Hello All,
I used to have an iPhone 3G, where my voicemail was easily available via the dialer. I have not checked my voicemail since I've bought my Atrix 4G (which has been over a month). I'm not sure if rooting, and theming may have screwed up my settings or not, but I attempt to access my VM and it asks me for a mailbox #. WTF?!? I never EVER recall setting up one, as far as I know it was just there and tied to my phone. I was able to access my VM by calling my phone number from my cell, but now I attempt to do that and I get a busy signal.
A tad frustrated, so sorry for the crazy rant above. Has anyone else experienced the same/similar situation? And if so, is there a way to fix it? I don't want to result in calling Customer Service/Tech Support for ATT until I've attempted to troubleshoot things here, since they will probably ask me "have you done anything to your phone" and I'll have to be like, "Yes, I attempted and succeeded in making it better from your and Moto's BS filled phone."
Thanks all for your time!
Press and hold the #1 on the keypad for vm.
If it asks for a mailbox number, you will have to call AT&T.
This is typical for users going from visual voicemail to standard voicemail.
Some AT&T reps forget to reconfigure your vm.

Thanks much! I came across a similar post elsewhere that said the same thing and I had to give'm a ring. I'll be setting it up here shortly! Thanks again.

I thought anybody with a Google phone would know to use Google Voice.
When you cone from iPhone they cancel your VM. You have to get them to set it up again, then you can use it.

Sure you can but you will still fry your LTE SIM card.
No need to do that on a 4G device.
Hmm I just read that the frying of the sim card is faults....would like to get more of ppls input on this...

Once again, this is incorrect. It will not damage your sim card in any way. It will simply disconnect. The whole "*228 fries your SIM" thing is from way back from when the Bolt first came out and has since been corrected.
Ok but that still doesn't answer my question....if I'm rooted and running gingerbread custom Rom can I *228 without messing anything up on my phone....

Just tried dialing *228 again for the sake of this thread to see if anything has changed. It still disconnects almost immediately, but now theres a message that says "A Verizon Wireless SIM has activated your service and has updated your phones roaming capabilities". Hope that helps you.

I did it literally just to see if anything had changed since the last time I did it(Which was a genuine mistake when I first got the phone). Nothing has ever happened any time I have dialed *228. If it were to invalidate/fry/immolate/otherwise destroy my SIM, I have extras, as well as two back up phones. I was trying to prove my point that dialing *228 from a 4G LTE device will no longer harm your SIM. Calm down with your insults, brother.

Yes and yes. I'm running Das Bamf 2.1. I really can't stress enough, though, that as far as I can tell, dialing *228 doesn't do ANYTHING either positive or negative other than give the message I posted earlier. I jumped into the testing menu and snooped around and it changes nothing. So unless there's some roaming setting on the network side that I can't see, there's nothing different.

was wondering if this could be possible cause i was reading the forums and found someone that did it by flashing the ap to the verizon razr if you could help me out that would be great thanks
It's not possible. Verizon uses CDMA, EVDO and LTE. AT&T uses GSM and UMTS. Completely different technologies. However, if you can get an XT910, a GSM version of the RAZR, you can use it on AT&T (this is what I have).

im actually looking into this because my cousin has just left Verizon for att and it is possible they use sim cards and people have reported it working im not sure on many details of it yet but its out there just google "verizon droid razr on at&t"
look here http://blog.laptopmag.com/ics-world-phone-capabilities-come-to-verizons-droid-razr-and-razr-maxx
You cannot do that after the ICS update. With ICS, you can roam onto global GSM networks but many people have reported that you cannot change the default network from Verizon.
From everything I've heard the xt912 has the appropriate radios to connect with at&t cell towers but the usage of this feature is being blocked by vzw. Now I don't know if a custom rom like cm9 would allow for this or not.

RAZR on AT&T network
Yes it is possible. I did it. The only thing is that I only use the phone for calls and texts and WiFi for data. In the bionic forum, they tell you to download Radiocomm. I did not do that. AlI did was just change the setting to gsm/utms network and placed the AT&T sim card and waited for 15-30 minutes for the phone to connect

does data work ?
what "little modification" are we talking about
write up ? link ?
The procedure...
Data does work because I get an "H". But i choose to turn off data because i do not want to be billed.
I am on ics.
This is what I did (modified from the bionic forum)
- got an att sim card activated with a basic gsm phone
- turned off razr
- replaced the Verizon sim card with att Sim card
- turned on phone. You will get an "unknown sim card" error. Press ok
- go to system setting>more> mobile networks> select GSM/UMTS
- click back button, select access point names, select AT&T US (wap.cingular)
- press *#*#4636#*#*
- go to phone information, select WCDMA preferred, below it, turn off radio then turn it back on, exit by pressing home
- turn off data sync in the mobile data networks. Also turn off wifi.
- wait up to 30 minutes or more to let the phone connect to the network

I turned on data then I lost the signal. It would not come back even though the phone reads the access point name. I think either AT&T or Verizon saw that I'm using an unauthorized sim card and disabled the signal.

That's what I figured. Cellzealot is working on a hack but it doesn't look very promising - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619563. They do have a hack for the Bionic to use 3G on AT&T. I set my little bros phone up a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, the hack seems to only work on GB and not ICS. Most Moto global phones can be unlocked for AT&T but since the Razr wasn't officially released as a global phone and they basically only announced global support because they couldn't patch it on ICS (my opinion, not confirmed), the Razr is different.

I haven't followed it as closely as I once did, but the Droid 3 is completely hackable because AT&T has a similar device. So I purchased the unlock code, flashed the GSM radio and it was done. TBH created a hack for the Droid Pro that would unlock it (old file, not recently updated) similar to the unlock file that works for the Bionic. They also have a Razr unlock file that I believe changes some settings to GSM (I don't believe it's a true hack just setting changes) but it doesn't unlock data in the US. It only allows data overseas. One user in the thread I linked to reported picking up data in the US but only because he's close to Canada and AT&T was roaming to Canadian towers. That's further proof that Verizon and US GSM networks have enabled some sort of block that is yet to be cracked. Cellzealot is a pretty smart guy. If I had to guess (that is IF it can be hacked), he'll be the guy to do it.
A general consensus across the board is that ICS has changed the radio handling which has made sim unlocking much more difficult and patched previous hacks. Again, I'm just paraphrasing what I've read from Cellzealot. He's your guy for more information.

On ICS now but I've tried it on GB too. Never have gotten anything to work. Have done the NV edit and various patches, roms, settings.
I hope cellzealot has an epiphany.
Ok..was playing around with apns on my phone today. I was able to receive but not send. I'm now able to receive and send on the stock app for messaging on ICS.
THIS IS FOR STOCK ROM BUT LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKS ON CUSTOM ROMS OR JB. I'm currently using 4.0.4 while i did this on a stock ROM.
So here is what you need to
1. Dial ##program & then enter the spc(all zero)
2. Go to the apn control then select apn config edit.
3. Then select the apn called ALU TEST SIM INTERNET.
4.you don't need to change all the other settings just do this.
MMSC=http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms
MMS PROXY = wap.mycricket.com
MMS PORT =8080
5. Press menu then save. Now restart phone.
You should now have working (send/receive) mms on the stock Android app for ICS.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS WORKS FOR YOU ON JB OR CUSTOM ROMS. THIS IS ON THE STOCK ROM.
Also found out editing the ALU CBS apn with the same above helps also.

It doesn't but it gives me a cheaper option than Verizon for service if I can't wrangle in my minute usage and keep it under 450 anytime... lol. I was just pointing out that if I had (insert almost any other Verizon 4G LTE phone here), I would be able to keep my 45 dollar StraightTalk plan and use one of their microSIM cards... Getting MMS working on Cricket on the RAZR would give me a slightly cheaper option than Verizon but more expensive than my StraightTalk was.
