I had my Infuse stolen last week and I ordered an unlocked international version of the I9100 to replace it. I'm on AT&T.
How will I receive OS updates? Should I just stick with the stock Gingerbread that it comes with, or update it? Should I look to install the AT&T version of Gingerbread?
Thanks!

Hello all,
Apologies is this has come up in the forums before but I hve looked through and couldn't find an answer.
Basically I bought a used G2 from ebay that was locked (& branded) to T-Mobile. I had it rooted/unlocked and now am on a Vodafone 30 day contract. It is currently running android 1.5.
I have not been prompted by the OTA update. I am unsure whether I use Vodafone or T-Mobile software for the update, or whether there is maybe a generic HTC version available? I want to make sure that the phone is left open to work on Vodafone after the updgrade also.
If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated,
Thank you very much in advance!!
Keith
If you're going to stick with the official releases just flash the WWE version (which you should be able to find a link on here somewhere). Bear in mind that this will permanently lock you into v2.1 official releases as there is no known method to gain root on 2.1 as of yet and custom rom's will be out of the question.
The Vodafone and T-Mobile versions of the software mainly contain advertisement rather than actual changes.
duno if it helps but i was gettin pissed waiting for the t-mobile ota update, so i created a gold card using the method in another section, downgraded to the generic rom then run both ota updates when my phone promted me (setting my date 1 year ahead) i did not like the 2.1 as it was running peep and teh rest that i never use, i just reflashed it with the generic 1.5 rom i used originaly, installed flashrec and a recovery image, and is now running, happly, vallian 12. i was originaly on the latest t-mobile firmware.
duno if that helps? or was it a cooked version of 2.1 it downloaded via the ota system?
i is still happly rooted.
I just got my Galaxy last week.
I see it is firmware 2.3.4
Has AT&T offered/sent the 2.3.5 update? If so, how do I get it? I have not seen any notification on my phone about it.
Also, I rooted my phone.
When I get the 2.3.5 update will my phone still be rooted after if I install 2.3.5 from AT&T?
Is it possible to update through Kies Mini? That is what I used for my Samsung Vibrant T959. But kies does not seem able to connnect to my AT&T galaxy s ii SGH-I777
OR do I need to root it again?
2.3.5 has not been officially announced.
the main reason for the update is the fix for the lock bug.
the 2.3.5 that is available im not sure if its leaked or user developed but its not Official.
Perception ROM is your best bet at the moment.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1299705
to my knowledge it is the only rom thats based off 2.3.5 and of course, like every other rom its rooted=)
I think we'll see more 4.0 roms sooner than we will any 2.3.5's if you want a higher os then flash CM7 and have 2.3.7
I ordered an unlocked atrix 4g new from amazon, 331$ i think i made a good deal, but the catch was that i received the german version (O2 operator) and now i'm not able to upgrade to stock gingerbread firmware, so, is possible to make some kind of downgrade to any AT&T version so in the future i could update normally to gingerbread and ics?
About my atrix:
Version.4.4.20.MB860.O2.en.DE
Android version: 2.2.2
And yes, is rooted and bootloader is unlocked.
Thanks in advace...
How can I download the latest stock firmware if I buy the AT&T unlocked version and use it in another country? also would I be able to use a custom firmware on it?
You probably can't use any of the custom firmware currently out for International version, the CPU/RAM configuration is different. But you could probably still update the stock firmware using Kies.
Thanks, yea I guess I will be waiting for other developers to tinker with the AT&T firmware and I have to learn how to apply it as I have never used Android before
I'm considering getting one of these for my daughter from UK Tesco.com. I understand that the international version Galaxy S Wifi 5.0 was originally released with Froyo 2.2., so even buying a new one now does it come out of the box with froyo installed? Also was it ever officially updated to Gingerbread 2.3.X either OTA or by Kies or are there only custom gingerbread roms available?
Thanks

i got mine from amazon with GB which was officially updated by Samsung. if yours comes with froyo, then just do an ota update
I bought my Galaxy s wifi 5.0 from Amazon and it came with 2.2 and there was no update to 2.3. I had to flash a ROM to get 2.3 and then 4.0.4. If you buy the US variant it come pre loaded with 2.3.
The lastest firmware of the intl player 5.0 is XXLPL ( France )
Product Code: YP-G70CWXEF
Latest firmware: G70XXKPL/G70XXKPL/G70XXKPL/G70XXKPL

You can use Check Fus Downloader to download this firnware
in my optinion , this firmware + rj's kernel v14 make the device work like a charm , super smooth , better than any custom rom i've been used before :good:
Really? Mine lags like a sucker! I'm looking for a stock kernel to see if it works any better!
Gingerbread was released everywhere except the UK. However people from other european countries have given us the gingerbread stock rom, so you can get gingerbread easily.
Mine is loaded with 2.2 Froyo, but I managed to upgrade it to Gingerbread. You can always flash another ROM if you're not satisfied with your stock/current rom.
