I am switching from a S5 to the M8 shortly and am trying to find a guide on how to root this phone. It's very possible I just missed it while looking through the forum or maybe there isn't one at all. Keep in mind that I am a Mac user and have 0 access to a windows machine. Could some link me to a guide if one already exists or if one doesn't could anyone, with the knowledge to do so, make a guide on how to do this.
Thanks guys.
Here is the link to root but you might be out of luck if you can't use a PC. I believe this is only for PC and I think I read that a Mac version won't be worked on but I could be wrong.
Also, there is a video on YouTube that breaks down how to use the toolkit.

Yeah I've seen this one. It looks incredible other than being locked down to PC. Maybe I'll Downloader a virtual machine or something. Idk.

There is a few links discussing a working ubuntu on the TB. Even one that claims to have steps on how to do it but unfortunately that specific thread has been closed. Any help relating to this would be a big help. Thank you
You might was want to go look at AndIRC in #thunderbolt. Someone there should be able to help.
Please don't send people to IRC for a simple web search anser.

Trust me I did that search. It just brings up a thread with dead links or leads to closed threads

Yeah I had the same problem trying to find a not dead link for that so I gave up.
I will work on putting something together

Thanks for the link sir
I've searched all morning for an answer to this and while there is a thread that includes somewhat instructions to do it on a mac. those instructions are very faint. if someone here has used a mac and knows of easy way to unlock the bootloader feel free to share
a short how to would be nice of you as well. I'm familiar with using terminal if its needed.
btw im rooted already.
jeez no one?
Bootcamp windows?

That is what I use (bootcamp) for anything that requires more than some adb stuff.

Yeah it looks like ill have to resort to that...
Using "sbf_flash" on a mac?
So, I've been reading a ton and still am unsure... is there any reason I could not follow the instructions on this thread here to unlock my bootloader with a Mac? (And would it also work to flash the sbf as well?)
(Seems very similar to instructions on doing this on a mac for the Atrix too).
Those threads seem pretty old, so I just want to make sure they are still accurate, and I am not missing some reason I see so many people say using a Mac isn't possible....

I second facepalm.
I did run into a strange issue where I had to manually
eboot to bootloader and fastboot & issue the commands. I'm first to experience that problem. Other than that it worked great.

I also had to upgrade supersu to pro version. For some reason it wouldn't grant root to adb trying the sipercid commands.

If you're on the latest firmware you'll need to use Babyracun to downgrade and then continue with Dirtyracun or Facepalm. I did Babyracun and then Facepalm.

I was in the same position, just ended up borrowing a friend's macbook. Going S-Off on Linux is mockingly easy.
Try hopping on a friend's macbook for an hour or so?
Or Google Ubuntu live cd or usb.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I didn't even know what Ubuntu was and I was able to get s-off. I suggest you make a live cd and play around with it until you feel comfortable. Its easy just follow the directions to the letter, and download all the files completly first before you try starting the s-off process. Thats what I didn't do and kept getting an error. Team Unlimited also has a support channel.

Burn a LiveCD
Sent from "The One"
A 32 bit or i386 Os will work on a x64 system. However you can install x64 Ubuntu and just install all the dependencies required using the i386 flag on apt-get
Edit: I recommend just getting the 32bit live cd or usb

They say live usb interferes with usb connection at times. Better to play it safe like big daddy said. Live CD is easy, I use img burn to burn the iso.

i finally build up the courage to attempt the s-off but everywhere i look it says you must have ubuntu if this is true then i wqont be able to cuz i know nothing about ubuntu lol and i only have access to a friends comp
I used Windows. Not sure if the J-Bear method is still available on here. But it should be a sticky in the Development Section.
Edit... here it is. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611977
You can use a Ubuntu live CD. Basically it will run Ubuntu on your friends computer but it won't install Ubuntu. The process is pretty straight forward with Ubuntu I think

Bilal if you're wondering why it was removed it was because of some idiot who made Hasson mad and he remove it.
Just use an Ubuntu live cd, Ubuntu is free and better than Windows and it is the only thing unlimited.io supports now because some people got bricked in windows so it was better not to risk it.

Actually just to prevent false things from being believed, that is not why hasoon2000 removed it. That is semi-the reason why unlimited io removed the Windows version but hasoon2000 removed it by request from unlimited I/o bcuz they didn't want anyone else using in their tools

Before you start messing around, you should know that unlimited.io NO LONGER supports the Windows version of juopunutbear s-off, and read through this thread and understand why links to juopunutbear s-off for Windows should NOT be posted here:
