2 weird email problems - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I am having a couple of weird issues with my brand new Thunderbolt (stock).
#1
The first is, one of my AOL email accounts keeps saying (and reminding me via a notification) that I have 6 new emails. Even though, all emails are read or old.
#2
The second is, the same account is not actually receiving/updating any new emails, whether I get one, or twenty. I have to go through a browser to see that I have received something.
The odd thing is, my other AOL email account (set up basically the same way) is working completely fine.
On my last Thunderbolt (which was rooted and running BAMF, shortly before it broke and got this new replacement), I was experiencing Problem #2 for the last few days or so.
Any ideas?

no ideas at all?

never had any email problems, but also have never had aol email...

Gmail items not actually being marked read.

Gmail is acting kind of funky on this phone...
Every now and then Ill take a look at the Gmail account on my phone and Ill see:
Inbox (1)
But all my emails have been marked read on the phone. So Ill log in on a desktop, and see that one of my e-mails is unread, even though I just marked it read on my phone.
Sometimes Ill get a zero unread count in my app, login on a desktop and see that Ive got 3 or more that were never marked read.
Gmail used to be the best email experience out there on a mobile device, in my opinion. But its now gotten to the point where this bug plagues just about every email I receive.
Am I the only one? Is there even any action I take to prevent this?
Sounds like a syncing issue. Everything works fine for me. Are you on a custom ROM?
Stock rooted.
I seem to remember having the same issue on my G1 and the myTouch Slide, though not to this gravity. I guess it must have something to do with my account itself, but I would really hope not. Starting over with a new Gmail isnt the most elegant solution...
I'm getting this today too. Frustrating.
my wife's Vibrant can't even sync with gmail since yesterday

[Q] Atrix - SMS Issue (Wrong Recipient)

Little frustrated with the Motorola Atrix and wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions.
I am having an issue with SMS messages going to the wrong individual or starting a second threaded conversation with the same contact even though there is only one instance of this contact and one phone number attached. It's very similar to the reported issue 9392 that was supposed to be addressed sometime a while back.
This is my second Atrix and I have experienced the problem on both handsets. My first purchase was back in April of this year and within weeks that problem started to occur. I had tried various custom ROMs and SMS applications - but they all had the same issue.
The second handset was just received this week. I have gone through and completely cleaned up any duplicate contacts and exported them all to a CSV file and re-imported in hopes of finding a culprit contact. I am syncing with Exchange 2007, but had disabled Google Contacts, MotoBlur, Blah, Blah. Now I am only syncing contacts with Google and mail and calendar with Exchange.
I have completely reset the device and running full stock ROM with no applications installed outside of what is included in the image with the phone. Since a majority of my communication is via SMS on my phone - it has become a big hassle. I just get tired of having to apologize and explain my misguided text over and over again.
I have tried several 3rd party SMS apps and all have the same issue.
Anything you guys could suggest would be greatly appreciated. The only thing that I could possibly think of that I have not done is replace the SIM card which is one I got with my first iPhone a few years back.
**Note: I have a WP7 running Mango that does not have this issue.
I'd be leaning toward a bad sim. Why don't you just go to your carrier and get a new one? AT&T has never charged me for a replacement sim. Just explain your issue and that you've tried all other avenues to correct the problem.
For the duplicate thread I was able to solve with
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1210840
others said it didnt work if they were syncing facebook contacts.. I dont sync
contacts with anyone but gmail contacts.
but here is the basis of the fix that worked for me
Ok I think I solved it my last solution wasn't did not continue to work.
your contacts need to be stored / saved as
this format +12223331234 and some work with just 2223331234
but all work with the first (so far)
(111) 222-3333, +1-111-222-3333 both fail
if you look how the sms db stores them its like the format first mentioned and when using that format there are no duplicates
Click to collapse
Well, I tried to replace both the SIM and reformatted the numbers as suggested.
However, neither of those worked - so I dug a little more and narrowed it down to Motoblur and adding accounts under it.
I did find that if I did a hard reset of my phone and then used a new email address to setup a 'New' MotoBlur account (since you can't delete or reset an existing one) and then did not add accounts under MotoBlur - the issue resolved itself.
I still added a google account and exchange account - but everything else, like facebook, I downloaded the application to avoid MotoBlur from aggregating information into.
Hope that makes some sense and thanks for the reply.

[Q] email app showing previous emails in chinese?

ok, so I have had my prime for two days now and so far I havn't had any issues that I can see with it other than my email apk showing conversations in chinese.
I was emailing my wife and wanted to read back through the conversation as we were trying to make plans for when I get back from business and I noticed that after the first two emails, all that was shown was written in chinese....
1- my unit is unrooted and pretty much stock ICS updated.
2- this is not the gmail app, but the email app under a hotmail account
3- anyone have any idea as to why this is happening or how to fix it?
thanks

Email issue

I am running an exchange email using stock app and rom and having an annoying problem. I am getting new email announcements for emails already received a couple of days ago. Yesterdaythe the same two emails kept coming in as if they were new I ended up deleting them. Then today another email which I received a couple of days ago popped up as new in my notifications but nothing happens when I touch that email..the system just takes me to my inbox.
An additional issue I am having is that I set my email up to synch for three days which it did. Then I decided to change that setting to one day but the system didn't change the inbox and I still get multiple days
That is one common problem with stock exchange app. The sync has to be set correctly, or it'll fail.
Personally i use Moxier for exchange, and is a very good app. Find it in playstore, think they have a free version to try first. You will love the app :-D

Try the latest firmware update... One launched on 6th July. Many issues with the email client for exchange have been fixed.

Does HTC's Email program have a max inbox limit using IMAP or is something else wrong

So I just started running into this issue. I hit 10k emails in my inbox (ya I know I should clean it out) but ever since then I can't download emails on my phone. Using IMAP, when I started deleting them and get about 9800 in the inbox everything starts working again. I used USA.net email
Now the odd thing is my wife used to have this same problem but she was using AOL email and had an HTC Evo Shift.
So my question is, is this an HTC bug? An IMAP Limit bug or something else?
ok
Still having issues with this even after cleaning out my inbox a lot. My email is working fine on my Samsung tablet so it has to be an issue with the EVO. Also when I delete the email account and re-add it, it works for about 20 mins. Anyone run into this?
