New the Thunderbolt - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just switched to verizon and new to this phone. I wanted to see what people thought were the most stable roms with improved battery, etc.... Thinking about flashing something. Tired of this buddy GB release

With really heavy use. using wireless tether, streaming pandora, checking facebook, email, news etc and extended battery, and 4G on all day. I get really good battery life
Im running BAMF Forever 1.0.6
imoseyon 3.8.0
under speedtweak.sh batterysaver 245/1024 Smartassv2
726 CDMA/802 LTE Radios
extended battery
Also followed the guide for better battery life and generating a good battstats.bin from the BAMF Forums

Any of the aosp roms are usually a good bet but I'd go with cm7 omfgb or...
Liquid Gingerbread 3.0!?

Running BAMF Forever 1.0.6 with the 726 CDMA/802 LTE Radios
I also have an extended battery.
Savage makes a good point with knowing the tips/tricks to conserve uneccessary battery drain. I have read a TON of these forums, but really didn't start posting until today. WELCOME to the Thunderbolt, though!

Using the BAMF Forever ROM with stock batter and new radios. Battery is the best of any ROM I tried.

Gets even better using set CPU even on their baked in stock kernel just set up some profiles for screen off and such

If you are looking for a Sense based ROM I've been enjoying Synergy. Flashed the new radio, live in 4G and get through a full work day with no worries about the battery.

Bamf Sense 3.0 RC2 BATTERY WOES

I have Bamf Sense 3.0 RC2 with the stock kernal it came with. WORKS GREAT but the battery life on RC1 is HORRIBLE. it drains 24/7 is it the kernal or radio or rom that causing it to suck. It also charges Very slow.

It could be a combination of things, but more than likely, not the ROM itself. Imo came out with his latest GB kernel, which corrects the slow charging issue. You can also try using the speedtweak script to set on 'battsaver' which will underclock and not overclock to save battery.
Of course, there are the standard settings such as screen brightness and sync settings that also affect battery life. 4G is a tremendous battery hog even on the best ROM. Try to stay on Wi-Fi or if not downloading, 3G.
Here is the link to the latest kernel by Imo....download 1) lean test from the GB sense downloads section.

thanks man im going to try the lean kernal.
I noticed with 3.0 sense bamf that
1. going in and out of calls is laggy
2. on call (most other roms too) battery drians 1-2% every minute

i had the same problem with battery life on this rom. i loved the look and the feel of it but 5 hours wasnt working for me. i did a lot of tweaks with wifi only, 3g only, brightness and auto sync, but still nothing changed. I switched over to gingerth3ory v4.2 last night charged to 100% with a battery calibration and running on 14 hours. with all the roms that i have flashed my phone tends to stay the same as far as setting.
It really seems as if you just have to use whatever runs best on your phone. I've heard nothing but people loving battery life on AOSP alpha ROMs so far and when I load them my battery sucks down like a champ. On the BAMF Stripped V1.8 my battery is pretty damn good. I'd just try out whatever ROM you like and see what has the best results for battery life on YOUR device.
You should try Bamf Sense 3.0 RC3 and run imo's kernel. might squeeze out more batterylife
Getting 40+ hours on BAMF 3 here
How does someone get 40 hours on their phone!? even when my phone is sitting on the couch next to me on idle I'm still only getting 14-16hrs AT MOST. Whats your tricks? extended battery?? I refuse to throw that brick on the back of my phone!

It really isn't that big at all. I felt the same way when it came out and I saw pictures of others with it on. But when you actually get it, its isn't bad at all, and I have grown to like it more because it helps when holding the phone in landscape view so much more. Plus the fact of knowing I can do whatever I want with my phone, all day, and make it through with no problem. This is also being OC'd to 1.6 24/7

I couldn't of said it better myself. The extended battery really isn't that bad. And knowing I can do w/e I want all day and make it home is more than worth the cost and added size!

Best ROM in terms of battery life?

Im using cm7 right now and I really don't like it in terms of battery life. What are u guys using?
the rom won't give you bad or good battery life, the kernels do. try the eclipse or kangbang kernel. also as you know keeping 4g on no matter what rom causes excess drain.
that's funny. CM7 is one of the best for battery life. have you tried out different radios? the MR2.5 worked well for me when i was on CM7. i've been switching around lately between a few of DroidTh30ry's AOSP ROMs and using the new MR3.5 radio. it's still been doing well.
in general though, i find that AOSP roms are much better on battery then Sense based ones.
[EDIT] yeah the kernal plays a big part to. i decided to switch back to CM 7 1.6.1, MR3.5(802) radio and using Tiamat's kernal.
the Imoseyon 'leankernal' does a really good job to
The latest leaked ruu is giving me amazing battery life. I mean I've went from 9 hours with out plugging my phone in to

I'm getting excellent battery life from SkyRaider Zeus Preview on his stock kernel and the rooted 7/8 OTA radios.
Best ROM i've seen, period.
battery life is an awfully subjective topic, right up there with "best rom," "best kernel" and "best phone"
Don't forget "coolest car," "HOTTEST PORN,"AND "BEST WINE."

Amen, I totally agree with you!!
theres a lot you can do besides rom for battery life, but contrary to what is said above the rom DOES affect battery life. im on synergy and its great. but i also undervolt to 246 when screen off and run dconfig to kill apps when i get to 200mb of ram left. what ive found most affects battery life to be honest is how good your service is where your using your phone
Try this kernel
Gives me a ton of battery life!!!

Try Liquid Thunderbread....my favorite ROM, its light, fast and gets great battery life.

Just rooted today...
My main issue is to extend the battery life.
Do I need to install a ROM to do that
If so what ROM do you suggest, but prefer something that is fast, barebones, great battery life, I am prolly going to be running go launcher...
How long have you been with the phone? I just got it a few days ago and waiting to "break-in" the battery...
I know for my t989 it was the same deal.
There are a few kernels that really help, go to the dev section and read up on them (and roms too!).
Install a custom rom and kernal.

I just got the phone on the weekend and installed xboarders BulletProof ROM day before yesterday and the SetCPU app. My battery life has improved dramatically. Now I can get 14-16 hours of moderate use out of the phone on 4g. This gets me through my day and has made this phone the PERFECT device for me. I love it!!
On Wifi and with more careful power management the battery could definitely last up to 24 hr.

Leaving WiFi on and scanning while not connected to a network will drain your battery, but in a head-to-head wifi vs 4g connection battle WiFi comes out on top.

I had if for a few months... you are 100 percent right about the break in period, when I first got this phone I could almost watch this phone drain to nothing..
I also purchased a couple of anker batteries and a wall chargers... I noticed that if I complete charge and drain the battery the life would even get better I did this about 12 times for each battery.

Yes you need to do both. Most, if not all, ROMs come with their own kernel that must be installed so that everything in the ROM works correctly. You flash a rom through recovery and then use fastboot to install the kernel. A lot of the current ROMs come with a script that flashes the kernel for you though, so it's not a big deal. (Other devices that have S-OFF can flash the kernel directly when you flash the rom, which is one reason why we want S-OFF so much, so possibly think about donating to the cause).
Awesome... installed the 4th sense rom... I am very happy with it so far!
I also flashed kernel by faux.. but I am not sure if took, how can I tell?
Any suggestions for overclocking my cpu... or does the kernel do that?
thanks a bunch guys I will let you know how the battery life issue goes!
Donations... Yes I will send some juice to these folks!

You'll know it works by not having any problems. I believe the kernel overclocks it for you, but OCing lowers battery life, so it kind of goes against what you originally wanted.

No problems so for.. battery life looks really good so far.. I just popped in a fresh battery so I will see how it goes.
It is overclocked for sure... I ran a couple of benchmark tests. We will see how it goes... I would like to get through a day... finally..
I am even thinking of underclocking... thanks again!

I've tried almost all of the roms here (except bulletproof) in combination with stock and faux kernels. The best combos I came up with for battery was BeastMod and 4th Bar with stock kernel from BeastMod. No matter what I did with faux kernels (OC, UC, Undervolt) I could never beat the battery life of stock kernel. Good luck and keep us updated.

For the limited time I have been on kernel and Rom there is been no significant change in battery life.
The phone is faster that is for sure.. that will drain battery
faster but I a running less widgets and no live wallpaper that I normally rock.
The deal breaker for me is that the sound remains on when you close apps/games... and stays on even when the screen is off.
I will give beat mod a try with a stock kernel.

[Q] ROM with stability, speed, AND battery life

I'm currently running BAMF Forever 1.10, which I was loving for the incredible bump to my battery life and the fact that everything runs solid on it, no matter what. However, I am not loving the speed of this thing. I let an iphone user use my phone, and she kept thinking it was broken because it was responding so slowly.
I was running cm7 before, which was nice and quick. Unfortunately it had horrible battery life. Can anyone recommend a rom that might be a better balance between speed, battery life, and stability. I'd love to try them all, but alas, there are only so many hours in a week.
I'm running Thunderstick Bareback. It's stable and battery life is very good.
It's a no Sense ROM and I've been converted to prefer ROMS w/o Sense by it.
I have to say Liquid Smooth 3.2
It's given me the best battery life, best stability, above average speed and superb customization.
I know others have had myriad bugs pop up and stability issues, but for whatever reason, everything on my phone has been clockwork, regardless of what launcher/widgets I use.
Give it a try why not, with a nandroid back up, what do you have to lose?
I have been using SkyRaider Zeus 1.3 Bolt since I got the Thunderbolt back on Black Friday 2011; I have tried every ROM and it is my Personal Favorite.
+1 for Liquid Smooth (Liquid Gingerbread) 3.2
I'm running the LeanKernel 6.1.0 on battery saver mode and it's still much faster than the iPhone and battery is easy 18 hours or more.
+1 on liquid, but can't seem to get Gmail working

CleanRom DE Vs SlimRom, Which is better/More Stable?

I had to start this thread up because I am considering either one of these roms as my stable daily.
In my week of research after owning my Rezound, these are the best De-Sensed ICS roms out there.
I wanna know though, what are the main differences betweeen Slim Rom and Clean Rom DE?
I cant really see a difference accept, that I prefer the ICS theme on SlimRom as it takes the rom to almost AOSP in appearance.
I want something that is super fast, Clean and looks the most AOSP as possible.
It also has to be stable.
Please advise
only primary difference is slimrom has the most updated leak but cleanrom de is probably the most aosp in appearance
SlimROM ran smoother for me when I ran it.
Also consider CleanROM won't probably be updated any longer as Scott is gone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Scott did say he'll come update when official ICS comes out...not sure if that's still the case or not.
I think Scott has a Google Nexus now so I don't know if he'll take time to rebase his CleanRom when ICS is released.

Cleanrom de. It has more options and is smoother and more AOSP like
I would also recommend tonked Rom. It's not here. He put it up on the bamf site. I'm running it now and It's beyond smooth. I think it was right at 300mb size wise so it's pretty slimmed down

IMO, Slim Rom is the best rom out right now, that is still being maintained. By far. I get shockingly great battery life with this rom in comparison to any other rom I've ran for this phone. And it has pilots themes which are always incredible. Also, tether will work on any rooted rom as long as its setup properly. But it's easy enough to flash roms so give them both a try for a few days and see which one you prefer.

What kind of batter life are we talking here with how much usage? Ive been on a quest for better battery life and I've yet to find a ROM that is satisfactory.
I was running Tonked and liked it, but got a bit of flashitis and am running Nils business right now. I don't think I will keep it for too long as the battery life isnt any better, maybe worse but too soon to tell, and I don't think I like sense very much.

Well as I don't have exact figures for you I can tell you that the battery drain while screen is off is almost non-existent. On all of my previous ROMS I ran I would always turn off LTE unless I was going to be downloading something so I could save on battery life. WIth this rom I have LTE on 100% of the time and have far better battery life than I did when 3G was enabled on other roms. Also, when I play temple run the battery drain is almost cut in half and possibly even more compared to other roms. I use my phone constantly throughout the day and would always have my phone charging at my desk at work, but with slim rom I can easily last the whole day until I go to bed with heavy use and off the charger. I have no idea why that rom is so much better for me, but it is. Huge difference from any other rom.
I think slim rom is under 240MB...all of the normal sense stuff is ripped out and it runs amazingly. How hard is it to create a backup and flash a new rom? Just give it a try.

Oh its not at all and I will. I was just curious. I'm sure you've seen plenty of people, like I have, that say they get amazing battery life and then they post a screenshot and you see the screens never on or something like that.
I'm backing up right now as I was getting pretty terrible battery life from the Sense Rom I was running. Maybe it was still settling but its full day 2 on the ROM and no improvement, for me that's not worth waiting to see what little improvement I may get from it.
