well, it's little off-topic, but what if we collect enough unlock code - IMEI/network ID pairs? If there is a database with tens or maybe hundreds of unlock keys, somebody smart enough can figure out the algorithm needed to generate unlock code to everyone.
Naturally nobody should post he's IMEI and unlock code in public. There must be somebody (preferably developer) who will collect those keys via PM or email.
What do you think about that?
