Is it possible to change the way the home button acts? I dislike the way when you hit the home button it puts the current app into a background process. Could we change it so like an iPhone the home button fully closes an app when pressed?

Excuse me, but I believe the iPhone puts the process to background too.
Right now im using the cynogenmod 7 KANG's version, when you go to the USB settings there is a option to fully close an app by holding the back button. You can also customize the home/menu button using that rom.

Thanks man! I've found the option in the application development but how do i customise it further?
On my old Captivate I had a silence option when you pull down the notification bar. Is there any way to do that in default Touchwiz for GS2? Currently I have to go to the sound settings to set vibrate, which is very annoying. I wish more people would follow Apple when it comes to having a dedicated hardware silence switch!
There should be a Silent Mode option if you hold down the power button.
And also if you drop down the notification bar and click on the sound icon it will go to either Silent/Vibrate mode as per your setting in Sound setting. You can just open keypad and hold '#' too to make it Silent/Vibrate. Also you can search Market, there should be a simple widget which will allow a single touch toggle, I had one once, forgot the name.
Why not ask in a forum made specifically for your phone???

Im so sick of not being able to control the radio on my phones!!! I should NOT have to load cm7 just to gain this function.
If I want to force 2g then I should be able to. I can't stand that my phone constantly bounces from 2g to 3g all day at work.
I have resorted to using airplane mode all day. All I want to do is force 2g. Does anyone know of a way to do this without completely disabling the wireless signal?
Also, I am not very interested in apps that screw up the apns on the phone to force the internet to not work. I want a simple toggle just like the phones used to come with. Even when I disbale mobile network in settings I can still hear my phone trying to text over 3g one minute and then 2g the next. This constant switching is very hard on the battery. ESPECIALLY in limited service areas such as my work.
Please help.

There is a app that you can get in the market that's called samservmode. Its kinda tricky to get to but start up the app and on the main screen you'll get some options. Ill just tell you where to go
Main menu: choose option 1, debug screen
Page 2: choose option 8, phone control
Page 3: choose option 4, ue state control.
Page 4: Then you select GSM for 2g or wcdma for forcing 3g.
This is the only way I know how to do it on this phone, once you get the hang if it,, it will only take a few seconds to force either 2g or 3g. And to go back to automatic setting I would just reset my phone or the airplane mode on/off.

This is the same thing as accessing the debug menu through the dialer am I correct?
This means that with every reboot I would have to redo all of this.
It shouldt be this difficult! Thank you for the info though.

Try this...
Open up dialer and type *#*#4636#*#*
Select phone information.
Press menu and choose select radio bands.
Choose AUS.
For me this locks the phone to only 3g/"4G". I use this all day long due to the fact that my phone will constantly switch between the two while I'm at home. I can't guarantee that it will work for you but it's been a lifesaver for me. If it works the same for you, be aware that you will not have service in a strictly 2g area and would have to set it back to Auto to regain service. It also doesn't stick on a reboot.

*#197328640# in your dialer, Debug Screen->Phone Control->Network Control->Aquisition Order->GSM->UMTS
GSM = 2G/Edge
UMTS = 3G
This will put 2G at a higher priority than 3g, or you can switch to automatic to let whichever one has the best signal at that moment. Stock is 3g has a higher priority no matter what which is why you get disconnected.

This won't help me for 2 reasons but I thank you for the input.
1.) Im looking for an option that sticks after reboot.
2.) Im in an area at work that is bad for both 2g and 3g. So no matter what the priority it will always bounce between the 2 looking for better signal.
I need to force 2g.

You know what, Im Sorry you were right. Let me just go to the market and put HTCs sense on my galaxy s2.
Cause that's a launcher too right?

Ah, my settings stay (on Unnamed 1.1 not sure if that makes a difference) and yeah... AT&T locks the menu thats needed to force certain signals.
Well someone is cranky. Touchwiz *is* just a launcher. Specific to samsung roms, just as sense is to htc.
Samsung even markets touchwiz as the user interface (that's a launcher)
If you do like it that much, this article came out a few months back

SMH....no
SENSE is not just a launcher, Touchwiz is not just a launcher and BLUR is not just a launcher.....
there are specific drivers, and frameworks needed for each one, hell they even need specific KERNELS to run....
there is more than JUST the launcher. yes, it is a UI, but it is embedded in the dialer, the contacts, the accounts, even the framework....
ever wonder why you cant take the rosie.apk from a sense rom and drop it into another non-HTC device and have it work? probably not, because you dont know about the integration the UIs have....
its not JUST a launcher....its an entire UI....wake up
That I agree with you. But I'm almost positive that's not what he was talking about.
I'm not sure why it seems you have a chip on your shoulder about this.
Most people's view of a rom is the launcher. That's all I was addressing.
I know stock ui runs deep in a phone, but the main difference of what stock has that cyanogenmod or miui doesn't, is the launcher.

some people like the touchwiz features the UI brings. sliding brightness control on notif tray, slide to text/call in contacts, the hardware acceleration that TW4 brings along with the gyro/accelerometer, the camera app, the social integration, the email.....etc etc etc
i know i actually enjoy it now. touchwiz 3.x on galaxy s1 was horrid, but i like it now

Thank god you just said all that because I didn't feel like typing it.
But for the record there are probably 30 additional things that touchwiz offers me that cm7 and others can't. I really like it.
I recently reflashed CM7 and I remember being able to long press the back button to force close an app. I can't find this in settings, could someone tell me where it is. Also, I now have a clear button on the bottom of my notifications. How would I remove this

Ummm, the "Clear" button? As in translucent? I didn't know the X2 had a clear button.
I have power, volume up and down, menu, home, back, and search.

Ah! Got it! Yes, that is to clear all temporary notifications. Like email and text message notifications (there are many, many more that flash a notification to the status bar).

Yes, but it's annoying. How would you go about removing it.
One other question. The 3g tethering in CM7, is that through the carrier. Will Verizon change me for using this, our do I need to use a separate app to get around fees.
Sent from my MB870 using xda premium
No, it's not through Verizon. If it were, it would take you to there sign up page when you use it. I doesn't. Will they catch you if you use it? Who knows. I don't imagine you'll draw any more attention if you use it than you would with any other tether app. My guess is, if you don't go crazy with it you'll be just fine. Could be wrong though. Personally, I don't worry about it. But then, I only use it when it's absolutely necessary.

How could we go about removing the clear button? One way is to open your notifications...ie: text, email, etc... The other way to remove it completely would be to disconnect from mobile data/wifi/internet... An easier way could be to smash your phone, but I don't suggest that...lol
What is annoying, the notifications or the buttons???

The purpose of this button is to be pressed. A lot.
Don't sweat about the little things.....
BTW - your AMOLED screen is getting burnt-in because it's displaying the same images constantly (like battery, signal and data/wifi indicators).
