I wanna put the handcent icon where the stock messaging icon is on the homescreen. I sthere anyway of doing it other than another launcher?
On the TW4 ports on the captivate if you go into the app drawer and press menu and edit you could change them. Is there a view type in the settings in the app drawer?

I want to know how to do this as well.
Took me a bit to figure this out, but it's possible.
1) open Applications (your app drawer).
2) press Menu key.
3) press edit** - by default this will pop up with a box that says You need to switch the view type to customizable grid... click Switch.
**if you do not see the edit option, you are probably in the Alphabetical List View Type - change it to Customizable Grid, now press Menu, then Edit.
4) now, navigate to app you want on your main home row and drag it on top of app you want to replace, ie: Handcent SMS on top of the stock Messaging app.
5) click Menu, then Save, or just press your Home key and it should apply.
Thanxs

I'm running touchwiz, and deleted the web icon from the app drawer. I have a web icon on my homescreen, but how the heck do I get it back into the app drawer.
How can I restore deleted icons in the app drawer?
Hey,
You can't delete the icon from the app draw without uninstalling the app. Since the icon is on your desktop then you have not deleted it.
TW allows you to organize/customize the app draw but there will always be the default setting with all apps. I have not used TW in a long time but, open the app draw and hit the menu button. If I remember correctly you will have options for custom app draw but there will also be the default, which will have all of your apps.

You actually can delete them, I know because I did LOL
You can delete it, by going to your app drawer, then hitting menu, then custamizable grid, then edit the grid, then pull the icon out of the app drawer and put it in your dock, now its not longer in your app drawer. Now put the icon from the dock into the trash, and now its gone!
I have a backup icon on my homescreen, but now, I can't seem to reverse the process and get the icon back into the app drawer
I guess the problem is, technically the icon is still somewhere is on my phone, just not in my app drawer! I want it back into the app drawer.
Sorry, maybe I was not clear. When I say app draw I'm talking about the default app draw. This display is not"customizable" therefore you cannot delete the icons unless you delete the app. You must be using a customizable grid.
You get the icon back by either using the default grid, or editing the customizable grid. Sound like you have the basics of the latter, just play around with. GL

Yes, I'm using the stock samsung touchwiz customizable app drawer. Trust me you can remove the icon from the app drawer, it lets you. The problem is, putting back in.
Yeah, SykesAT, you're incorrect. Give this a shot:
Tap "Applications"
Press "Menu"
Tap "View Type"
Tap ""Customizable Grid"
Press "Menu"
Tap "Edit"
Tap "-" (minus sign) on the apps that allow it.
Sadly, Sammy, I don't know how to get them back. Uninstall/reinstall an option?

The minus sign is uninstall, and it only allow unisntall not system apps. Web browser is a sys app and you shouldn't be able to delete it. Are you sure is not in the dock not the desk?
When you place an item in the dock, it desapears from the drawer...
You can always do a factory reset...... Not fun but it is something.....
Ok so messed around with it some more, and I thought I had trashed the icon from the dock. It appears it didn't go from dock to trash, it went from dock to app drawer, but out of alphabetical order so I wasn't seeing it.
So here is the new issue:
Techinically, I guess I want 2 copies of the icon, meaning.
I custamize my grid, I take the web icon OUT of the app drawer and put it into my dock. Meaning now the web icon is in my dock, and there is no longer a web icon in my app drawer.
However, I would like a copy, meaning I want the web icon in both my dock and app drawer. Anyway to make multiple copies of the icon? I know you can make multiple copies of icons on your homescreens, but seems like touchwiz doesn't give me the option. Either only lets me put it either in the dock or the app drawer, but not both places at the same time
I used desktop visualizer to create a second copy. Why not use a secondary web app like dolphin hd or opera? Just a thought....
Hey guys,
I really want to add a shortcut to the app drawer in the middle of my homescreen. I can't find the ability to do this anywhere. No widgets, apps or shortcuts I can find lead to open my app drawer. No, I don't want a folder, I just want to open my app drawer. I've used the search button, no one seems to have an answer.
Bump? Anyone?
What launcher are you using? ADW and Launcher Pro both allow this, and probably other launchers too. On ADW it's just press and hold on an empty space, select Launcher Actions and then Open/Close App Drawer.
If you want to change the icon you can press and hold the existing one, select edit and browse to an alternative.
Is there a way to set Dolphin HD as the default web browser and use the tray icon to access it?
Thanks
Yez. You can download an application called Launcher Pro. It allows you to customize the dock, etc. It's free, and available on the Market.

The tray icons (aside from the app drawer shortcut) are all customizable. Enter the app drawer (not the home screen), hit the menu button, then hit edit. It may ask you to switch to the customizable grid. Go ahead and do it if it asks, you can change back later (this is a bug in touchwiz). At this point you can drag icons into and out of the tray area. Hit the back button to lock them in place. If you had to change from an alphabetical arrangement in the app drawer to customizable grid, you can change back by hitting menu, view type, and choosing whatever style you wish.
As for the default browser, just hit "remember my selection" whenever it prompts you to choose one, and choose Dolphin HD. You can clear any default app settings by going into the "settings" app, hitting "applications", "manage applications", and selecting the application that is currently set at the default app for a specific task. In the list of settings there will be a "launch by default" section with an option to clear it as default.
That works. I didn't know about that trick of going to Edit under the application list page and rearranging the dock.

Long press anywhere on homescreen, then select unlock widgets.
Now long press on the widget you want to edit, a menu will pop up select configure, then select the text you want to reassign thenin the small row of options below select text>hotspot> then replace the default app by clicking it and selecting desired app in activities menu.
Sounds complicated but pretty easy

Install the launcher.
Long press on the app shortcut in your android home screen.
Click on the Edit option.
In the edit shortcut, you can now change the name of the icon.
After you change the name, click on the done button.
That’s it. You’ve successfully changed the name of the icon on your home screen. But, If you want to change app icon name in the app drawer, follow the below steps.
Open app drawer.
Touch and hold the icon of the app for which you want to change the name.
Drag the icon to edit (at the top) and release your hold on the icon.
Now, you are in the "edit app" popup, where you can edit the name.
Change the name as per your wish and click on done button.
Now, you can see the changed icon name in the app drawer.
The another way to change icon names is using android apps. In this instance, we are going to use the app called “quick shortcut maker”. You can download it from here.
Open the app.
Navigate to the applications section.
There you can see all the apps. Click on the app for which you want to change the name of the icon.
In the top, you can see the "tap to change label" option. Tap on it.
In the rename shortcut dialog box, provide the name you want.

" Install the launcher " Yeah but which launcher ?
And btw no need to give me a solution involving a launcher as i want to keep my samsung UI and launchers are too intrusive (I tried nova launcher) and they tend to edit everything on the phone, i only want to edit one app name/icon. Thanks !!
