Template for testing ROMs v1.0 - HTC EVO 3D

ANDROID ROM TEST v1.0 Evo 3D
**************************************
The purpose of this is to create a cut and dry template to develope, test, and troubleshoot ROMs. This provides the users and developers the ability to test key functions of their phone to verify functionality and stability of functions (small and large) based on an organized series of tests. When I have some time, I will also go through it and add notes to help troubleshoot issues (based on my own experience and other's) so the user can (hopefully) solve a problem on their own and learn along the way. I'll also do the best I can do discuss why a given problem occurs (this is also where the rest of you can provide very useful information as well).
**NOTE********************************
There are more little odd-end tests that I run on the ROMs I install on my phone. But this is a basic breakdown. When a ROM passes all of these tests, I conclude to myself that it is extremely stable and I can rely completely on it to work 100% of the time. I will update this more tomorrow. It's late and I have to work in 4 hours lol. Feel free to distribute this or use it, modify it, add to it, however you feel. Dev's are more than welcome to use this and add to it. As I add more, and all of you add more, I want this to become a very in depth, micro-analysis/test
template for our ROMs. Eventually, and as we develope this more, we can use it as a very accurate check-list to determine complete and total stability of a ROM. I tried to organize it as best I could based on what functions should be tested and in what order (first to last) based on priority and logic. Please give your input.
**********************************************************************************************************
I have attached a .txt file to this post so you can download this write-up, change it, modify it to your liking, add things to it that you think are better... whatever you do with it, if you have something you have added that could benefit everybody else all I ask is to please share the useful information
Let's begin...
ANTENNAS AND PERMISSIONS (ROOT)
-verify 3G and 4G antennas are functional and transmitting data properly. Browse internet on both 3G and 4G. Sync your accounts, verify contacts, access market, and download an application on both 3G and 4G settings.Download app that requires root access. Download cache cleaner NG, and My backup root (if not included in your rom). You will need both of these later to test other functions.
*****note, sometimes general issues occur with apps, and accounts, and you are not able to sync them for unknown reasons. Double check passwords, and if that does not work, boot to recovery and do a factory reset or flash a .zip to format your data. This has worked for me several times when encountering these types of errors. This is sometimes applicable to applications in general but be cautious of what apps/programs you decide to wipe data from.
-verify root access. Open cache cleaner and my backup root. You should be prompted to allow super user permissions. Afterwards, open up super-user application and verify events are being logged, and that apps are indeed being saved as being "allowed" permissions.
*****note that sometimes problems can occur with your system permissions and how your system is mounted. If you are being denied access to root, try powering down the phone, booting to recovery and navigating to and selecting "FIX PERMISSIONS" then boot back up. This usually works for me and most others.
-verify phone can make calls, receive calls, and call voicemail with no issues. To do a basic check of system stability, turn screen off and on manually by hitting the power button while in a phone call.
-Browse around settings, apps, and perform basica multi-tasking functions to ensure phone stability during a call.
-Verify both callers can hear each other.
-Verify volume rocker adjusts in-call volume appropriately.
-Verify speaker phone is operating properly.
-Verify proximity sensors are working in phone call (screen shuts off with an object in front of the sensor [located at the top of the phone near ear speaker])
-Verify GPS and network location antennas are working by enabling them and opening google maps. Verify accurate location and compass direction.
-Verify wifi is working and stable by connecting to a home-based internet connection and browsing the web.
-Verify bluetooth is fucntional and stable by connecting to a bluetooth device.
-Verify "update profile" is functional under settings>system updates **do not update anything else***
-Verify wifi hot spot is functional
SMS, MMS
-verify phone can receive and send text messages and multimedia messages. Send both group and individual messages. Perform these tasks while in a phone call (note that MMS messages will only be allowed from 4G if you are in a phone call as 3G gets disabled).
-Verify MMS function has no issues sending various types of media such as sound clips, recordings, videos, and pictures. Verify camera works properly from the SMS/MMS application.
-Verify keyboard is working properly and accurately. If keyboard seems to be inaccurate, try navigating to settings>langauge and keyboard>touch input>text input and calibrate the keyboard. Also, try disabling vibrate while typing to have a little bit smoother operation if you have quick thumbs
CAMERA
-verify camera has no issues capturing various types of media such as pictures and video recordings.
-Verify the resolution selected for said recordings is the one recorded by navigating to SD card via a file explorer (Root Explorer, ES File Explorer, etc.) and checking properties of recorded media.
-Verify sound is working on selected media where sound is applicable.
-Verify indicated special features of camera (as indicated by your ROM dev) are functioning as they should.
-Verify the 3D function is working properly and that media is appearing in 3D when viewed.
MEDIA
-verify all downloaded/installed media is functioning properly and being utilized by the system properly by moving various apps back and forth from SD card with no errors.
-Verify drivers are being detected by computer (sometimes if errors are found here, you can fix it by simply disconnecting phone and reconnecting or by restarting the computer).
-Verify external storage (SD card) is being detected by the system in settings. Verify phone can properly mount to a computer as storage and charge only.
-Verify pictures can be viewed by gallery application and "x" file explorer with no errors.
-Verify native screenshot function is functional and that such media is viewable via SMS, gallery, and "x" file explorer.
-Verify youtube, FB, and all other media applications (where applicable to you) are allowing media uploads directly from your device.
SOUND
-verify sound is working throughout the device. Check notifications (Gmail, SMS, MMS), media sound, incoming phone calls, and most importantly your alarms. Set multiple alarms for various times throughout the day, with different types of ringones such as a music file, a stock ringtone, and downloaded ringtone.
-Verify volume rocker adjusts volume properly for phone volume and media volume.
-Verify different types of media are playing through speakers and through headphone output. Check MP3's, games, videos, and web-based media such as youtube with this criteria.
-Verify haptic feedback is functional and vibrate mode is also functional.
BASIC ANDROID SYSTEM FUNCTIONALITY
-Verify the following functions are working:
*blinking LED's for notifications
*auto rotation
*auto brightness/manual brightness settings
*long press home button (this should bring up your recently used apps. This function can be performed at any time, on any screen, regardless of what app or task you are performing.)
*long press search button (this should bring up your voice recognition)
*from home screen, tap search button (this should bring up google search. You can search internet or installed applications from this function.)
*camera hard button
HEAVY MULTI-TASKING (these are just some I like to do)
-while in a phone call, open up my backup root and perform a full data backup, and a full applications backup. After initializing backup, connect to 4G and browse around the web. Periodically check status of backup by long pressing the soft home key on your phone and selecting my backup root. When it is
finished, open up root explorer, or another capable file manager, and extract (decomress) a .zip file. I like to use ROM.zips for this as they tax the system pretty hard for resources. After that finishes, send an email with a video attached to it. While all of these are happening, engage in a SMS conversation. Eat it iPhone.
SYSTEM LONGEVITY AND SELF MANAGEMENT
-Run phone for a week without shutting it off or powering it off and with no reboots.
That's it for now. Off to bed. Let's get as much information in here as possible. Tomorrow I will include various problems I have encountered when flashing ROMs, kernels, etc., and how to troubleshoot such issues.
Nighty folks.

well, it seemed like a good idea at the time. lolz

Cool, ill look into this more when i get off work.

good intentions bud but not the root of many probs on the rom front are from users NOT flashing properly and having other stuff mess up the base rom they installed.
I'd put a big note at the very top to tell people when they flash a new rom to do a FULL WIPE DATA and everything else, then flash the rom.
Once this is done restore NOTHING from TB or anything like that as it can sometimes cause problems. THEN just use the phone as normal and put it through the motions to see if everything is good to go.
Too many times people do not do a full wipe and have issues OR they restore something from TB or MyBackupPro, that causes issues.
Also along the lines of battery life i am an avid user of SystemPanelPro in the market. I strongly suggest installing that and turning monitoring on as that will give you the best detail about your battery life and also makes it 100000x easier to see when a rogue app is killing your battery as opposed to it being the rom/kernel itself.

You can add StabilityTest app as way to ensure the phone is stable if OC or UV.

Good ideas...
and yes, it was merely an idea. i have had something similar to this written up for a long time. i use it to test roms.
and i thought about that but figured putting a header at the top is useless because people don't freaking listen. lol
"oooohhh waaahhhh i dont want to wipe my data"... it's just laziness. then those same people come back crying about some rogue issue they have that nobody else has. hahaha

with that thinking then the thread you posted is pointless as well. lol

This thread has potential. I like what it could be developed into.

Yes that's kinda the idea I had in mind. I will work on it more tonight. If we can develope it into something extremely thorough we could sticky this and have a very solid platform for testing troubleshooting/roms
bastardized rom. it's fast. get some.

Not dissing your idea our intentions in any way, but I think that most of what you posted is just basic use of the phone that everyone already does anyway... maybe even on a daily basis . Well, except for doing a backup, browsing the internet, and sending a text while in a phone call. I also agree with starting the thread by saying that you should do a fill wipe (cache, dalvik, and factory reset) before flashing ANY rom even if it is a update/newer version of the current rom you are using. Also, all of these tests should be done before syncing or restoring ANY thing (except for the tests that are actually testing the sync and restore functions obviously). As stated before, most issues do come from the user either not wiping correctly or from restoring something they shouldn't be. Plus, thanks to our amazing devs, just about every rom in this section is pretty solid except for the AOSP betas...
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium

working on this now, due to a few people i have seen post about their alarms not working in the morning.
stanglife, i understand your point, however, sometimes it is hard to remember to test EVERYthing vital as a user. my goal here is to prevent people from having the "oops this doesn't work, now i am late to work" scenario happen to them.
i strongly feel that once this is fine tuned and dialed in for every key function of the phone, it should be stickied in the development section so it is more accessible to people just passing through. dev's work hard, but sometimes one user will experience a glitch that NOBODY else has, just a fluke... and performing tests like this will help people get a solid idea of how reliable THEIR phone is before they decide to use it.

[Q] Help Me Save my MoPho - Temp Switched BACK to my Evo4g

I really don't have uber high demands for my phones, I just expect them to work and fill my what I believe to be simple needs. I'm hoping that I can list some of my issues and possibly get some positive feedback to help weed through issues, not only for me but for other users. I know this phone has a lot of passionate followers, I can definitely say, I'm not one of them.
I don't mind rooting at all, but cannot lose 4g capabilities. I know I've seen some locked OSs, any suggestions would be appreciated. I also bought this phone based on my ideals behind Tegra and the SIM slot as I'll be doing some world travel within the next few months. Now to some issues I've had...
Default Music player - efing sucks. If there isn't a good 30secs of lag loading media from the external SD card, the damn thing crashes after 3-4 songs. I fully understand that rooting will get through this issue with a different (hopefully android default) media player. But I'm struggling to find why this is an issue outside of poor development. Have about 8GB worth of music on either a 16gb or 32gb SD card. Wipe Dvcache and NO PROBLEMS with same memory card.
Camera - Can't shut off shutter sound? What the hell were Motorola software techs thinking? Yes the camera is very good, but what the fizzle? I ironically heavily considered this phone over the GS2 because of the dedicated camera button. Only to be frustrated thanks to the inability to take ninja photos.
Multi-Touch - I had issues with multi point touching. Multidev gave some direction here, which if I root my phone later today, I'll definitely go in this direction.
BT Media Stream - Specifically with the Sync in Ford vehicles. I've used it in both a 2011 Focus (sync 3.0) and my 2011 Mustang (sync 2.0) and repeated the same issue detailed in this thread. Completely drives me up the wall, as I have not had this issue with any of the roms I ran previously on my Evo4g. Everything else works well with Sync, including making and receiving calls and text/email notification.
I'm sure there's been a few more issues that I've had slip my mind. But, I guess I'm really just hoping that I can use the benefits of this phone without continuing to 'deal with' the shortcomings of owning a handset that isn't going to sell 500k units and get the kind of manufacturer and homebrew software support of a phone that has sold 500k units.
Thanks
i use google music app, not the moto one and i love it.. ive had NO issues with it what so ever.. and it is THE default android player
camera is annoying but you are required to be rooted to remove it.. dunno if anyone has or not tho. any third party app should still work with the button etc etc
as for bluetooth.. no idea again may be solved by removing the current music app and putting googlemusic on there (use titanium backup to remove the moto music player )
Thanks for the response Shabby.
So either way, I'd be better off rooting and removing the music player and camera apps?
I guess the only other thing I'm looking for in a rom is just general speed. The phone flys when it comes to opening programs and program performance, but the general speed of menu access and transitioning from one base mode to the next leaves a lot to be desired. Just getting in and out of text messages takes just too damn long.
First of all, the Photon is a great phone, when it works properly.
I have had wayyy more issues than you with it, and trust me, sometime I just completely hate the F&@^(*$ Mother [email protected]%[email protected] This phone can be a dumb @$$ son of a B!^@%. When it works it is awesome.
I have been through about 5 replacement Photon's and need to replace it again after the holidays, (Motorola has finally fixed the problem with it officially, YAY!) Now, you shouldn't be complaining compared to what I have been through.
But, I understand where you are comming from.
I have not had a stable music player, other than Rhapsody, that didn't crash or force close on me, including, Music, Google Music, Honeycomb Music, & Player Pro.
I personally hate the Rhapsody interface and I am forced to deal with it.
Camera Shutter Issue,
Root Required - Download Root Explorer via Market or find other means of getting it. PM me if you want to know how you can get it in other ways.
Go to
System/media/audio/ui in Root Explorer.
First copy and save to it to sd first incase you want it back cause delete is permanent.
Set system to rw then delete
Delete camera sound ogg.
Then you are all set. Or don't root and use the following application: https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/443424#443424
(Sorry, the Motorola forums are currently down, they hope to get back up by the end of this week.) But, check later on this or next week. (NOW YOU CAN TAKE NINJA PHOTOS) But remember, there is not current way to disable the auto focus double beep, if someone finds a way, please comment below, and I may edit this post.
Bluetooth car issue, you should experiment with different Music Player applications.
Hope I've helped! Be sure to click the "Thanks" button if I did, it lets other users know that I am helpful.
MultiTouch - follow the directions that you posted

There's another way to disable the camera sound on the phone here: Enable sound settings in stock camera app - root required
Also, what's the problem with the phone that they're finally fixing?
I wasn't aware of the Multi touch problem, and I have ran into my touch screen locking problem yesterday while playing Mario Kart 64 yesterday.
I backed up my touch screen folder, and replaced it with the 8 multi touch files.
That is a deal breaker, but I'm glad to have the solution.
Edit: I tried Mario Kart again, but the touch screen continues to lock up after holding down "A" for a bit (to accelerate). Did Motorola lock how long you can press down on the screen?
Yes, I tried the multi touch app and they register all 8 touches.

[App] SwitchMe needs some Prime testers

Hi everyone. Im one of the developers of SwitchMe, and app that allows multiple secure logins into separate installations of android on a single device. The pr is after the break.
I really need a few people to check into some issues people on the original galaxy s have been experiencing. There are some warnings involved:
- testers must perform a full nandroid backup before using the app, it is not our responsibility if you start getting boot loops
- if you report results or bugs, please use the "Write to us" function in the app whenever possible, and always describe the issue in the header of the logs you send
- if you post here, bes sure to include your device type and rom
- if you have apps installed on sd, be sure to mention that as well
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple installations of Android just as you would on a desktop computer.
The technology behind SwitchMe saves all of your applications and data, protects it and stores it as a file in memory. You can then log out of an
account and log into a fresh installation of Android or another account with its own unique content.
You may create as many profiles as the memory is capable of holding. Some of these may require very little free memory because they contain few apps,
others will be larger as they contain many applications and lots of cache and data.
Why is this functionality useful?
Privacy - the most obvious benefit is that you can securely share one device among multiple users, which gives you privacy and peace of mind.
Testing - if you are a developer, you can use profiles as clean sandboxes to test your applications and their interaction with the system.
Gaming – with multiple installations of Android on a single device, you can now play online MMOs as different characters.
Speed - the games your kids play slow down your tablet, but with SwitchMe you can easily create profiles without games or instant messengers.
Battery life - when the battery is low but there are important emails or documents to edit later, switch to a profile which only contains these essentials.
These of course are only suggestions - there are plenty of other uses for the functionality SwitchMe offers.

You had me all the way up to "testers must perform a full nandroid backup before using the app, it is not our responsibility if you start getting boot loops". That's when you lost me.
Hi,
I'm using the app for some days. First version works fine but I was not able to generate a cloned profile, the new profile was always empty. Next version was able to generate cloned profiles, but after installation of the update I was stucked in my second profile because the switch button don't work any longer. Todays update fixed these error.
I have a Prime 32 GB with dock, ICS 4.0.3 and I love this app. Now I can share my tablet with my wive without having trouble with emails and highscores.

I am a little nervous not having nandroid backup!

Sorry guys, i spent my cash on a 7.7 instead so there isnt a Prime in the office yet and i wasnt aware that you had no fully working recovery.
In any case, Titanium and the stock recovery should be just fine in terms of fixing the device if you have any issues!
No issues here for 3 days.
I get the pro version
Let me know if you have any issues please!
Just finished my backup with titanium, I just hope you are right with the stock recovery in case of problem! I will post comment soon!

Good news
I just bought the app, because this is a feature requested in android since a long time and I think this is a really good start and I want you to still improve the app! Like switching without reboot or have a lockscreen with the possibility to switch profile
It's just bad that the average people can't use it because it require root, but I understand you have to follow Android limitation... Anyway, you did a good job!
Here's my test so far:
Clone current profile => Woking ( takes a while but I had a lot of apps )
Create new profile => Working
Fast Switching => Working
Problems or questions:
- Bubbleator "live wallpaper" seems to crash after a "profile switch" but to be honest it can crash by itself easy... lol
- Is it normal I can Access pictures/video folders of other profile ? ( if it is, that could be great to have an option to "lock" a folder so only the "owner" will be able to access the files )
- The "Asus" apps installed by default like SuperNote or mylibrary (ebook reader) seems to have access to notes or books stored in other profile ( again maybe this is normal )
I don't understand how the space usage is displayed..In one of my new blank profile there's 53.29mb available for apps same for data and same for Dalvik and it's filled at 84%. In another new blank account it's 246.54mb available for every categories.. So why the space allocated to each profile is different and when/how this is determined ? Is it fixed ?
That's pretty it, thanks for this good work! And thanks in advance for your answer!
Is there anything else to test ?
Problems with games
Hello,
I haven't try games in my previous test. After few profile switchover I can't play all fullscreen games.
I got problems with:
Tinytower (not tablet optimised), Zen pinball, Shine runner, they all crash at sometimes during the loading, 2-3 seconds after the program start or during game play. I can't say if it's the game itself having problem, but I can tell you tinytower as never crashed on my device before and I have played Zen pinball 2-3 times and it was ok.
Example of game that still work: mx moto, Angry Birds, Tank Riders, Air Attack HD, SiegeCraft THD. So far I haven't got any problems with normal apps other than games...
Most of the games seems to run ok... I don't understand why few of them are crashing.
Does SwitchMe will use more "ram" for other profile or it just don't have a footprint at all once you switch and "reboot" ?
Fullscreen games? Maybe you have them on the SD in some broken ways? For me every game works just fine.
Galaxy Tab 8.9, KANG
Yeah forget about the fullscreen.. lol it's just my bad english. I tried to reboot the device and the games worked again. It appear to happend when I do several consecutive profile switch. I will try to reproduce tonight and let you know if this happen again. The games wasn't on the sd because I have no "external storage" on my tablet.
I have been using the paid SwitchMe for a week or so now and have 3 profiles. One for my wife and me along with a "guest" account, so far its been great, I would, however, like to have an icon or section that would show the memory taken per user. That would be killer for me to see it visually at a glance like that.
My one question with the app as is I get toast notifications granting the app superuser access from time to time long after booting. It's the only app I have that does that. Not a problem at all, just curious about it.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
Works great here
Hello,
Succesfully rooted and created 3 profiles with switchme.
Everything works smoothly, from clone to fresh profile.
Fast switching works great, no problem so far...
One question though: I though there was a widget to switch profile... I need to go to the app (through notification's bar shortcut) to switch profile. Anything like that planned?

1.2.2 - HOTFIX 2
Reworked widget on qHD+ displays
Fixed widget text on HC and ICS
Fast switch improved on older devices
Getting ready to wipe from SHOStock 1.9.1 and flash to 1.9.2 with the newest Siyah, ICS theme, and init.doh. I'll give this a shot and let you know how it goes.
ok, did some more switching last night after the two updates.
i can swap over to the secondary profile alright, problem is i cant get the wifi to work. i can go into settings and turn on wifi, then the phone will scan for a bit and then turn the wifi off automatically. this does not happen with the main profile.
dont know if its just something with my phone or something due to the app.

Its not the app - wifi settings are individual to every profile.

i tried a few more time. its only when i switch from the primary to secondary profile. i go into settings, turn on wifi. wifi turns on, it scans for a bit, then turns off on its own. i dont know, tried rebooting, wiping cache and dalvik, but that did nothing.
wifi works just fine on my primary profile. its strange, dont know whats causing it.

ok, that did the trick. swapped profiles, then rebooted and the wifi stays on and connects.
then swapped back (which for some reason takes longer to swap to the main profile, probably due to many more apps loaded on it). after i was into the main profile, no all my settings were correct. a reboot and everything was back to normal.
so, what happens for me, swap profile, then reboot to have it the way you want it.
i tried several times and each time was the same. for instance, when i swap back to my main profile, the soft key lights and haptic feedback are turned off. reboot and its back.
Please send some logs via the app after reproducing this issue. Be sure to mention your xda name in the description!

There is a similar issue with volume on the atrix, i think they are related...
sent the log date just a bit ago. i'll keep messing with it and let you know.
Thanks we will look into it monday

I recently installed HellRaised ROM, specifically this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1502426
And after creating a new profile and switch to it, my phone went into the bootloop. I saw this happened once with MIUI when I created a profile then updated kernel/ROM and the simple solution was to wipe cache and dalvik, but that method didn't work. I reflashed my ROM without wipe but still didn't help, as expected. I ended up formatting system and data partitions to recovery my phone to working state.
I don't have any log to share, but just letting you know. It will be interesting to see if anyone using hellraised ROM tries this app and see if they see the same behavior.

[Q] Long delay in dialed calls

I've been struggling with a problem with my Samsung Fascinate for several months now.
I've tried a number of ROMs, kernels and even going back to stock without any success.
My problem is a severe delay when placing a call. Whether I select a call from my contacts, my favorites or manually dial a call, there is a delay before the call goes through.
Sometimes it's 30 seconds, sometimes 1-2 minutes.
Anyone else out there have this problem or have any suggestions.
As noted above, I've tried a variety of ROM's and kernels. Currently running TSM with KGB kernel.
Often times, the problem appears to diminish after installing a new ROM but after a couple of weeks, it returns.
I've uninstalled alternate dialers that I've tried but still am perplexed...
Help !
Exactly when does the delay happen? Is it when you hit enter on the dial-pad but before it goes to the call screen, or is it after it goes to the call screen but before you hear a dial tone?
After I hit enter....the call screen doesn't appear for some time
Did you try upgrading your radio/modem? Instructions in Droidstyle's guide.
I've upgraded to EHO3 some time ago....is their a newer radio modem to try?

You should download logcat app from the market. Run the app, then press home, attempt to dial like normal. Call voicemail or something. Then pause the log and read through to see what its doing or saying during this long delay.

There is not a newer one per se, but people have created better ones on their own.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I've attached a file that contains device information and a logcat file.
Appreciate any insight you or others can offer.
You have a lot of low memory conditions. That probably doesn't help.
You notice the log repeats a lot of stuff making request, crashing activities, then low memory and it repeats.
Do you have some type of audio manager? Or audio policy manager?
I would suggest uninstall unnecessary apps to help isolate the problem.
Group on and awesome player make your phone do a lot of work from looking at this log alone. And yahoo mail. Those might not be direct causes but it looks like your phone is processing constantly and dumping apps to get memory back.

I noticed the "Awesome Media Player" entries and was puzzled a bit...I don't use the phone for music and don't see that program listed in my applications or with Titanium Backup. Do you know which program uses AMP, perhaps as a service
I've frozen a number of apps that appear to refer to music or media.
Is there a program you can suggest that shows which apps are most active on my phone...perhaps there are other hidden apps that are using more memory than they are worth
Any you would suggest?
A good indicator could be to look at your battery stats and see what's causing drain. There are probably other tech apps that can tell you. It's also possible you have spyware. Get ome of the spyware/antivirus apps from the market and do a scan. If nothing turns up remove groupon or freeze it. Do you facebook? There was a lot of entries for that. If you do, adjust settings if possible for the frequency of checking for updates.
I use a terminal emulator and run the top command for the top processes running on the phone. That can help.
Also, even though you froze an app there could be an old cached process still. Go to apps in settings and see the cached processes and stop them.
What rom are you currently on? There are memory settings to set the minimum ram free. I use 100mb on the aokp rom.
Task killers aren't recommended for ics but as a test you could use one, run it, hen try to dial your call. If it works better then apps may be the problem. If it doesn't then you may need to do a clean wipe/data factory reset/wipe cache.
Same problem here
" I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM""""
especially the second call right after i finish a call.
sometimes it's actually funny, i dial and i wait for the phone to make the call, i get a call, and after i finish it, THEN my phone makes the call i wanted.
it happens even right after i fully format my phone or reset.

Galaxy K Zoom tips&tricks thread.

for now there's no dedicated Kzoom forum so this will have to do.
I'd like to start a thread where we can discuss ways we can get the most out of our rootless camera phones.
the discussed tips and tricks are for the Galaxy K Zoom, but some can be usable on other devices too.
[Memory card madness] applies to all kitkat devices with memory cards but no root.
kitkat has severely limited the micro SD access we have on our phones, our phone even blocks all workarounds.
here are some tricks to make it usable:
I recommend using FX file explorer with pro plugin, and Samsung's "my files" app to manage files.
set "my files" to show hidden files, and delete the .nomedia file in /Android/data/ on your memory card
in FX create a new .nomedia file in /Android/data/nextapp.fx/files on your sdcard which you can copy to data folders if you ever find game resources in your gallery app, or app/game sounds among your music.(you need to use "my files" to copy it)
now create a new folder on your sdcard /Android/data/nextapp.fx/SDfiles and create a bookmark/shortcut to this in both file managers, this will be your personal folder which you can use for movies, music, wallpapers, etc.
if there are any images, videos, or music files that don't show up in the media apps you can use the rescan media button on this folder in FX.
in "my files" you should also bookmark /Android/data so you can easily find sdcard folders specific apps have access to.
if you want to sync or edit files with an app you'll need to go through a few steps.
use the apps view in FX to find the internal name of the app that needs access to the file/folder, this is usually something like this: com.developername.appname
use "my files" to locate(or if necessary, create) a folder with that name on your sdcard at /Android/data
now use "my files" to move any files you need to access with the app to that folder, and tell the app to look there for files.(this is not needed if the app uses the media database)
using this method I got dropsync to sync my music to my memorycard, and let gameboid run and save gba games on my memorycard.
edit: a little warning, if you move an app to the sdcard it no longer has access to it's own sdcard data folder anymore.
[tripod? nopod!] applies to all phones(except S4 zoom)
you may have noticed the Kzoom has a very sleek design for a camera phone.
this is nice for a phone, but leaves little space for a tripod mount.
luckily there's a universal solution: smartphone tripod mounts.
several sites, sell carkit-like phone holders that have a tripod mount.
using one of these you can still use a tripod with your Kzoom, although most of these holders will block the flash or part of the screen.
I use the iStabilizer Mount XL.
it's a perfect fit, and it's open at the center so you can still make use of the flash.
[screen on, screen off] applies to all samsung phones
samsung makes a lot of assumptions.
like "if you plug something in, you must want the screen on"
but you shouldn't just assume.
if I plug in my headset i'll use my pebble or headset button to start the music, and I don't want to pull my phone out of my pocket for this.
using tasker I created a set of profiles that let you disable several automatic wakes.
unfortunately I can't prevent the wake, but these profiles will put your phone asleep the moment the screen turns on without your consent.
the profiles include:
Autowake blocker core - the part that does the blocking, don't disable this unless you want to disable the entire Autowake blocker.
Autowake Headset - when enabled, this will prevent your phone from waking up when you plug in a headset. great for when you use a headset with buttons to listen to music a lot.
Autowake Battery full - when enabled, this will prevent the "battery full, unplug to save electricity" notification from waking your phone in the middle of the night.
Autowake power plugin - when enabled, this will prevent your phone from automatically waking up when you plug it into the charger or any other power source.
Autowake power unplug - when enabled, this will prevent your phone from automatically waking up when you pull out the USB cable.
{Download}
open this file with tasker to import it.
[what did you say? hearing aid? i don't need a hearing aid!] applies to certain recent samsung devices
this is an easily missed feature, but the Kzoom can help you test your hearing, and compensate for any hearing loss you're suffering from, just like a hearing aid would.
even if your hearing is considered good, it can still compensate for minor differences between your ears.
this feature can be activated through settings>call>personalize call sound>adapt sound
when you first visit this settings page it will guide you through a thorough "beep" hearing test to determine for each ear which frequencies you can and can't hear, and once done it will use this information to set up a 2nd equalizer that will correct music and phone-call sound for your ears.
this equalizer will be used when listening to music with a headset, and when making a phone-call with and without a headset.
you can use this together with samsung's "soundalive" equalizer, so there's no reason not to use it.
[what others have to say]
Root through Odin, provided by timduru
timduru has a solution for memory card madness that works much better, but requires root.
quickly wake to camera, found by dk206
apprentice teaching the master, he would like to point out some customization options samsung added for the settings screen.
i'd like to add to this that you can also bookmark some frequently used settings, which adds them to a new category at the top of your settings list.
if you have any tips for other Kzoom owners you can post them below and i'll add a link to them here.

Yeah definitely not a good move.
To fix that you need to edit the /etc/permissions/platform.xml file and add external card writing permission to the media_rw group.
That way all apps can write anywhere to it.
or just replace it with this one:
http://downloads.timduru.org/android/kzoom/misc/platform.xml
then reboot.
Instant Camera access from Lock state
Hi Guys
Pressing the vol+ up and Camera key together wakes the phone up into camera mode.
This works even with screen lock protection on.
Thanks
Denny
Tabbed Settings
Not specific to the K Zoom as it was introduced on the Galaxy S5, but I read a lot of people complaining about the new device settings screen layout. Not a lot of people seem to realise that you can change how the settings screen looks and revert back to the tabbed screen we are so used to with Samsung devices:
On the device settings screen, tap the "3-Dot Menu" button and choose "View By"
.

In my K Zoom it seems to be more of an hit and trial affair. Sometimes it works and other times it won't!
you need to press the camera and volume buttons at the exact same time.
it works best if you press the camera button halfway first, otherwise it's difficult to get the timing right.
updated my 1st post a bit.
the battery full autowake blocking works reliably, so i removed the "untested" warning.
i updated the tripod story a bit, i switched to a much better tripod mount called the "istabilizer mount xl"
a mount made specifically for the k zoom would've been better, but this is the best universal solution i could find.
i updated the root link so it now points to timduru's thread.
and i added a link apprentice's post.
Help
Hi, I rooted my K Zoom recently and couldn't use screen mirroring now. can anyone find a fix for it?
No screen mirroring for rooted Samsung Phones.
screen mirroring can work on rooted devices, but it's very unreliable.
here's a possible workaround:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50597640
I haven't tested it yet because my k zoom isn't rooted.
Skype & Torch
Has anyone got skype video working on the Samsung galaxy K zoom?
Also has anyone got a Torch app that works on the Samasung Galaxy K Zoom?
Last! Why isn't there a dedicated Device section for the Galaxy K zoom on the site?
any torch app that has a white-screen mode will work.
flash torch apps can't work because the k zoom has a xenon flash, which can only flash.

I use Screen Light, it is simple and fast.
Skype
What about skype? Has anyone successfully had a video call on skype?
Remote View finder
As in control your k zoom camera with another device. i tried with a note 10.1 running 4.4.2.
Enable remote viewfinder on k zoom camera settings. On the note i went into wifi, and clicked wifi-direct.
K zoom says note 10.1 wants to connect which you allow and then it launches the viewfinder on the note screen. Simple as that.
focus, zoom and flash works. Its quite responsive ie lag is low and i walked 30 feet away and it still held the connection.
Only downside is remote viewfinder on k zoom only works in auto and no other mode
I don't know whether team viewer will get around this or not.
Skype
Thanks for the replies.
Managed to get skype working on the phone (local video) the problem was with receiving the caller's video. It's a bit hit and miss.
Overall a great phone.
Having a problem now with grey bars appearing on photos - presuming it's the Samsung SD card which is 64 GB. Is it generally agreed to stick with a max of 32 GB?
Does anyone have to try "Manual Focus" on K-Zoom?

a little review on Extended Battery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-camera/general/galaxy-k-zoom-extended-battery-t2858029
Hi guys.. So i have got this new phone.. the k zoom... (3G version) its model no. is SM-C111. i have rooted it successfully. now there are some things in this awesome phone which are annoying. like there is no notification led. So can anyone port the BLN MOD for this device so that we can have backlight notification like the galaxy s1. And please make a separate section for galaxy k zoom. please help @timduru @thedicemaster
With the help of fundamental @Albe95 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=5403589 ). I was able to enable the multi-window of GalaxyS5 on Galaxy K Zoom.
In this zip https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/843622/multiwindow%20k%20zoom.zip there are the necessary files, placed in the correct folders. You just have to copy them and give their permission (644).
When you restart in the settings will be released on command to enable the multi-window.
Obviously need the root, the file is not flash from recovery.
In case of damage I take responsibility, pay attention.
