I'm having a very serious problem that has just started with my Evo 3D.
I connect my phone to my wall charger before I go to bed. It says it's charging and has the little lightning bolt in the battery. I go to sleep .... when I wake up the phone is completely dead and still connected to my charger. Trying to turn it on is unsuccessful. Connecting it to my computer makes no difference as well. The only way to get it back on and charging normally is to go outside to my truck and connect it to the car charger. Magically it works like normal again.
I notice that when the phone comes back on, the battery is completely drained at 0%. Any ideas what the problem is? I went to sprint about it yesterday and they said if it keeps happening to bring it in which I will be forced to do but I wont have time for at least a few days because of work.

Phone not charging
by any chance, are you not using the htc oem charger? i have noticed in the past that i have that same issue with some of my friends chargers that arent htc oem. Try a different house charger. Seems the htc ones might put out a little extra juice or something because the off brands and motos say they're charging, but battery keeps dropping

I'm using the home charger that came with the phone BUT a USB cord I bought off monoprice.
The car charger i use is an iPod charger with a usb plug in. I'm using that one with the original USB cord that came with the phone. I didn't even think about using the original cord for charging over night. I'll try that tonight and see how it goes. Will report in the morning.
Is it possible you are using a USB cable designed for data only? Some do not have the charging pins intact, they are meant strictly for data.

It worked for a few months so I cant imagine that being the problem.
But using the original HTC usb cord worked just fine. No more monoprive USB cables for me.

I bought like 3 Blackberry micro USB cables off Ebay. They are the best I have used so far. The cable themselves are wrapped thicker and they are a good length. Much more stout and higher quality than most of the cheapies out there.

Hello all,
I just picked up my Photon a couple days ago and am loving it.
One odd problem I've noticed is that it really doesn't like charging in certain conditions- it won't charge in a DC->USB adapter I have, and it won't charge when I have it hooked up to a USB hub that in turn is connected to an AC adapter.
All the other phones I have access to (a couple EVOs, an Epic, an HD7, and others) charge fine in those conditions, so is this a general Photon issue or is it just my phone that's borked?
Sounds like a bad phone to me.

I dont know. I have an off brand ac usb adapter and it wont charge when connected to it. It may just be his adapters.

The only time I've had any issues via USB was with the cheesy sprint universal charger that screws together, but it will charge as long as it's not plugged into the computer. Could be that?
I am so sorry but I cannot remember because I rooted my phone the first day I got it. Does the phone turns itself on when you plug it into the charger? Mine does.
I'll turn the phone off.
Plug the phone to the charger.
The phone turns itself on.
Is thIs normal?
Mine doesn't. Did not do it stock either.

Any idea why this happens?
I don't even know where to start looking
Mine does but only when it wants to give me battery warning

This gave me a lot of grief when I flashed ICS. Try plugging it into a computer or different charger. My note wasn't charging, so I thought it best to turn it off to charge. Damn phone wouldn't stay off and if I pulled the battery and plugged it in it'd just keep vibrating. Check the charger, Samsung's are apparently a lot more picky than HTC, Motorola etc, because my wife's skyrocket goes all retarded on the thing too, yet it works fine for every other device I've plugged into it

Mine does. Did it on stock Gingerbread, and the leaked ICS. My HTC HD2 did that as well with just about every ROM in it I can think of, including the ICS one. They all turn themselves off in whatever the timeout is set to, unless you have the screen set to stay on when charging.

I'm on stock and mine does NOT turn on automatically when plugged in. I use my old HTC Inspire charger. It didn't do it with the supplied Samsung charging cable either

I found the problem...hope this will help others in the future.
It's all about the usb cable u are using.
I was using a data usb cable so whenever i plug the phone, the phone turns on thinking it's connecting to a computer. I tried using the usb cable that came with the phone and it did not do the problems i posted this thread.
I am not sure how different the Samsung usb cable is to the one i have but i found it to be the fix to my issue. Im only using a different usb cable because the stock one was too short.
Hope this helps
I had that problem at home with a specific no-name aftermarket charger - it was the charger, not the cable, because I switched the cable to a different charger and it stayed off (it was a data cable BTW).
Hadn't tried this with my computer at work or a charger I have at work - it did not turn on when plugged into the computer but DID turn on when I plugged it into the charger. This charger was the one that came stock with my HTC Advantage, with a mini-to-micro adapter on the end.

To me, it's the cable, not the charger.
I was using the same charger (Samsung OEM, the one that came with the phone). The only thing I changed was the cable.
Interesting. I'd love to know what is causing the phone to turn on - a certain voltage, pulsing voltage, whatever...
So I read a few places that say not to use any wall charger with the HTC One except for the charger that comes with it. It also says not to use any other cable? What do you guys thing? The cable shouldn't hurt the phone as long as it's decent quality right? Thanks.
And, dang, this phone can get hot!
I can't speak for anyone else...but I occasionally use my girl's Note 2 charger because it's longer (giggity) and so far I haven't noticed any damages. I'm assuming if it's a longer cord, it takes longer to transfer power from the outlet to the phone and that shouldn't hurt the phone. Then again...I could be wrong.
Yes this phone is Hot and it gets pretty hot. Heat + metal = not a good combo especially when in your hands or pocket.

I've been using a usb extension cord with my rezound charger and use the same one now with my one charger. It came with one of my usb wifi adapters and it works great

My phone doesnt seem to charge.
Ive replaced the battery and the chargers (on my third charger this week) and nothing seems to work. Two of the chargers dont seem to be recognised so dont charge the phone at all, the other one does but wouldnt charge the phone even though i was getting a steady charge of 1000mA through it.
Im using Boefla kernel and have 'ignore unstable current' and 'ignore safety margin' both ticked but have tried on my ROMs standard kernel (using Omni) and still getting no increase in battery percentage.
This would all point to the phones USB port not working but i used my girlfriends Lumia charger and surprisingly it charged normally
I have read in one of the other battery threads that a fatter USB cable allows the phone to charge, can this be confirmed? One of the new chargers (one that isnt recognised) ive bought is a 2A charger so i wouldnt have thought that size of the cable would cause a problem?
Any suggestions would be great.
A cheap charger or cable may cause problems, a worn usb port also. More likely to be issues with the plug or socket than the cable core size.

I thought it may have been the cheap charger thing. 2 of them are cheap nasty things but the other one is fine, ive used the same make previously and it worked fine. I thought the USB port myself till it charged using the Lumia charger.
Looks like im gonna have to buy a Samsung charger and see what happens.
Hey, so I just upgraded from a sensation and I am having weird issues with some USB cables.
When I use the 1 USB cable that I have with my Anker 9000mah astro2 battery pack, a cable that works just fine plugged into my sisters Nexus 4 and my old sensation, it won't charge! If I pull it to the side in either direction or stick my thumbnail in between the cable and port THEN it charges; but if I stick the same cable into my HTC wall plug, it charges with no issue! WTH?
Then if I take my official HTC cable and plug it into the Anker and my phone it charges with no issue either??? It also doesn't like the shorter cable that Anker provides with its chargers, no matter what that's plugged into. And it has an issue with another shorter USB cable that I use to charge the Anker battery.
But it works with every other cable so far.
Is this common? Does anybody else find their port is picky? Not sure if I should replace it, don't see the need yet as it's only with a few cables so far.
Thanks.

This phone isn't particularly picky, however, it becomes VERY apparent when you're using a low-quality cable with this phone.
For mine, it works 100% A-OK with like 7/8 cables I've tried, however, every so often I'll find one ****ty cheap china cable that doesnt let my computer see my phone, and makes my phone get uncomfortably hot when charging.
It's more picky than my old Inspire, but mostly it's just a matter of not using ****ty cables.

Huh. Well maybe it's a good thing its picky, early warning system I guess Haha. Still weird that my phone doesn't have problem with one cable if it's plugged into the wall but does if it's plugged into my anker.
I went ahead and ordered 2 original HTC cables for $4 on Amazon to replace the cables it doesn't like, we'll see if the phone works with them like my original cable that I'm using right now. Fingers crossed.

Yep. Early on, I had a cheap Chinese retractable cable in my truck. Plugged in and in 20 minutes sitting unused the phone got blazing hot and drained from 20% battery to 5%

Yikes! Gotta love low quality cables. Haha.
Does anybody have experience with monoprice cables? Just found them yesterday and they seem dirt cheap with good reviews.
