Rooting 2.2.1 with Mac - HTC Aria Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been looking for a way to root my girls phone, thing is that I only have access to a Mac and I can't find a version of alpharev for Mac. So, are there any other options?

I'm not sure if 2.2.1 will work with Unrevoked?
Edit: Hmm, it's been too long since I've kept up with the Aria development. Nevermind, looks like you'd have to update to 2.2.2 and then use AlphaRev, which you can't use.

[Q] root method!!

whats the best method to root my mopho?? thanks a lot guys
I don't think you can go wrong with the AIO one click root at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217416
(follow 'download' link to android creative syndicate forum)
did mine and my wifes no problems
A lot of people have good luck with the AIO method. I personally don't like it though. I prefer the photon-torpedo method. But that's just my preference.
I used AIO One Click Root myself, and it always works, that is true, you cannot go wrong with it as long as you follow the few directions.

aio is the best
question is everyone rooting straight out the box or running the System update then rooting
Sent from my HERO200 using xda premium
Doing a System Motorola Software Update, then Rooting. If you have the device, I personally recommend System Update, Install Proper Drivers To Your PC, and Using the AIO One Click Root Method. It is arguably the easiest.
I can't make it work

getting a photon in less than a month researching root methods still on the fence about unlocking. no 4g around me for 100 miles but still can't seem to bring myself to intentionally screwing something up. think IM going to root and run stock ROM

Joker has a rom that can be used with a locked bootloader.

I too used AIO method from ACsyndicate
Beautiful thing about this phone . You can use custom rom and kernal and if 1 day u wanted to go back just flash the sbf with rsd.
AIO all the way

thanks for all ur help people
If you don't have 4G in your area, then you gotta unlock the BL and flash one of Joker's ROM's and Kernel's, makes the phone ridiculously fast. Plus it still serves its main purpose, being a phone. To me, that's full of win. Plus I'm in Diego with no 4G.

Market upgrade on stock MT4G

As someone pretty experienced with Android, I'm embarrassed to have to ask this, but I'm at my wits end with this issue. How in the heck do you upgrade the Market app to the latest version on a stock/unrooted MT4G? My friend's phone is stock. When they had Froyo, it was easy to download the latest version from XDA and install it like a normal app. Ever since they got the GB OTA update, I get the "installation failed" message when trying to install.
The reason we need the latest version is the 10 cent discounted promotional prices don't show up on the old version...the app's regular price is listed.

Good idea, very simple. However, this person is very cautious when it comes to rooting and possibly voiding the warranty (even if temp rooting doesn't actually do that). I was hoping there was a Market build intended for stock phones, or that the new version could be pushed OTA to the phone somehow (shouldn't that have happened a long time ago anyway?).
Try clearing data in application settings for market

One of the first things I tried.
I know it doesn't solve the market problem but what about buying on market.android.com

The phone already received the GB OTA update, so as I understand it Visionary won't work. Do newer versions of Visionary work, or is there some other way of gaining temp root?

there is no one click root anywhere for htc phones.. that was developed for motoroal and other model android phones.. to root htc you have to flash root from recovery.. for samsung some you can use the superoneclick or you can use odin (cuz superone click is built for fast automating odin)

question is your bootloader unlocked? because i just saw this video here on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L30M6j8Kt-8 that talks about this script... i'm not sure if you have the right one you might want to check with video.. just saw that, that script was from xboarder56 and i googled and found other instructions here http://theunlockr.com/2012/05/01/how-to-root-htc-amaze-4g/ but idk.. the normal way has always been the only way that has worked for me, but your welcomed to try

anyway i can s-off using windows?

i finally build up the courage to attempt the s-off but everywhere i look it says you must have ubuntu if this is true then i wqont be able to cuz i know nothing about ubuntu lol and i only have access to a friends comp
I used Windows. Not sure if the J-Bear method is still available on here. But it should be a sticky in the Development Section.
Edit... here it is. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611977
You can use a Ubuntu live CD. Basically it will run Ubuntu on your friends computer but it won't install Ubuntu. The process is pretty straight forward with Ubuntu I think

[Q] Guide for Rooting?

I am switching from a S5 to the M8 shortly and am trying to find a guide on how to root this phone. It's very possible I just missed it while looking through the forum or maybe there isn't one at all. Keep in mind that I am a Mac user and have 0 access to a windows machine. Could some link me to a guide if one already exists or if one doesn't could anyone, with the knowledge to do so, make a guide on how to do this.
Thanks guys.
Here is the link to root but you might be out of luck if you can't use a PC. I believe this is only for PC and I think I read that a Mac version won't be worked on but I could be wrong.
Also, there is a video on YouTube that breaks down how to use the toolkit.

Yeah I've seen this one. It looks incredible other than being locked down to PC. Maybe I'll Downloader a virtual machine or something. Idk.
