Has anyone found a way make video chat on sgs2? Have anyone tried yahoo messenger? Let us know what tweaks and tricks you have done, if any, to make it work. Thanks
try Google talk
hope this help
google talk or use google+ hangout. they all should work
Google Video Chat only seems to work over Wi-Fi. Does anything work over 3g/4g?
i have not tried 'hangout' except over the computer. not sure if that works over 3g (although i can't see why it shouldn't)
whats the best to use to video chat with somebody who has the iphone 4? was using facetime with my wife which was great and now we use skype which is not as clear... any of these google apps work on iphone?
thanks for all of the above suggestions. i had google+ for a while now hardly used it. will try google talk.
Use skype---when you open the skype app after loggin into click menu (settings) and enable video calling option. Video calls on 3g/4g and wifi.

If you have the phone rooted you can change a Database file from Google Talk that prevents the video Chat over 3g/4g
- To do that, have a SQL Lite Editor and edit the file:
/data/data/com.google.android.gsf/databases/gservices.db
- Go to the main database
- Change the line gtalk_vc_wifi_only from "true" to "false"
i personally like oovoo better than skype.
Qik works just fine, used it to talk to my wife on her iphone. The full version will work on 3g or wifi, the phone comes with the crappy lite wifi only version.

there's not really a Canadian sbf, there's an Aussie sbf and a French sbf that are compatible with many devices that aren't AT&T, if you read this it may help, i'm not sure if you bought a device, unlocked it for that provider or what, so if your device has any of the version numbers mentioned in the first post you should be good to go.
or if you just wanna post your build version (should be starting with some characters like "OLYLA" then some numbers) in this thread i can probably tell you if the sbf in the thread i linked you to will work for you
You could try a market enabler app to trick the market into thinking you're with a different carrier.

Google Talk is part of the OS whereas Google Voice is an addon app.

In curious as well as to which version you're using. The one stateside in the market has messed up audio.. transmitted from the atrix it almost pure static...

I have the latest GTalk according to the version number. It's the old version though, I know about clicking on my name and selecting voice and video. There is no option there. I had the 1.3 on before the update and it worked great, now after the update the app is back to how it originally was but with a different version number. It's not with video at all. Flashing didn't work before when I tried it on 2.3.3

Try flashing a rom with it already built in. every rom i have tried has the newest gtalk already installed
Im on wtsb now and i have gtalk with video and it runs great. also have skype running as well. Im a happy camper just flash a custom rom if you root..
Working Video
I downloaded the file from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062980
extracted the Talk2.apk and pushed it to apps from recovery in ADB. I didn't remove anything (which seems odd), but I now have working video in Talk.
Edit:
I tried a video call and it failed. I had to follow my own instructions from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16192477&postcount=29
Yeah I took the Talk2.apk from ViperROM & renamed it Talk.apk. I used root explorer to move it & fixed the permissions.

Make sure the download size of the vvm zip is correct (it should be 1mb), try downloading it from your PC because people have been having problems with it only partially downloading to 500kb.
Flash this in CWM to get root:

i had the same issue, couldnt get VVM to work.
I just use google voice, it's better anyway, IMHO
It's really not that hard guys. Just follow the simple instructions.
1. Download the vvm zip I posted.
2. Make sure it is the full file and not an incomplete zip! IT MUST BE 1MB.
3. Remove the current visual voicemail you have installed.
4. Flash the vvm zip in CWM.
5. Turn off wifi and make sure cellular data is on and launch the visual voicemail app and complete the setup.

I tried this, and it doesn't work. Even after removing the old VM and flashing the new one, when I use the VVM app and get into my voicemail, it tells me that "an activation message still hasn't been received" and asks me to call VM again.
Could this be a problem with my plan? Do I have to have VVM activated?

Yes you need the visual voice mail feature.
If you have AT & T messaging then you need to get that feature removed as it overrides visual voice mail.

thanks for the info!
edit: instead of the Gui SQLite Editor, I chose to isntall sqlite3 since it was missing for some reason.. (guessing that not all builds get it).. anyhow there is an app in the ap store called 'sqlite isntaller for root'.. once installed I just did the following through terminal emulator.. I guess I could have done it through adb as well...
Code:
$ su
# sqlite3 /data/data/com.google.android.*gsf/databases/gservices.db "insert into overrides (name, value) values ('gtalk_vc_wifi_only', 'false')";
# reboot
Great info here.. very glad I remembered about this site and came back now that I have an Android device I actually use..
