[HELP] KI3 Black Screen after Restore Apps via Titanium Backup - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

=== UPDATE ===
This is not Titanium Backup problem.
It is ROM >= 2.3.5 problem, I have created a thread about this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446961
==============
I have weird problems after changing from official stock 2.3.4 KI4 to official stock 2.3.5 KI3 (both from intratech).
I have ~452 user apps backed up in TitaniumBackup 4.0.2, situation:
- flash KI3 > wipe data/fact reset > restore all user apps via TB > black screen
- flash KI3 > wipe data/fact reset > reinstall all apps 1by1 via Market > no problem
- flash KI3 > wipe data/fact reset > reinstall ~360 apps 1by1 via Market > no problem > restore remaining ~92 user apps via TB > black screen
- flash KI4/KH3 > wipe data/fact reset > restore all user apps via TB > no problem
I also tried only restore user apps (not user apps+data) but still black screen in KI3.
I also tried option "App processing mode": "Interactive (Classic Android Installer)" in TB but also black screen.
The black screen I mean is after booting, after around 2-3 minutes, the screen becomes black, only status bar is visible, lock-screen is also visible when locking then unlocking screen. System is not responding, then there is popup "Process Ssystem is not responding" [FC]/[Wait].
Then system will soft-reboot without displaying the "Samsung Galaxy S2" and without boot screen animation (only hear boot sound), but it will keep in black screen, then display popup, then soft-reboot again.. cycle continues..
I experience in flashing my SGS1 ~100 times and SGS2 ~15 and I never had problem before when restoring from Titanium Backup.
I need TB to restore the apps data.
Somehow TB backup/restore process is not compatible with 2.3.5?
Anyone experiencing this problem? (especially when you have so many apps backups)
Is there suggestion what can I do? Where to look at error debug message if any?
Note: All is stock (with kernel CF-Root KI3 v4.1)

Wow, no reply at all.
Seems that only me having 450+ apps
By the way, I try MyBackup Root instead of Titanium Backup but same problem.
Somehow the firmware 2.3.5 can not handle so many restored apps
I guess there is something different between 2.3.5 and earlier 2.3.x. in loading apps database.

have you tried searching through the forums and see if any results come up on TB? what i mean like guides on how to sort problems out? i dont want to suggest anything and you lose your apps cause thats quite alot...what id normally say would be try clean wipe the rom your on...what i mean is wipe your data cache and dalvik flash the rom that your on (thats if you are on custom rom) and then once your back on your rom then try and install your apps through TB again...by the way do you have the premium version of tb or just freee version

I already mailed to TB support and I give the adb logcat too.
The problem is not with Titanium Backup only, but MyBackup Root also. I also tried the latest TB 4.5.0 free version but same problem.
So I think there is something changed in 2.3.5 dealing with (many) restored user apps.
I already tried all kind of stuffs I know: wipe data/fact reset, wipe data cache, wipe dalvik, fix permission.
Even just restoring user apps (not apps data) is still problem in 2.3.5 KI3.
I use only stock rom + cf-root for rooting.
I will now try it with the new KI8..

[Q] Restore applications and settings after 1.4 upgrade

one quick question in setting up the upgrade from 1.3d to 1.4:
When using Titanium Backup, I back up all user apps + system apps.
Once upgraded to 1.4 can I restore also system apps, or I can mess something doing this? It's better to restore only user apps?
Thanks
You don't need to use any apps to restore after upgrade. All the apps should still be there if u only did an upgrade without a reformat factory settings
Thanks but if I understand correctly the Dexter's instructions, he recommends to do a Wipe (Factory Reset) before and after installing the ROM. In such a case, I guess that all apps and settings will be lost. And then, it is when I gess I need to restore from a previous backup or otherwise I would need to restore everything manually, app by app.
Even if you don't wipe out you apps and data, it maybe be better if you do a backup in case something goes wrong... Bad things happens when we least expect
OK, but my original question remains:
Once upgraded to 1.4 (and making a wipe) can I restore also system apps by using Titanium Backup, or I can mess something doing this? It's better to restore only user apps?
What system apps that you want to back up with Titanium? I recommend you to check the change log from each of Dexter version to see if any of your system apps is being changed in the new update or not. If it's changed in the new update then don't back up it, otherwise it's safe to do so.
OK, thanks. That's what I did.
Since after installing the ROM, all applications there were the ones coming with the ROM, I didn't restore any existing app, assuming it is already the last and correct version. I was therefore restoring only those missing, and it worked fine. The only problem, I guess, is that by doing this way I didn't restore the app data for those apps coming with the ROM. Not a major problem.

[Q] Force closing problems with das bamf 2.1/mr2.5

I'll go ahead and apologize for the length of this, I just want to provide as much information as possible.
I have a rooted Thunderbolt. My original issue was that I was having numerous restarts daily, and I would drop the mobile network all the time and thus couldn't send/receive texts or calls. I posted on AndroidForums and it was suggested to me to flash the rom and update the radio. My previous phone was a rooted incredible, but this was my very first time messing with the radio and/or rom. I did a nandroid backup and followed the guides to do both. I flashed the das bamf 2.1 rom with mr2.5 radio. Everything seemed to be ok, I didn't have any weird issues, but since I am new at this, I'm not completely sure if something went wrong or not. Here is the current problem I am now having...
I can no longer sync my google calendar, I keep getting the com.google.process.gapps force close error. And I get the com.android.phone force close error as well and will loose connection with the mobile network for a few minutes. Also I cannot get any pic messages to send/receive. And I just noticed that when someone calls me, my screen turns on, but it doesn't come up with the answer call screen it just lights up, and I can't answer the call.
I have tried searching for solutions but haven't found anything to work. I fixed permissions with rom manager, and have tried toggling sync on and off on the calendar and cleared data under manage applications with no success. Is there maybe something that I missed along the way or maybe some other solution to try that anyone can suggest? Or is there any additional information that I need to provide? Thanks!
Did you use Titanium Backup to restore apps? Also did you use ROM Manager to flash ROM or did you do it directly from Recovery? Also did you wipe before flashing the ROM?

I followed the guide on that site.... I did use titanium backup to restore the apps. I used rom manager to flash, but I did wipe before flashing (I think!). I have the new rom manager so what I did was download the zip files for the rom, move them to sd card and use rom manager's install rom from sd card, and selected backup, wipe data & cache and dalvik when prompted.

Don't flash from ROM Manager. It seems to cause problems with some phones. Flash the ROM directly from Recovery (Make sure you wipe). Also when you successfully do that and everything is working, download the latest version of Titanium Backup from the market. The Titanium Backup included in the ROM caused problems for me as well. Just to be safe, download the ROM again.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot later tonight and see if it fixes everything!
Haven't personally had any problems with RM on the Tbolt yet. Performs each function just fine. Since he said he wiped, sounds like he's restoring something from TiBu that's causing problems.
If it's lots of things with FC's:
Wipe and don't restore using TiBu. If you still get FC's then that's not the problem and you may want to reflash the rom.
If it's only a few things, you can wipe the data for those particular apps in Settings->Applications->Manage Applications
This might be off topic, but you mentioned Titanium backup. I had my first major issue with Titanium backup last night. I too am on MR2.5 and everything went fine when I flashed the ROM but after I ran Titanium backup my phone kept going to the HTC screen as if it was doing a fast boot. I ended up having to clear out all my Titanium backups and restoring my applications directly from market to get my phone back to par. I hope that helps someone.
Things that were mentioned and things to add.
*Always flash roms from CWM (Clockwork Recovery Manager) not ROM Manager
*Always do a full wipe before flashing any new ROM. That means, go into CWM, Wipe Cache Partition/ Factory reset, Wipe Data, go to advanced and select wipe davlik.
*Run the ROM for a couple minutes to test if it's running smoothly and can connect to Google market.
*If it's running well, then proceed to titanium backup.

[q] i9100xxkg2 bug ?

hi guys , i come from android 2.3.3 just updated to I9100XXKG2 with odin i followed all the steps and when i restored my backups with titanium backup from previous rom i can`t acces my applications tryed to restore again to uninstall restore again but still can`t open "the application ... has stopped unexpectedly.pls try again", i tryed different kernels , different roms even to go back to my previous firmware but still the same error. pls help if someone else has the same problem share.I have like 400 applications with data and most of them doesn`t work bc of that error
Try restoring the apps only, no data. Restoring with data seems to cause problems when upgrading firmware.
I must ask....why on earth would anyone need 400 apps ??????
Dont restore anything in red in titanium backup, aka dont restore system data as this will cause issues.
Only green(useful and non iffy system data like sms's) and white (user apps) can be restored.
i restored only application without data..and also i downloaded from market some application and still force closed for all ,flashed some new roms with new kernels..but nothing changed i will try 2 more roms maybe the problem will dissapear
Do a factory reset and then reinstall your apps.

[Q] questions before sending phone to Samsung to repair screen

I accidentally cracked the screen of my SGS2 (just the glass, everything else is working) so now I have to send it to Samsung to repair.
I am running Entropy's stock ROM, rooted, and on 2.3.6 (from 2.3.4 OTA upgraded to 2.3.6, remains rooted), and I have Titanium Pro installed.
I have 2 questions before wipe my phone:
1. when I do factory data reset (Menu > Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset), will the phone come back as 2.3.6 and remain rooted? i know it is newbie question and the answer seems to be yes but I just want to make sure.
2. I will run "Backup all user apps + system data" and back it up to microSD card. When I restore after I receive the phone back, shall I restore system data as well as user apps+data? Would restore of system data cause instability and/or forced close type of stuff? I am sure those of you who play a lot with various ROMs know the answer. I am the type of person that just want to get to the same previous working status as the first priority.
thanks in advance
1. Yes. Flash a "back to stock" ROM.
2. Backup only the apps you installed. Not the ones on the phone. Don't backup the app data either. Just the apps.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
It sounds like you have the pro version of Titanium Backup with batch backup and restore. When I use TiBu, I back up all user apps + system data, but when I restore, I restore only missing apps + data. There are a few apps that are in the system, such as the memo, which I select and restore the data only individually, and that would not be possible if I didn't back up the system data initially.
For additional info on preparing your phone to return to Samsung, see the guide linked in my signature.
yes I am using TiBu Pro, and your suggestion of backup user apps + system data then selectively restore apps makes a lot of sense.
Just checked the flash count, "Customer Binary" is NO and "Current Binary" is "Samsung Official", so it is good to go. thanks for the reminder.

[Q] Unfreeze/Defrost without Titanium Backup

Hi there!
Using SGS 2, Rootet, CWM-based Recovery 6.0.3.1, AOKP-Rom patched with OpenPDroid
I was experiencing some Battery Drain and found an app that was using CPU all time.
Used Titanium Backup to freeze that app.
The app was "Einstellungsspeicher" (Guess something like "Settingsstore" in English) and it was NOT marked as system-app. But still i haven't installed it manually.
Unfortunately the system wasnt able to boot afterwards.
Id like to keep my data, so a factory reset is not the first choice, but the last resort.
Is there anything i can do to unfreeze/defrost the app?
[Q] Can i just flash the patched AOKP-Rom again and the system-apps will be restored (and the normal apps will still be installed)?
[Q] Is there a recovery-zip i can install to defrost all apps that are frosted?
[Q] Can i defrost it manually?
[Q] When i made a backup with CWM after i freezed that app, can i install the rom, then recover the "normal apps" by doing a advanced restore? what would i have to restore in order to not restore the frost-state?
What kind of data u want to save?
I think u should check ur choosen ROM for auto wipe during install feature.
Look the thread and name the ROM btw
If its non autowipe u should just flash it again from recovery without any wipes. all the user apps will remain

Thanks for that. I flashed it again, but the system still wont boot up. At least i got my boot animation back, so i guess the system-settings have been reverted already. (I disabled that animation in the settings before)
Since it still wont boot, I guess the question is still how i could possibly defrost the app from CWM.
The flashed rom was http: -- aokp.co - devices - i9100 Milestone 1 (2013-04-16)
I want to keep the app-data i stored since the last backup (which was when i installed the rom last time, a few weeks back).
If i could backup that data for certain apps now, i could make a factory reset.

BTW Uve got a Titanium Backup for freezing, but did u have any apps backup made?
try clear cache and dalvic in recovery after flashing rom.Reboot
If u made cwm backup with normal boot try advanced restore. Step by step trying to restore parts
U can upload cwm backup somewhere and send me a link via PM. Ill have a look
