I want to root my S2 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Now I am absolutely stock as You can see I update my S2 via Kies and now I have KI3. I decide to root my device in oder to get all cool fetures as CWM and so on. But I am a lit bit disapointed with my battery life so I though that I can try to flash KI8.
1. I think I will use this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 but I don't understand diffrence between Frankenstein Firmwares and officials. Maybe someone could explain?
2. As I mention before I updated via Kies to KI3 so I have new bootloader or not which you can't reset with Jig or not? If I have it can I still flash this one:
Firmware info
PDA:XWKI8
PHONE: XXKI4
Date: 28/09/2011
Android 2.3.5
Why Phone and PDA are diffrent?
NEE (Nordic Region): http://www.multiupload.com/XPF31ATMO4
XWKI8 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/4O6DVGUGSU
Password: [email protected]
And if I flash it I will have my native language on the phone (Lithuanian) or not?
3. Now then I reset my my phone as it was made it changes language to Polish and it's polish on the first boot how to make that Lithuanish would be the default language despite the wipe?
4. Imagine that I flash new firmeware KI8, and now I have to root. I think I will use this guide to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
And what is diffrent between ChainFire's or Odia's insecure kernels. Where get those?
For now that is all

The posts explains .
These packages below are not official firmware packages, they are Frankenstein package created due to demand for Firmware with different CSC and modems and also leaked firmware packages. KIES will not recognise the firmware so you won't be able to update to new firmware using KIES unless you flash back to a firmware meant for your device first. Otherwise there will always be Odin to use for updates
2. As I mention before I updated via Kies to KI3 so I have new bootloader or not which you can't reset with Jig or not?
New bootloader cannot be reset custom rom counter .
If I have it can I still flash this one:
Firmware info

Phone = modem modems are not updated as often

1. I am new one so this post isn't clear for me. Maybe you could explain.
2. so I have new bootloader. If I flash KI8 fireware I will have the bootloader which I can reset with jig?
3. So for rooting I should use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 this tutorial instead of my first one and with CF KI8 I will get CWM and SU already?

One what's download mode got to do with Kies ??? Kies does not use download mode .
Either let Kies update or use Odin not both at once .

Well Kies does reboot the phone to download mode before it updates the firmware but I think this is where it seems to be failing for most people, after getting to download mode it does nada and the update fails.
Just use Odin to update.

As per the post .
Flash KE2 full Root flash KE2 kernel only .
Risk about 99% safe and about 99.99% recoverable from a problem anyway on SGS1/2
PS i thought you meant 3 button download before with Kies

[Q] Difference between root and cf-root? And revert to stock versions?

Hello,
(1) I am confused between root and cf-root? What's the difference between them?
I'm talking about these threads.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
(2)CF-root - "THIS IS NOT A ROM - it is only a modified kernel.". Will rooting (either root or cf-root) change my kernel version?
(3)Let say I installed/ flashed/ root/ cf-root (i don't know which is the right word) my SGS 2 phone, can I get back to my stock version including kernel version for warranty purpose? Using these steps to revert to stock (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278), right?
As far as I gleamed, you have to have the correct version of the rom installed before you root. So if you want to root with CF-Roots KE7 kernel package, you have to first install a KE7 Rom.
To get back to your stock version you have to get a hold of the correct carrier branded rom and flash it with Odin. Take a look here.
By the way, you can find out wich version you currently have by entering *#1234# in your dialer.
Anybody more knowledgable feel free to correct me.

Yes if you have kernel KE2 and flash CF Root KE7 its now KE7
(3)Let say I installed/ flashed/ root/ cf-root (i don't know which is the right word) my SGS 2 phone
Its root all the same do you need root ???
, can I get back to my stock version including kernel version for warranty purpose?
If you have a copy of your original branded firmware flashing that back and removing apps that require root and resetting custom binary rom counter to 0 should be enough . Or flash a stock Samsung firmware
Using these steps to revert to stock (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278), right?

I rooted my SGSII using CF-Root 3.7, re-flash stock do zImage in CWM etc to remove the warning
Now there is CF-Root 3.8 available. Is it important to update? Do I need to repeat the same cycle:
- ODIN flash cf-root
- CWM kernel flash of .zip file
- ODIN flash stock kernel
- CWM kernel flash of zImage
TIA

I do not think that all stock kernels and their CSC and MODEMs are available or even noted. I flashed a custom ROM and would like to get back to the unbranded Netherlands version (likely the same KE2 for Benelux) but its unlisted even on samfirmware.com
I should think that flashing any stock version for your region (EU/USA/ROW) would leave the warranty intact in so far as a Samsung repair centre won't care/tell the difference.

Galaxy s2 kf3 firmware

Hi guys,
i have updated my firmware through kies from ke8 to kf3
(detail is pda :kf3,phone :ke4, csc : kf3(INU)),kindly let me know what firmware and kernel should i root and flash phone with so that it works properly.
Thanks, please reply any suggestion would suffice.
You need to flash with Chainfire's KF3 kernel to root. You already flashed the firmware, so you just need to flash the rooted kernel.
Here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=640677&d=1309348522
If you already don't have Odin, then Download from here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=611625&d=1306787405
To get rid of Yellow triangle which is gonna appear after rooting you need to flash back the Stock/Samsung signed kernel of KF3, which you will download from here,

For more details on rooting process must read CF's guide. This one,

Yes, you can update via Kies and root again. Kies wont detect if your phone is rooted or not as long as you are on Stock firmware.

[Q] Upgrading rooted 2.2.2 to rooted 2.3.4 ?

I have a Galaxy S2 with XWKE7 (2.3.3) rooted on it.
How can I upgrade to 2.3.4 and root again ?
In this thread the kernels KH1 and KH4 are tested.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
As I cannot update via the official way "Phone -> Software update" shows 'No update available' and I cannot get KIES connected to my Galaxy.
Can I just flash KH4 rooted over the KE7 rooted with Odin without changing baseband and firmware (so it will not be wiped) ?

Flash full KH4 firmware root with KH4
Or if you want flash KH4 root over KE7 for an upgraded kernel on old firmware KE7 and that does not make sense .

Yes I have it (included in that kernel).
@JJEgan: So you mean I can do this simple step: just flashing the rooted KH4 kernel and that's it ? And leave original baseband (XXKE4) and firmware as is ?

Yes but why only update the kernel you have new kernel old firmware and old modem . But you can do it if you want but it wont be 2.3.4 firmware .

The only reason is to use USB host for the SLD controller software by Chainfire and to run Drive Mount.
Installing firmware does require a complete backup and reinitiializing of the Galaxy which is a real hassl. Or not ?

Where can i find stock baseband, kernal and buildnumber in a uk version ?

my phone recently deleted everything on it, such as kernal and so on. looking around i managed to get my phone to work again, but the stock software i am using is Korean, does any one know how to download a UK stock version of everything, that preferably is unlocked, or vodaphone, as i have been looking for ages, and cant find any, thanks

Sorry mate,bit busy.
Unzip file.No password needed. You will see a file that ends in tar.md5.Put this file in PDA in Odin and select START without selecting anything else. When flash is finished do a factory reset.
