I got a vodafone branded sgs2 (locked with vodafone) would flashing XWKI8 or XXKI3 from Intratech's rom page be ok?
I read somewhere you should only flash unlocked phones.
I currently have my phone rooted with unsecure BUKG2 stock kernel, other than that its untouched from purchase.
Current firmware:
Gingerbread 2.3.3
PDA:KG2
PHONE:KG1
CSC:KE2 (VOD)
Thanks

Earlier in June I received a Galaxy SII that was unbranded, but I had to return it due to a little circle that seemed to be 'burned' into the screen.
Now I finally received my new Galaxy S II but to my great disappointment it's loaded with Vodafone crap, and branded:
PDA:KE5 / PHONE:KE1 / CSC:KE2 (VDF)
I want to replace the branded FW for the official non branded FW and I was wondering how to do that.. I went to this thread but i'm not quite sure which FW i'll need.. Does anyone happen to know?
Use the XEN version of XWKF3 firmware, it's for the Netherlands.
As intratech said flag stock unbranded firmware for your country
You can also try latest 2.3.4 based roms as batista 70, cognition or vilian
Search on the development section
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Thanks for the quick replies, i'm downloading the Kernel and FW now, but before I get to work with that:
how do i backup the complete kernel/fw of my phone as it is right now, in case I ever have to send it in for repairs and don't want to void my warranty?
Will I be able to update future firmwares with KIES or will i have to keep doing it manually once I install the unbranded firmware?
After flashing the XWKF3 XEN firmware on my phone instructions say i need to flash the insecure kernel before i can flash the stock XWKF3 kernel. I was wondering which Chainfire version I have to get. I think it's the KF3 one from this post but I'd like to make very sure before I start doing things.
Then after flashing the Chainfire kf3 kernel I can use Odin in the same way to flash the stock KF3 kernel, correct?
Once all this is done, will KIES recognise my phone and offer me updates when they become available or will i have to keep doing it manually?
Is it possible to backup my current FW/Kernel with Odin so that I can put those back on in case I ever need to return my phone for repairs and don't want to get any trouble with warranty?
I bought a SGII off ebay and after a few hours of reading I'm totally confused about how to debrand the phone. The original owner received the phone from Vodafone Ireland and rooted it to unlock it. Below are the phone specs
Android- 2.3.3
Baseband version- I9100BUKG1
Kernel-2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE2-CL187606 root-DELL101#2
Build- GINGERBREAD.BUKG2
I just want to get rid of all the vodafone software and other bloatware. Im not interested in rooting the phone.
From my research I should go for the latest XEU firmware (Im in Malta, Europe) which is XWKF3
GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWKF3_I9100XXKE7_I9100XEUKD1
Is this correct? It seems older than what I have.. I dont mind, like I said I just want to debrand without ending up bricking the device. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any stock rom removes branded stuff .

KG6 2.3.4
XXKG6
Android 2.3.4

This package has: PDA:XXKG6| PHONE: XXKG6| CSC:XEUKD1

Thanks JJEgan, and just to confirm, the only downside to using these Franenstein builds is that I cannot use Kies to upgrade the firmware?
I just installed the firmware below as advised but I'm still seeing all the Vodafone bloatware. Everything went perfectly s described in the official thread. Did I do something wrong?
Factory reset your phone .
Phone should now be
PDA:XXKG6| Baseband : XXKG6| CSC:XEUKD1

Thanks, that worked perfectly!
Hi
Was gonna try the official samsung rom from here
http://www.sammobile.com/showthread.php?t=23
Im in the UK running a mix of XWKJ2 PDA with a baseband of XXKI4 on the O2 network
Which would be the best (latest) Rom from that page.
I was going to use
I9100XWKJ3 ## 2.3.5 2011 October CSC - XEN
Not sure what CSC I would need and I presume the KJ3 is the latest out with XW being a uk code?
Is the baseband upgrade needed/worth it?
Thanks

You will find only the GB official version upto 2.3.6 which you can find on the link below in my signature stock roms...
you have to use ODIN to flash the same without rooting the phone

There is no 2.3.7 for the I9100. Most recent Gingerbread release for this phone was 2.3.6.
You don't need root to flash stock firmwares via Odin, and stock firmware flashes do not increase the counter.
Download from Intratech's official stock firmware thread, or from www.samfirmware.com, and follow the instructions on how to flash via Odin.

Couple of places you can get stock roms: Samfirmware.com, here (this site is better than Samfirmware IMHO) or with the PC version of Checkfus (search for it on Google/XDA).
Yes, you can install a stock rom for any region, but with one caveat. If you install a rom that isn't for your region, you may not be able to get future OTA updates from your carrier. Which isn't really a big deal because if your carrier does release a stock rom for your region, you could always download it with Checkfus & flash it with Odin (like almost everyone does on here).
