Looking for a messaging APK that can be side loaded to my jetstream. If I send a text to my # from my phone it goes through but I have nothing to view it with... Or a good alternative app. I have text plus but want to use my number and go native if possible

How does messaging work when I only have a data plan? My messages do not go through. no notifications or such for them.

You can use text plus in the market or other apps. I installed text plus yesterday and it works fine, I would just prefer it being native.
PS. You can also use an art app that well connect your phone to your tab and let you sync both.

not sure. I'm assuming you would need more than just the messaging apk though. I'll look into it.

If you have an at&t smartphone just download at&t messages. Thats what i use. It syncs text messages between my phone, tablet and pc, and i can send/receive from any of them.

Installed handcent. Works fine. Alittle buggy with the contact sync'n but works. Any way to get the MMS to work? I know the Jetstream is locked down to at&t which is fine but you can't edit the APN to ad the MMS settings. I'm sure it will work if we can just edit that APN. I know the tablet can be unlocked to allow this with other carriers but how do we unlock it with at&t to be able to edit the apn settings..?
What extra fees would be applied to my account if I used this?
I only have a data account. No phone.
I use Sprint for cel phone.
I don't see a need to use the messaging on my jetstream. It would be awesome to sync my texts from Sprint, but thats probably impossible coming across two networks like that.
If you are not using att sync, which only works with an att phone, you get charge a per text fee

There are several Messaging options from your JetStream
Whatsapp - Installed & working on my device - allow sending to & from the device to any other mobiles (Text/ pictures / clips) - works perfect - No need to root or anything.
GO SMS Pro - works perfect on my rooted JetStream - with Notification of incoming SMS, allow me to send SMS from my JetStream to any mobile or receive SMS directly to my JetStream - I am using an ORANGE sim card after i SIM Unlocked my Jetstream.
Also after unlocking the Bootloader and root , i have the Phone icon, with the Phone dialer, allow me to dial from my Jetstream - generate a call, but no voice on both sides (this still need to be solved ) .
i installed handcent today and finally was able to create my online ATT account. I had to send a text to my device but it didn't have a native sms app to receive the text from ATT. (good job ATT).
But...handcent is just an overload for me. Could they possibly add another option for customizaton? Lol it would take me a whole day to go through the settings menu. I would prefer something plain and simple. Just my taste.

I found an app that lets you easily make and receive phone calls thru your Google Voice Number. (assuming you have data connection)
GrooVe IP
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gvoip&feature=search_result
I tried it and it works great... even works with the Flyer in speakerphone mode.
Its $3.99 in the Market... and may be worth it for some. Especially if you want to multitask on your Flyer or are oversears.
If you dont have a Google Voice Number, they are free.
Thanks for the tip.
And how does the mic on the flyer works for calls? Do you have speak close to the device?
Do people say they hear echo if you speak with them without a headset?
Thanks. I am using this app for my Galaxy Tab

How so I could use some help setting everything up
Edit Never mind I got it set up but to help out others
1)set up Google voice
2 install app
3 On Gmail you have to install the video chat plugin for your browser. Once you do this go to google voice
4 on GV go to voice settings under the gear icon
5 set up to forward to GTalk
6 Sign on on the phone
7 THERE YOU GO.
I tested on 3g/4g and on Wifi and it works great when you have a strong internet

you have to install the browser plugin first then once its installed hit the call button in GMail and make a test call. Once this is done go to google voice and hit the gear icon and hit the calls tab, then the option for Gtalk should show up

Edit: Nevermind...Didn't realize there were 2 places for GTalk. One on the left and one in the middle. I hadn't changed the one in the middle to forward. Thanks for this it's working like a charm. Just wish the incoming call ringer was a little louder!

edit... this actually works just had to fiddle a bit in google voice and afterwards was not getting incoming calls to work figured maybe i should log out of gv on my computer and bammm evo view started getting the calls so make sure to log out of google voice otherwise thats where the calls will go first before actually going to the tab.......great job guys made my evo tab just friggin more awesome....
now if they would find a way to root flyer, view would be bonus....
I don't know if anyone will use this method but I use QIK to video chat on WiFi and also while tethered to my tmobile cliq2. But it could be because I have tmobile and I remember typeing in my phone number. Just a suggestion.

Nothing like Google Voice. Sucks that you don't get a threaded view like other SMS apps. It sorts the messages by days. But wouldn't trade it for any other app. Nay sayers should give it a shot.

i tried a bunch of apps on my touchpad but never found one that works as good as google voice. my touchpad and phone are both set up with google voice and it's integrated with my sprint phone number so no weird number to deal with. works great for me. only thing is once you integrate, no more going back to vvm unless you call sprint to get it set back up.

Just an fyi: If you want the push notifications, you have to press the version number like 10 times or something (I didnt count I just hammered it until the option became available lol)
TexTab without question. I love it, and the UI is nice and simple (uses BlueTooth). It uses your messaging app in that it uses your phone's signal and leaves the text message in the history of the conversation on your phone.

Works very well and integrates SMS, MMS and Voicemail into one app - it's sort of a "super" visual voicemail" - plays back voicemails nicely. I prefer it to VVM
Lol voicemail. What an ancient concept.
TextSecure for SMS and mms. Encrypts your texts locally and if the receiver is using textsecure as well then the text can be encrypted from end to end.
I won't go into detail about why I need this but there it is. Use it

I just set this up using DeskSMS / TabletSMS. The text messages send via my phone (and are also visible on my PC via a Chrome plug-in). I am very happy with it.
Of course it requires the phone to have an active data connection as well as the tablet, so that might not be what you are looking for.
Is there way to use tablet talk without the headset? Talk through the tablets microphone and hear through the speakers?
