Extended battery arrived 2600mah True Cell - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

So my extended battery and case arrived. I bought the only one on EBay advertised for the AT&T version. Today is my first day of use. When it arrived it was charged to 67%. One thing I will say is the phone feels 3 times as heavy as it used to but the case fits snugly. The battery reads for the I9100 Samsung galaxy s2. I will upload a pic as soon as I figure out how to do it from my phone.

nice, keep us posted...

Oh wow! How much was it? What does the outside of the back cover look like? Does it have the same texture/feel as the standard cover?

Definitely interested in how this turns out

Hello guys well so far so good. I am at 54% and the last time the battery was connected was exactly 8 he's ago. I have sent and recieved 74 data messages using group me. I have read a 102 page ebook today. And streamed 4 utube videos each about 10 min in length. I also streamed about 10 movie previews using flixster. I am almost certain that if I were using the oem battery the phone would be close to dead right about now. I am very very pleased with the battery life that I got today. I probably did more today with my phone then I have since I purchased it and to still have over 50 percent of battery life after 8 hours pleases me. What I did notice though is that the phone off of the charger it dropped down to 93 percent within an hour. And the reason why I noticed it is because I took it off of the charger to go to a meeting and when I came back I was like whoa. I have to wonder if it was truly charged to 100 percent because it has taken me some time to write this post and my screen has been on the entire time 10 min and I have only lost 1%. The case itself is plastic but it does not have the same texture as the original it is smooth but it is not slippery I am currently holding the phone with 2 fingers tilted at almost a 90 degree handle and its sticking. In any case it's easier to hold the phone now probably due to the added bulk. Once my Captivate charges I will take better pics of the case itself. I will also post a link to the item on ebay shortly. I believe I paid $24 or $26. Now of course my test is not scientific but again I consider myself am a heavy user and I am happy!!

I left the screen on for a little over 30 min to see how much battery drain would occur. I was also typing the previous comment I made earlier then switched over to FB and Google+ not bad for having screen on at about 50% of its brightness.

There was one other I found on Ebay advertised as compatible with the I777. However, it was removed shortly after I sent a question asking if the battery was NFC capable and not cause the phone to boot loop with the USB cable plugged in. I guess it wasn't compatible after all...
So your new battery charges as normal? No issues with the cable plugged in?

I will do some research later to see if this battery has the nfc chip not sure how to detect that. I have not experienced any problems using my phone while plugged into the charger. Actually I play tank hero last night for about 15 minutes and the phone did run warm not extremely hot but it was definitely noticeable.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App

One thing that I failed to mention last night because I just realized it this morning. I am running Juice Defender Plus but I have been using it from day one with this one because I used it with the Captivate. My excitement got the better of me but again I used this app and the exact same settings when the OEM was installed in the my phone. My settings are for it to check the network every 5 minutes and stay awake for 2 minutes after checking then cut data network again for 5 minutes. Not that comfortable with playing with the rest of the settings because there are a lot more things you can do but that is probably helping me achieve greater than normal battery life. Right now it says that JD has increased my battery life by 1.53 times since it has been running. Over the weekend I will have to test the battery without JD so that those that don't use any of these kind of apps will get a true idea of what battery performance you should expect.

What setting do you use for this? I've turned off "Background Data" and have seen a huge increase in battery life so far. If I could get JD+ to automate this process on some kind of schedule, it would be great!

Wow the extended battery doubles the thickness of the phone... i've been getting good battery life after putting in CM7 and re-calibrating the battery..
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App

Are regular cases compatible with the extended battery?
Nevermind.

Love the idea of a bigger battery but I can't justify the bulk when I went 15 hour and only lost 40%... Granted it was light use, like checking XDA texting and small internet usage, but then again, that's with no jd with 1.4 mhz oc and full sync and everything. Cyanogen mod gave me the battery life I want without the bulk
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App

Wow I wish I had the guts to install Cyanogen on my phone. I will try it on my captivate first. And you are right it nearly triples
the weight of the phone.
JD Plus actually gives u the ability to change how often your phone turns off the data. 5,15,30,60 minute increments. Today I have not used my phone much at all. Unplugged 5 hours and 14 minutes ago and it has 94% remaining.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App

I was all set to buy an extended battery but no need now. 36 hours off charger with light use and 76% battery life remaining. JD+ and bloatware frozen did the trick. This is with background data on and syncing..

Does Cm7 really improve battery life by that much? I've been using UnNamed
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium

NFC?
the next question would be, does the battery have the NFC "antenna"?
Because the OE battery has the antenna beneath the samsung sticker.

90% battery after 12.5hrs!
I keep all the radios on (4G, 3G, wifi, bluetooth, gps) and brightness set to auto.
...
I couldn't do a screen shot from the phone cuz no root yet
Manl, that's insane how efficient the new dual cores are!
Only if you dont use the phone. Hence your display percentage so low. Mine went about 12.5 hours on battery with the display on for 3h total
That is one thing that I don't understand about this phone. Sometimes, i'll pull it off the charger and not touch it for 12 hours and the battery will still be in the 90's like you see above. Other times, i'll pull it off the charger and not touch it and it will just slowly drain and be into the 60's or 70's after 12 hours (and it's still sleeping). Don't get it. Signal is always good here too.
I get about 3 hours of battery, and I don't even use it for calls really.

I know why my battery life sucks. I use it way too much... Lol... Underclocking to 685mhz works pretty well and the phone isn't all that laggy. It is definitely bearable.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
The only days I get battery life anywhere close to that are the days that I am super busy and just don't touch my phone, except to answer a call or text. Days where I have too much time, I'll constantly be on my phone playing games, researching things, youtubing stuff, listening to music, and on those days I'll get 9-12 hours, which is still good in my book. It'll easily go over a day with very light usage. I can leave it off the charger at 100% over night, and it'll be at 97% or so when I wake up, but as soon as I get on that XDA app for 20 minutes I'll be down to 75%, lol. It's ironic that the XDA app is such a major battery drain, and that is one of the apps that I use the most.

If you get '3 hours of battery and don't use it for calls' then you either have a defective phone or lying. I do vallet and play Video's all day work 5PM-4AM and I never have to charge my phone although close to dead by the time I leave. 3 hours? I don't think so.
Fact 1: 9 times out of 10, if you don't use your phone at all, the battery will barely drain.
Fact 2: If you were to actually pick up and use the phone, you wouldn't get nearly as long out of the battery.
That's something that baffles me about people and keeping track of battery usage. They leave their phone sitting there over night and all day without touching it, and then have kittens when the battery percentage barely goes down. Well.. newsflash, that will happen if you don't use the phone at all. I guarantee that if you were to use the phone for any length of time the battery would drain a lot faster than that. So that isn't an accurate indicator of the phone's battery life.

Android os battery drain?

Android os is slowly eating my battery.
Is this happening to anyone else?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
Yup. It's taking 50% drain of all other services on my phone
Android os is near or at ths top of the list of battery consumption on my phone most of the time. But I'm not to concerned about it because I'm getting excellent battery life on this phone so far. It exceeded 3.5 hours of display on time before I had to recharge the battery the first time.
I wouldn't get too excited about battery stats until you have had your phone for 4 or 5 days and get settled into normal use and have completed a half dozen our so recharge cycles because the battery stats will not be very accurate until then.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
Yeah im getting good battery life so far too but if it didnt have this issue we would be getting excellent battery life. In six hours of very little use its sucked down 21% and ran for over 30 minutes.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
Android OS is at 47% for me.
I'm wondering if it's some sort of reporting bug, because I'm still getting excellent battery life. With debloating to kill all the background services and some minor power management tweaks in the kernel, it's doing significantly better than Serendipity VII did on the Infuse, which I didn't think is possible.
Usually at my desk in weak signal, Cell Standby is #1 and Phone Idle is #2 on the Infuse. They're #2 and #3 respectively for me.
I wonder if it's a dual-core reporting bug, because I've NEVER seen it over 50%, and if you ignore it, the remaining items in battery usage are consistent with what I'd expect to see for a device in the conditions I'm putting it in and the battery life I'm getting. It may be that for every item that wakes up one CPU core, it gets counted, and Android OS gets counted equally on the other CPU core.
This is the same problem that the Sprint's version faced. There's a few long threads about it over in their section.
When I had the Sprint version, my AOS was random after each nightly charge. It would be really high one day, then really low the next. I've noticed that I get the best battery life when AOS is 2x%.
This is the first day after a full charge for my at&t version and AOS is around 2x%. 9h on battery and I'm at 70% with little - moderate use.
I've been unplugged for 13.5 hours and I'm still at 74%. Auto brightness ON, 1hr 20 min display time. My Android OS is 18%. Thats way better battery life than I was getting with my Captivate. I'm stock right now(no root, kernel changes for now )
I was at 88% after 9 hours on my desk - that's pretty good considering the weak-signal conditions at my desk.
There is a similar situation with my LG Thrill. I haven't really monitored the battery usage on my SGS2 yet, but I'm thinking that you may be correct in questioning the dual-core issue. My only hesitation in saying that is that I don't have the same issue on my Atrix and it, too, has a dual core.
Android OS is currently at 21% for me(n my (SGS2), but I'm using my Atrix as my primary phone at the moment. So, it isn't being used excessively.
Probably not a universal bug with dual-core, but some firmwares may not handle it properly.
I have this same 'bug' on my HTC inspire and it has remained through about 10 different rom flashes.
I have been all over this phone today playing games, downloading and installing apps and check this out

3030 MAh Gold Battery

Hey guys,
Some of you might've seen this on the N7000 threads,
This is to confirm that the same battery is sold to Canada on Ebay, and it works pretty well on the i717.
The battery is called the "3030mAH High Capacity Gold Battery"

I do not have the test results yet from Battery Monitor Widget, because I don't really know how to do a full MAh test. Maybe someone can enlighten me on this.
Through everyday use however, it does seem to give me an extra 10-15% on the battery (which is around one hour for me).
For those who are interested, order it from this Ebayer:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/270942481442?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Ps. The Charger is SLOW though, I usually use it on the other batteries overnight.
Have you had a chance to get numbers from battery widget?

I have this one and t he 3080 one. Both work ok- not much more lasting than stock. I get 35% by end of the day remaining with moderate use, push email, 10 widgets, and 14 alarms.
I have the 3000mah version from these guys and these are just 2500mah batteries repackaged. I thought that I was getting more battery life too at first, that's mostly because you are trying to justify the purchase subconsciously, but they aren't any bigger and are actually lighter than the stock battery
They do seem like good quality batteries, just not any longer lasting than stock unfortunately.
If it were possible to get a longer lasting battery in this phone that was the same size as the 2500mah one you can be assured Samsung would be selling it as an accessory for $50, people would gladly pay for it... Samsung wouldn't miss out on making extra money on accessories...

If it truly is a larger battery then it should take at least 30 minutes longer (using the 1 amp wall charger) to charge from dead to full.... But I found that my charge times didn't change any appreciable amount, so the capacity isn't any different...

It doesn't take any longer to charge from empty than the stock battery does, so Its not any larger. My charge times were within 10 minutes of each other when comparing to stock.
Ebay batteries that are the exact same dimensions as stock but claim to deliver more capacity than the stock battery are pretty much always lying about capacity. Its all marketing. If the battery was heavier than stock I might say it could deliver more capacity, but they are usually lighter.
There is an app on the market called battery drain...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...fender&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
Be careful using this, it will drain the battery VERY fast, potentially heating up the battery to beyond safe temparatures. DONT SELECT EVERY OPTION!!!
Here are the options you can select to have it do all at once.
-Turns on Permanent Vibration
-Enables Wifi Send Data
-Constantly Max Loads CPU
-Sets Screen Brightness to Maximum
-Enables GPS Location Services and Constantly asks Device to Refresh Position
-Turns on Camera Flash
-Turns on Bluetooth and Constantly Scans for New Devices
I would also grab battery monitor widget pro by 3C (the paid version is $4) or another battery app that has detailed logging.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ult#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNjYzcxLmJtdy5wcm8iXQ..
Consistency is the key, what I would do is power down the phone and let the battery completely charge (use the volume rockers to turn the screen occasionally to see the battery charge level, its fully charged when there is a 100% shown inside the green battery).
Set the battery logging app and the battery drain apps either on the lockscreen if you have something like widget locker or set them on the first homescreen that appears on an initial boot so you can access them quickly.
Then unplug the phone, note the current time (open the clock on your PC for seconds), power the phone up, wait a set amount of time (say 1 minute from when you initially turn the phone on) and launch the battery drain app, turn on maybe 4-5 of the options (dont use all of them, you dont want to damage the battery), say max screen brightness, camera flash, wifi, bluetooth, & GPS and wait til the battery dies and note the time when it dies (shouldnt take more than 1 hour).
You can test each battery this way (make sure you pick the same options in the battery drain app) and if you have an app doing battery logging, you can pull up the stats after the phone dies and you plug in the charger to reboot it.
Its also key that nothing changes (dont install any new apps or remove any apps) between testing. What most testers do is factory reset the phone, leave all the settings at stock and install only the apps they need for testing. This might be a bit extreme, the key tho is to have consistency.
Using both batteries and testing them in this fashion would give more information rather than anecdotal. However, I can understand that it is a time consuming process.

first drop task manager.. evolte has one built in sorta but android doesnt need it. i would drop both to be honest ive pounded mine in use and still havent gone into the yellow. first thin i would look at is cell signal.. update prl/profile etc. then second check your stats sending.. did you agree to send HTC/google data on usage? if so maybe thats it tho i doubt it
last check on apps youve installed maybe you got one thats going nuts.. take a screen shot of your power usage and post it too
Yeah, you don't need a task manager on android 2.2+
Also, does Evo LTE have the same charging circuitry the Evo 4g did, where if you pull it off the charger at 100%, it really could be anywhere from 90-100 and battery meter shows the true charge a couple minutes off charger ?

The problem is according to your username and icon you're on AT&T.
It takes a lot of juice for that Sprint phone to pick up an AT&T signal so it runs your battery down faster.
This is after the initial charge

I love how well this phone "sleeps." I left it unplugged during the night, and when I check it this morning it only had two little blips of Awake time.
I'm not getting more than 10 to 12 hours out of a charge with light use. I have got to figure this out.
Edit: battery use says 68% is the display. Maybe its the newness still.

Oh and what are you guys using to grab screenshots?

I also get about 10-12 hours of charge. Help anyone?
The screen is a pig, so worth it though. Try dimming it makrs a big difference.

Make sure LTE is off if you're not in an LTE area. settings, mobile network, network mode, cdma only.
I'm having the same problems. I am on it constantly, but no more than my 3d and it's not getting any better battery life at all. From 8-10 hours.

i dont think it makes a difference on this phone. on the OG yes.. if you turned on wimax even in a wimax area it sucked power. my understanding is the wimax used a separate chip and thus drew more power where as LTE is built in and uses no real extra power
Ive fully charged the phone twice so far and both times Ive gotten around 23hours of use. Thats with moderate usage of texts, facebook, internet, and the addicting yet battery killing game Crime City. I bet if I didnt play that game I could easily get a day and a half.
For reference, my OG evo battery would be dead in about 6 hours doing the same exact stuff. Granted, I was on the original 2 year old battery.
I've used the crap out of my phone the last two days and my phone has lasted all day and then some. Yesterday I was in an area that had no service and I was taking pictures all day and my battery was at 40 percent after 15 hours of heavy use.

My battery is amazing I still have 70% after 8 hrs. Try downloading bad ass battery monitor it's great. I also use battery level to keep my screen at 25% and not auto brightness or nothing. The other saving tips could be obvious, no vibration on anything, wifi if possible, not many widgets running, syncing. I always turn my 3G/mobile network off when I leave the house I just turn it on when I'm checking FB, Twitter stuff like that

[Q] Samsung galaxy s3 battery

Im new to this forum thing so sorry if i do/type something wrong. Anyway, i got my gs3 few months ago, and the battery life lasts a day, when i had iphone 3g it lasted like 3 days without charging, so i wanna know if this is normal with everyone or i have to fix it. Yes its rooted with a costume rom.
How often do you use it? Which CPU governor are you using? Make sure it can deep sleep, because if it doesn't it will drain very quickly.
Deep sleep? First I'm hearing about that. Could I set that myself in the paranoid kangdroid ROM

Deep sleep is a built-in feature that reduces power consumption when you're not using the phone. There are some applications that will keep your phone awake (known as a a wakelock) even when the phone's screen is off. To find out more, get CPU Spy and Wakelock Detector. The former will show you how long your CPU is in each frequency and deep sleep, if at all. The latter will scan for apps that are keeping your phone awake when it should be sleeping.
How much screen on time and other use does it get?
I get 3-4 hours of screen on time before I charge and that's a typical day for me. The newer and more powerful hardware is going to use more battery in general, too - compared to an older phone with much weaker hardware.

thank you, ive noticed my battery lasting longer. and also, do launchers like atom launcher reduce battery as well? i really like it but if i have to delete it

I experiencing the same with my new S3.
The same usage with my S2 lasted 2 days and now it's only one. I think it's maybe because the Omega rom I'm using.
May be Custom Rom isn't good. I think S3's battery must be better than I Phone

I don't think the launcher will make much difference. How long/much do you use the launcher?
im

so you think launcher or holo lock wont make a difference? if thats so it must be the costum rom installed on the phone i dont see anything else.. ill just take it to someone to change it hopefully it will work. not only that thw battery drains fast, it takes 7 hours ro charge..

If your phone lasts a full day, that's a miracle by today's standards. My S3 i9300 lasts about a full day also, with ~2 hours of screen time at most. Unless you have a Motorola Razr Maxx (3300 mAh battery) or a Note 2, you're probably not going to get over a day of battery life on any phone with anything over minimal usage. Also, don't let your battery die completely; don't go lower than around 20-25%. If you repeatedly do, your battery will overall hold less of a charge.
I suggest also that you turn on Power Saver if you're not gaming. Go into Settings -> Power Saver and disable the screen power savings (it limits the frame rate). This basically keeps the phone from going above 1 GHz (barely noticeable in terms of speed, but big battery savings).
Since you use a custom ROM, try messing with the min/max frequencies of your phone. My Samsung Galaxy SII has pretty good battery life; in this screenshot it's about 2 hours of screen time - 30 minutes of internet data, 30 minutes of music and the rest is miscellaneous gaming, videos, arranging apps etc. Oh yes, and a few phone calls, of course.

Click "Screen" to show for how long the screen was actually on. Overall that's good battery life though. Do you actually notice an improvement?

screen is on 2 hours and 27 mins. if i didnt use power saving the battery would probably be 15%.

That's amazing. Seriously. 2.5 hrs and 54% left. That's nuts!

Battery life heavily depends on the brightness. Mine is at about 60% fixed brightness, and in the screenshot it was at 1 hour 52 minutes of screen time.
lol i thought that battery life was bad.. thx

Don't expect too much from today's fancy smartphones. They are mostly form over function, and would rather have a slim body and unnecessarily fast internals rather than good battery life.
