Old news, actually, and it's useless since you're out of pocket for the full cost and they'll reimburse you whenever (could be weeks, months later). Motorola blew it with this ICS fiasco and screwing people in the process. It's already been worked out that the so-called $100 rebate thing works out to like $25 or so in the long run, and it's just a joke overall.
You'll note that page linked above says "we’re planning to roll out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to most of our devices first offered for sale in 2011 or later." and was just updated today, yet there is another page that's been up for weeks now that says the same thing but doesn't use the words "most of our" so, it's Motorola being stupid again. And it's not some damned typo either, but they can't be held to their own word and I and many other people are simply done with them for the most part.
I own a Photon and it'll be the last Motorola hardware I ever put actual cash into owning because of their flipflopping and basically lying to people over this whole situation.
If they want to give me a RAZR MAXX HD for all this crap, fine, I'd be happy to own one I suppose (even in spite of the many failings it has), but that's a foregone conclusion at this point.
Also, they changed it again apparently: originally it was going to be cash back to you in the form of a check and now they added that second section:
Provided in the form of a Verizon Wireless Gift Card, Motorola Visa Prepaid Card, carrier credit, or other equivalent at Motorola’s sole discretion.

If it ain't actual cash in the pocket, it's pretty much useless to me.
Now it looks like we could only buy photon q if you stick with sprint

motorola no more
This is total BS. They came up with win-win solution. Sell more new phones making $100 less in profit on each, and make it a lame excuse for eliminating upgrade development costs. This is such a blatant disregard of the existing customers. How is it possible that a phone released on August 19, 2011 became and stayed outdated exactly 2 months later, when ICS was announced on Oct 19, 2011
---------- Post added at 08:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:18 PM ----------
Funny... I just posted a comment on the motorola-posts-list-of-phones-not-receiving-jelly-bean-confirms-which-phones-will-get-the-update page of the droid-life . com site. I said that JB upgrade table looks like ICS upgrade table a year ago. The one that got edited in Q3 2012 with Photon 4g no longer in it. My post stayed visible for 30 seconds and then was promptly removed
No real surprise, they can't even get the entire division on the same page, literally: one place says "most phones offered in 2011 and later" (which by using the word "most" gives them some room to maneuver with) and another page says "phones offered in 2011 and later" which means every phone they released in 2011 and up to this point in time.
That really irks me for some reason, it's the literal interpretation of the left side of the mouth doesn't know what the right side is saying.
Why even worry about that BS buyback program? If you have a MoPho, you're on Sprint and you have nothing coming from Motof**k. And the fact is, if you really want ca$h for your device, you'll get $150+ from eBay. Instead of whini g, we should do what we can to supportmymoto.com

Well, no, I'm not on Sprint, and many people like me aren't either considering the Photon is unlockable for domestic GSM use in the US (even though Sprint really didn't/doesn't like that happening). I use T-Mobile without issues, and I didn't get this phone from Sprint either so for me, Sprint is 100% irrelevant in this situation.
As for selling it, I've got mine listed on craigslist for $100 right now because I don't deal with eBay/PayPal and their ripoff tactics, plus I'd prefer cash in the hand but, still no bites. Sooner or later someone will most likely contact me about it - I mean a dual core smartphone for $100... what's not to love?
I'm just curious as to whether I'll be able to trade my Photon for $100 toward a Verizon Moto phone; if they'll allow me to get the rebate while crossing carriers. I'm done with Sprint in March when my contract comes up, but I still love Motorola. Not even sure if I'd need to root, as the main two reasons I root are for free hotspot and titanium backup, and I didn't even use titanium backup last time I went back to stock. I do love the Razr Maxx HD for its battery life and screen, and I still like Moto for the quality and reception.
^ Motorola doesn't care if you cross carriers. You just have to send in your Photon. So as long as you buy the new phone, they don't care. I'd leave under good terms, they might not honor the rebate if the ESN is bad. So yes, you could trade it towards a Verizon phone.

Not when your phone has cracked housing and scratched screen and you are very definitely in a Verizon area with not a lot of Sprint customers (Arkansas used to be Alltel headquarters until VZ bought them). I've seen photons nearly identical to the condition of mine on ebay for 125. I won't be able to trade mine in until March when my contract is up and the phone will devalue further. At that time, if the phone is still in the same condition it is now, I might be able to get a few extra bucks off ebay or maybe Craigslist if I get someone stupid, but the convenience of just handing it to the VZ person and getting my 100 bucks off a RAZR MAXX HD beats the effort behind making an extra 10 to 20 bucks.

Just my personal taste... the Photon is my favorite phone I've ever had, and I have always liked the Moto smartphones (except for the QWERTY's) but I couldn't get them before because I was on Sprint. I didn't like my wife's HTC, and I didn't like my Epic 4g, my wife's Nexus S 4G, or my friend's Epic Touch. All had signal issues. The Photon is awesome with reception, and my buddy's Moto phones have always been the same.
I don't feel so betrayed by the lack of upgrade to ICS. The phone works fine until my contract is up and I can get away from Sprint.
I have been seeing a lot of these HTC One T-Mobile Branded phones unlocked on eBay in the last few days, I am wondering if these would work with T-Mobiles 1700 band but look at the description, it appears to be just a DE version but not sure why it says T-Mobile
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HTC-One-64G...1268845615?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item3a80ca502f

1. There is no 64gb Tmo phone. This is likely a dev edition.
2. The specs on the sale do not list AWS. Therefore this is not capable of HSPA+. It will work on TMO, but only on EDGE unless you live in a "refarmed" area or one of the very few LTE areas.
EDIT: The big question is where he got the box. I suspect this is not the box the phone would ship in - if there even is a phone. Zero feedback on this seller is suspicious.

Well, like I said, I been seeing more of these T-Mobile Unlocked Phones lately, I would buy one and then just open a case about deceiving and fraud but rather not go through the hassle.
I saw a few 32gb ones
It seems really likely that if the phone is in fact the T-Mobile version in the picture, the seller just posted the wrong specs with it. Maybe they're trying to mislead people too with the "64 GB" claim in the heading. But I see a lot of sellers on eBay who just copy and paste specs from somewhere and aren't really describing the specific phone that they have in their hands. A lot of sellers just don't know that much about what they're selling.
So if you get the phone that's in the picture, I would expect it to just by the regular T-Mobile variant with 32 GB. There's no magical eBay source of 64 GB T-Mobile HTC Ones that don't actually exist anywhere else.
And as another said, for something so expensive I would never buy from someone with zero feedback.
The frequency bands listed suggests that it's m7_u rather than any of the LTE variants, but like others said, the listing is just sketchy. I mean, there are two possibilities: the seller has posted a mismatched picture and description, or has unearthed a unique T-Mobile variant never seen anywhere else (and still has the description wrong). I'll leave it as an exercise to the reader to guess which of those is more likely...
My friend bought one advertised as so but just the 32gb
I ll update when he gets its
update: my friend got the phone, it was advertised as UNlocked factory 32gb T-Mobile branded, worked with T-Mobile right away (4g and all ) didnt come with a sim card though so he had to cut his

The only way I know of is to insert a different SIM card from another carrier. Also, was the phone really sealed?
If you live in a "refarmed" area, the 4G icon is going to show up in the status bar regardless of if it is 1900 refarmed or HSPA+.
EDIT: Removed some "Unlock" text, since that referred to the bootloader, not SIM. Sorry for those who read it first!

He paid 50 bucks more than me but he didn't go through the hassle I went throught. And it's supposedly unlocked we have yet to tried that out. My brother in law has a att version. Going to see if we can today.

Hey guys. So I've been noticing these last few days that my charging port seems to be a bit loose. I drops the connection quite easily. Definitely not the cables, I've spent some time testing. What should I do? Is there any sites selling this part? I know it's an easy repair. Or would T-Mobile swap it in store? I really want to avoid getting a refurbished phone (might be too early) and this definitely isn't anything I caused so don't think I should pay a insurance fee. Just kinda freaking out cause my devices usually never have any problems. Lol help... ???

I wonder if it's worth buying a used s5 to trade in, but again.. I've always had to buy my phones through 3rd parties so I wonder how it works.
also if I buy the note 8 I wonder how I'd go about returning the note 7 for the refund since I bought it from an ebay vendor.
As I was told. Canada will get the promo as well next week. Rep said to wait 3-4 more days. So hopefully we can get something good.
And Spain? I'm from here and I don't have any news about that discount..
I'm buying an lg g4 refurbished for $85 on eBay. Using that for the $425 trade in.

Well, the website is asking for proof of purchase or an Email. I assume the email is if you bought it thru them. The proof of purchase is going to be hard to come by this many months out.
Does this upgrade apply to only those who paid the full price for the phone? I was on a Verizon payment plan, and they have cut off my service now for the last 4-5 months, but I still pay my phone bill - waiting for this type of an offer.
Does anyone think they accept the online order I did thru Verizon and a copy of my first months bill showing the payment for a new device on my line? I don't want to start the process, have an issue midway and then be locked out when I try to restart or resubmit.
Anyone have this type of experience with the Note 7? This is exactly what I hoped Samsung would do. I would be very happy to get a $400+ discount for my troubles and no service.

I believe this is for Note 7 owners only. Why would they give Note 4 or any other Galaxy phone users who did not have any issues, or service interruptions such a deal? That does not make sense to me. The only other device I would even consider would be the S7. Many people opted to downgrade to the S7 when they recalled the Note 8.

I ordered mine on Sep 8, waited anxiously refreshing the "My Orders" page obsessively, waiting for "Starts Shipping September 15" to change. Well, the 15th came up and it changed to "Shipped" at around 5AM, and got to my door at 1PM via Purolator. Insanely quick, although it only came from Toronto and I live just a few cities away.
Phone has been pretty awesome so far. There is some slight bezel bleed in certain angles, but nothing compared to how bad it was on my Note 7.
Battery life is a little above average for all other phones I've ever had, I used to obsess over max usage but really don't care anymore. I am however, missing a rooted phone, and am considering selling this phone once I receive the promo stuff, and then ordering the F model.
One thing I did notice in comparison with the Note 5, is the S-Pen is much better to write/draw with because it has considerably more grip. When you first start using it, you won't feel it, but it will happen once the tip softens up a little bit. Also, with the S-Pen button having a hold-to-erase function, I found it pretty annoying that there isn't a clear indication as to which side the button is on. I can't really complain in that regard though lol.
I work in mobile and didn't have much time on my phone today, but throughout the 12hrs so far, I've gotten adequate usage. Most of it was light browsing, drawing, games, and then a couple hours of video watching. All while brightness was 70%, GPS, BT, LTE on, FHD resolution with a density of 530 (thats why everything is tiny). So this usage is definitely considered light.

Looks like all Canadian units may be "Network Unlocked" out of the box. I bought mine from the Samsung Store and the employee noted that while my phone would still brand to the first SIM inserted, I would no longer need to input an Unlock Code to allow other SIM cards to be used. I tested this and he was right. The box also shows "NU" on the side of the box. I brought this up on RFD, and another member, who purchased their phone carrier locked from a Rogers store, advised they too had an "NU" model.
Looks like Samsung may have started selling their phones Network Unlocked in anticipation of the upcoming changes requiring all phones to be sold unlocked, with the Note 8 as the first model.

My offer still says "pending" on the Samsung site unfortunately.

You needed to register on Samsung during the pre-order period, and then register your device with Samsung after purchase. This will trigger Samsung to ship the gifts to you. Make sure your address is complete on your Samsung Account as well.

I suspect it'll take a number of days to review.

Agreed. I wonder how they'll deal with the upcoming iPhone launch since those locks are controlled remotely.

Mine still shows pending as well. I pre-registered after placing my preorder and logged in on my phone but still shows pending. Clicking the little "?" says it's pending review or something like that. I guess they verify the preorder with the retailer first?
First, impression for me is- this was an upgrade worthy device for me coming from N5 after N7 fiasco. However, had I bought N7 then I might have skipped this gen but coming from 2 year old tech I'm glad-I didn't buy S7Edge and got this instead.
For my personal usage. The battery is outstanding and 2.5 hours or so more SOT than N5.
I'm also using adhell-however , just to block facebook and what not.
Anyone buying he Exynos model in Canada?
Yes, its great that the phones are unlocked. I just found out (after spending an hour on the phone with Rogers) that if you purchase a phone directly from Samsung, Rogers will not activate WIFI calling. They told me some BS that the phone needs to be purchased from Rogers and is specially configured for VOLTE. Anyone have a code or know of a way to get this working. I'm not about to give Rogers more $$$.

Anyone buying insurance on the phone. I hear it's $400+ to replace these screens. Don't know if I should go with the carrier monthly option or Samsung Premium Care.

Sorry, I meant to say Mobile Care. $170/yr, $130 deductible, covers accidental damage.

Was wondering about this too -- did you end up purchasing?
Just using the carrier protection plan.

I had a Bell S7 that I unlocked and changed to a Rogers CSC and got wifi calling and VOLTE working. Call Rogers, don't tell them where you bought a phone, just that you want to register the IMEI for your phone on account.
