CM7 and Camcorder - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I installed the CM7 rom, everything is working fine that I can tell except when i switch from camera to video camera the app freezes and force closes. I am a noob to the android rooting community, not sure if this is known or not, I have looked around the forum and found some stuff pertaining to different devices but they are also mostly year old posts, this the at&t samsung Galaxy s II forum is fairly new there isnt much that is of help here, any one else experiencing this?

Did you try to wipe cache, and data, then re-flash the rom?
This is the most stable one (just in case) http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/update-cm-7.1.0-Galaxys2ATT-signed.zip

Yes before I installed any rom, I back up my current, than wipe data and cache and than install the rom, I am also using the correct rom.. by reflashing you mean just installing the rom from sdcard correct?

That's correct. Also, go under Advanced in recovery and clear the Dalvic Cache. It can leave behind tidbits that can cause problems as well.

very very strange, I mean if I am wiping everything I am technically doing it from scratch correct? or would i possibly benefit from doing a complete factory restore and totally deleting everything (including rom back ups, downloads, titanium backups, etc.)

Its very odd to have a problem with the camera, even after re-flashing, and doing all that that you've done. It should've worked. Have you tried flashing a different rom, one other than cm7? Because if it still doesn't work on other roms, then you definitely have a hardware problem with the camera.

Try installing the Camcorder Shortcut App

If you install Camcorder Shortcut App from the market it resolves the issue. Just open the app and use it once and then close out. When you open up the stock camera app the camcorder option should work.

this worked for me aswell, thank you a million!

I installed the app and it works in that it lets me record video. However, after closing, opening the camera, and trying to switch, it force closes again. Also, on the camcorder shortcut, it is only using my front-facing camera.

[Q] help with Marked cause phone to reboot?

I have made a clean install from the original SE rom, but which ever rom i try, when installing something downloaded from marked, it reboots. It's works in the original.
I have tried to clear dalwik, and I have formatted the SD card.
Anyone have an idea?
**EDIT** It's the same with and without SD card ..
Newer ROMs seem to have this problem - try clear the market data. If that doesnt work try an older ROM
If you talking about v6 slade wipe after you put rom on phone x2

I had the same problem with CM7 roms... It seems to mostly happen if I try to download >1 app on a data connection. And try to do things while the phone is trying to download. Veeeery annoying
For future reference, I think there are 2 things you should try.
Wipe data from xrecovery/cwm TWICE. First before the flashing and then after the second reboot.
Format the SD card.
At least that what I did with cyanogen froyo 6.0.1 and it worked

Front Facing Camera and 2.3.4

I've installed KennethPenn's ROM for 2.3.4 and loving it, however whenever I try to change my camera to front facing mode, it fails and causes the camera to FC.
Is anyone else seeing this issue or is it possible that I simply have a defective/corrupted com.camera module?
TIA for any advice/solutions.
im runnings kens rom, faux kernal, and front facing camera works fine...have your tried using QIK and see if it fc's?
I hate to say, but it works fine for me also.
No issues with mine either....did you freeze anything?
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
OK...thanks. I'm reflashing the ROM now. I hadn't seen others complain about it, so I figured it was likely just me.
Love 2.3.4!
Hmmm....after fresh flash, I still can't get the front facing camera to work. Fails and FC. I'll have to look into after I restore things.
I just verified that my front facing camera has no issues on KP's 2.3.4 beta 3.
Just tested. Working fine for me on beta 4.5

OK...so apparently I have a corrupted file for my camera app or a hardware issue. Any thoughts on how to repair/replace?
Error: The application Camera (process com.motorola.Camera) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
The regular camera seems to be working fine, otherwise. Just freezes when I go to front cam (same thing happens in QIK), then I get the error.
Used KennethPenn's Rom .... going back to 1.83 safe?
Maybe you missed something. Here are the instructions I followed on 3 occasions now to flash 2.3.4 beta 3:
reboot into CWM
do a complete wipe( this order, DALVIK, CACHE, factory)
install beta 3
do another complete wipe
install the root zip
reboot and quickly press up to start in RSD mode
flash the new radio reboot in CWM
wipe cache and dalvik
Maybe following this procedure will help you.
<edit> If you follow this, and get reboots when installing apps from the Market, what worked for me was boot into CWM, wipe Dalvik, cache, and factory reset, install root.zip again, then wipe Dalvik, cache, and factory reset again, then reboot. Should fix that issue.
I'll give it a try.
I think when I restored from Ti b/u, it just rewrote the fault. I'll uncheck the camera app for the next restore
What do you mean by install beta 3 do wipe then install root.zip ???? I only have beta 4.5.

you shouldn't restore ANY of your system apps from TiBu if going between OS versions.
Well...reinstalled with lots of cache wipes, and first thing I did was (after initial motoblur stuff) to try the camera....no dice. Looks as if it's bad.
I think going back to stock and calling Moto for a replacement might be in order

Why dont you just take the data/app com.motorola.Camera
and the system/app/BlurCamera.apk
and system/app/BlurCamera.odex
from one of these peoples working phones, then paste them into their according directories on your phone. Should fix it.
Edit: also, you will probably need system/framework/com.motorola.hardware.frontcamera

Agree with above completely! This is what caused me to have FCs with the contact manager. When I used TiBu to restore, I only restored my apps + data, not system apps. Worked like a charm.

[Q] Camera issue on CheckROM 3.1.1

Hi,
I've recently upgraded from CheckROM HD 2.0 to 3.1.1 on and every thing seems to be runing great with the exception of the camera.
Whenever I open the camera I get a message pop up that says 'Not enough memory'. This occurs even straight after rebooting or even clearing the memory on the phone.
I have tried reflashing the ROM, installing the camera hack from the kitchen, wiping the cache and anything else I can think of. Anyone else have any ideas?
No such problems myself, i suggest you ask in the CheckRom thread instead of starting a new one.

Anyway, don't think its nessecarily CheckROM now. Flashed back to CRR HD 2.0 and I'm still getting the same error.
Think I might have to do a full wipe which I was hoping to avoid. Time to see how good Sprite Backup and Ti Backup work I guess.

@ thread starter: reflash, maybe with factory reset? it's always good to wipe your device when you switch to another rom.
How embarrasing...
I was just starting to run some backups before doing a full wipe and got a message from Sprite saying it didn't have enough room to store a dropbox backup. Went and cleaned up my last few CWM backups and and some old ROMs and kernels. Just before I jumped into recovery mode I hit the camera and it works fine now. Seems to be that I had run out of space on my internal SD card.
Oh well, problem fixed. Flashing back to 3.1.1 now.
Thanks for the help anyways

This would probably be better placed in the HTC Inspire forum.
From my experience with other devices...
Yes, you are correct. You can also wipe data/cache/Dalvik after the install. It will delete files and crap, and leave CM7 intact.
Hope that helps.

From my understanding (and experience), wiping battery stats should happen on a full (100%) charge. This can be done at any time (not necessarily directly after install, but also later) without losing data or anything crucial. When I see that my phone's only charging to 98 or 99%, then I trickle charge it...get it to 100% THEN wipe battery stats.

Well, it's always better to know what you're talking about BEFORE giving others advice on the subject.
Lifehacker has an article about it here.
Here's another blog that says the same.
Maybe you should charge to 100% before wiping battery stats...

Yeah. What I was saying is that you can/should wipe the data/cache/Dalvik before using CM7.
I normally install a new ROM, THEN wipe that stuff. But you can wipe before the install, if you want. The point was that wiping those items won't affect the ROM you currently have installed.
Actually, I have also wiped before AND after an install...and not had any problems.
Just to clarify, when you install a new ROM your old one will go. So when you say that you want to remove 'virtuous unity' and install CM7...that's slightly redundant and almost incorrect. When you install CM7, VU will be gone, but you can't remove VU without installing CM7.
I was just pointing out that you can install CM7, and THEN wipe those items. But you can also wipe, then install. Wiping data/cache/Dalvik won't affect the ROM.
EDIT: I hope I wasn't offensive (didn't mean to be harsh) or confusing. I just found your wording a bit off, there.

Hmm. I really don't have an experience with your device. But I can offer a bit of general advice, and hope it helps.
Often, gApps are a separate install. Try searching in the thread where you found the ROM for gApps. Or check the CM homepage. They should be easy to find. Also, I'd do the same for the market. Google 'htc inspire market apk download' or something like that.
For the music problem, I dunno. Again, there may be a CM volume fix on the CM homepage somewhere. I have heard of a volume fix for CM.

No worries. Happy to help and glad you got it working.
Also, since you're new here (it doesn't really matter to me, but other people think alot of this) when someone helps you out, you can click the 'Thanks' button in the post. This saves space in forums and also, the person you thank ...well we all have a "Thanks Meter" and one gets added to it with every thanks-clicked.
So, like I said, it doesn't really mean much to me...but some dev's are very proud of their "thanks/posts" ratio, and will greatly appreciate the button click.
Best of luck!!

[Q] Camera shutter doesn't respond to voice

I have camera settings toggled for voice shooting and although it worked until 2 weeks ago it isn't working now. Any ideas?
I guess I could reflash the 4.1.2 Note 2 stock camera apk. Anyone know where I can download it?
I see a CWM flash version of the camera apk from 9/2012 in the AT&T forum but I'm using TWRP. And I really rather do an install not a flash.
Have you tried wiping data from the app, or going into voice settings, and making sure it is still on?

You realize the CWM flashable zips work with TWRP right? They are all just zips with install files in the telling the recovery where to push the files and what permissions to give them.
As for voice settings if I remember correctly they are under the settings menu or in the camera settings while in camera. Its been so long I really can't remember for sure.

The OP where that camera apk is located specifies using CWM. Also I thought I read where certain roms had to be flashed by CWM, but perhaps I misread.

A lot of OPs say CWM, they are either stuck behind in the times or know for certain it'll work with CWM cause that's what they use. AFAIK there is nothing that causes one zip to work with only one recovery, every CWM only zip I have tested in TWRP works without a hitch.
