Updated my Mini to 2.1 from 4 days now-
Rooted using z4rot just to load setCPU.
2.1 in general is not so much different from 1.6, at least for normal user.
No significant performance improvement, no killer new functions. Just a "fine tuning work" in my opinion.
The bad come in just 2 areas.
1- Antenna reception.
Using 1.6 where I live I have a steady 3g network. Using 2.1 some time I discover that I'm under GPRS (i think the H icon mean GPRS, I'm voda so at least in Italy no EDGE network)
The antenna sensitivity is whorst than before...
2- Battery
Battery life is TERRIBLE using 1.6 I can go for an entire day (at least 8am-6pm)
Now in a few hours (4-5 not more) I have to recharge.
BT off, Wifi off.
Anyone experienced such decay of battery?
Can be the rooting process?
Any suggestion?
I have to try to switch off 3g but I dont like to use the slow GPRS so im not inclined in doing it1
H is HSPA which is 3G and others fast networks. If you had GPRS there would be G on your phone But i was confused too first time.
Battery seems same like before. I browse net, play games and listen music alot, so i need to recharge every night anyway. I'd guess some app eat it and maybe after some restarts it will settle. Synchronizing g-mail with phone ate alot of battery for me... but after a while its ok.
Ok, thanks for the H tips. So "H" is better that 3g!
Wow.
For battery life: yes I use google service so is always in sync
I think is one of the whorst design flaw of Android.
I like to be able to "open" sync in time I choose, for ex 10 min. in a windows of 30 min, ecc.
No software on the market do this automatically and ia polished way.
Can be set CPU causing more problem that the battery can save?
Disable Background data
Switch off Wifi Bt when not in need
then charge it when around 20% battaery
Doing this my battery life now is 2-3 days
Earlier with 1.6 it was 1 day max
wifi and bt are alredy off. background data?
turning that off is like to use a nokia of some years ago..
I depend on gmail etc.
intresting the tips of 20%, so you not charge at end of battery?
just when is arrived at 20%?
how it can have such effect?
with setcpu my battery now lasts for 20-24h, keeping minimal frequency at 122 and with ondemand scaling.
bt on for 2-3h, wifi on only when needed, sync always on but, the most important, only 2g. 3g uses a lot of your juice, use it only when needed. On 2g you still receiving emails and gtalk/tweets, and for an entire day. With 3g my battery lasts for 8h only.
ok, Ill give 2g a try.
Unfortunately Voda Italy has no EDGE at all...so if no 3g we are stuck using VERY VERY SLOW gprs.
i just use like 1:30 hrs of screen (on) AT 50%, i always use 2G network, background data conection like 2:00 Hrs, BT OFF, GPS OFF, WiFi OFF, All Syncronization OFF, some phone call (like 5 min per day), and i use set CPU to set the phone on demand between 122~600 MHz, with lucky i get 18 Hrs. of battery life...
Any advice?

I think 18 hours is Ok. Difference maybe is due to screen brightness; I use mine at 0%....
my battery last much longer with 2.1, i did a test, i put my phone in airplane mode overnight after charging it to 100%, unplugged the charger and went to sleep, checked it in the morning 8 hours later and it was STILL on 100%!
put it back to normal mode and the battery drains 1-2% per hour
Yeah, airplane mode is just the same with powering off, especially if you left it while you sleep dude...
Sent from my U20i using XDA App
I keep background data off and Data Traffic disabled and get about 1.5 days battery life. However, in Airplane mode, after 2.1 update, I have observed battery drains faster than 1.6.
^^ Use the Indian Firmware dude
its much better than flashed ones
Also charge phone when around 20% to get max battery life
Background data ON, Data Traffic enabled, live wallpaper (circuit board), Opera and mail one hour, BT 1 hour WIFI OFF, 1-2 hour call and sometime more.
24 to 32 hour Battery life.
I use Juice Defender and Set CPU.Battery charge when around 10 - 20 %.
^^Thats great
Calling for 30min decreased my battery life by 15-17% :O
My mini reboots every time i plug the in to charge, i saw there are some ppl with the same problem but i cant find a fix.
i did install the Nordic build.prop but repaired my phone when the update for my side came out. Can that be the problem?
I find the only thing now that really drains my Battery fast is playing games (Angry birds will drain my Battery in about 2-3 hours) otherwise.. if I don't play games my Battery lasts about 2 days. (up to a max of 3 days)
(I listen to about 3-4 hours of Music (over BT) each day, have Wifi on all the time I am at home, and use just a little bit of 3G when I am out (but I turn it off when its not needed)
Don't drain the battery to 0% this is really bad for Lithium battery's better to do top ups... and use USB to charge rather than the wall charger (lower charge rate will give you longer performance)
Run Launcher Pro Home screen replacement (I think its better than the stock one)
some software can really drain the battery fast, it tends to vary from person to person but I installed Nimbuzz and my battery went down like a sinking ship.
hope that helps..

When you say "Repaired your phone" you mean you put the build prop back to your old Kit code then Repaired with PC comp/SEUS? if you left the build.prop file as Nordic then you would probably still be on Nordic..
I ran nordic for a while and had no issues at all, then used Bin4ry's flash tool and a downloaded firmware to get my phone back to the correct Kit, I found it easier than playing with the build prop, its worth a try anyway..

Ok let me try explain .. i changed the build.prop to get the update but it did not work for me. So i downloaded Bin4ry's flashtool and software a flashed 2.1 on my phone.
I am on world generic (bought the phone in UK unbranded), when the update was availeble via SEUS i just plugged it in and did a repair, still with the same build.prop i edited.
I presumed it got flashed away with the repair i did
with the flash from Bin4ry an the repair from SEUS i got this reboot bug, so now i have no idea what to do next.
How do i know what kit i am on?

Hi Everyone,
I am disappointed with the battery of Optimus One.
My Battery in Standby (GPS/Wi-fi/3g/Sync/Screen, ALL OFF and without USE ), does not last even 20 hours.
I have an application that shows what application is consuming more battery power and the "phone in standby mode" takes up 95%!
What are your experiences with this battery?
Mine has problems?
Thx
I bought it one week ago and the battery last one day with no problem (and it's not at its full "potential" since is new). When did you buy the phone?
I bought it 2 weeks ago
Using a custom rom you won't be disappointed with your battery no more...
I have openOptimus Rom with Franco kernel 15. I am at 85% battery after 14 hours. The phone has been pretty much idle.
Only 2G networks
Data disabled
Wi-fi on
Auto-sync on
Overclocked 480/729 interactive (interactive may not be optimal)
I'm using franco kernel v15.1 with devoid.franco, i'll try do update do devoid.froyo.final today.

Hi, what is data disabled? and how to put only 2g networks?
20 hours on idling? Send it back for repair/replace. Mine will last days if left idling (about 1% every two hours)
When I travel I turn all data connections off (Bluetooth, wifi, gps, data) and it lasts about 3days

Here are some potential things to turn off that might make the battery last longer. They are all in the settings app. I do not do all these since I find that some things might make the battery last longer but reduce the usefulness of the phone.
Setting/Display/Brightness
Setting/wireless & networks/wi-fi off
Setting/wireless & networks/bluetooth off*
Setting/wireless & networks/mobile networks/use only 2G networks*
Setting/wireless & networks/mobile networks/data enabled off* (I have this turned off all the time as I do not have a data plan.)
The items * I have off unless I am actively using them. I also overclock my Optimus. I think that this probably gives me a longer battery life, since it is running at 480 when I am not using it. I suppose if I was desperate, I would undercloack the phone (min 480 and max 480).
What version of Android are you running? 2.2 or 2.2.1/2.2.2?
When you click on Cell Standby, how much Time Without Signal does it show?
follow these steps and i think ull have what you want..
go to battery use and click on cell standby : then see time without signal. how much does it show ? if its above even one percent (unless uve mannually put ur device in airplane mode) i know the problem.
go to settings >wireless & network settings > mobile network > mark 2G only (if u are not using 3G) cause the cell might spen loads of battery searching for 3G.. then go to network operators and search for (mannually) and select ur own network provider.. like mine is airtel.. then let your battery run down totally.. completly to zero. then recharge your phone to full without any break.. this is called recaliberation. then see how much your battery lasts..
remember to turn off bletooth, wifi, internet, all ! while the phone is idle and you wont be using it for sometime. or, if you wont be doing or getting any calls or sms, consider switching to airplane mode..
you might be getting less battery if ur in a area with weak signal strength.. this makes the phone go wilder to search for signal. in these conditions, switch to airplane mode if you can . thatll save a lot of battery. and also during night if you want to.
dont hesitate to click the thanx if i helped !
EDIT: and ya every thing that the person after me 'Y.u.v.i' said.. though those are normal things and brightness level is most important..
and about francos kernel, ive had many f/c s with mik's cm7 beta 6.2.5 ..i prefer its own kernel , though dunno for other roms.. u might wanna try it.. ill try myself too..
yes ..few step here u can try
1.reduce ur brightness level to minimum ...
2. use 2g signal only.
3. turn off all extra connection like wi-fi , Bluetooth, auto sync , data.
4. use advance task killer and set it to auto kill app aftr every 30 mints.
5.automatic screen time to 30 sec.
6.if u r using custom ROM use Franco 15.1 kernal . and wipe battery after charging it up-to 100%
use thanks if u like my post ...
I did all the tips posted here. Let us now see what happens

I'm using 2.2
7% without signal.
Sorry for the dumb question (about 2.2 or 2.2.x) - I didn't read the first page carefully enough.
Try this: reboot, then enable airplane mode, lock your screen and leave it like that for about a minute, unlock screen, disable airplane mode.
Are you still seeing Time Without Signal? (of course, after a few hours, not straight away)
EDIT:
DON'T do any of the following:
- reduce brightness to 1%... come on, be serious! you really like squinting at the screen? screen brightness doesn't affect battery life that much anyway...
- don't use task killers! it doesn't matter if you have little RAM - it's there to be used. I will not go into details about this (there's whole threads about it), but trust me!
You could also try monitoring your apps with https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zomut.watchdoglite&feature=search_result and see if any of them start behaving wildly and keep your CPU awake.
Another thing would be to try Nessy Hypnos2... I had great battery life when using that ROM! If you're still experiencing the same battery drain with a fresh install of Hypnos, then I'm sorry to tell you but you'll probably have to send your phone for repairs.
I ended up recharging the phone two hours ago and it is at 91%.
Was 9% in 2 Hours - 4,5% per Hour. Very Bad...
...with nothing in use.
Only 2g networks
wi-fi/dates/sync/bluetooth ( ALL OFF )
Screen OFF (black, with -0% of brigth, because he is OFF)
I install Battery Monitor Widget that estimates my uses of battery in:
18h52m of Discharge (100->0%)
and 5h of charg in USB and 3h of charge inc AC.
I'm installing watchdog now, to see if have an App draining battery.
EDIT:
But I do not think that's because I have an application that shows the the CPU clock in%.
480MHz = 80%
729Mh = 20% or less
and another that shows the applications that consume battery
and Cell Standby = 90%

I got the same. My phone is also on the same settings, same rom, same kernel. Battery life was awesome some days ago, but now I experience average battery drain, I think I need to callibrate my phone as well. :/ I will do it probably after flashing void.final.
Hi everyone,
I dunno whether this have been posted, but I have discovered that, on the latest firmware 2.1.1.a.0.6 unrooted, when the phone set to wcdma/3g only the battery last so long.
After a day (24hrs) of standby and few sms, it has dropped to 75%.
Before I was on 2g/ both with wcdma preferable, 100% to 0% in 12 hrs only without doing anything.
could someone please try to see if it works the same for you.
Nope
because of different hardware and different software, i think it could be that.
i have used (before i jumped to android 2.3) 3G and it goes down too fast. this is the first time im seeing someone using 3G and saying it lasts more..! i have no idea!
I had to try locking the phone to 3G only just to test this, and now the phone goes from 100% to 75% in 11 hours. Not much difference from 3G/2G. 2G only is much better for battery life.
If your battery is zapped within 12 hours, you have some other problem.
after 3days6hrs, there is still 20% of juice left. few sms and about 20minutes of voice call during that period
incredible.

The difference probably has to do with network coverage in your area. I think picking one protocol over the other and not having the phone check both bands save on battery.
In my area, there's plenty of 3G coverage, and setting to 3g only, on my MiniPro 2 has saved on battery.
I suspect if you're in a good 2g coverage area, with spotty or bad 3g, setting to 2g only is probably better.

has become much better since i flashed XXALF2 baseband and Franco r2 kernel. Standby (mobile data on) drop was around 4-5% per hour before, now its around 2.5% per hour
Stock LF2 no problem .

Cell standby drain cannot be confirmed by all people and is related to the 3G setup, antennas and location of your provider.
Here the network show a very bad case of hopping when switching to/from IDLE (fast dormancy) which drains the battery in no time.
I'm currently running Juicedefender Ultimate beta with AOSP helper which switches to 2G when the screen is off and no data is transferred. Only issue is that you'll loose connectivity twice (3G->2G and 2G->3G) for a very short time but other than that it seems to work fine and has solved my battery drain problem.
I've been used to switch back to 2G as soon as I don't need 3G/HSPA with my S1 as it's drain is even worse, so it's no big change for me

i conquer on this.
i do use now 2x battery saver, which does the same thing as the juicedefender, but even before that, my battery is very well managed. I would assume that the fact of cell standby being on the top of the list when you havent been using the phone for anything else is logical to be there. That IS what will be draining the battery. I would only see the problem on those handsets that this drain is not within acceptable limits, ie, whatever people have measured as normal drain for these circomstances.
I use juicedefender and with the latest update the battery drain is less than 2% an hour, im happy with that
Ive always found by the the biggest drain in standby being data always being on
That's not totally correct. Data is not what is actually draining your battery (at least it never was for me).
It's 3G not being in IDLE due to sending/receiving data, fast dormancy not being (properly) supported by the network or the network provider having a badly configured/balanced network.
If you switch to 2G, you'll find that your phone can run 2 days with data enabled if not heavily used.
Big exception seems to be Exchange's ActiveSync which is, when an account is configured (whether enabled or not) always top-of-the-list in BetterBatteryStats. But well... Exchange sucks anyway =)
I should have typed 3g data, this single act of letting the 3g connection be managed by juicedefender doubled my battery life
Yeh i have no idea for the technical reason but managing the 3g connection makes a big difference to me
hmm i am not aware of the actual network causing problems with the drain issue during 3g/2g signal. I only knew that when the signal is bad in general or you get no signal at all, then the phone is wasting too much energy trying to log on to a network itself.
i have the 3g swap on my 2x battery saver to rotate every 5min when the screen is off. Its the smallest amount of time you can apply. However i dont know if im the average phone user, as i see here lots of people doing a lot more things with their handsets during a day.
Not so sure about the 3G data thing but I'm only using the phone on wifi with data disabled and I still got the battery drain.

Wifi is another issue, especially when you have the 5Ghz band enabled and your phone hops between both. Try checking if your Wifi's channel is crowded and configuring the router to another less crowded one.
Then force your phone to use either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz band depending on your setup; drain should've gone away.

I've been seeing a lot of people that get a great battery life, but i haven't been able to get above 20 hrs.
What did you mod to get that battery life?
I even downgrade to GB to check if my battery life improved, and yeah, i manage to get a couple hours more, but not even close to the ones in the screenshots of some roms.
I normally use the screen around 2 hours, data enabled, wifi off and music for a couple hours.
i'm running neutrino 2.9 and I can get arround 2 days of battery time with about 5 hours screen time. But I turn everything off when i'm not using it (mobile internet, wifi etc.)
you can use neutrino or mrom. this two roms are best for battery life. i ised both and always get 2days of use with 5-6h of display on.

Do you have data enabled?
I used to use the latest stable CM7 release (Ba2tF) and would get between 2 and 3 days battery life... i kept everything off when not using it, like data, wifi, GPS, etc., and did pretty average stuff like looking at the news, emails and occasional cut the rope. I also had it underclocked to 800MHz and very slightly undervolted, and had setcpu keep the processor at 216MHz when the screen was off, because as I recall the kernel I used didn't have very clever governor options...
So you could try underclocking, from my experience having it run at 1.3GHz didn't make it much smoother than at 800MHz (GB was very laggy), so I just went ahead and kept it at 800Hz unless charging, and like I said 216MHz with the screen off (which is something the governor should ideally do)
216 mhz - 715 mhz thats all

as mentioned before mrom and the neutrino rom are the best ones for battery life.
there is also a alternate kernel for cm7 and gb which is basically a optimized faux kernel...
Hi, with normal use (2H GPS, 5H Wifi, 4-5H 3G, eBook, and some phone calls yes ..), Mmontuori kernel #43, Nottachtrix 1.3.1, and green Power free, I have between 35-40 hours of battery.
actually i have only 2h screen on (either wifi/3g running) and my battery is down to 42% already.
i have the mrom running with faux kernel
Another factor is the strength of your provider's signal. The lower the strength of the signal, the more battery the phone will consume connecting to it. In my country, the signal is very poor and weak, so no matter what i do, i couldn't get more than 15hrs of battery life, when i had my Atrix thats it. I had data enabled all the time, but 2g, no OC, little UV and i got like 2hrs screen time and 14hrs total.

The SV one. It's the best.
Send from my Atrix 4G
I use custom brightness levels on CM7 and it's usually at 1 for the screen and 4 for buttons. Bluetooth off. GPS off unless I need it. Only programs waking the phone up are Google sync and Talk.
Why do you need more than a day of battery life? Only time I ran out was when I slept over a friend's house without a charger. I should've put it in airplane mode while I was sleeping.
some case here
what help me was to disable wi-fi and network (air mode) when I am in the subway to save a lot of battery
I always have wifi on and my phone gets 2 days of medium to heavy use. It shuts itself off when I'm not using the phone. I use a 1880mah battery so u might have the other one which is 1500mah if im not mistaken. I use MROM but I never really had any battery problems. You might want to buy another battery
Yeah it might be your battery. They have cheap ones on Ebay
