Hi,
What is the battery life we may expect from a Galaxy S2 ? Mine (from fully charged) lasted only 3-4 hours surfing the web using 3G, maybe including some wifi usage, however screen was dimmed down. Isn't the battery supposed to last a little longer ? The phone is new and I am on the third day now. Is there anything wrong with my device or will battery performance improve after some battery cycles ?
Regards, Andre

haven't got one, but it is supposed to be much better than that
You can expect for more battery but you wont get until some optimization from google and samsung...

Mate 3g browsing on the sgs2 does kill that battery in 3-4 hours max.. that is actually the time scale most reviews give.. i know its a pain i hate it myself, but ull find generally using the phone ie camera, music etc gives you a longer battery. The browser rocks! but its a serious power drinker, i did discover that some sites are saying that using a 3rd party browser helps things abit e.g dolphin or opera. It has something to do wiv the gpu accelaration which enables u to do things like play 1080p videos in the stock browser and the constant smooth perfomance
oh and i found the battery does improve after a few cycles, but i think thats mainly due to the fact u tend to not be constantly playing with the phone al the time
Yep, 4 hours tops for me screen on usage.
Using Juice Defender which helps a bit..
Abouth the battery...
Earlier this evening my phone was at 28%, when i picked it back up an hour later it was 31%????
I watched the battery graph and it showed a Yellow line going upwarts slitghtly., is that strange??
Afterwards i saw green going down and than up again. I will post a pic of it.
Seriously, there are 5+ battery threads already, what is so specific about your case you felt the need to start a completely new discussion on it????
Fully charged this morning, moderate use throughout the day, on 52% now after 16 hours. I'm happy with that.
KE7.
Sent from my £2.99 Casio digital watch.
Im currently on 68% battery after 15h47m off charge. Wifi on all day. Moderate use. Photos and videos taken. A few benchmarks.
Battery now at 66%, after 20 hours and 6 minutes. Android OS running at 32% and it my largest process.
2% drop in battery over 4 hours with Android OS running at 32%... android OS bug my arse...
I wonder what would happen if people actually used their phones for talking.
I pre ordered this and waiting shipment. I can compare with the atrix i had, that the battery life was not to shabby but it had a 1900mah battery.
You can't expect amazing battery life with this phone
4.3inch screen
AMOLED+
1.2ghz CPU.
if they made the phone a bit thicker a tiny bit they could of put a bigger battery in there but samsung wants to compete with apple on thinest phones.

And it's more expensive so it's all about how much profit they want make and what price it's going to sell at.
well after the ke7 fw update my battery life seems to have improved
Doesn't sip too much when it's idle but mine tops out at 3.5h with screen on
Stock KE7, not rooted.
Must say this is the only dark spot in otherwise excellent phone.
Well still haven't got one and that doesn't discourage me at all

Mine is run about 1,5-2 days, not so intensive usage.
So, after being an iPhone user for a while, I've finally talked myself in to making the plunge and going for android and the SGSII seems to be the best handset available at the moment. I just have a few general questions that I would like answers from you guys who know.
Firstly, when rooting and flashing ROM's does it matter if you have a white or a black version? I still havnt decided which one to get but if this is the case id prob go with whichever one is supported more.
Secondly, battery life. Can you guys give me some real life battery stats? My iPhone 4s usually goes 12 hours then it needs charged. This would normally have around 5/6 hours of actual usage and thats with brightness set to virtually nonexistant in the settings. Would the SGSII be equal to or not far off that? I've seen theres an extended battery pack available too, does that make a huge difference?
Thanks

For rooting / custom rooms black or white doesn't matter. Important is model no. like i9100 international version or AT&T version etc. most roms and customization support i9100 international version.
I have both. SGS2 and iPhone 4s. Battery life is almost similar. On standby sgs2 gives me more time. but no big difference in practical use as per my requirements. SGS2 will last a day at least if you are a heavy user like me.

Well I'll be buying my SGSII from o2-UK. Not quite sure what version it will be. The Apps i used the most are messages apps. like Whatsapp and on the iPhone it drains battery for fun!
I was originally going to go for the Galaxy Nexus. But after seeing it in the plastic/glass it wasn't as nice as I'd expected.
I'd get the Galaxy Nexus over the Galaxy SII. Just my 2 cents.
Welcome to the land of freedom and variety!
No, colour doesnt matter, both have the same hardware, the ONLY diff is the physical housing.
Battery life should be around the same as a 4S, i can get a full day and ahalf with moderate use and around 10hours with heavy usage.

I dont think it warrants the extra money, here in the UK the SGSII with o2 is £449.99 but the Galaxy Nexus is £529.99

It will be a i9100 if you get it from O2 UK.
I get between 4 and 7 hours of screen on time, upto a few days of standby time, might only lose 3-10% ish over a 9h sleeping night (when i forget to plug my phone in) (idle usage will also depend if the phone is being woken up all the time, theres a great app called better battery stats - see sig - to help find out whats causing the problems)
The big factors are:
* Type of usage, 3D gaming will use more power than texting
* Data usage, wifi uses less power than 3G
I would get the 2000mAh battery, better life, not much thicker (though it does mess with some cases), and as its an official battery you know its not fake.
I would get the nexus myself, ICS + updates from google = win.
Though the SGS2 has one of the best non nexus dev communities (imo of cause).
In general, read lots of guides if you are going to mess around with your £300 slab of electronics

As long as the USB stick is fat32 (limits file size to 2GB).
Yeh, it sounds awesome, but I have never found the need, 32GB SD card ftw! (Also MHL adaptor, when my computer was in for repairs, I plugged my phone into my monitor, headphones plugged into phone, and used it as a media player, FTW! Shame we cant do USBOTG and MHL at the same time)
The nexus is more expensive, and not really "faster" than the SGS2, the only thing is a stock ICS look.
I was going to flog my SGS2 to move to the nexus, but then by bank balance told me to stop being a twit and use a ICS theme while I wait

I wouldn't leave my GS2 for a Galaxy Nexus, the Nexus has awful batt life, crap camera, weaker GPU and no memory card slot.
USG-OTG (On The Go) is the feature you are talking about, where you plug in a usb stick.
MHL is the tech used by the GS2 to do HDMI via the USB Port. Hopefuly someone can better explain MHL than i just did though, lol.

Ah I get it now!
Is 'screen on time' with Android how much you actually used your phone?
As for the battery-life I have more good news for you.
If you choose to install a custom-ROM later, you have the possibility of literally boosting your battery-life. MIUI+UC+UV=....well, my personal best was not charging the phone for three days and still have more than 60% on moderate usage.
And the second thing is the SAMOLED+ screen. While it has its downsides, the upsides make it clearly a winner when compared to a LCD. The contrast and brightness are high enough to make me use a low brightness-settings most of the time and still see everything, even if it's bright outside. This results in a better battery-life too.

Buy a 16gb micro sd or a 32gb sd remembering the phone has 16gb internal memory too (give or take customizations) and put all your films on your phone no need for anything else apart from a player app such as rockplayer or vital player to play back pretty much any format of video including xvid/divx and mkv with or without subtitles

I don't know, I have a 32gb card in there and I like to be able to add extra storage occasionally... Also adds to the convenience... I don't always have my usb cable for the phone but I generally carry a usb stick. Its plugged into the sgs2 adaptor so I always have that too. Good to "steal" stuff off of mates pc's without needing drivers to be installed...

You get about 4-7h screen on time, aka using it, how you spread that out over days is up to you!
Idle drain is very low as long as the phone manages to deep sleep, aka you dont have any rouge apps.

Looks like I'll be keeping my s2 longer than I thought. One of my main criticisms of it is battery life. Currently < 4 hours screen time is normal for me (actually pretty good as other roms were struggling to get 3 at times).
How much actual difference does it make? I'm not interested in tweaking voltages or under or over clocking btw, as tried all that and they introduce their own set of problems IMO. On paper the difference is only about 20% but I've heard some say it makes more difference than the paper figures would suggest?
Improved battery life would solve one of the phones main limitations for me.

Yes it will make difference. How much depends on your use.
If you unplug at say 8 am and your phone dies at 5 pm, this bump will get you pass 8 pm.
Less than 3 hours?!!!
I use mine virtually all nite at work (9 hour shift), I watch a movie, flash new ROM's, surf, text, you name it........ and I've not a yet ran out thru the nite!!
And then I charge it for about an hour or so before finishing, and again when I come back the following nite, before it all starts again!!
That's why I said, depends on use, and therefore put an example.
Should not be taken literally.
Yes. Been using one for > 6 mths & definitely better than stock battery (obviously, as you'd expect). How much difference does it make ? Approximately 20% I've found over an average period of 'mixed' (within a charge light/moderate/heavy usage) use (again as you'd expect given 2000mAh is a bit over 20% > than 1650mAh). More difference than the paper figures would suggest ? Lots of people on XDA make all kinds of outrageous/ridiculous claims about lots of things (battery calibration anyone ? ). I'll leave it at that.
I guess I was lucky as my I9100P came as standard with a 2000mAh battery.

Getting these extended batteries doesn't really help alot. You need a good kernel and ROM combination to get the best battery life.
If you're using ICS, Get Fluxi XX Kernel. Resurrection Remix and Fluxi will vastly improve your battery life. With heavy use, I can get 12-odd hours out of my battery. You also need a good modem because crap modems are battery hogs.

Tried fluxxi on CM9, at best it was no better than my current ROM, probably worse in fact.
Sammy ROM all the way for me, I get the fewest bugs and smoothest running.

I've looked at that ROM, and although it looks nice enough, I don't see any compelling reason to change the one I'm using, which, although it doesn't seem spectacular on battery life, is actually as good as most other ROMs I've used (and certainly better for me than the likes of CM9).
I've tried the whole undervolting / clocking, and just end up with a device that runs more "choppy" than as standard, and that annoys me more than having slightly iffy battery life.

Well I thought about this yesterday, basically from 100% to about 5% the phone lasted about 15 hours, and with just under 3 hours of screen time.
If I kept the configuration of the phone the same, I'd be getting approx 30 minutes extra screen time and about an extra 3 hours of standby time.
Realistically, it doesn't seem worth it. I'll probably just do what I do now and if I know that I will need the phone later in the evening, just keep it plugged into my USB cable at work when I'm not using, and, if necessarily, take my charger with me. Its not really a big deal.

You don't need undervolting/clocking to get good battery life. You just need a good kernel. My device isn't choppy at all and I've got my max clock speed set at 1.3 and I'm really happy with my battery life.
If you don't like the look of NeatROM, try Resurrection Remix, which Fluxi or N.E.A.K kernel.

An old thread I know, but somebody might find this useful.
There are 2000mAh batteries on eBay (for example) that are the same physical size as the standard battery. In fact these are just 1650mAh batteries with a different label. There are also genuine 2000mAh batteries that are slightly thicker (and more expensive and come with different battery covers) that should logically give 17.5% more life as (2000 - 1650) / 1650 = 0.175. I haven't tested one myself but this seems to match the 20% extra that others have mentioned.
My solution was to buy a battery charger and 3 spare batteries from eBay plus a retractable USB charging/data lead (all very cheap). These batteries are labelled 1800mAh but I doubt they are - they last no longer than the original 1650mAh one, but they were cheap so who cares?
When I'm at work I plug my phone into my PC if it needs it and when I'm driving I always charge it in the car cradle. If I don't have the opportunity (or forget) to charge it and the battery gets very low then I simply slap a full battery in and recharge the flat one. Changing batteries is quick and easy if you discard the nasty standard battery cover and use a Samsung mesh or Casemate case to hold the battery in and protect the phone. Works for me.
Definitely worth it, I have had one for a few months now. Stick with OEM tho! Got mine for $25 USD shipped through eBay. Had to hunt for weeks to find that and the seller was sold out in a day or 2.

How can paying over 5 times more for 20% extra battery life possibly be worth it? The cheapest 1650mAh battery on ebay.com is currently $4.99 with free shipping. Samsung OEM batteries perform no better than cheap knock-offs in my experience.
It has been allways said that when u get a new phone you must charge it for 12 hours in order to get optimal use of the device, how true is this.
A usual phone charge is for like 2 to 3 hours, i was told that when u first get a brand new phone you need to charge it for 12 hours for optimal performance. if u dont charge the phone for 12 hours later on the phone battery life will not be good moving forward, how tru is this.
For the record iam getting a Samsung Galaxy Note 5.3 ATT LTE, also i have another question.
Why is it that every android phone i ever had dies out so fast, but when it comes to a iPhone that phone can last for a long time, i really dont understand why it is like that, i have had many android phone HTC EVO 4G, G1, T-Mobile G2 and all these android phone die out really fast but the iPhone seems to last a very long time.
Why is that?

Why is it that every android phone i ever had dies out so fast, but when it comes to a iPhone that phone can last for a long time, i really dont understand why it is like that, i have had many android phone HTC EVO 4G, G1, T-Mobile G2 and all these android phone die out really fast but the iPhone seems to last a very long time.
Why is that?

I always charge my battery on any phone for at least 6 hours because the software telling you its at 100 after 2 is wrong. The first charge is important because you are starting a cycle of charging and draining.

I'm sure glad we dont use Ni-Cad batteries any more....LOL
I've never had problems with my note dying fast. I charge my battery over night clear all my programs a few times a day and restart my phone once a day. I can go over 8 hours of heavy usage with no recharge. And I've been on iphone since the second generation iphone 4 was the worse battery on heavy usage but great on standby

I always get a day and a half worth of use.
But seriously everyone do yourself a favor and turn off the battery percentage and just use the icon. Watching that percentage drop makes it feel like the battery goes faster. Ignorance is bliss.

None answering the question the way it is asked, LOL, u know when u get a phone and the wireless providers allways tell you to charge the phone for a full 12 hours before use.

The second post answered it perfectly. The first charge on new software will not necessarily tell you accurately when it's fully charged, so you want to keep charging it after it says its full. 12 hours is probably overkill but it will definitely be fully charged, 6 hours probably will but maybe not.
So the answer is you should charge it as long a possible out of the box and after any factory reset or new rom to ensure the software doesn't cheat you out of some battery life later on.
And for the second part of your original question:
In my opinion, the Iphone is designed to run programs that are written to a very specific standard to use the hardware in a very specific way and to be used by the user in a very specific manner, and this it does very efficiently in both battery and performance. But it needs a user that is fine with being told exactly how to use the phone.
Android phones allow anyone to create programs to use the hardware in ways they weren't initially intended to be used as/for.
I think of it as a Turnpike and a regular highway. The Turnpike is much more efficient, safer and faster but you are very limited to where you can exit, what you can see along the way and it cost you more to get on it. It's good for what it is but I would rather enjoy the trip as long as I have to drive.
Ehh... I've never had it make any difference to me. Then again I use a CPU governor and custom UC/OC kernels ASAP.

XDA is no longer worth my time.
Hi, I have a problem with my Ace. When I only use 2G and use my phone for calls/sms, my battery lasts for like 3 days. But if i have 100% full battery and I use the internet with (or without 3G), my battery lasts for like half an hour, drains from full to 0 and then phone turns off. If i turn on my phone again, it shows like 30% or more battery left, but if data connection is still on, I lose 1 percent in like every second.
This is not only with data connections. I drained my battery from 100% to 0 in like 1,5 hours with just looking some pictures and using the calculator. I would like to think my battery is dead, but it lasts like 3 days when used for calls/sms only.
I have tried recalibrating my battery many times, used different ROMs (stock and custom), still same.
Is there anything else I could do to check my battery status??
Anyway, I am looking for a new battery but not the original one. Im looking from eBay. I contacted the sellers and asked for the weights. Original battery weighs like 30g. I got replied that these two (2050mAh High Capacity Replacement Battery for Samsung Galaxy S5830 and aoonen 2PK NEW Li-Ion Battery for Samsung S5830 Galaxy ACE 1800mAh fast shipping) batteries weigh 50g and 60g. This makes them less likely to be the fake gold ones, or what do u guys think? Has anyone bought one of those batteries? Or can anyone recommend a battery with more capacity than the original one (1350mah)
I accidentally hit "thanks" button instead of reply
I'm 100% sure that something is wrong with your battery.
I've never heard about such long-life battery in Galaxy Ace.
3 days calls and texting ?
It's normal that battery drains faster when using mobile data, but not that fast.
If You can, ask a friend to borrow You battery from Galaxy Ace.
If everything will be okay then You'll know the naswer.
If other battery won"t last longer, then i suggest to check you phone for "short circuit".
Maybe something is wrong with your motherboard that is connected with 3G .. ?
okay thanks, can I use the battery from S5830i?

I believe so, they both use the same sized battery (1350 mAH, Li-ion Batteries)
Though I may be wrong someone correct me if I am wrong.

Hi,
I just bought two gold extended life (2450mAh) batteries for my Ace! I was meaning to test them against the stock one but hadn't got around to it yet. Didn't use the stock battery much as I think it's original to the phone which I recently bought 2nd hand.
If anyone wants me to do this test (properly) let me know.
Thinking about this; perhaps a few Ace owners could flash a common ROM and perform a standard discharge test. This would give us some baseline.

MT

Battery use
Hi
Im my SGA I have the same problem, usually lasts a day, using net 60% disappears in half an hour. Could be the browser configuration ? or the conditions of access to the network?
Is it's the browser, wich one is the best?

My batter is two years old and it works good.
I use CM7 and no super widgets. Maybe it saves energy.
Try another ROM, remove or switch off everything You don't need.
Maybe it will help You. If not, it's time to buy another battery.
Don't ask which browser is the best, because we don't know what You need.
I need my browser to browse websites. I don't use favourites on mobile phone, so everyone is the best.

There's an app called "Battery Drain". Try charging your phone to 100%, turn on Battery Drain and select everything except Vibrate, and let us know how long it takes to fully discharge.
I have a stock battery, and it lasted ~3 hours.
Myth
Hi.
Nothing works in my ROM, most of apps are useless (all?)
Changed to LastMyth, after some days I'll be back to share the experience
try to delete the battery.stats
real myth

Hello Jenson.
Sorry to desapoint you but de advantage of deleting battery stats is a Myth [not The Lastmyth] :cyclops:
See this
I re-installed ZDBox (old version) and helps a little, probably have to use a kernel
let's wait and see
For clearing ram Try Fastreboot
It's an app n will not run all time like other task killer apps and widgets
just click on icon it will clear ram
The gold high-power batteries for this phone.. are they any good?. If you have bought one can you please give some kind of feedback on them as I am considering buying one. Stock battery just doesn't cut the mustard.
Thanks.

Hi, if you use search you'll find lots of information, such as:

everything is inconclusive, except that there are advantages to using the stock
I have tried many ways to calibrate it and my conclusion was that this broken.
I compare it with another and mine is somewhat swollen
New battery on the way
Wow, just too many variables! For instance.. Any idea how many mA the vibrator uses when typing with haptic feedback? What about the extra battery used by the radio when your in a poor reception area, does my micro-sd use more power than yours? Etc.
Battery life comparisons will only be meaningful in conditions where the battery is the only changed variable. So i would charge two or more batteries; discharge one, then another, measuring the times. Both batteries would need to be new unless you just want to compare something tired and worn with just out the factory.
Not 100% but I think it's relevant how many amps you take at a time, in relation to total capacity.. The chemical tech. may be difference, but lead-acid cells give differing amounts of charge dependent on temperature, and rate of discharge. In most applications capacity (C), is measured over 20 hours (C/20). C/100 will see many more amps capacity, and C/10, fewer! Also consider a used battery could last a considerable time, if only the high drain occasion is minimal. Something simple like the vibrator could send an old battery 'over the edge' if the drain is too high.
What does all this mean to me? Unless you wanna spend hours discharging your phone battery finding out (not really), get a fresh battery online; they still don't cost much and are easy to find. Gold batteries have been available for some time so go with your gut on that one! Perhaps, like me, you think it's worth the risk.
If you really love your phone and think you'll still be holding on to it in a couple of years time - you'll be thankfull you bought a spare battery or two while they were still cheap
Peace!

Hello, problems of battery are the most important in the management of smartphones increasingly sophisticated. I know of no silver bullet, so it makes sense to always have an alternate (note that battery life depends on time, even without use)
I found a small application, very cool, which is PowerTutor, which gives us interesting information from the battery usage. However'm with JuiceDefender Ultimate (free version exists). The only application which effectively spare battery was Greenpower. [all in gplay]
I hope I helped
new battery
Hi, new battery from ebay , now lasts a day under normal use and a day and a half with little use of the internet.
Not bad for the low price
Seems that lastmyth that is not worse than the others in the use of battery.

This is usually the fix. It's amazing how fast some batteries start failing. Old batteries and cold temperatures are usually the top cause of poor battery life, especially in secondhand phones.
Try Juice Defender
