[Q] ROMs flashable through ODIN? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering..
What ROMs are currently being developed here on XDA (both the original android & android ROMs sections) are flashable through ODIN? and is there a benefit to flashing through CWM?
Thanks heaps

flashing through odin you can flash stock roms from different regions and also litening pro...check the android development section and you will find the rom thread there. also if you are going to root do your homework first...
benefit of flashing through CWM is it makes life alot easier...ie flashing through your computer each time you want to put a new rom on your phone...all your answers are in the original development thread

Yeh..I've been using Lite'ning Rom (currently on v6.1) on my SGSII, but I wanna jump on android 2.3.5.
Any recommendations on ROMs that can be flashed via ODIN..and provides good battery life?

Stock 2.3.5 from Intratechs thread .

Do stock like JJe suggested and then just enjoy the beauty of it...give yourself a week trying it out and in between read through the original dev forums about roms and how everything works...each rom thread has guides on installations and how they work...if you got more questions feel free to ask me

How to restore stock recovery?

I just rooted, I've got ROM Manager and I'm about to use it to install the ClockworkMod recovery.
If I ever decide I don't want it, can I restore the phone's factory recovery console? If so, how? And will the method vary as kernels, firmwares etc do?
Thank you.
As much as I know, ROM Manager does not work on SGS2. Please search for the "CWM" thread in the "original development" forum.

Then I wonder how I am to perform the same kinds of activities ROM Manager supports, like installing and backing up ROMs. Is there a GUI-based alternative?
Im also some what new at thia stuff.
First you should get your hands on the program called ODIN and also the cf root that matchs your current phones verison.
Thay way when you flash your phone tou get clockwork mod and then back it up.
I am sure others can get into more detail but as i said.... I am also new at using ROMS

First stop posting your questions in the dev sections, second you don't need rom manager to do all that, you simply need a to flash a kernel that has cwm recovery built in, that's what rom manager boots into anyway.

can i root my s ii without a computer?

I dont have a computer. is there a way to root without it? My firmware is 2.3.4 and its kernrl is ki2. Thanks
I saw a thread a while ago, I can't find it now so you're gonna need to search, but you just put an update.zip in your sd, flash it in stock recovery, and viola - you have CWM (be sure to download a rooted kernel). Good luck.
If anyone knows of the thread please post links

Zips flashed with e3 needs to be signed and I think siyah is signed unlike many other roms and kernels so flash siyah and reboot to recovery recovery to flash anything, if you want to keep you current rom, I think downloading superuser is enough

zaheedahmed,
Yes it works on ICS not GB Since devices come with GB then they'd have to use ODIN to flash ICS
Anyway thread closed since been asked over and over!

You can make any rom light by debloating it with ROMCleaner from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827817. For out of the box light rom`s see Android Development thread.

Hi. Thanks so much for the reply. I have a few questions. Pardon me if I ask some stupid questions.
1. I can remove any bloats regardless of the ROM I am running?
2. What are modems? What can I get if I flash CWM modems?
3. I usually see Odin and Mobile Odin but I don't know what they are for and how to use them.
If you are running any good ROM, then you can suggest me Thanks again.

1. ROMCleaner is for debloating any samsung based rom
2. See item 4 in my signature for CWM flashable modems, modems are for connecting with your provider, are location/country based.
3. Odin/Mobile Odin are used to flash stock firmware,.tar/.md5 file based modems and kernels, see item 3 in my signature how to use Odin.

Hence the word recommendation. People can recommend any rom based on their personal preference. sigh!

Hey
I currently downloaded this ROM
ArchiDroid v2.4.1 (Hope its right)
And checked the FAQ on how to root
It shows the Auto CF method which seems simple but doesnt install a custom recovery
Is that fine or is there another method to root with cwm preferred. as i am used to flashing new roms via cwm
Or is odin the best way to flash this rom?

Ability to flash custom rom on g900tuvu1gpe1?

Hi all, I've tried using the search function and looked through the similar threads. However, I am unable to find a thing about it. I was wondering, for my own device's safety, if I am able to flash a custom rom on baseband g900tuvu1gpe1 (if baseband matters). It's been a while since I've actually flashed any custom rom and have never flashed a custom rom on my tmo s5. Oh and I am using TWRP for recovery. Thank you!

I think you need to work on your search skills. There is a whole sub-forum for ROMs for the SM-900T:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/development
And, you can flash international ROMs for the phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5
There is a link in my sig for a Stock Rooted Deodex ROM, that I'm using.

Thank you for the response. However, that doesn't answer the question I had asked on the title of the post.
