[Q] CWM didn't work for me.... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I can get into recovery, but none of the menu options work and I get:
CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.3
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Did I do something wrong?

how?
i screwed up my flash of a rom, now i can't even GET into recovery - and all the HowTo's i read are about the i9100 and require a home button.
what are you using to boot into recovery?
thanks

I'm pretty sure its vol up + vol down + power to get into stock recovery.

Yeah, it's the same as it was on the infuse. Hold Vol up AND down. Press power, release power. Release volume keys when you are in recovery.
I followed the CWM instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285823
and it was completely borked. I had to Odin the PDA from the root thread...

Wow nevermind....
It did work.
a.) you HAVE to do the 3 finger salute to get into it. You can't boot into CWM from ROM manager
b.) the select button is NOT the power button (as it was on the infuse). It's now the "Home" button (the house).
Duh. Sorry.

I think we could really use a new sticky at the top of the SGS 2 section.
I should say somewhere obvious, "DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER ON SGS 2". In the posting should be the explanation that CWM comes with the kernel.
Moving between different android OS types where rom manager is used, this can be confusing.

I'm getting that error too. I gave up and went with cognition. I'm just gonna wait for a more stable rom from cyanogen.

I was using 2e recovery to make a nandroid back up, then went back into recovery to flash a mod but Rom manager didn't boot into recovery right. A exclamation mark pops up in a triangle, then nothing happens until i press the home button and recovery but with this error "failed to verify whole-file signature". Now i can't use cwm to flash anything. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Try uninstalling Rom manager, then re-download it and re-install it and re-flash it.
Yea I tried that twice still no success

Had same issue with the verification, this is how I ended up fixing mine.
1. Odin with "froyo no brick eugene", and the pit
2. Place CWR on sd card, reinstall updates may have to do this process twice till you boot into CWR, if verification error do the following.... place the
CWR voodoo recovery on. Rename "update.zip" and go about it this way.
3. Once in recovery you should be able to flash any rom, as usual wipe data/factory reset, cache, davlik. Should be good to go, Voodoo CWR has helped me, been through this process twice.
Had this problem also. Try using hardware keys for recovery instead of ROM manager. It happened with eugene gingerclone r2. I think it's because the cwm recovery on the kernel and the update.zip are two different versions.
Hello,
I am on a Samsung Galaxy S (original rom) with froyo.xwjpa and i can't get clockwork to work. ("failed to verify whole-file signature") Kernel: 2.6.32.9 (rooted phone with lagfix)
What to do?
I tried the update.zip via the 3 button method and via the "ROM Manager" (clockworkmod 2.5.1.2)
(I want to flash my phone with the "Darkys_V8.0_Gingerbread_Edition_Wipe")
[RESOLVED]
I went from the Unofficial Froyo to Macnut R14 to Obsidian v4.2 and now to Nero v3. I had this problem on Obsidian, I forced into recovery by holding down the volume buttons and the power button then let go after the vibrant logo is shown twice, then flashed a new ROM and it worked, so after switching ROM's (Nero 3), clockwork is working now. I really don't know why it wasn't working, I was unable to flash any mods, themes, or kernels but a ROM worked.
EDIT:

I'm not to knowledgeable about the I9000 Samsung Galaxy S, even though the Vibrant should be identical except for the FFC and ROM, but you can try this:
Did you try disabling your lagfix?
If not then give that a try. If that doesn't do it, uninstall ROM Manager, then reinstall it, open ROM Manager, reflash clockwork, I believe the newest version is 2.5.1.3, then try the 3 button method.
I have the same problem too (using 3e recovery).
Tried pressing the vol + power keys to get into recovery mode, but still getting "failed to verify whole-file signature"
Pls help...
I just rooted my stock Froyo Vibrant and installed ROM Manager so this is a brand new setup. No other ROMs installed. I am getting the E:failed to verify whole-file signature error with no luck.
Tried the following:
-Reinstalling ROM Manager and selecting "Flash Clockwork Recovery"
-Rebooting using "Reboot into Recovery" - I get stock recovery text
-Selecting "reinstall packages"
-I get the error above
-Turn off phone and use Vol Up + Vol Down + Power to boot into stock recovery
-Select "reinstall packages"
-Same error
I want to flash the Bionix-v ROM, but I want to get a nandroid backup first since I've already bricked a Vibrant before with no backup.
Any help would be appreciated!
Here, this should do it, @ the part where you Reinstall Packages, you might have to do it twice if it brigs you into stock recovery again.

That text looks like what you get when you are trying to install a non-signed package and your signature verification is turned on. NOT when you are creating a backup.
Make sure you are choosing backup, not install zip file. If you get that text when choosing a backup, something is wrong with your version of CWM.

It is indeed when I try to use ROMmanager. Ihave Flashed ClockworkMod Recovery (Current Recovery: ClockworkMod 4.0.1.5) I select "Backup Current ROM" and get the message I posted above.
If I turn the phone off and then try VolumeUp+Home+Power the screen only flashes once and thenjust stays on download mode screen...
strange!!! download mod comes with vol-down, not vol-up
OK, you just flash TAR version of CF-root for your matching kernel, or Siyah kernel from ODIN
and forget ROM manager....there is a compatibility issue for Rom manager and the CWM flashed from that with SGS2
feel free to ask if you dont understand
JUST FLASH STOCK TO GET BACK TO OLD ROM!! you can find all you need in my signature
Ah, Vol-Down... D'oH!
Ok tried that and now I still get the same as before...
Android system recovery <3e>
Enter: OK key. Select : Vol UP / Vol Down
reboot system now
apply update from sdcard
wipe data/Factory reset
wipe cache partition

I rooted the phone using SuperOneClick...
Do I need to install a custom kernel?
no problem, just flash Siyah or CF-root
you can get CWM working everything flowlessly
I will try that...
Thanks...
Hmm, when I flash the Siyah kernel (using Odin) the phone won't reboot...
I have to reboot in download mode and flash a original BUKG2 kernel to get the phone working again.
I have tried downloading insecure kernels but whenever I try to unzip them it asks for a password?
did you try CF-root

Okay ....hold both the volume up "and " volume down ..."and " power .....all together ...but you must start from a powered off condition ,and you must push the volume buttons first ...then the power button ....
Hold until you get a single vibration ...then release the power button .

You can release the volume buttons "after " you see the recovery screen ......g

I install CWM recovery via Odin and it was successful. But when I try to boot up my phone to cwm, it boots in to my stock 3e recovery. please help . I'm running on Jelly Bean 4.1.2.
Since you are rooted, use the Quick Boot app to go to recovery from your home screen. Much easier than doing the vol up + vol down + power button thing.

[Q] Signature needed for Nexus rom

Hey guys, I recently rooted my SGS3, and that worked. Only thing: I want to have the nexus version (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2076672) installed on my phone. I got into recovery mode, but when I try to install the two files, it says It doesnt have the signature needed.
It is a phone from EU, as I live in Amsterdam, Holland.
Someone please help?

Sounds like you're still on a stock recovery
If signature verification fails, you need to be on a custom recovery. Then you can turn signature verification off in settings. If you're not on Custom recovery, well you cant flash anything unofficial

I really want to have the nexus version installed.
And I rooted it without a laptop, though... My laptop hates me, cause it accepts every usb device, except for my phone. So I rooted it without my laptop..
Is there any change of still succeeding?

When you manually boot into recovery (From off, Vol down + Home + Power), what version does it say? How did you root?
So, I didnt find any Version info, But I rooted my phone with an app I found on the market, I think it was called RootBox or something.
Later I performed a factory reset, because my phone was getting anything but faster.
Anyway, thanks in advance for your support. I hope we can figure this out

META_INF>com>google>android>updater-script
open it with notpad++
remote assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "pyramid" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "pyramid"); -- or watever the build.product will be
then put it in the zip again, make sure you overwrite it
and install the rom again the error should be gone now!
Good luck, JM_team
Re
The same as he said
Or if you have any other recovery on your SD (TWRP or I personally use Devils rec.) Flash it, flash CM and the dreaded error 7 should not come up. I think its due to outdated recovery so either way its better to flash an up to date one. Cheerz
