Whuddup Juggs! I just got the OTA pushed today, so that's what I'm reporting. Not rooted, and don't like to install leaks, which I assumed your post was, since it was in the Dev section... Not tryin to steal thunder, just reporting the reciept of official push... Lol

One thing that I found out is that if you install the Google+ ICS version, you are going to run into problems with your Calendar (events disappearing when created on your phone to your Google Calendar) and Contacts (the ones that you have associated with social networks apparently). I re-installed the Market GB version and everything else was back to normal.

Hi does anyone know if they had run into problems with the OTA and rooted only phones? I only have shabbypenguin's all in one click root applied
Can anyone kindly confirm what to expect if I did the latest OTA update in that situation? I think from the last official OTA update, I lost root and had to reapply shabby's again. Will that work again in case it happens with the 10/12 OTA?
Thanks for the info as it can't be asked on the mopho official support, and I want to keep my wifi tethering. Cheers.

Although I haven't rooted my baby, my experience is that EVERY OTA will cause a loss of root, and and you're always better off waiting for a ROM with the new junk from the OTA included. You can download it without installing, and though...

There was a few cases in the prerelease where some rooted users were experiencing problems but not many so I wouldn't worry about it. And yes you will lose root.

So I'm a little confused... Is the 'general' thread for everyone, or just those who think they're better/smarter... Cause you're being a little more smart assed than you need to be... Just sayin...

I have been able to download and begin the update, but it fails with the exclamation mark in the warning triangle, and reboots to the home screen. It then tells me that the Software Update has Failed!
I'm rooted on Stock [and most up to date, sans this update] 2.3.4 ROM at full battery

Okay... just did the OTA update over home wifi, prerooted earlier with shabby's one click and everything went fine.
AS you all mentioned, root will be lost...
after 10/12 update: lost root, reapplied shabby's one click root method and everything is back as is. Just posting to confirm... thank you.

Have you modified the system image in any way, such as deleting systems apps and what not? That can sometimes screwup OTA updates.

Mine is OCR, otherwise very stock. OTA stuck at 0% downloading for 10 hours.
From looking at forums here, Moto, other places, many OTA failures while downloading and installing whether rooted or not.

I ran an update last night (maybe around 9 or 10pm EDT), it just sat there and did nothing, at least until 1am. When I got up this morning, it was stuck at 1% downloading. I turned off Wi-Fi/Tasker, rebooted, and the thing downloaded and installed without a hitch. FYI, I had rooted using torpedo, lost it after update, and then re-ran the scripts after update and everything seems back to normal.
I also attempted to update my wife's Photon, which is completely stock (no root) -- hers also waited a long time before downloading, but it finished the download sometime overnight and updated fine.

Worked for me, but honestly just root your phone its waaaay better! Because you can use the OTA 2.1 for your root which I have done and you can overclock your eris to make it run faster. Waiting for 2.1 seems kinda pointless to be honest.

Were you running the leak? No?
Verizon's Twitter has said that leakers should have the OTA today... Also those on the leak don't have root... So while you failed to add anything of value to the conversation we appreciate your contribution.
I have leak v3 and that's why I am hoping Verizon was telling the truth about ota

To the OP sorry I did not know you were running leak, maybe state that next time, but hopefully verizon will push you the OTA.
I hope it comes out for you guys, even though its just v3 which you can flash over the leaks...but I wouldn't trust VZW's twitter page for accurate or reliable information.

Can you explain how/what the check in does?
From what it looks like, checkin looks at your system and if updates are available on either the market or the ROM, it will give you a notice accordingly.
Hope that helps.

Well the Verizon reps on Twitter, informed us NO we will not see the update LOL oh well... I tell you though, I just recently did a factory reset just to see if things would be cleared on a few bugs (just a thought) and well now I have been hitting more force closes than I have had the entirety of leak one or two... Its stabilized out, but thats a little strange. Anyhow back to my original reason for posting, NO OTA according to the Twitter guys.

Well I'm sorry to tell you this, but the OTA update won't downgrade your bootloader (I'm assuming you're a leaker). Even if you were able to apply the OTA update (which you can't) it still wouldn't allow you to root your phone. If you want root you'll just have to wait for it (which probably won't happen) or get an eris that hasn't been leaked.

Can someone please explain this all to me? :/

Sorry I am really not to quite good with this stuff, been extremely sick lately, surgery, so just not on top of it.
Anyway, I just got the 4.1.83 OTA availability.
I am currently on 1.57 and am using the fake 1.87 radio for faster speeds with GreyBlur 2.1.
Few Questions:
Should I do OTA to the newest version?
Will it give me anything over my current set-up?
Can I root, get side loading, and greyblur on 4.1.83?
Thanks all. Sorry I searched and cannot seem to figure it out.

I got the same data speeds with the official update.
-If you already have sideload enabled, it will still be there (at least it was for me)
-Rooting is super easy if you use GingerBreak; here.
-If you are running GreyBlur or GingerBlur then you will have to flash back to a fresh copy of 1.5.7 to update, otherwise you will get an error message (NOTE: It won't brick your phone, if you get a Waring Triangle during bootup after update, just pull the battery, put it back in and turn it on)
Ask if you need more help

Whether or not you update is entirely your call. I would say yes. On top of the HSUPA, this update improves WiFi speeds and stability. It is also supposed to improve your 3g/4g connection stability as well.
You can root using Gingerbreak.
here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046626
You can use GreyBlur, although GingerBlur is now optimized to 1.83 in GingerBlur 3.0.
If you do update, you should probably flash back to stock before hand using one of the SBFs.
You can flash back to 1.57 then update manually.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013786
Or you can flash directly to 1.83.

[Update] Bug Fix On The Way

http://www.androidcentral.com/droid-razr-about-get-bugfix-update-including-data-and-camera
Verizon PDF - http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/droid_razr.pdf
Some good news for those of you suffering with that little slice of sexy otherwise known as the Motorola Droid RAZR: An update's on the way (and we're told that a soak test has already begun) that's going to squash a few bugs, including that blasted SIM card error, and to improve the camera. Here's the list:
SIM error notification has been fixed
Improved camera features and quality
Improved stability of menu access, browser, phone dialer, video playback and music player to prevent force-close errors and lockups
Updated group message notification in e-mail
Improvement in 3G/4G data connectivity
Maintain network connection upon completion of a voiec call
Background color has been adjusted to improve readability in Lapdock connection UI menu items.
Good stuff. Look for the update to drop any time now.

Yes. Complete stock.
No to the unroot. Apply the Forever Root patch and cross your fingers.
Wonder if this update will break root.
In my experience, it's safe to assume that all OTA updates will break root. This doesn't mean the device can't be re-rooted, but if you're really worried about it, it's best to wait for your favorite dev to incorporate the update in their ROMs.

Manual Update Download
How come the manual update.zip download is not available from someone who has gotten it already...I would have guessed this would be the place to find it!
The OTA here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20477505&posted=1#post20477505 can keep root with voodoo rootkeeper. So theres a good chance you can keep root using this.
I'd suggest trying this anyway as the leaked OTA can't currently be rooted after its applied, I assume this will be the case with the official update.

Will it have to be activated on Sprint, since Sprint is the one pushing the update?
For some reason, when I got the View out of the box, the update didn't show automatically. What I did was go to the settings, go to "About Tablet" (I think) and check for HTC Software updates. That did the trick.

I would not directly install any ota if rooted. You can download the ota but sellect to install later. You can then look for the file you downloaded and take a look at what it contains, and can likely flash it through recovery. do a backup first
It can take some time to get the right update. Don't worry. If you're patient it will come. I got worried when people said they got an update, & I didn't. Got mine a week or so later. You'll know when it comes. Its about 200MB

It is OK to install this update (non-HC of course).
You still will be able to use revolutionary S-off method and then root.

Yes.
HC OTA will kill the root.
And then you'll have to go back to GB if you want root.

The updates normally have to be installed in succession, leading up to the big upgrade. Any update is a step in the right direction.
If you're S-OFF & rooted, why not use Globatron's update method? It's easy, and you won't have to wait for an OTA push.

I am not s-off and not rooted but will get around to it one day. Don't want to install the official HC update and not looking for it but just wanted to know if the security update would change anything when I am ready to root my device on GB.
That was the reason for me asking and my question has been answered above...

Uhm... OK. Since this is a thread regarding the HC update, I just assumed that's what you were looking for... You're still gonna get it, dammit!

Lol, good point and then it took me a minute to realize why I posted that here...I was trying to force the update to see if HC showed up but that security update showed up. I was going to flash that and try again to see if HC would show....Anyway, I didn't install the update and just finished rooting...
Speaking of rooting, CWM doesn't support the internal SD card or is there a newer version that does?

Root and OTA Update

It has been a while since I have rooted a phone and not run a custom rom. If I root will that affect my ability to receive the notice for the ICS update that is coming here before long?
If you only root, not deleting anything you should get the good news.
Cheers

Mainly Verizon bloat. If you freeze or delete anything that was installed when you pulled it out of the box, the OTA will fail.

I froze some of the bloat, but unfroze it and the OTA won't work. I have been trying several approaches, but am at the point of using RSD to flask back to the first rom and OTA up to current. Lots of work, little time. Is there a better solution?
Thanks
Perhaps a temp-unroot with ota rootkeeper can do the trick.
You are sure you did not freeze or deleted anything? Because that should not affect the message that there is an update.
It should only cost the update installation to fail for as far I experianced.
