[Q] Faulty Touchscreen - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys.
I *Believe* I have a faulty touchscreen on my S2.
Symptoms:
- mostly on resume, but sometimes in use screen becomes choppy
- apps are not particularly slow to load
- no pattern to it
- I ran *#0*# and did the touch test, and indeed touches are detected all over the place or not in a straight line if running finger down the glass.
- problem solves itself.
today I captured using ADB what kmsg said, listed below. I just bought a jig, so hopefully samsung should accept a return on it if needed. pls advise if you see something, could not find anything on the interweb.
thanks a lot.

interestingly, firmware version shows: 0x16 0x16, and touch key fw shows 0x4 0x7. I think these are errors?
this was an ebay purchase, so is there a chance they've been screwed up in some way before I got the phone? thanks so much.

getting desperate, so have run TSP firmware update, and watching the results on ADB.
there is immediate differences, and the TSP is not suffering the repeated re-cal's...
monitoring now.

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

not fixed
ordered jig from ebay, going to get it repaired under warranty I hope.

just followup. With a little coercement the service centre changed the screen and it works beautifully now.

HTC Hero Bottom Of Screen Not Responding

my girlfriends heros touch screen has stoped responding for instance if i press menu i can press scenes but while im in scenes and select a new one i cant press done i have to use the scroll ball... anyone had anything like this??
any help greatly appreciated
thanks
It happened to mine, the only thing you can do is send it back. It sucks but the screen is faulty.
Send her round with it........... I'll see if I can help
Seriously though, buggered screen I'm afraid..
Had the same problem. Sent it in for a repair and got it back in 10 days.
I've got the same problem!!! I used to say that it was the best phone I've ever used but my mind is changed! :S
Same problem here. I can type with the top and middle of the screen, but the bottom is less responsive/sometimes non-responsive, and backspace doesn't work. Dave Hagenaars: Did you have to pay for the repair?
Aslong as it's under warranty HTC will repair it for nothing. It seems it's a fairly common fault. It come's back with a sticker asking you not to leave the phone in your pocket whilst sat down. Bless them.

same problem here, i need put it back everything to stock before going to t-mobile shop. did u go to t-mobile shop or u just called them? thanks in advance
My touchscreen works fine when holding it upright, but when the phone is laying down it gets really unresponsive. Anyone else having this issue?
Since it works sometimes, I'm guessing it must be software issue...
Hey,
Sometimes my HTC Hero acts weird.
Sense starts to jump between 2 screens (as if I'm constantly giving it input) when I'm doing nothing.
Also sometimes a press anywhere on the screen makes the phone think I'm pressing something at the bottom.
And last but not least, sometimes when I try to type something I lose the function of both the bottom left and right part of the screen, meaning I can't use backspace, the L, P, A and other various keys that reside there.
Does anyone also have these problems?
Is this hardware related or can I hope that this problem is solved with the 2.0/2.1 update?
Mine does the same
It happens to me as well, and i bought it abroad so no repair for me
Also - mine does the CRAZIEST thing - i can move the screen without touching it!! This is crazy - i just hover the finger above it and i can move the desktop left to right ("feature" only available when teh screen starts to jerk around)
I have no idea what to do - it drives me crazy - all my presses are wrong, and some dont work at all!!
I have figured a "way" to make it normal for a while, i just press the end key to close the screen and then turn it on again and it kinda, kinda, works again.
anybody there knows whats is the fault? if its software or hardware?, anyway i sent mine for repair and still waiting.
It's a hardware issue, no doubt. I have experienced all the issues described in the last 3-4 posts. Will have to send it in for repair after christmas - but I'll probably have to get back to the original firmware first.

well i took off the screen protector, and still pretty the same issue. anyway but now atleast it's under repair. so waiting for the phone i hope to get it before xmas.
I have a dead spot around the O and L key when typing messages in the landscape position.
Should I back-up my phone and remove all private data when getting it repaired?
had a sticker - same thing
i removed mine as well - and same thing.
talked to HTC - but they dont have a repair place in Israel - so i will have to send it abroad to the UK maybe for repair.
I still dont understand - if this is a hardware issue - how does it fix it for a short while when i press the "end" key, and re-open the phone.
if the hardware was defective it should always happen and wont be "fixed" for a short while.
Same problem, dont believe it is hardware
Got the same problem when i update to another rom LOX or Hikari.
Wiping and going back to Modaco 3.0 and everything is perfect again. Have the feeling that it has also something to do with the radio images
Maybe also something to do in which order the roms and radio's are updated. Still testing but got the same problem. Reverting back to my modaco 3.0 nandroid and everything works again.
For me this is the stable version where the bottom line works:
Firmware: 1.5
Radio: 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18
Kernel:2.6.27-mck-teknologist-1.9
Build:Modaco Custom Rom 3.0 Core, SSH
Softwareversion:1.0.0A6288

I have a similiar problem on my Hero. Did you find a solution to it?
What's weird is that it isn't constant. It comes and goes.
But when flashing the cya mod with 2.1 my phone was stuck on the enter sim card code screen.. Could not press OK to continue.

[Q] unrooted Tab screen freezing

I apologize if this has already been hashed out, but I have combed through the archives and didn't find any solutions.
I got my Tab last July. Right out of the box, it had some sort of screen issue... if I move it physically at all, the screen freezes and the touchscreen is unresponsive. I have to hit the power button off/on to get things moving again. It happens all the time, and basically makes it unpleasant to use.
This unit is unrooted, and has all the stock updates. Do you think rooting and trying a new ROM might fix my problem?
I've been trying to submit a repair request through Samsung, and it will not recognize my serial number.
We also have a Viewsonic G-Tab and a Nook Color, both rooted. It's frustrating when the tablets that cost half of what mine did work so much better...
Thanks so much for any and all help; I'm kind of at a loss these days.
Have you factory reset it? No success? If so, take it back to where you purchased it if you can. That's likely sounds hardware related.

Looks like its hardware issue, the sensors arent reading your touch

[Q] Ghost touchs depending how you hold the tablet

Hi guys,
Device: Version is G9 101 TURBO 8GB (A101).
Issue: depending on how you hold the tablet, lots of ghost touchs appear on screen and cause undesired touches. Example: if I hold it on the left side and try to use Google Maps, maps get crazy and start moving all over and zooming in/out.
I see some people complaining about it, but it's still difficult to see if it's a hardware or software problem.
Some people say reverting back to firmware 3.2.80 fix the problem, but I tried to downgrade the firmware with official and rooted versions and been unsuccessful (official gives error 221 because you can't officially downgrade and the rooted one flashes Archos logo nonstop).
I also tried to install CyanogenMod but installation fails after I select the ZIP file (stops at creating data ext4). Maybe because it's not rooted (I only have SDE installed).
Others apparently sent it to Archos for repair but I haven't seen the results - did them fix the problem?
If you experienced this issue, could you please post your solution?
Thank you!

Just a follow up: I went back to the store and replaced for another one (same model) and this one works perfectly.
If it matters, the first one had serial number beginning with PR13 and the new one has PR08... maybe it helps someone.
I actually have the same problem. My A101 G9 got its LCD broken some time ago, I ordered a new display and replaced it myself (because Archos assistance was really awful, they sent me the tablet back with the transport costs added only) and now i had this strange issue in the bottom right corner. It's now impossible to use. I thik it's a digitizer glass issue, can you help me?
hmmm... I have no idea what might being happening there...
In my case I replaced the unit for another one and it's been working fine BUT after charging I noticed I might get ghost touchs in the corner too but in that case calibrating (inside Settings > Repair) fix the issue.
The unit I had before, nothing was fixing... so probably a hardware problem.

How do I update firmware of touchscreen keys

Hello all,
I'm a complete phone idiot! I know absolutely nothing. One day my screen died. I bought a new one from an online shop. Alas, the two illuminated back and settings touch screen button bits don't light up or work. The main centre switched button does work though.
I've type *#2663# and I enter the firmware update bit. I have Phone TSP: 0x10, Part TSP 0x10, phone TK 0x4 and part TK 0x0. I imagine I need to "Touch key FW update". Alas, my phone sits there for eternity and does no such updating.
I believe this is because the SGS2 doesn't allow (is bugged) with this after Froyo (what ever that is)? My phone is running 4.1.2 OS. I haven't rooted, or done anything fancy with it.
What do I do? Excluding swapping the screen again - which I'm getting bored of.
Cheers,
Glen.

Probably some wire not attached right while they were fixing your screen, they may have forgot to do something, make a recheck of the hardware.
I don't think it's a physical issue, I have taken it back apart and all seems ok. I thought the fact that the home button works was an indicator that the card was functional.
Besides which, either way, how would one update the firmware?
What has inspired me is:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/phone-freezes-touch-screen-firmware-t1433958
This is what my mobile is doing with the touch key update. VisionSpace refers to flashing to Froyo or Gingerbread. How do I do this?
Cheers,
Glen.

galaxy alpha issues

Hi everybody i am asking for advice on trying to repair a phone for a family member the phone is a galaxy alpha F variant UK stock rom, factory unlocked and unrooted the problem started after finishing a call the handset was left un attended and when it was later picked up the screen was black but does not appear broken aywhere and does not appear to respond to touch
i have tried un successfully to get it into recovery or download modes the handset turns on and the blue lights come on and you can hear the start up tone but see nothing on screen, it also charges and i have tried a new battery, odin does recognise a device but as i cant get it into download i cant flash a stock rom which i have already downloaded.
So my question is, is there any software that i can download to diagnose whether or not the screen is dead or whether it is a f/w issue or is there a way around this where i can use a different tool to get into the handset and flash a new stock rom in case the current f/w is corrupted
Thanks in advance for any useful help and advice
Please understand that i am a newb to this so if i have made some mistakes or my questions have been answered elsewhere previously i do apologise
I think it seems pretty obvious that the problem is the display itself
Hi BigHands,
I faced a problem having the exact same symptoms as yours twice in the last few month: screen was staying black but phone reacted to some "external" actions (ON/OFF), blue light.
Not sure what happened exactly, but removing the battery and trying to restart the phone finally brought the device back to life after trying more than than 10 times!!!
So in my case, the display was probably not the (only) root cause.
Really weird however that I needed to reboot the phone >10times to make it work: usually when software is screwed either one single power cycle will bring the device back to life or it will never power up again!
Anyways, a FW issue is still a possibility considering the number of bug this phone has (for the price it was sold, that phone is definitely the worse gadget I ever owned!)... But it seems there is a bunch of FW updates on going on this model accross the world, so there is still a little hope things might improve... Samsumg may have woken up; who knows...
