Turn off the soft-key lights? - HTC EVO 3D

Is it possibly to turn off or dim the soft key lights? Sometimes when its late at night, and my brightness is at its lowest, the soft keys are pretty bright and hurt my eyes.
Is there any way to lower it?
Thanks

Yea there's a kernal to lower the lighting its on the dev section.

Thanks, looks like il be trying this out. However, does it dim the light? or just turn it off?
Also, i forgot to mention im on the GSM version of the device... so I dont really have much of a choice of kernels :S

Turns it off, at least that's the only feature I have used. Not sure if it has been updated or not. I downloaded it the same day the thread was started and haven't really kept up.

*should* in theory, be possible to both, turn off and dim based on the sysfs control files provided by the stock kernel. i know for sure it is possible to toggle them on and off as I tested that previously to answer a post.
if the brightness can be controlled, it'll be through a control file labeled brightness under /sys/class/leds/button-backlight directory. you should be able to echo values to the file to experiment with the brightness levels. this is also how the screen backlight brightness can be controlled.
based on a previous post I made, term backlight leds is how they are labeled in the android sysfs files, even though they are just the bottom 4 button led lights:
joeykrim said:
if you're technically inclined and feel adventurous, i'm pretty sure the backlight leds can be controlled thru the sysfs space and adb shell.
/sys/class/leds/button-backlight
all the control files are in there and you can experiment echo'n values to see if it turns them on/off and/or controls the brightness ...

hope that helps!

If you want something quick fast and easy. Use screen filter in the market.

If you pull the boot.img from my ROM you will have a stock kernel with ciq/htc logging disabled and DIM LED capacitive buttons.

? Make Hardkeyes to stay lit?

Is there a way to make the hard keys (home, menu, back, etc.) stay lit up whenever the screen is on. I know it will use more battery but I have the extended battery anyway.

You might wanna have your phone checked, because mine stays on all the time when the screen is on.

Do your hard buttons ever light up?

i tried on both auto and full brightness. It comes on when i cover the top of the phone with my hand which is the light sensor. I am running beta 1.4 of thunder and lightning ROM and adrynalyn 1.11 Kernel. Could either of those have anything to do with it? I never really noticed it before so it may be a new thing or it may have always been like that. Thanks for the replies.

Turn off capacitive buttons during movie

I finally got around to watching the green Hornet last night and I realized the capacitive buttons do not turn off. I remember a setting on the epic that controlled them but it was for the keyboard. I looked in the display settings and didn't see anything for them; am I missing something?

This was one of the biggest complaints when it was released. As of right now, no, there is no way of turning it off. Gotta wait till root. There is an app that some have been using (can't remember its name) that does it in a certain way.

I'm looking for this as well. I was able to turn off the LEDs on my HTC EVO 4g back in the day with LEDs Hack (ROOT ONLY) in the marketplace but it doesn't work for the 3VO. The capacitive buttons on the 3VO are bright as **** too.

I use "Screen Filter" In the market, works great other then the notification icon and I have learned to live with it.

I just tried this and it seemed to have issues consistently turning the button lights back on.
Now if only I could turn off the charging led light too.
Oh, I totally forgot about that. I just made a widget that dropped the brightness to 96.1 (highest i could get) and checked the box. Works great though it makes the magnifying glass light up a bit. Still, cool beans!

Yeah my search key lights up too lol I hate it, but its better then the BRIGHT lights.
Someone made a script to toggle capacitive button lights on/off. It does require temp root though. Haven't tried it myself.

I've mentioned it a few times. Tasker+ screen filter.
As soon as a game/movie starts it goes to 96.1 and turns capacitives off. Then, as soon as you exit, screen filter gets turned off.
I also have it do that when I plug the phone in it pops up a menu asking "car, home, night" if I choose night screen filter comes on at 40% to dim the screen past its lowest level. (girlfriend is a light sleeper)

Weird Capacitive Buttons Lighting Issue

So I thought I was the only one with this issue until I came across a Youtube video showing another EVO 3D with this issue. Sometimes the backlight on the capacitive buttons on my phone won't be lit except for a small portion of the right side of the search button. Anyone else have this issue? Usually a reboot fixes this.

Same here. The search key will never fully go out.
I'm starting to wonder if this is a defect or hopefully a software bug that can be fixed through an OTA update.

I suspect it to be some sort actual defect. I'm not anticipating it being fixable, until further hardware revisions to the phone. Hopefully I'm wrong, but we shall see.

I do not think it is really much of an issue. It has to be fairly dark to even notice the problem and if it is that dark the capacitive buttons back lights should be on anyways. I only realized it because I was forceably turning off the capacitive buttons back lights as well as the charging LED using tasker at night when I put my phone into my dock at night.
I have this problem but its only during boot... Nbd...

Mine look pretty similar in brightness.
The question that I have about the buttons is there a way to change their brightness or turn the backlight off? I when the phone is in the dock and in night mode the screen dims but the buttons are still at full brightness which defeats the purpose of dimming the screen backlight.

Yup, just download "led's hack" from the market and after opening app it'll ask what phone you have, choose "Droid X" and you'll be able to disable the bottom led's and top too if wanted. Don't forget to hit thanks

Looking into this
I'm a Sprint Product Ambassador supporting the launch of the Motorola Photon. I wasn't able to find any settings that would control the backlight for the capacitive buttons natively on the Photon. I know on some of our other Android devices you can match button backlight to screen timeout, etc but I am not seeing anything similar for Photon. I am researching thid further but did a little testing for you today with my own HDMI dock and while it's no real fix, I did see that after leaving it on the dock for a couple of minutes in night mode, the capacitive button backlight did go off after a couple of minutes.
I guess I didn't leave it on long enough to see them go off. I'm trying the app for now and so far it's doing what I need. If the lights go out like you said there must be a timer value somewhere that I'm going to see if I can find.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Mine seem the same, although of course apparent brightness is different because the buttons are different sizes.
I exchanged the phone and this is my third photon and its rock solid.
P.S. I was having issues with lag and removed "watchdog" and that may have been my problem. it was the free app on amazon a while back and I got it. does anyone else use that program?

Keep soft touch keys light?

Is there anyway to keep them light up? They only come on when i cover the sensor.
Not yet, but with when we get S-Off I am sure a custom kernel can be built to keep them on or off

They should have left it optional to turn it on or off in the settings.
Its depends on the ambient light, if its light enough, it turns soft key off.
If its in low light places, then it turns on.
Any updates on this?
Ineffibilis has the option in "miktweaks" to keep soft keys on or off...
