Hi everyone,
I dunno whether this have been posted, but I have discovered that, on the latest firmware 2.1.1.a.0.6 unrooted, when the phone set to wcdma/3g only the battery last so long.
After a day (24hrs) of standby and few sms, it has dropped to 75%.
Before I was on 2g/ both with wcdma preferable, 100% to 0% in 12 hrs only without doing anything.
could someone please try to see if it works the same for you.
Nope
because of different hardware and different software, i think it could be that.
i have used (before i jumped to android 2.3) 3G and it goes down too fast. this is the first time im seeing someone using 3G and saying it lasts more..! i have no idea!
I had to try locking the phone to 3G only just to test this, and now the phone goes from 100% to 75% in 11 hours. Not much difference from 3G/2G. 2G only is much better for battery life.
If your battery is zapped within 12 hours, you have some other problem.
after 3days6hrs, there is still 20% of juice left. few sms and about 20minutes of voice call during that period
incredible.

The difference probably has to do with network coverage in your area. I think picking one protocol over the other and not having the phone check both bands save on battery.
In my area, there's plenty of 3G coverage, and setting to 3g only, on my MiniPro 2 has saved on battery.
I suspect if you're in a good 2g coverage area, with spotty or bad 3g, setting to 2g only is probably better.

Hi,
I watched my battery info a moment ago and don't know if those stats are normal.
Cell standby: 42%
- Time on 19h 44m
- Time without a signal 100%
Display: 20%
Android System: 15%
Phone idle: 7%
Android OS: 6%
"Cell standby" seems to use much battery power and my phone signal strengh does not show more than 2 of 5 "bars" in the notification bar (inside buildings). Data network is not enabled.
Now I'm not sure if the antenna of my phone might be defect cause of this high battery usage. I am also sometimes not reachable if people try to call me.

But you miss the key component battery used in that time span .
1% battery used 90% used ???
Your post reads as phone not receiving a signal .Phone sleeping/not in use .
Of the battery used in that time 42% was cell standby NOT 42% of the battery 42 % of the amount used .
more than 2 of 5 "bars" in the notification bar (inside buildings)
No network will guarantee any reception inside buildings . Faraday cage and all that .
Test the phone outside the building first for signal strength .

Cell standby
If you know you wont have signal turn airplane mode on, to save it from searching for a signal all the time, and thus draining some battery.
@Jesmicael: Thanks! I'll watch this thread.
@JJEgan:
My phone uses about 12% battery within 9 hours. No display, no data network, no wlan, no gps, but about 1h of listening to music in this timespan.
I got signal inside buildings most time (with 0-2 bars) but it also happend to me that I was not reachable, even when I placed the phone next to an open window. Outside of the building I have maximum signal.
I did not have any problems with my older LG phone in the same situation.
Of course I know that this 42% are just compared to other battery users
@veyka:My phone is not placed in an isolated cage, and I want to be reachable in this time. Airplane mode is good for saving battery, but not when you want to use a "phone" ^^

Phone gives full signal so nothing wrong with the phones hardware or antenna .
Your alternative is to take the phone to a service centre .

Seeing as you're pretty much putting your phone in stasis for the 9 hours of usage. i think its pretty normal drain. it just looks like the only thing the phone is actually using is the antenna.
Just a wild idea, did you set the phone to GSM/WCDMA auto?

Yes, but does it matter, if I have no data connection enabled? If so, what should I use instead?
Maybe this battery "drain" of the cell standby is normal, when I do not use the phone in this time. On the other hand I am a bit confused, cause due Samsungs official data sheet, the phone should last up to 620h in standby with 3g enabled.
Of course the realistic value is less than 620h, but not 6 times less.
Ive come to realise that this might just be an erroneous stat. I honestly don't think it takes up 100% of my battery. Cell standby has actually deceased since I've flashed villainrom 2.1
any one else have a clue?
I had a theory that since my gsii its actually gt-i9100t not gt-i9100 it might make a little,difference.. whoo knows.. :/

I've come to the conclution that the SG2 is not for use it all day, I have turned it on this morning connected all day to wifi/dataplan and after 14 hours the battery is dead. Will not be able to use it for an entire day.
Pd: wanted to share a pic but seems that the forums are not allowing the png format.

mine lasts all day even with pretty heavy useage mate
you will get about 5 hours screen time on average from this device and battery .
I suggest checking to see if you have killed samsung bloatware that likes to run all the time , installed juice defender which helps a lot , adjusted your start up programs , installed latest firmware or a custom rom like leomar2.1 , if you cant get 3g signal switch to 2g only , switch wifi/gps/bluetooth off when not in use .
Doing all of the above will get you excellent battery life and you will easily last through the day .
The only way i can kill my battery in a day is with some severe gaming sessions and dlna sessions or internet browsing sessions
Battery and phone are fine its the setup thats important
Hope you get it sorted peeps and have a great day too
Look its really normal. You phone will use power in standby, so there is really nothing wrong. The numbers are relative.
I switched to AT&T last week from T-Mobile to get the Note. Overall the AT&T service has been good and the Note is great! My only concern is battery drain in no signal areas.
Specifically, I went to a movie last weekend and the theater was in the basement and there was no signal. At the start of the movie I had about 95% battery but by the end my battery was dead. I'm guessing the battery drained because it was constantly searching for a signal.
Is this common for the Galaxy Note? Is it common for AT&T? I ask because my t-mobile phones never did this. I've been to this theater many times, always had no signal, never had any battery drain on any t-mobile phones (sensation, galaxy s 4g, hd2, my-touch).
FWIW, my Note was completely stock but was rooted. I've since flashed UCLE2 and noticed the same drain in low or no signal areas. I'm sure I'll get suggestions to turn airplane mode on, or something like that. While I appreciate those suggestions I'm trying to determine if this is common to the phone or AT&T. I don't think I should have to switch off data/radio anytime the signal is low for fear of my battery draining in 2 hours.
Thanks!
While the battery does drain more with no signal, due to scanning for a network, as long as there is a signal it should be comparable to full service. That's a constant signal mind you if it goes in and out it is scanning.
I work downtown in a brick building surrounded by high rises, i get 1 bar in my office, my battery lasts me an entire work day.
What I did, spend the money on extended battery
Yeah I know you think 2500 mAH should be pretty good, but isn't, just spend the money on extended battery. Am at 26 hours, with fairly hard use, on Mugen 5400 mAH and have 15% remaining. Does add some depth to it, but that is the price, daughter ordered me case that fits over extended battery can't wait till it gets here. If you are interested can post pics once the case is here so you have idea on overall look.
Would no signal cause that much more drain? In the theater there was no signal. I couldnt browse or make a call. If memory serves there was a circle with a line through it where the 4g symbol would normally be. Still seems like an excessive amount of drain.

Oh yeah, if it is constantly looking for signal, will suck a battery down in no time. Job has me go to places in the mid-west, my supervisor and I just know to put in airplane mode or turn off in certain places or we will have bricks due to quick battery drain.

Interesting. Is this something unique to AT&T's service? I never had this occur with tmous. Maybe I'm just lazy but having to track if I have a signal all the time for fear of my battery draining that fast doesn't seem right.

Not unique to AT&T, but once you figure out where you get no signal it becomes automatic reflex to go into airplane mode or turn off. Would assume since AT&Ts network coverage is larger than Tmobile would not occur as much.
just got one for me and bro.
i got no signal half a day during work and it keep searching for it.
by time i finished, lost about 5-10% most.

Wow. Big difference from what I saw. I think I'll need to go back to the theater now that I'm running UCLE2. I'll install CurrentWidget and see what is going on.
Maybe it was a fluke...hopefully cause I love this phone!
Has anyone managed to find a fix for the cell standby battery drain? As for the people not suffering from it, what rom and kernel are you using?

HyperGalaxy with siyah kernel = the perfect combination....so fast with an abundance of free ram and no signal battery drain

has become much better since i flashed XXALF2 baseband and Franco r2 kernel. Standby (mobile data on) drop was around 4-5% per hour before, now its around 2.5% per hour
Stock LF2 no problem .

Cell standby drain cannot be confirmed by all people and is related to the 3G setup, antennas and location of your provider.
Here the network show a very bad case of hopping when switching to/from IDLE (fast dormancy) which drains the battery in no time.
I'm currently running Juicedefender Ultimate beta with AOSP helper which switches to 2G when the screen is off and no data is transferred. Only issue is that you'll loose connectivity twice (3G->2G and 2G->3G) for a very short time but other than that it seems to work fine and has solved my battery drain problem.
I've been used to switch back to 2G as soon as I don't need 3G/HSPA with my S1 as it's drain is even worse, so it's no big change for me

i conquer on this.
i do use now 2x battery saver, which does the same thing as the juicedefender, but even before that, my battery is very well managed. I would assume that the fact of cell standby being on the top of the list when you havent been using the phone for anything else is logical to be there. That IS what will be draining the battery. I would only see the problem on those handsets that this drain is not within acceptable limits, ie, whatever people have measured as normal drain for these circomstances.
I use juicedefender and with the latest update the battery drain is less than 2% an hour, im happy with that
Ive always found by the the biggest drain in standby being data always being on
That's not totally correct. Data is not what is actually draining your battery (at least it never was for me).
It's 3G not being in IDLE due to sending/receiving data, fast dormancy not being (properly) supported by the network or the network provider having a badly configured/balanced network.
If you switch to 2G, you'll find that your phone can run 2 days with data enabled if not heavily used.
Big exception seems to be Exchange's ActiveSync which is, when an account is configured (whether enabled or not) always top-of-the-list in BetterBatteryStats. But well... Exchange sucks anyway =)
I should have typed 3g data, this single act of letting the 3g connection be managed by juicedefender doubled my battery life
Yeh i have no idea for the technical reason but managing the 3g connection makes a big difference to me
hmm i am not aware of the actual network causing problems with the drain issue during 3g/2g signal. I only knew that when the signal is bad in general or you get no signal at all, then the phone is wasting too much energy trying to log on to a network itself.
i have the 3g swap on my 2x battery saver to rotate every 5min when the screen is off. Its the smallest amount of time you can apply. However i dont know if im the average phone user, as i see here lots of people doing a lot more things with their handsets during a day.
Not so sure about the 3G data thing but I'm only using the phone on wifi with data disabled and I still got the battery drain.

Wifi is another issue, especially when you have the 5Ghz band enabled and your phone hops between both. Try checking if your Wifi's channel is crowded and configuring the router to another less crowded one.
Then force your phone to use either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz band depending on your setup; drain should've gone away.

Hi !
I wanted to update the ROM I use (Omega Stock), and I saw posts saying that they lasted like 50h on battery. I only last 8 or 9 hours...
I installed the last version of the ROM, I use the Siyah Kernel and I used the settings to save battery, my H+ is not activated all the time and I calibrated my battery..
What should I do ?
Thanks

If you want 50 hours don't use the phone.
Sent from the little guy
The 50 hour screenshots may be because they didn't use the phone. Tell them to post screenshots for the screen on time, then you can compare.
You have to remember that each of us use the device differently. Different apps, different tweaks, different sims, different places, not to mention signal strength you get in your area all affect battery life. Some dont use the s2 for calling, but use it for 3G only, so that would give a better battery life. Some use wifi and no 3G, which again gives a better result.
Also, those posters MAY have a bigger battery (2000 mAh ones are available).

If I remember well, the screen was on like 4 hours.
I don't use it neither to call, or not often...
I activate 3G only when I need it, but I often listen some music.
Also, my operator's 3G, "Free Mobile", in France, goes through another operator's 3G by Roaming, maybe that drains battery ?

Hey does anyone know what IPService is or does? My battery seems to be draining pretty quickly on my One. When I look at app sucker on gsam battery monitor, it shows that the #1 drainer is IPService with 17.8%. Keep Awake is 11.5 hours and 27 minutes of CPU usage. Any ideas?
After IPService killing my battery for a few days, today it's not the problem. Now the kernel is Showing keep awake at 45 minutes after five hours of just sitting. I would just like my battery to make it through the day haha.
i had the same issue. im pretty sure thats part of the wifi calling. i noticed it more when i changed the wifi calling to cellular network preferred. set it back to wifi preferred and got my great battery life back. i'd rather have it on cel preferred because ive been getting text messages hung up till i take it off wifi and that seemed to work. but i'll take the battery life over missing a few texts here and there.

How long battery life do you guys have??
My Tmobile HTC one can only last like 15hrs max, with text messaging and some social chatting tool like whatsapp and wechat!
I also had ipservices drain my battery.
Turning of Google Now, since I don't use it really, fixed it.
I have had Wifi Calling set to Cellular Preffered the whole time as it will drop a call when wifi is weak.
