[Q] Set Alarm via Voice Command - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Whenever I try to set an alarm via the stock Voice Command app I am told that "set alarm feature is not supported." - even though the functionality is mentioned in the help section.
Is there a way to get this to work, or alternately, is there other software that will do the job? The google search/voice command app seems to take me directly to search when the command is prefixed with 'set alarm'.

Exactly the same error here. May I ask what firmware version you are using?

Try Voice Actions..Free app on the market (maybe there's a paid version too )

It seems that the Clock app that Samsung provides is the problem, I would guess installing Androids default clock would solve the problem, but that would probably require root access, and I don't know where to find the APK either...

Same problem here. I am on 2.3.5 KI3 Rooted and would love to try installing a stock android clock or something that would fix this!
Any suggestions?

Same here im on on Kl3 2.3.5 rooted

There was a stock android clock app in the market that was compatible. Unfortunately I can't find it for some reason. I did however come across an app in the market that does work. Here's the link https://market.android.com/details?id=com.vp.alarmClockPlusDock&feature=search_result
EDIT: Found it!! It wasn't in the market lol, anyways just install the apk like any other app.

NO Luck!

Installed this. still not supported.

Which one did you install? The market app or the one I attached. I tried both and It did work. Have you updated the voice search app?

Hey guys...I'm on KI3 2.3.5 and with some researching I found an app called alarm clock plus and it works flawless with stock Samsung voice commands.
Just look for it in market place.
Enjoy!!

I only tried it with Voice search. If your using voice command try "alarm clock plus" form the market, it's the link from my post. I'm not sure if that will work with Voice command but you can give it a shot.

I am hesitant to install an "alarm clock" that needs full internet access.
Is there a better way to fix this problem?

there are many apps on the android market..you can use those apps for every action i.e set alarm, update fb status, ask silly ques.. some of them are talktoit, cleverbot, skyvi, iris... try these and choose which is good for you...

Google Now Partially Working

I'm on ConROM v4 (Senseless), and I just got Google Now partially working on my Rezound. The search works by typing but trying to use voice keeps crashing.
No guarantees, but here's what I did:
1. Downloaded the apk here
2. Used Titanium Backup to uninstall Google Search.
3. Removed the Search Bar widget from my homescreen.
4. Install the apk. Reboot
5. Add the search widget back.
6. It's ask to Authorize to your account twice. Agree to both.
7. Use the text search widget. Trying the microphone crashes the app.
Curious if the geniuses here can get voice working.

I can confirm that it works on SlimROM 1.6
Be interesting to see if we can get voice working. With dev's dropping left and right, I can only hope.
There's a few threads elsewhere on XDA about it, one way involves doing build.prop edits, voice is still screwed across the board though.

My guess is the voice component requires the newer API, but it could also just be Sense screwing things up...

That's not the problem. There are build.prop editing threads that change the devices api version, but voice is still shot.

That's because you're not really changing the API at all, just what version it reports. Making it show a higher number does not actually mean your device supports the higher API version!
You can change the version string to make Gingerbread report as Android 4.1 - again, this will not actually bring any Android 4.1 features to gingerbread.

Google Now launcher --press home, then say "Ok Google".

Hey guys,
I really wanted the "Ok Google" from home like I have on my Nexus. After doing this, you can press the home button to wake the device up and then simply say "ok google, remind me to talk to my boss when I get to work". It takes specific versions of the apps to make this work and I located a combination that wiill do the job.
You will need:
Google Play Store installed
Google Search installed from Play Store.
A copy of ADB
Installation
Un-tar.gz this file with whatever program you use for file compression, to a folder called "GoogleLauncher"
Navigate to the "GoogleLauncher" folder,
Using your copy of ADB, type "adb remount", then "adb push *.apk /system/app"
Go to Settings>System>Accessibility>Quick Boot and disable Quick Boot
Reboot your watch.
Conclusion
This worked for me. If you're having problems or you'd like this turned into an app you can download and press a button to perform the tasks above, let me know.

On my S2, Google Now is both part of the Google Launcher and Google Search. For those of us running Loki's EnSec + Operative, does the Google Launcher below replace SmartLauncher as the home action? In other words, are we giving up SmartLauncher / WP8 Launcher / OUI2.0 to get Google Now?

What about making it a flashable zip? Operative includes TWRP, so we should be able to flash system APKs.
Thanks!

Jaskru, I was wondering the same thing. I did what you suggest above back in February, and the OK Google launcher has been an option ever since. Works better than typing, for most stuff.
I am otherwise on unrooted stock, though I do not suggest others use their TrueSmarts unpatched at all.

I remember when we were first trying to do it before Loki came out with the patch + operative we had to push services (velvet.apk) as a system app... Now, when you get the device and install Loki's patch (+operative I think) or Dees rom that has that stuff in it too you have the up to date velvet.apk as a system app. And, of course you need the search.apk too.
That's where I was coming from. If someone is going to try and push an apk as a system app, they may as well just run Loki's script instead. Thanks for sharing though.
Hey @AdamOutler, Have you seen any differences with the battery life? Thanks for the Post, I got it setup the first try. I was just curious as to what I should expect?
Update: For a simple launcher, this is pretty nice. The apps and the drawer fit nicer then Apex did, even with a ton of setup. Smart launcher is nicer than apex, but there's a lot of setup as well. I just launched the Now launcher and it just worked. My apps look nice and the drawer is clear and easy to read. Now all i want is for my watch to do the notifications like the android wear demo!
you need a computer to run this correct? for the adb part of it? any change you guys can post a screenshot of your launcher so i could see how it looks prior to installing it later when i get home. been switching between nova and wplauncher8
Thanks,

Stop trolling my thread. You're wrong and now you're looking for loopholes. No, its not in the operative patch. I don't create threads for no reason. Judging by your Post to Thanks ratio, you post unhelpful comments like this one all the time. Just stop it. You're being unhelpful, cluttering the thread, and adding misleading information.

It just looks like a standard Nexus AOSP launcher with a 4x4 grid. It's small, but usable.
Wasn't trying to troll Adam. Was just participating. Guess it was just magic then for me when I flashed the patch and dl and installed the apk with no issues. Sorry for sharing my experience with you.
Is anyone getting a substantial amount of google search crashes since setting this up?
I have been using Google Now as one of my three alternative launchers for over a month. It has never crashed. I say, "OK Google.....launch Tapatalk" and it does. "OK Google....call susan" and it asks me whether to use Phone or Skype (Skype started working for me on the TS after some recent update), then places the call.
To enable this, I followed the same guide I used to get Google Now onto my Nexus4 before KitKat was released for it. Best I can remember I just side loaded a couple of apk's using a guide on some android web site like Android Police maybe. It just worked, appearing as a launcher option with the other two I already had in place.
All this was on my stock insecure unpatched 1/8/1900 with the shipping 20140120 firmware and Google Play side loaded as usual.
I've got screencaps ! They are on the TS though, and I cannot type on that thing hardly still.

No, I have it installed but I have 2 phone apps in app drawer, you can't disable the phone app that comes with the phone.
Just tried it. Moto assist does not work using the Google dialer. So when I'm home, the phone no longer let's me answer the phone with voice activation. I use that more than I'd use the Google dialer features, thanks for posting the apk though.

I'm pretty sure you need more than just the dialer apk to get that functionality.
I was looking for a way to have that functionality as well, and after a little research I found out that the location search on the dialer is an exclusive feature for Nexus and Google Play devices :crying: . I had that on my Galaxy S4 GPE and I liked that feature too. Found a post on Android Police explaining on how to make it work on other devices, but a lot of bugs can happen.

I've updated to Android 5.0 out of the box when I got my phone few days ago. - This morning I've installed the 1.1 Dialer APK linked in this thread, however, something did not work, when I pull up the app info on the only icon in the drawer it tells me version 5.0-10.
However, if I go into Settings > Apps > (Downloaded Tab) I see Dialer 1.1 is installed, under (All) I still see Dialer, and version lists 5.0-10 - The 5.0-10 is the stock moto one for Android 5.0, and this one does not have the caller ID, reverse look-up.
I might try disabling the 5.0-10, but from what I understand, that messes with the phone in a big way?

I'm not sure what can happen if you disable the stock dialer app, maybe prevent you from making/receiving phone calls if you don't have another dialer app installed? That's just my guess though, never actually did it to check. Were you able to make the location feature work?

I was unable to get the Caller ID to work, the phone shows me that they are both installed ( Settings > Apps ) - however, the one that came with the stock/factory ROM is preventing the 1.1 version for loading/showing at all in the apps list, so short of disabling the stock one (which I understand is not something one should be doing), I can't even open/access the offloaded one (Dialer 1.1)
I might get brave and disable the stock dialer, see if the Dialer 1.1 surfaces in the apps list.

I think that no major issues should arise as long as you just freeze the app and not uninstall it with titanium backup, but again, that's just my wild guess haha. Anyway, leave us posted about your findings.

OK - Got it Working!!! - Not Really, it crashes.
Step #1 - Download/Install the APK from this post
(will need a file manager to browse the phone to where the APK was downloaded to)
Step #2 - Create shortcut for Google Dialer 1.1 that you just installed using QuickShortcutMaker
Detailed instructions are HERE - Start at Step #3 on that page.
(Stock Dialer should be the only one showing in app drawer, you need to make a shortcut for the Google Dialer 1.1)
Step #3 - Win!!!
Some Pictures as Proof in Puddin
Stock Moto X Lollipop 5.0 Dialer / Settings
Nexus Android 5.x Dialer (Dialer 1.1) / Settings / Results
Google Dialer 1.1 shortcut above Stock Dialer shortcut.
Since trying this app initially, I've rooted my phone, and I've tried to follow steps outlined in (http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-to/install-new-kitkat-4-4-3-dialer-your-htc-one-0155515/), specifically Step 2 - Where the app is installed in /system/priv-app/ folders - I am sad to report this does not work still on MotoX
As previous users suggested, there are probably those other services the Dialer depends on that need to be installed.
I'll update if I find a solution.
I don't know if it matters but I had a Nexus 6 before getting my Moto X. The Google Dialer was version 2.0. I didn't grab the APK before returning it but I'm sure it could be pulled from the factory image.
I was unable to make this work, root/non-root.
Got it working, here -http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/themes-apps/mod-google-dialer-messenger-pure-edition-t2982408

MultiWindow

Hello, Does anyone know how to manage the apps in multiwindow. I would like to get rid of some of the stock apps in there with some apps that Ive dwnladed from the play store. I am rooted, and running a custom recovery with ZV6 rom.
Thanks
Also, have another quick question that doesn't really pertain to multiwindow but I hate to start a new thread for just one question. Is our G3 capable of using the new wifi frequency? I believe its the 802.11ac I googled this but have not been able to find the answer.
Also, I checked enable voice recorder in I believe in G3 tweaksbox but when I make a voice recording and try to play it back, it keeps saying unsupported file type. What do I use to listen to my recording?

For you wifi and voice recording question, I dont know about that. But as far as multiwindow apps, I you want it to show ALL of your apps instead of just the stock ones...you have to go to build.prop and its a line that says "persist.splitwindow.support_all" and change it from false to true. That way you'll get all of your apps to show, I dont know about it NOT showing certain ones, but at least that way you'll get more than just your stock apps in split window.

You don't need to use the Flex multiwindow. We have it on our phone. I've already made the mod on both Barren and BarRin.
I made a flashable build.prop for ZV6 It has multiwindow and some other tweaks. If you want to use it it's here. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001614835

Google Play store says it's not compatible; I've tried various APKs and when I go to install they also say incompatible.
That sucks. What might be the cause? I know the S8 can install it.

When you go to the link, scroll down to "Download APK". Don't install a newer version, because it probably won't work. Or if you do and it does work, let me know.
It's the stock Google dialer, and everything works. I've used it on several phones lately. When you install it, make sure and go to your settings menu, then apps, then Configure apps, and then set the new dialer to be your default phone app. Easy as pie

Thanks for this. Planning on picking up my V30 today and want to eliminate that ugly ass LG dialer immediately.
This is the newest update for the Google dialer for non pixel phones. Works great. https://www.google.com/amp/s/forum....id/apps-games/app-google-dialer-t3557412/amp/

This is what I'm looking for too. The Duo integration is what I'm really after.

As per the notes on the thread, this older version is the only one that fully works on Non-Nexus devices. The newer patched versions may install but are often buggy and lack the necessary framework for spam call rejection and other features.
oh wow...i didn't realize the dialer required framework and such to use those features. kind of second guessing my ordering of the V30 now...
Perhaps this

This old version works for me, but no with Bluetooth, so I cannot use the phone on my car. Stock ugly dialer work well with Bluetooth

Bluetooth works in my car with the dialer version 7 point something, same one highlighted in this thread. Permissions maybe?

Does your dialer have the voicemail tab? I'm on T-Mobile and have to use T-Mobile's Visual Voicemail app on my unlocked phone. I couldn't get the voicemail tab to show up and there was nothing in the settings that could activate it. I tried a SIM card pulling trick I saw on Reddit but that didn't do it either. Thanks!

I can check when I get home tonight. I’m using my iPhone right now. I’ll let you know later.
Edit...I'm home now and looking at my V30 with the Google dialer, and I don't see a voicemail tab anywhere.
How did you enable call screen or dialing screen to stock one? On my v30 only the dialer screen showsup and the calling screen is LG one.

You have to ensure that the Google Phone app is actually properly set as your default Dialer/Phone app. I had a similar problem until I did that. Under settings, go to apps and then click on "Configure apps" under the three dot overflow menu on the top right. Make sure the correct app is listed under "Phone app".

Thank you thank you THANK YOU! :good:
Been searching for days to find an apk that works on my LG V20, and this works perfectly - even location search.
