Hey guys, I got this app called BootManager. I have a MT4G with S-ON, running CM7. I thought it would be cool to dualboot and switch between CM7 and Virtuous roms, so I got this app. I just want to know if this app is safe to use. I really do not want to brick my phone
All it does is flash the boot partition so I imagine it has about as much chance of bricking your phone as flashing a rom does.
By the way s-off is required for this app to work.

How many people have unlocked using HTC's method? And how did it work? You like it?
I did...on a Mac at that too. It was easy...no problems.
I've done it on my win7 machine. Process went smoothly, no problems. Only draw is you have to use fastboot to flash ramdisks/kernels. no biggie

Me. I used the HTCevohacks method. I just liked the fact that he included all the stuff in one download rather than downloading multiple things from HTC.
Everything works well. The fact that you have to boot into recovery through fastboot is a bit annoying. Can't just download a ROM manager, download a ROM and flash it. But it isn't too bad.
I've got infected ROM with ziggy kernel and OC to 1.6. No problems.

ego disseravi cum HTC
was easy and worked perfectly on my mac. no setup at all cuz i already had fastboot and adb. just run one command, copy the code, download the unlocktoken, and flash!
sucks to have to boot into recovery from fastboot boot every time i wanna flash a nightly tho...

It "shouldn't" affect the insurance unless it can be proven that your mods are what caused the problem with you phone. Hard to prove and can be hard to disprove.
That's the only reason I am waiting for a non-HTC method of rooting. I like to keep the rooting under the radar just so they don't have a chance to use it against me some day. Call me paranoid.

Ok I am almost at the point of trying a Rom. My questions are..
1) being htvdev unlocked ota upgraded are there roms I cannot install? If so how can I tell.
2)again with the ota restriction can I use goo manager to install or do I need to use fastboot flash boot to do it.
3)looking for advice on a good Rom to install. Not sure about going senseless not that I am against it just I realize it is more than just the pretty face. Although the only widget I use is fancy widgets do not think that requires sence but I could be wrong. I would like the rom with the best multitask capabilities. Super user of course and buttons renapped for sure. The fastest most stable Rom woukd be best.
4) I have reset google wallet so will I be safe from bricking my chip?
Thanks for any and all help

What I think I do is take the boot.img out of it and use fastboot to flash it..

I unlocked my bootloader with HTC dev, and have S-ON. Apparently, it is okay to flash roms in this state, having used this method. I don't want to try flashing, as I don't want to risk bricking my phone and I am waiting for either cyanogen mod for my GSM version of the Evo 3d, or a decent, working jellybean ROM. So, do I need to get S-OFF, or am I okay as it is? If I do need S-OFF, what would be the best way to do it?
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda app-developers app
Oh yes, and I have superuser, Google Now, CWM recovery and HBOOT 1.53.0007.
U don't need it but it makes things easier. My bootloader is locked but I have s-off. That's the way I prefer it. U really only need one or the other to flash roms.

If you want to flash new firmware you do. If you want to flash a kernel, depending on your recovery, you need to be s-off or use a computer to boot recovery. If you want a custom splash screen, you need s-off.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
I just installed the 4ext recovery and flashed a few roms. It can accommodate S-on to some degree. And its a lot easier than using the volume butttons to do anything in recovery.
You should give that a shot if you haven't already.
Is there much risk in using the wire method to gain s-off? I don't want to break any part of my phone and that sounds like it might... Im fine with the splash screen, and I don't want to mess with kernels. Would s-on restrict the usage of roms such as cyanogen mod, and is that rom likely to be released for the gsm evo 3d?

A lot of the ics roms that have true 3.x kernels that work better with updated firmware. You would have to s-on to update them. Unless you relock take all the otas the unlock again, but some roms based on the new OTA need the 1.58 hboot and all the aosp roms can't use it so it necessitates going back and forth with hboots. That also requires s-off.

it honestly doesn't hurt too much to do it, especially if you don't intend to fiddle around/flash ROMs with your phone too much.
Yeh man I was a bit skeptical to do it too, but after doing the research and finding out it was recommended to do S-off I was glad i did, and its fairly easy to do.
is there any one click methods?
the ones in the and development forum are a little complex and i dont feel like going through it if theres something easier
I hate to be the guy to say it. If the methods your're finding are too complex, you may be better off just staying put where you are.

I'll need to agree with that. Although I believe there is a program out there that has like a one-click method? I'd research it quick but I'm far too lazy right now. Regaw or something?

Since you are s-on you need to flash the kernel first using flash image gui or fastboot flash it or use a sense rom that has a kernel installer

MeanBean is always a great ROM for those who are scared to S-OFF. But aren't you suppose to flash the kernel after? Wouldn't flashgui's kernel install be overridden?

I've rooted a few of my previous phones, but my DNA is getting slow on me.
Have had the DNA since it came out, but never got around to fixing it up. I'm really out of the loop, so I need to be schooled again.
I want the speed back in my DNA, what's the best method? Thanks!

Are you on the newest update? Are you unlocked? The best way is to either flash a custom ROM and kernel or just flash a custom kernel on your stock ROM.

Check your software version, if you have 3.06.605.4 you will need to head over to Rumrunner.us and follow their procedures and it will fully unlock/s-off your device for you and you will be able to flash w/e you want.

To s-off you need to use the rum runner exploit
Head to rumrunner.us download the exploit for the dna and follow the simple instructions.
From there you will be unlocked and s-off so you can flash a recovery and flash a custom rom to speed up your phone again.

Long time viper user here. I suggest doing viper as it is close to stock but has the tons of tweaks you would want to make it how you want. I am currently running the blackout GPE ROM to see if I like it, but always will have a nand of Viper as it runs best on this phone.
