[Q] Flashing latest SBF over Alien ROM? - Motorola Photon 4G

Hi guys, thanks in advance for your help!
Just a (hopefully) quick question:
Currently I am running Alien ROM/Theme and obviously unlocked, rooted, and have flashed CWM Recovery. If I were to flash the latest 198_6 SBF, what would happen?
I was under the impression that I would need to reinstall stock recovery prior to flashing the SBF, or am I just completely wrong here? I don't really understand what would be affected except that I would probably be relocked and unrooted..?
Thanks again guys!
K

You would lose cwm, unlock, and root, taking you back to the latest stock.. However your data partition (apps, contacts, etc) will remain untouched.

[Q] - Flashed to GingerBlur, I still get update notifications. What is wrong?

So I rooted my phone about a month ago and didn't bother to do an OTA update. So I didn't think this one through all the way and I am not sure if I actually flashed 1.8.3 onto the phone.
When I look at the phone information the System Version says:
Version.4.1.83.MB860.ATT.en.US
GingerBlur appears to work just fine...how ever I can't reboot into clockwork recovery mode any more...
I've had good luck with my Captivate but this atrix is proving to be a challenge.
Is their any way that I can flash back and start over? Or am I **** out of luck on this one?
Just found an answer to my problem

I still am not understanding. So did you end up just reflashing? or did you figure a way to turn it off ( I am having the same issue, but can boot into recovery)

Yea I just ended up reflashing all together. Backed up all of my pictures, contacts, etc... and then reflashed the phone to 1.2.6 and OTA updated all the way to 1.8.3
Now to root and flash to gingerblur
Alternatively, you can use TiBU to freeze "updater".

Because I didn't think about that and I figured it was safer to go all the way back.
Well, I ended up doing what you did and just flashed to 1.28 and OTA'd up and now it works fine. So you may have done the better thing anyways... its not like the OTA's take that long.

[Q] Will I lose everything when upgrading to prerooted GB?

I have a Droid X2 running Android 2.2.2 that's completely bone stock (no root, nothing). I want to upgrade to the new prerooted Gingerbread build, and from what I've been reading, I'll need to root my current Android 2.2.2 using Gingerbreak, install bootstrap and then upgrade to the new prerooted Gingerbread build.
My question is, will the update essentially reset my phone and cause me to lose all installed apps, contacts, photos, text messages, etc? I'm new to the Android world and this will be my first time flashing an Android phone.. I've searched but I can't seem to find anything regarding this particular question.
Thank you for your time!

The only way to lose it with the update is if you wipe data/ factory reset it, other wise no, i kept everything Hope that helps, happy flashing xDD
I Highly recommend making a backup of everything (2.2.2) if you decide to sbf back, and then restoring ( after rooting, and cwm)
Thanks, that's an excellent idea - I'll look into backing everything up first. When I root my current Android 2.2.2 using Gingerbreak, install bootstrap and then upgrade to the new prerooted Gingerbread build, I won't need to wipe data/factory reset the phone, will I? Thank you!
I upgraded and all my apps stayed even the root ones.

[Q] Can I restore flashed things with a hard reset?

My 3vo is kinda broken I think, the battery life is super bad and it just has a lot of software related problems. Now I did S-off and root, and then didn't flash a rom, but I did flash bootscoot, which I think started it all. Now what I want is to restore my phone, and delete things like bootscoot. Can I do that with a hard reset? Remember, I want to keep S-off and root, but the rest can go. What do?
I have GSM 3vo btw, so there is no good stable rom I can flash, so I really want to keep the stock rom I have on there now, but hard reset AND restore flashes stuff. No way to do this?
Dangit, title is stupid. Don't want to restore flashed things, but delete them (restore to stock), Like bootscoot moved some system files, will they be moved back?
What the hell is a bootscoot?
To restore your phone completely back to how it was and keep S-OFF+root+busybox etc., first run the superwipe.
Here is team Xron's superwipe: http://www.androidfilehost.com/xron/Betas
Download the one titled "XRONFORMATALL"
Next, download a stable ROM. I couldn't find the stock 2.08 rooted ROM but you may be able to find it if you keep looking.
Now, place both zips on your SD card. Boot into recovery. First, wipe data. Then, flash the superwipe. After that, flash the ROM you downloaded and boot up.
You should now have nothing on your phone except the ROM you installed.
--------------------------------------------------------------
If you want to return to complete stock 1.13 with S-ON and no root, you can flash the PG86IMG located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194053
Flash the superwipe and wipe through recovery if you want just to be safe.

Bootscoot is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17748500
Ah damn this is the only way? That is not what I want...
I have the stock rom, but with root options. So what if I do a hard reset? It won't restore the flashed things? And what if I do a hard reset via cwm recovery? That won't fix things either. I just want to keep the stock rom, but with superuser. BTW I have GSM so not any good roms yet.

My Suggestion would be to just make a Nandroid backup of your phones Stock Rom, Then after you have the backup made try Wiping Data (Factory Reset) Also there PM86IMG Images that can be Ran from the SDCard which will Always give you back the OTA Updates!

[Q] Root and Install CWM Without Data Loss?

I'm reading the below post about rooting for the first time, currently on the bone stock gingerbread OTA.
HOW TO go to stock, OR from stock, and then flash any ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053567
Will data be wiped when rooting and flashing CWM? I want to root, install CWM, then immediately make a nandroid so I can always go back to my current setup. Is this possible?
Thanks in advance!

the only way data ever gets wiped is if you odin a stock package or wipe data in cwm...so no you wont lose your data.

[Q] What's the best way to remove all data?

My Rezound is unlocked, rooted, stock rom and S-on. I want to sell it but first I want to remove all of my data and get it as close to factory as I can. From what I can gather the only way to get it back completely stock is to be S-off but that process seems a little much for me to try. Which of these 3 options is best for what I'm trying to do? A factory reset in the bootloader, a complete wipe of everything in TWRP or factory reset on the phone's settings? Thanks

Without RUUing, which requires S-OFF, and assuming you have the correct firmware/radios, the best bet I have found is a total wipe in TWRP (everything, including internal but not external SD), then install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2260154, it is a COMPLETELY stock 4.5.605.14 ROM with root added, after that is flashed, boot into TWRP again and wipe the external SD. It should be stock enough to sell.
If you want, you can even flash the stock recovery, but it shouldn't be necessary as long as you let the buyer know what you have done to it... I don't expect any more OTAs from VZW for this device, so it should be good to go.

Thanks a million. That was perfect and easy. I'm thinking maybe I'll just keep it for a backup instead of selling it.
