Hello,
i'm having a lot of connection problems with my mini pro.
My wifi signal is worse than when I use my HTC Desire.
And it's almost impossible to get a connection to 3G (or EDGE).
The software build is .335, but can't upgrade to the newer version. Get message that no update is available. Are these issues that are fixed in the newest build?
Or is the antenna of the Mini Pro just really bad?
Grtz
hi there..
my build is 4.0.A.2.368
and wifi works perfectly.
AFAIK there are no issues about bad wifi in SK17i
Wifi works, but the signal is just worse than with my Desire...
And Mobile Internet connection is just extremely bad, can't seem to stay connected for more then a couple of seconds...
mine is not worse than my asus seashell netbook concerning the signal ..strange
Have you rooted your device/run a custom ROM?
Or maybe it is fixed in the newest build...?
unlocked, rooted, current fw, kernel by doomlord.
Unfortunatley I did this immediately when I bought the device. I cannot compare it to original stock phones ..
Thanks,
I'm considering rooting/unlocking myself, still got some reading to do first though.
Grtz!
there are really good instructions in here.. much success!

I wonder anybody flashed GB.XXKPF.WT-0.2.0 ROM for Galaxy Player 5.0 INTL (YP-G70). Is there any bugs? Any improvement for wifi reception signal?

The only issue I see so far is some camera apps will have upside down images but I am not sure if it is even a problem of the ROM or the app. Other than that there is nothing bother me when using the rom, but I have to say that I never use any of those Samsung apps. So there may be problems that I am not aware of.
As for wifi reception, if I am right next to the router, I've got a Rssi value of -34 and Elixir2 says (98% - strong). If I am in another room (there is a solid concrete wall between the device & the router), the signal will drop to around -86 and Elixir2 will say (31% - medium), which is still usable.
Thanks WT. I used to have Skype camera upside down problem when I was on Froyo, but when upgrading to GB, it was solved. However, wifi signal was weaker than Froyo (maybe ~30% less?). Lots of forum mentioned it's a common problem for GB (regardless of model).
BTW. How differentis this ROM from G70XXKPF-rooted-rj10 (also yours)? Tinking to flash one which is more stable and battery efficient.

There is no modification to G70XXKPF-rooted-rj10 except for root and a custom kernel. If you prefer stability, G70XXKPF-rooted-rj10 will be a better bet. You can try out various kernel versions to see which one has better battery life.
The GB.XXKPF.WT ROM looks similar on the surface but all the jar files and apk files were decompiled and compiled again (because of modding). So there is a higher risk in using this ROM. Although it looks stable on my device, it is hard to say for others. Actually two users have just reported problems about flashing the 0.2.0 ROM.
As for wifi problem, I don't really see that my self. If you have some links to GB wifi problems, I can have a look.
One in our forum mentioned it too (after upgrading to GB):

I checked my current wifi reception and have similiar signal strength as yours. However, if you revert to Froyo, you will find big improvement immediately esp a distance from your router. Should get plenty when google "poor wifi reception Gingerbread Samsung galaxy S". The other is problem of connecting hidden SSID which can be patched from Market (HiddenSSID enabler).
I can find patch for i9000 not YP-G70.

Wifi problem can be difficult to reproduce and fix because of every site is unique. The patch you found is interesting though. I peeked into that patch, it needs further study because the patch includes some binary files which looks like firmware for the wifi chip. If our player use the same chip, there is a chance that the patch may work. Or we can try restoring the firmware of Froyo and see if it will work with the current kernel. (These are all speculations though.)
Just did a binary compare of the wifi firmware of this patch with the firmware I found on our device. They are the same! So the patch you found can potentially be used on our player.
It is said only suitable for XXJVS. I've asked if it's suitable for our device (bottom of their thread), and answer is no. Interesting why it's only for one specific rom? WT, wonder if you feel better wifi reception when you were on Froyo?
Is Wifi config in any relation with kernel?

If you unzip their "patch", you will see what is really inside. There are a couple bin files, I think those are firmware of the wifi chip (often closed source and only binary is available). Other than that, there are a number of text files for configuration of the wifi which can likely be tweaked. They didn't patch the kernel or the android framework.
Their way of flashing is odd though because the update script of the 2nd patch will overwrite what they have patched in the first patch.
If the firmware bin files are exactly the same, then what we need to do is to tweak the setting.
I am not good at this at all. Can you pls tell what tweak have they done by comparing their settings and original one on our device. Is conf file the driver for wifi chip? Really hope wifi reception can be improved on our device since it is the only way to connect internet. Currently, the signal is a lot weaker than your laptop (and only close to laptop when it is on Froyo which I am reluctant to go back).

Actually I have done that before, but I will have a look this weekend and see what can be changed.
Great! Looking forward to your progress. Will be a good news for all YP-G70 users if making a success.

Oops! What I want to say is "I haven't done that before...". Anyway, I will first do a comparison of wifi related files of different ROM first. That will give use some idea where to start.
Hey all,
I recently bought an Xperia Go and updated it to the latest FW
and now a couple of bugs present themselves.
the goal of this thread is to list them and/or list solutions
* laggy launcher
* a lot of widgets aren't supported or simply don't work
* no notification bar settings at all
* Wifi issue's ( more Xperia phones have this, reported to have something to do with the Wpa_supplicant )
(all my keyboard issues where solved by installing JB keyboard)
For the people who still have problems with the laggyness of the phone:
try Munjeni's Kernel and Pimp My Rom (use the different android_upgrade package and only the volume buttons NOT the screen! )
An update from sony has been reported
Proof
hopefully this wil resolve some issues
to be continued
My bugs:
* WalkMate doesn't count steps or count it incorrectly; allways below 50 steps (even when Extended battery is off)
* Camera viewer quality is bad on 5 mpx resolution (when I take pictures they are excellent)
Upgraded my xperia go to ics official stock rom and wifi doesn't work anymore? Anyone with the same problem? Any solutions ?

That's not acceptable, seeing that WPA2 is a widely-used standard in academic and commercial environments for WiFi encryption.
Hi.
I have tried ICS official stock from Sony Update Service, yesterday.
1. Laggy
2. Drain my battery, 20 - 40% faster that it did in GB
3. Bad performance, laggy and more laggy.
4. My Xperia Active with ICS are much more faster and smoother.
Back to GB, everything run perfectly

Well tell that to developpers of the routers firmware, it depends on the router mostly and not the phones

Hi.
Try to reinstall ICS ROM again via Sony Update Service.
Since you had GB before and didn't had any problems with your WiFi at home, and now you have problem with ICS, i believe this is a ICS problem.
If this was a router problem, you should experience the same with your GB ROM.
I did try ICS for couple of days ago, and i didn't had any problem with the WiFi here at home, but ICS was so laggy and had bad performance. I went back to my stock GB again.
I don't understand why some people have laggy device and other not. I thought it was the same phone (Xperia GO).
Well you have to try ICS a couple of days ( the first days the phone is 'learning' your behavior)
and after a while it gets less lags
and for the WiFi problems, i can connect to some routers but not to others,
so i think it's a router issue more then an ICS issue although i can't remember if i had it with GB...
Btw is someone else experiencing problems with low battery:
when my battery gets less than 15% my phone gets very slow (opening apps/switching to launcher)
even rebooting is almost impossible ( at( one time i had to wait until my phone turned off by itself)
Hi.
Well, maybe i should try ICS again and just let it be laggy for couple of days and see if that help, but i also notice that the ICS drain my battery like he....l . Something i don't like at all.
I have been reading at Sony forum, and there is lot of people have problems with ICS.

That doesn't make sense. Loads of wireless devices connect to WPA2 successfully. It's only that this phone, when upgraded to stock ICS, fails to stay connected, and has the wpa_supplicant process hang with 100% cpu usage when such happens. It's definitely a software issue on Sony's end.

That i didn't know, i only experienced that in my bar most phones with ICS or IOS had trouble with WPA2 on my router and when i switched to WPA it seemed that the problems where gone,
but after a few days i couldn't connect for a while and suddenly it did...
Does anyone know a way to "fix" the wpa_supplicant problem?

Easy on the capitals there cowboy...
There's indeed a probleem with ICS and the Wifi, if you search the Xperia forums you'll see a lot of complaints about it.
there's no solution at the moment, but there's an official update comming Proof
So you'll have to wait for either
- a solution made/found here on XDA
- an official update (wich hopefully resolves this
- a custom rom ( several can be found, but they're still in development)
- go back to GB
The xperia Go is a very good phone, it just needs some love and attention, some tweaks and customs...
I got a Razr Maxx that cames with 4.0.4 version already (got it from CLARO, claro rom 672.180.311) and since first moment im experiencing low quality from wifi connections.
i moved for 672.180.340, same quality, them for .350 and used a lot of cm10 biulds (d-wiz, crackerteam, etc...) all of them i got an unstable wifi connection. With CM10 i think was little better then others, but still worse them my DEFY and my OPTIMUS2X. after lot of times getting wifi connection droped i start to analyze it using this software that i use since my first android (HTC Diamond, android version 1.6) https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDEsImNvbS5mYXJwcm9jLndpZmkuYW5hbHl6ZXIiXQ..
when im 5-7 meters away from my Router all those phones still with -40db (total signal) and my razr maxx is getting moving from -80 ~ -50. it never comes on -40db and the changes have so fast frequency.
Can someone from brazil say something about this to me? did your phones act like this on wifi? im thinking to send it to support.
*maybe i post a video of my test later.
This question is "especially" for BR people, that not means "only for BR"
the only thing is that my phone is Made in Brazil. thats why i direct my wuestion to BR people.
Can Someone tell me something more about this issues??
I'm totally disappointed with the wi-fi on this device. I upgraded recently from a very basic android phone (LG P350) and it had better signal (which is unacceptable) . I've tried some tweaks to improve it but nothing worked. I'm almost convinced of buying a more powerful router for my home office. I'm not willing to install custom roms just yet, so I've only tested it with stock ICS from VIVO.
Let me know if you find something to enhance signal strength and stability.

Ok drunken, thanks for your opinion. Was thinking that was only on my phone.
I will try little more, probable using a dualband router and/or another cryptography like wpa2/wep (im actually on wpa-psk aes)
Will update here all results
Digitado pelos meus dedos.
Just to let you know, yesterday I had to flash a new firmware (new, but official, from TIM) because beats audio screwed up my phone. Wi-fi is better now, not perfect, but I get a nice signal in every room at my house, without random disconnections.
Of course by doing so I threw warranty out of the window. It was the only option is had, though. Sound was dead and video playback as well.

Hello everyone, i've flashed yesterday the SK17i ICS Stock Firmware Build 4.1.b.0.587, the overall performance is good for myself, however it may seem that WiFi has some 'Weird' issues
It work's i can navigate via WiFi with my Xperia via Wifi on a TP-LINK router and lots of hotspots, actually an TL-WR841N (Wireless B,G,N) that is a kickass router overall for home applications, but since i've flashed to ICS, has a WEIRD behavior that suddenly disconnects, drops and catches WiFi again, sometimes is very fast, but other times takes like 5 seconds OR MORE...
How do i know is an ICS issue?? Well didn't happened at all with GB, and other devices on my home seems to work pretty well (Motorola ATRIX, Milestone II, RAZR i, laptops and blabla...)
Hope someone has tracking or solution under this issue.
And thanks a lot for the community in advice!:good:
Rooted? Unlockd?

I have the stock SONY .587 ICS rom flashed via lastest Flashtool, device is now rooted with a new metod without the downgrade and everything...
Seems more like a rom issue, i can rollback to Sony's GB .58 an fix this but i dont find the GB perfomance as good as i wanted.
Thanks!
Okay so a bit of a back story. I bought this phone for my dad for his birthday one year ago. And so far he's loving it, but now he's run into some problems.
The main issue is, for some reason the wifi signal strength on his phone has gotten worse. It used to catch the wifi signal at a place in my house till maybe a week ago, but now it doesn't. Because of this he used almost 1 GB above his data pack this month (unknowingly, of course).
Since my dad is using it, he's running everything pure stock. No root, no recovery, no custom ROM, no nothing. Now I checked this forum and saw that you guys have ported a stable KitKat build to this phone (congrats, BTW!). What I want to know is, does this come with a new radio too? And will this new radio help in receiving slightly better wifi strength? He gets the signal up to 5 meters away from his room, so all I need is to increase the range by just 5 meters.
So can you guys recommend some stuff? Either a new ROM/radio, maybe an app (but I don't think these work, right?)... But please recommend only fully stable builds. My dad is not tech savvy so he won't understand what to do when there's a bug.
Thanks!
Hello.
I am not a very seasoned developer but I have flashed many Roms on my Canvas HD. So firstly you mentioned that your phone hasn't been rooted. There are plenty of tutorials available online to root your phone. To flash Roms, mods root is a must.
And yes, Roms do improve WiFi connection, phone speed, and in some cases even the battery life. Its all a matter of priorities, whether you want the newest version of android or longer battery usage. Since you need it for your dad, I recommend flashing any jelly bean ROM. It will be stable and perform well as a daily driver. Your WiFi speed and range will also improve because of the ROM tweaks. Hope that helps!
