AT&T Galaxy S2 Boot Question - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hello
I just purchased the AT&T Galaxy S2. Got it home and rooted already. All works well so far with no issues. However I do notice on my boot screen, the usual boot logo but on the bottom of the display is a yellow Explanation Point. Is this normal? It still boots up fine and operates as it should. I was just wondering what the yellow explanation point means.
Thank You

If you want the exclamation triangle to go away, flash back to stock kernel. Your using the insecure kernel that was needed to root.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium

You can get that to go away if you use Entropy's method to restore back to stock which will also root the phone in the process. Be aware though if you do anything like install CWM, you'll get that exclamation point back. It's basically a visual indicator that the phone has been modified... but that's all it is. If you can simply ignore it, you're fine.

Oh Ok Thank You. Guess its a easy indication for any AT&T reps to do a quick check as to check to see if the phone has been hacked or not.

Can you tell me if the bootloader has been unlocked as well with this root method?

To be honest, the AT&T reps (if knowledgable) really don't care about rooting and custom roms. When I picked up my phone I spend a good 10 minutes talking with two of the guys about rooting the phones, cyanogen 7, and how to tether without AT&T noticing. Another rep came over during the conversation and the only thing he said was "root that thing the first chance you have".

How do you get stock rom back. I've only had iPhones and learned everything about jail breaking them, decided to give up iPhone and get gs2. I really want this yellow triangle to go away.

5 minutes of reading the dev forum and you'd have your answer. The dev forum is still only one page!

Plug in a jig from powered off state and it will clear flash counter and remove the triangle even if you are still on a custom kernel

It was never locked in the first place.
The closest thing we have to a locked bootloader is the triangle warning/flash counter. But that's pretty benign.
(Exception: The bootloader of newer Samsungs will only accept signed binaries when trying to overwrite the bootloader it seems. But there is no valid reason to be flashing bootloaders right now, and rarely ever is.)

Many of you are such asses. I've read comments on these forums where people have asked questions and many of you are ruDr and smart asses. you all love the Android platform and it would seem to me that you all would be excited to help and assist someone new. If for no other reason to get more people to see and understand just how awesome the platform is. Instead many of you are only interested in showing how smart you and dumb you can make others seem. The iPhone community was so different from this group of arrogant jerks. I say that about most not all.

calm down - no one is being a "jerk" or "smart ass."
you obviously didn't search for the answer to your question before you asked it - that's all that people are asking you to do.
if everyone were to post a new thread for every question that they have, then the forums will become cluttered with repetitive threads.
all Entropy512 was saying was that this device is so new, that the forums are still very small (the answer to your question constantly remains in the top 5 or so threads in the dev section) - so searching for your solution should be pretty easy at this point.
people are always happy to help, but if it is obvious that you didn't search the forums before asking your question (most of the time, a simple google search is sufficient), you can definitely expect people to tell you to search before posting.

SGS2 i777 showing i9100 on boot screen?!?
I've had my SGS2 (I777) for a week now, it is rooted, when it boots, the splash screen not only contains the yield sign, but it says Galaxy S2 then lists the i9100 model... is this normal or was something done incorrectly in rooting...
I used the exact directions from the sticky root post of using Odin and CWM... i found this very odd, i haven't really had many issues other than people complaining about my voice during calls... i need to figure out how to fix that part especially...

yeah. searching. its only in the rules that you agree to when you register on the forums. there is a video to watch explaining it, and its littered throughout the forums that you should SEARCH before posting a question or whatever random thought pops into your brain.
is it so wrong to assume that when you agree to the forum rules, that you would, i dont know, actually follow some of them?

This is covered all over these forums in multiple threads. It's normal after flashing a custom kernel.

Since the recent topic of conversation is people who don't read or search the forum threads before posting, I find it amusing how this post is right in the middle of said conversation. How many times are people going to ask the exact same question? You can find the answer (being asked by another random person) on pretty much every page of every thread on this sub-forum.

I wasn't asking about the yellow yield sign. I was asking about why it would say i9100. I've literally searched a week and seen nothing mentioning that it is normal to say i9100 when the phone is actually a i777.

Because Samsung didn't bother to change the logo that is displayed when in warning mode.

I bought USB jig on Ebay for $3, removed the yellow triangle and the reference to I9100

You have to carry it in under warranty (you know the drill ).
wait, WHAT?
some obscure thread is 'mentioning' that VillainRom is not compatible with Tmobile's GS2, oh and btw it bricked my phone and there's no blatant warning or any other mention of this on VillainRom's thread and download in here?
i bricked mine three days ago and up until NOW have been thinking it was something i did wrong. just happened across this thread as i was JUST ABOUT to run the thing again on my new GS2.
i can't believe the mods in XDAD are letting this go. damn. i'm glad i was looking around for some suggestions which led to this little comment.

Well considering that VR is in the Europe s2 section then user error is at fault if you have a T-Mobile or at&t they are different and the user should at least take the time to look at the forums present before flashing ROMs hence there is no need for Pulser or any other chef to note that its not compatible with XY&Z....

except the many end up there from Google and don't even know that they're in the "Europe S2" section. i had no idea til just now.
simply saying some bolder warning might save a few people a very expensive phone. i found a couple others who'd made the same mistake - there are lots of NOOBS in the way of ROMS like myself who don't even know. your forum is HUGE, and there are MANY google results linking you. that's a LOT of NOOBS ...
a little warning would have saved our asses. T-Mobile saved mine, tho, so it's all ok.
There is a completely seperate forum for the Tmobile SGSII. When the SGSII, and probably that ROM came out there were no variations, just the European version. It is not up to a dev to save your phone, it is up to you to put in the time and research before deciding to mess with it.

It is not our place to do your homework for you. This is what happens when people dont research before rewriting the OS on their phone. People are so fast to want to flash a custom rom before they even know what it is doing that this happens. Flashing a custom rom is not for everyone. If you cant put at least 20 hours into just reading up before you do it maybe you should rethink flashing a custom rom. Roms are not for the average person as they dont have the time to keep it up. I am all for custom roms but have come to understand that the "average" person has no business messing with the OS on their Phone

When you enter the world of pimping phones then the legwork to understand your device is down to user...
Coming from the days where not every kid with a gat "comedy value" had a smartphone I remember when the info was far less and smaller user base. "Yet have never flashed a wrong ROM or bricked a device"
If a user is prepared to flash there expensive smartphone without searching reading then its there fault.
After all there are disclaimers on pretty much all threads and XDA as general so as to stop anyone taking flak for user error.

Hey man hit up my email we need to chat. Yeah I swap it up. Now so I stay on topic as well lol. Please do your homework. We are not coming down on you to be mean. Stylez is right in what he says. when I started here there was like 2 roms for the device and the steps were far more complex. Stylez I am sure remembers lol I blew his pm up lol while doing my research with questions till I knew what I was doing. There was no flashing stock and returning the phone under warrenty which mind you breaks you warrenty. So please for the love of all things tech. Take the time and do the research.

Sticky Request i777 =/= skyrocket

I would just like to request that a sticky be made or a warning be added to the main stickies in the original and ported development forums to warn users that the i777 Galaxy S II 4G is not the i727 Galaxy SII Skyrocket. It seems really easy for myself as well as others to confuse the two.
I bricked my friends Skyrocket after flashing a ROM from the ported development thread as others have also done. Here is the post from the skyrocket forum.
lynyrd65 said:
So, I made the stupidest mistake ever flashing a rom. My friend comes over and tells me his phone is slow and acts funny. He says that he wants a new Rom which is more user friendly (if there is one). So, I've already flashed a ROM on his phone before so it already had CWM recovery installed. I decide to try MIUI on the phone.
The first thing I do, which is what I always DID (and unless I get lazy will never do again) is open up google and type "XDA AT&T Galaxy S II", fairly harmless, I though but it turned out to be a fatal mistake. I search the forums, see buzz about ICS leaks and figure I'm in the right place then I see a section called ported development. I go there and see MIUIandroid for Galaxy SII right off the bat and download it without a second thought. This may seem obviously wrong to you all but being that I am a Nexus S 4G user, I am unaccustomed to the numeration of the model number, I thought i777 sounded correct.
I boot into recovery then proceed to back-up the phone, wipe data, cache, dalvik, and finally system like always then flash the rom. It flashed just fine then I returned to the recovery screen and tapped reboot system.
It never turned back on. No matter what I did to try to get a response (two buttons then plug in usb to get ODIN with and without the battery), nothing, no response. I didn't figure out why until I went to find JTAG services and found that the i777 was in fact the older model.
I plan to send it in to be JTAG'ed and buy my friend a Galaxy Nexus. We've been friends for years and he isn't mad at all. I have a job and can afford it (even though it sucks). I figure I owe it to him. However this could have all been avoided if I had paid attention.
In closing, I would first like to suggest some things so maybe some of you learn from my mistakes.
1. As experienced an XDA'er as you may think you are, even you can make (uber) rookie mistakes. Pay attention and work slowly, your wallet will thank you!
2. Never, EVER flash a rom for a friend! The worst things always tend to happen when you are using someone elses stuff! (no idea why, but they do!)

I recognize many will say I didn't pay enough attention and that this is completely my fault. That's true, it is.
However, I think adding a warning wouldn't harm these forums and feel that it would be extremely helpful. Most people are not perfect and small reminders like that could help spare users from making a grave mistake.

Just curious... if you didn't take the time to see if you were in the right forum, would you have REALLY checked the sticky to see if it was the right forum also?
I guess if you say it would help.
I wonder if anyone has ever accidentally flashed a skyrocket rom on a i777?

[Q] Naming of SGS3 forum (another bricked SGS3)

Looks like I've fallen victim (as well as others) to not noticing that there are 2 forums for the Galaxy S3 and bricking my phone not even 24 hrs after getting it in my hands.
Any way this forum could give at least *some* indication in the forum name that it is for the International version? It seems like a simple way to save a lot of people a lot of stress and $$. Had I seen International version in the forum name, or somewhere in a sub-forum, I would have avoided it altogether and easily avoided hard bricking my phone.
In my case what I did when rooting was follow this forum to this thread:
SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT V3.0
and noticed that AT&T SGS3 uses a different toolkit, so i followed the link to:
SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 QCOM TOOLKIT V1.0
thinking it was just a different thread in this same forum (I've never come across split forums in any of the previous phones Android or otherwise) I followed everything there, and had zero issues with rooting and getting CWM on there.
I went back to the Android development sub-forum and decided I'd stick with a ROM similar to the stock rom for starters (seems the least adventurous, just in case), the most common seeming to be CM9 or Omega. I've already seen CM9, so I figured I'd try out Omega. Downloaded it, copied it over to internal SD, followed the usual boot to CWM, backup, clear data, clear cache, and flash zip.
Installer ran through, said it was successful, and showed an error about a mismatched property (can't remember the exact error). Installer said it would reboot, I clicked go and that was the last the screen turned on.
I've had at least a fair amount of experience with flashing ROMs, bootloaders, etc. across several phones and have had no serious hard bricking issues until recently. I usually pay attention to indications of different versions of a particular phone and which ROMs, etc go with which phone but this one got the best of me.
Note the heads up on the first page .
PM mods to change to International in the forum header .
Wont stop those who fail to read the instructions same happened on SGS2 presumption by users that this is the forum for my phone .Says I9300 on the lid but the phone in question is SGH 1747 not I9300 .

Last time I check, this number is only for international SGS3
Seems like I start to think like a Green Day's song...
Sorry to hear your phone is broken.
Have you tried getting it into download mode or using a Jig?
One of both methods should get you running again.
Btw, cm9 is the absolute opposite of stock Rom: it has NOTHING Samsung-specific since it is built from heavily modified Google sourcecode,

Nobody have to change anything!
Some people have to learn to READ!
Is your device's model the GT-i9300??? If you've killed it than it for sure is NOT!

People have already explained how to differentiate between the international version and the US version.
This forum has I9300 written on top, that means international version.
Your phone has its own forum easily found by searching for att galaxy sIII.
Your phone isn't the I9300 so why would you flash it with stuff for that model??
Would you flash a kernel for a I9250 or a rom for an I515? No.
Sorry this happened to your phone but it happens so often here that now not a single f*ck will be given as it is down to not reading and not searching. User error.
This has been fixed before so try search here and in your respective forum.
Lesson learned.

1. "Hello ... Help please" is ...NOT.. a topic title. In future do not put generic crap. Titles are supposed to be descriptive of topic content so that people who are browsing know what topic is about at a glance.
2. Rule #1 of XDA is to use search before creating topics which you obviously couldn't be bothered to do since this is a FAQ and discussed allot. A simple search would have found you answer in seconds instead of adding to the spoon feed type clutter of XDA.

Indeed. Its getting worse and worse.
I'm actually quite amazed how bad it's gotten.
The AMOLED display on my i9100 failed a couple days ago, and at first I was quite sad.
Then I realized that meant I wouldn't have to read the incredible amount of rule breaking posts that are found in this forum these days... Though I'll probably still pass through from time to time.
Who knows, I may end up replacing the display on the i9100 and keeping it as a back-up.

Am I doing something horribly wrong or is it a simple fix that I will probably feel totally embarrassed about. Also the little green android dude always shows error above it.Please Help

You really need to educate yourself. Just jumping in like it appears you are will only cause a lot of problems. No one is going to take you step by step through the entire process. Read, read, read. Research as much as you can. Then research some more. It's the best thing you can do.

Do you even know what your build number is? Are you rooted? If so, what method did you use to root? What recovery are you trying to use?

If you actually did research you would know that you can't install a custom recovery to a MK2 build. Your ONLY option is Safestrap. (Search).
Good luck.

"They" said Vroot was safe to use.
Did "They" also tell you to then try to flash a custom recovery like TWRP? Then "They" lied.
You're on MK2. As I've told five or six people today, you can't have a custom recovery on any I454 other than those on the MDK build.
First, there's several different phones called the Galaxy S4. The hardware and software aren't the same between vendors. The Verizon model is VERY locked down and won't permit you to flash custom ROMs. For you, on MK2, Safestrap is the only way to custom flash.
Read the threads here on Safestrap and the thread in the development forum to help you understand what you can do.
They're long threads, but read them. If you can't spend the time to read, don't flash, as you'll just brick your phone.
Just because he is new doesn't mean you have to be a jerk, I know this happens a lot but being mean never does anything but cause more problems.

Thank you for understanding. I am sorry I am a noob and as expected I didn't know what exactly to research up. I didn't know as a NOOB that I said I was that the build number was my problem. There for I researched what I did know and you can see when i became a member and when I decided to post this and every day in between I was trying different methods on how to get a custom ROM on my phone. Luckily for me you were very resourceful and I learned a great deal from you and appreciate it a lot. I know what you are doing is really aggravating and i praise you for your knowledge. I just hope next that next time we are in contact and I knowingly ask a noobish question you will be a little more understanding with me. The only reason that I posted on here was because I felt that I had tried every possible way and was doing something wrong and it happens to be that I just couldn't do it the ways I was researching up. Thanks a lot for all your help boss man I hope soon enough I can pick your brain for all the knowledge you have when I come across another problem with rooting a different device or just some questions about a certain Rom.
Ok so I just want to say thank you all for your help and the advice you gave me it was totally awesome. I got it to work and now im running Hyperdrive on my galaxy s4. thank you so much.

there is nothing mean about commenting on researching and fully understanding before proceeding. We have dozens of posts every day in this forum by "noobs" who don't take 5 minutes to read anything. And then expect massive help when they screw their phones up....
There are all sorts of youtube videos on just about every aspect of GS4. We have countless threads on what you can and can't do to the GS4 and yet every single day we have new posters asking why they can't load any rom they want or whats taking so much time to get a bootloader unlocked,,,,we have dedicated Devs who basically donate their time to all of us. The least we can do is educate ourselves in what we can and can't do....

And you are very right with your statement I completely agree with you. But as a noob to this I tried to educated myself as much as possible The only thing I hate more is not being able to figure something out on my own. But I had no clue what was my problem to the fact that I couldn't flash a rom with all the possibilities and programs at my disposal. It was just not knowing what to search not the fact that all noobers are lazy

Sorry if you think I'm being a jerk, but I wasn't exaggerating. Five to ten people come here just about every day wondering why their phone bricked due to trying to install custom recovery when spending just an hour of two reading this forum would have made it clear that they can't do that.
Trust me, I wasn't being mean, simply blunt. I'm astonished by anyone that thinks that flashing random stuff onto a $600 phone without spending an hour or two to understand what they're doing is a good idea.
I'm not saying you don't have the right to be mean because you do but before you are just figure out if they are Are the stupid noobs or the ones that actually took the time to try to search but couldn't come up with anything. Just remember not every is a complete idiot of a noon.
The thing is that we all were noobs once, but we didn't ask anyone to hold our hands. Unfortunately I can't say I believe you tried as hard as you say you did OP. I mean if your new to rooting, the first thing you should do is search google or youtube for a guide. That's a pretty basic realization all of us had when we learned about this hobby. If you had read or watched any of those guides, you would know everything in rooting depends on a device's bootloader status and how to learn the status of your own bootloader. Then you would've known where to begin in searching in XDA. XDA clearly states it is a site for development & developers, so question's that are covered in any of the thousands of beginner guides get met with harsh responses.

We all have our beliefs and no one can argue but all I'm saying is that the only thing that stopped me was that I didn't know that the me7/mk2 build could not be flashed like I tries through Odin or goo manager or any of the other 10 ways I tried. But once I found out about safestrap it was all good money. And I thank everyone on here for the advice.

joshm, we all get a bit perturb with new posters becasue we know if some rudimentary research was done on their part before they leaped into rooting and romming and all that, 90% of the problems would cease. I have taken dozens of PMs from people who were lost and I kept sending them to links that I was able to find in minutes of searching either the XDA forums or elsewhere. We do have the right to get a bit frustrated when we see post after post of why can't I do this or why can't I do that.

I've certainly done some stupid things and asked some obvious questions when I 1st hopped on xda. But I'd like to think I've settled in ok. Seems to me though this is just how it's going to be huh? You two know far more than I do and even I'm hopping on the q&a side and trying to help people like you do.
It would be nice to have stickys regarding all the really easy things like. ... No custom recovery for any Verizon S4 unless you're on MDK. Sadly I know many people won't read that either. Not 100% on exactly what it takes to create a sticky, obviously a mod has to, but that would be a start.
And I know the search function works awesome these days too! I think people get excited and are in a hurry to get flashing away and ask silly questions later when their S4 is stuck at the Verizon splash screen or bootlooping.
