The Android market got updated to version 3.1.6. You can download the apk here.
For those who use AOSP Roms like CyanogenMod 7, try flashing the new google apps, if this didn't work out well for you.
Noticeable Changes:
* New UI For Tablets
* Faster / Fixed Download bug
The normal installation didn't work out well on this release. So had to do it manually.
Follow these procedures :
1. Download the apk file to your sd card.
2. Now using Root explorer, go to /system/app
3. Now mount r/w & Rename Vending.apk to Vending.apk1
4. Copy the downloaded file to /system/app
5. Rename it to Vending.apk
6. Now press & hold the app and select Permissions
7. Select only the options given below. Now reboot & enjoy.....

Seemed to work fine for me too! Thanks for the post!
From a reputable android site:
"Also, many folks seeing this are looking for solutions and coming across a version 3.1.6 of the Android Market to download install … only it doesn’t look like it is a real release. According to a Twitter post, there are significant differences in the ‘signing’ of the file, making it suspicious and not a good choice to download."
I'd hold back guys...
can anyone post screenshots or does it look the same ?

Just installed Swype on the NOOK. Man this keyboard rocks.
You need a rooted device to install the Swype apk into the /system/app directory.
Run the app from there then select the Swype keyboard from the keyboard selection option in settings.
Works like a charm.
Nookcolor, after Auto-Nooter 3.0.0 (1.1 only)
Would you be willing to post the apk or email it to me?
I don't think you can post links to download the Swype apk. PMs are okay though.
Oh and... can you add me to the PM list?
EDIT: Whoops, spoke too soon. Thanks!
Follow the link above. It's direct from Swype as they are in open beta. " LEGAL"
When I try to install it, it tells me it's not supported on my device.

You've got to use the version from the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Doing this requires changes to the build.prop to match the Tab's settings. After rebooting and installing the Swype.apk and libSwypeCore.so it works great!

I'm signed up for the Beta, but it's a no-go for the install. Should I be making changes to the build.prop? I've only seen people's ENTIRE build.prop posted, but would rather just change what's needed (when I used another build.prop, it stopped booting).
What are you running for your ROM? 2.1, 2.2, 2.3? I'm currently running Nightly 8 of CM7. Would LOVE to get Swype running, but I'm getting the "Screen size not supported" error.
I confirm that this works on the customized 0.6.8 Froyo. I just installed the apk like i would normally with no modifications or anything like that. Thank you OP.

This should be implemented into EVERY single rom we have.

This should be included in every ROM.. why would it NOT be?
Thanks for this! I was just trying out CM7 yesterday and I noticed this right away. I assumed it was a gingerbread or CM thing. I also agree: every rom should have this!
Doesn't seem to work on HeroTab X5A android 2.1
Installed per instructions and restarted tablet. Does not show up when I choose to add widgets. did I miss something?
I should be more clear in what I tried....I copied the AppWidgetPicker-1.2.3.apk to the /system/app folder. I then restarted my tablet. But when I long press on the screen and am presented with Widget option the only widget that is shown is the Google Search widget.
Double checked the file permissions ont AppWidgetPicker.apk. Apparently it did not have the correct permissions r-w-x. I incorrectly assumed that copying the file to the /system/app folder it would inherit the correct permissions.
Anyway, working great now.
Nice

try this if ur on stock or froyo builts
1)Backup ur vending.apk
2)Use root explorer mount system as r/w and move the downloaded vending-1.apk and give permissions as rw-r--r-- also delete your original vending.apk
3)reboot
I havent tested it as i'm running SonyBreadv4, can anybody confirm if the above tweak works?

Work in Froyo CM6.1 by slade87.
Thank.
Ok, this is cool but how do we update apps? In the new Market, I click 'menu' -> 'my apps". When an app is available for update, it lists it. However when I click the app, I only see buttons for 'open' and 'uninstall'.
So how do we update our apps? This is not intuitive... (btw, i'm running cm7)
----
Edit: Looks like Google has since fixed this
Also comes with a new widget that shows and scrolls the show cased apps.
Just needs some tuning in the colors used and it's great
In CyanoComb 1.3 is working fine
Tryed like 5 times give up not working for me on cm6.1
im running cyanocomb 1.3 i cant install it

Download Android Market 3.3.12 here
If normal installation didn't work out well for you, use the method below.
Procedure to install via Root Explorer Method
1. Download the apk file from the above link to your sd card.
2. Now using Root explorer, go to /system/app
3. Mount the system to r/w.
4. Now search for Vending.apk & rename it to Vending.apk1
5. Copy the file you just downloded to /system/app & rename it to Vending.apk
6. Now press & hold the app and select Permissions
7. Select only the options given below. Now REBOOT & enjoy.....
I tried to install, but in the end says: This aplication is not installed.
Gingerbread users in my country got problem when installing.
You have to copy it to system/app change name to vending.apk set system permissions, and then restart.
Works fine, its smoother then the least update.
