[Q] which insecure kernel do I need - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
I've got a UK t-mobile samsung s2 and I just wanted to check which insecure kernel I should be using, I am planning to use odin and s2root
Carrier-Tmobile
PDA:i9100bokg2
csc:i9100bokg1
csci9100tmukf1
I looked on the carrier branded firmwares and could not find insecure kernals, only roms and stock kernels
Therefor I assume I should use xxkg2?
XXKG2
Firmware info
PDA:XXKG2
PHONE: XXKG2
Date: 12/07/2011
OXA Poland:
XXKG2 Stock Kernel:
Password: [email protected]
can anyone confirm or put me on the right path?
Thanks

That's the link for the BOKG2 insecure kernel.
I too kit from Odia's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671.
You just have to flash that kernal via odin (PDA, no repartition).
If you're using s2 root app follow this thread's instructions to the letter:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
That should do it. Good luck. Any doubts you can PM me.
EDIT: After you finish rooting to can download from the same Odia thread, the original BOKG2 kernel (just look in the thread), and flash it through odin exactly as you flashed the insecure kernel. Anyway, this is just optional, you can look at the s2 root thread, this is also explained.

Whats the password for winrar for the BOKG2 kernel ?

[Q] Help for a Newb?

Hey everyone, just recieved delivery of my SG2 today, scared that i do not want to brick it or something. Its a Vodaphone Australia I9100T version.
Looking to root it, all seems straight forward except for the kernal to download and flash..., from the CF-Root posts.
My
Kernel version is 2.6.35,7-I9100TDUKF2-CL264900
does that mean I just pick the KF2 one from CF's posts and it should be right?
Am I missing anything, ODIN - flash it and its done?
How do i take a backup of my original kernel?
Cheers
It's pretty hard to brick your phone if you follow instructions. Easier than jailbreaking an iPhone, in most respects. Here, follow this link, I rooted mine last week at work and it took like 15 minutes. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Hey,
i too have a galaxy S II from vodafone in australia.
under *#1234# it says pda is I9100TDUKF2, phone is I9100TDUKF2, and the csc is I9100TVAUKF2.
To root my device do i choose the XXKF2 generic or stock kernel from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 ?
Or do i use the frankenstein ones? (Im not even sure on the major difference =X) I only ask because the CSC doesnt quite match up with any, and as this is my first and recently new android phone i dont want to brick it ><
In my opinion you should use CF-Root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Just read post 1,2,3,4 and just follow the instructions and nothing can go wrong. And yes you should pick the KF2 kernel.
Lennyz1988,
Does the difference in CSC matter? aka VAU for mine, compared to the OXA on the KF2 kernel in the link you gave? another nooby question.. should i use the kernel provided in the CF-Root link you gave, or one of the ones from the other guide?
cheers
You should pick the kernel from the thread I provided. In post 4 is the kernel you need. But read the other posts first of course CSC is not relevant at the moment.
Another noob here. I have the Vodafone (UK) version and I've upgraded it as far as I can with Kies. I now have:
Baseband: i9100BUKE1
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100BUKE5-CL227058 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.BUKE5
I would like to root it and ideally (if I can find a way to back up an restore reliably) flash a non-vodafone-riddled-with-crap ROM on it.
I read the instructions on how to flash the kernel rom to root it with CF_root, however they don't seeem to have the any version for KE5 (or am I wrong?). What are my alternatives for rooting?
Thanks
thanks for the quick reply Lenny1988,
hopefully i dont stuff things up, but i did get the KF2 kernel from the 4th post as you suggested. Does it change much that my phone is the I9100T and not the I9100?
cheers!
UPDATE : so i went ahead and did it, tis currently sitting at a screen that appears to be a battery charging. Hopefully all is well =\
UPDATE 2 : so all went well, got the triangle, followed CF-Root and removed it. now i have a rooted stock galaxy S 2, cheers Lennyz1988 for the direction

[Q] Root SGS2

Hi,
I've searched and read several posts regarding rooting a sgs2, but can't seem to find the right tools/files..
Some of the places I looked for more info are
[19.10.2011][CF-Root 4.4] KE*, KF*, KG1/2/3/5/6/7, KH1/3/4, KI2/3/4/8 - su+bb+CWM4
There are several files there, like this one:
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KF2-v4.0-CWM4.zip
But if I'm right, this is not the file I need.
My phone info:
PDA: I9100BOKE3
Phone: I9100BOKD1
CSCI9100TNLKE3
(T-mobile, Dutch)
Did I miss anything? Looked at the wrong place? Cos I feel like the file(s) I need are not available?
Thanks,

1. This seems to be a question concerning CF-Root kernel, so please post your question in Chainfire's thread.
2. To find the right CF-Root kernel, you have to stick to your current kernel version. This can be easily found in Settings => Phone info => Kernel version.
3. Your version seems to be BOKE3.
So the nearest CF-Root kernel seems to be KE2 or KE7.
4. Please backup everything you do not want to lose before flashing.
Good luck!
P.S.: I recommend to flash a newer ROM (e.g. XWKJ1).
There is a Frankenstein version available in Intratech's thread (=> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278) (look at the third post).
So, you can use a CSC for your region and/or provider to flash in one row with Odin.
You can root your phone running XWKJ1 by using CF-Root kernel for XX_KI4 or XW_KI8 - as I have done it successfully.
thanks for the help/info!
I'm a new member, can't make a reply in that thread, that's why i created one here..
I thought i needed a similar one, KE3.. guess i misunderstood and can use a one like it / close to it, like KE2 or 7, too!
I'll give it a go with the info you gave me, thanks!
Is it safe to root a higher version
ROM with a lower version CF-Root package since I am not able to find the insecure kernel for XWKJ2 and can I use Frankenstein ROM XWKJ2 and my country specific CSC simultenously in odin to flash my SGS2 see the process below will it be safe
Using ODIN
Step one:
PIT: Blank
Boot Loader: Blank
PDA: Frankenstein XWKJ2
Phone: Blank
CSC: ODDXF3 (Options selected as expalined in tutorials .... i.e repartition unchecked)
Step Two:
root with CF-Root XWKI8 v4.3
Step Three:
flash with stock kernel XWKJ2 (to get rid of Yellow Exclamation mark)

[Q] Firmware/Kernel/ROM info

Hello,
Greetings from Romania! Monster resources around here! I've started this thread because I need help in understanding some things that are not (yet!) clear to me. So, please be patient with me.
I want to install an AOSP ROM (CyanogenMod or MIUI, still not decided) and before I start to customize my SGS2, I would like to ask you a few questions.
Here is the info for my unlocked and unbranded SGS2:
*#1234#
PDA: i9100XWKI4
Phone: i9100XXKI1
CSC: i9100OXFKE1
Settings->About phone
Android: 2.3.4
Baseband: i9100XXKI1
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-i9100XWKI4-CL575468
Build: GINGERBREAD.XWKI4
So, here are my questions:
1. Does Phone=Baseband=Modem?
2. CSC is included in the firmware? If I update to XWKK2, will the phone work in my country (Romania: East Europe)?
3. What's the latest firmware? In this thread, it seems that XWKK2 is the latest. Is there a newer one?
4. The official Samsung firmware includes the stock ROM? If I update the firmware to XWKK2, will I have Android 2.3.6 Samsung stock ROM?
5. Is it recommended to update the current firmware of the phone before you start the rooting process? What are the benefits of updating the firmware?
6. Basically, is the Kernel independent from the firmware and can it be updated individually? As I can see, the XWKK2 stock Kernel can be downloaded separately.
7. Do I need to update also the Kernel to the latest version (XWKK2) before starting the rooting process? (Obviously, if I update the Kernel, when rooting according to Chainfire's guide, I will choose the correct CF-Root Kernel file: CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_KK2-v5.0-CWM5.zip)
8. After I root the phone (CF-Root 5.0), flash an ASOP ROM, do I need to/is it possible to update the firmware as soon as a new one is available from Samsung?
9. Is it possible to remove that warning triangle with an USB Jig if I have XWKK2? Or do I need to follow Chainfire's instructions found here? Which method to use? What are the differences between these two methods, besides the custom ROM count reset that the USB Jig will do?
10. The ASOP ROM that I'll flash (CM, MIUI, etc.) will have its own Kernel? If so, then there's no need to update the stock Kernel to XWKK2 in the first place? Only update the firmware before the root?
11. If Chainfire releases a new version for his CF-Root, say 6.0, do I need to update/reroot so that I'll have the new versions for Busybox, CWM?
12. After the successful rooting of my SGS2 using CF-Root, I'll make a backup of my existing stock ROM using CWM. If I need to use the warranty, I'll restore the stock ROM using CWM. Will this action remove CWM, Busybox and the associated root access so that the Samsung Service won't know what I've done (of course, also custom ROM count reset using USB Jig)?
As you can see, what I can't understand, are the relations between Firmware, Kernel and ROM! Which one includes the other ones?
Thank you! I'll really appreciate all the help I can get!

1. Does Phone=Baseband=Modem?
YES = Modem sometimes called Radio and modems are interchangeable
2. CSC is included in the firmware? If I update to XWKK2, will the phone work in my country (Romania: East Europe)?
Yes if its Romanian firmware and CSC and yes if you enter network apn settings manually or flash a correct CSC .
3. What's the latest firmware? In this thread, it seems that XWKK2 is the latest. Is there a newer one?
KK5 latest in that thread .
4. The official Samsung firmware includes the stock ROM? If I update the firmware to XWKK2, will I have Android 2.3.6 Samsung stock ROM?
Stock = Samsung rom KK2 in the stock rom thread is stock .
5. Is it recommended to update the current firmware of the phone before you start the rooting process? What are the benefits of updating the firmware?
Really regards rooting to match latest firmware to latest rooted kernel
6. Basically, is the Kernel independent from the firmware and can it be updated individually?
No its part of the firmware the actual core if you like . Yes it can be updated individually from XDA .
No flash stock XWKK2 first then root with KK2 root is the simple method .
8. After I root the phone (CF-Root 5.0), flash an ASOP ROM, do I need to/is it possible to update the firmware as soon as a new one is available from Samsung?
Custom roms are not always updated via Samsung firmware route as product codes do not match whats on the server .
10. The ASOP ROM that I'll flash (CM, MIUI, etc.) will have its own Kernel? If so, then there's no need to update the stock Kernel to XWKK2 in the first place? Only update the firmware before the root?
If you flash stock KK2 you are including KK2 kernel its always part of the package .
11. If Chainfire releases a new version for his CF-Root, say 6.0, do I need to update/reroot so that I'll have the new versions for Busybox, CWM?
Not really .
No as your backup includes the CWM rooted kernel .
Simple method is flash full stock firmware to remove root etc and reset custom rom counter .
As you can see, what I can't understand, are the relations between Firmware, Kernel and ROM! Which one includes the other ones?
ROM basically the full package PDA = firmware including kernel
Phone = modem CSC = country specifics
Kernel Modem and CSC can be flashed separately and changed from original .
KK2 firmware with KK1 Firmware KH3 Modem and CSC for another area is all possible .

[Q] Need Kernel Version for SG2 GT-I9100TDCKH2 insecure and original

Hi Advisors,
Pls advise where can I find Stock Kernel Version GT-I9100TDCKH2 both insecure and original. I was informed the site multiupload.com/K03I6J79KX (Password: [email protected]), but I couldn't access the web at all.
Could you kindly advise?
Many thank in advance!
Use KH1 or KH3 to root your phone from the CFRoot thread (there is no KH2), so far as the original kernel goes, search for the entire rom on Samfirmware.com & you should be able to extract the kernel (zImage) from the tar.
Also, you may be able to download the original rom with the PC version of Checkfus (search for it on here/Google), depending on whether your carrier has issue a firmware update since this firmware you're looking for has been released, I.E Checkfus allows you to download the latest firmware for your carrier/country, if they haven't released an update since KH2, you should be able to download it with Checkfus & extract the kernel as above.
My GS2 Kernel Version GT-I9100TDCKH2, can I really root with
- CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KH1-v4.1-CWM4.zip
- CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KH3-v4.1-CWM4.zip ?
For original kernel, rom on samfirmware.com, could you advise which one?
My GS2:
- Device: GT-9100T
- Product Code: GT-9100LKTTHL
- PDA: I9100TDCKH2
- Phone: I9100TDCKF1
- CSC: I9100TTHLKF1
Kindly advice. Thanks!
Re: rooting with CFRoot, what did I say in my previous post ? (I'm not repeating it). So far as finding your firmware on Samfirmware goes, I have no idea which one you should use. I've never downloaded or used any firmware from there, and my stock firmware is different to yours because I'm in a different part of the world.
As far as I know, Samfirmware have their firmwares organised into carrier/country so you should be able to match up your current firmware with one from there.
If you're in any way unsure of what you're about to with your phone (this goes for the future as well as now), stop. And don't do whatever it is until the process is clear in your mind & you understand it fully without having it explained to you in minute detail.
I just wanna confirm again as I see different comment on the "XX" and "OXA" besides "KH1/2/3". Apologize if that annoys you.
Anyway, thank very much indeed for your advise!
As per this line in Chainfire's CFRoot thread:- "What matters most (KG1) in this case, is in bold. Try to find the matching file under downloads..." I.E the "XX" & so on is not important.

Hi, Need help with finding insecure kernel

I have a Samsung Galaxy SII
