One thing that I found out is that if you install the Google+ ICS version, you are going to run into problems with your Calendar (events disappearing when created on your phone to your Google Calendar) and Contacts (the ones that you have associated with social networks apparently). I re-installed the Market GB version and everything else was back to normal.
Hi does anyone know if they had run into problems with the OTA and rooted only phones? I only have shabbypenguin's all in one click root applied
Can anyone kindly confirm what to expect if I did the latest OTA update in that situation? I think from the last official OTA update, I lost root and had to reapply shabby's again. Will that work again in case it happens with the 10/12 OTA?
Thanks for the info as it can't be asked on the mopho official support, and I want to keep my wifi tethering. Cheers.

Although I haven't rooted my baby, my experience is that EVERY OTA will cause a loss of root, and and you're always better off waiting for a ROM with the new junk from the OTA included. You can download it without installing, and though...

There was a few cases in the prerelease where some rooted users were experiencing problems but not many so I wouldn't worry about it. And yes you will lose root.

Have you modified the system image in any way, such as deleting systems apps and what not? That can sometimes screwup OTA updates.

Mine is OCR, otherwise very stock. OTA stuck at 0% downloading for 10 hours.
From looking at forums here, Moto, other places, many OTA failures while downloading and installing whether rooted or not.
I ran an update last night (maybe around 9 or 10pm EDT), it just sat there and did nothing, at least until 1am. When I got up this morning, it was stuck at 1% downloading. I turned off Wi-Fi/Tasker, rebooted, and the thing downloaded and installed without a hitch. FYI, I had rooted using torpedo, lost it after update, and then re-ran the scripts after update and everything seems back to normal.
I also attempted to update my wife's Photon, which is completely stock (no root) -- hers also waited a long time before downloading, but it finished the download sometime overnight and updated fine.

Some good news for those of you suffering with that little slice of sexy otherwise known as the Motorola Droid RAZR: An update's on the way (and we're told that a soak test has already begun) that's going to squash a few bugs, including that blasted SIM card error, and to improve the camera. Here's the list:
SIM error notification has been fixed
Improved camera features and quality
Improved stability of menu access, browser, phone dialer, video playback and music player to prevent force-close errors and lockups
Updated group message notification in e-mail
Improvement in 3G/4G data connectivity
Maintain network connection upon completion of a voiec call
Background color has been adjusted to improve readability in Lapdock connection UI menu items.
Good stuff. Look for the update to drop any time now.

Yes. Complete stock.
No to the unroot. Apply the Forever Root patch and cross your fingers.
Wonder if this update will break root.
In my experience, it's safe to assume that all OTA updates will break root. This doesn't mean the device can't be re-rooted, but if you're really worried about it, it's best to wait for your favorite dev to incorporate the update in their ROMs.

The OTA here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20477505&posted=1#post20477505 can keep root with voodoo rootkeeper. So theres a good chance you can keep root using this.
I'd suggest trying this anyway as the leaked OTA can't currently be rooted after its applied, I assume this will be the case with the official update.

It's live as of 6:30am in good 'ole SC.
Use mattlgroff's Utility to "Keep root through OTA" although at least one person has reported not needing to use that...supposedly the tool worked just fine to root .181, but that gamble is up to you. ;-)
tCizler & maestro53 - I am new to the RAZR, just got mine yesterday, actually...but you haven't mentioned anything about recoveries...if you're running safestrap, etc. I imagine you will have to restore to stock before the update will work.

Hmm. Again, take this with a grain of salt, as I am new to the phone, and this is most likely an extreme option...
You could backup your data/apps using the program of your choice (I've found ROM Toolbox to be the best) and then use DRU 1.51 to "sbf" restore to .173.
That's what I did, as I got the phone from a friend who had ICS/safestrap and all sorts of stuff done to it and something in there made my 4G not work so I wanted to start fresh.
That being said, I am only just now about to attempt the update, so I'm putting my foot in a position such that it might be quickly inserted into my mouth, if necessary.
Just got mine. Warner Robins GA.
Also if you have after market recovery it won't install.
I was rooted .173 and took the update. I didn't unroot. Installed correctly and restored root w root keeper. Very nice.
Went through without a hitch here in monroe Michigan stock rooted and also kept root without backing up still looking for the changes but otherwise working great.

I might be insane from staying up all night, but I coulda swore I saw (either on here or on droidrzr) a "rebloating" script that essentially went through and made sure any such changes would be undone.
And cmon, it's not that bad. The restart will be good for ya, get rid of some of those apps you think you need but really don't. ;-)
Anyway...I went ahead and applied the update on stock/unrooted .173, then used DRU 1.51's GB Root option and it completed successfully, Superuser is on my phone and all seems dandy.
So if you're running stock/unrooted .173 it's CONFIRMED that you do NOT need to root and then use Voodoo's OTA Rootkeeper app to make sure you'll have root in .181. However, if you're already rooted, I'm not sure what happens.
If I understand correctly how Voodoo works, you may need to use Voodoo in order for the update to complete successfully. tCizler, have you tried that?
Now I just gotta figure out what I'm gonna do from here haha...With this update, will I be unable to install most ROMs or should this have no effect on that?
EDIT:
tCizler...I realize I'm firing shots in the dark here, but you may wish to check out this thread. My apologies if it doesn't apply.

I'm told that being a new os it would be worth a factory reset or reformat of internal drives prior to install of ics.... when the update is finally given to us.... This of course comes at the cost of having to re setup and install all apps etc. A major effort for a phone like mine! Do people think this is necessary or should I just run the update as is?

Sent from my XT910 using XDA
I always reset. Fresh outta the box, after updates, and sometimes just to start fresh. There are files from post production testing, left overs from previous versions, etc that a factory reset will clear, helping your phone’s functionality. A lot of people never reset anything, and I find them to be the people who complain that their phones don't work most often...

Update Available! But Fail.
Hey guys, i am lucky enough to have the update available but i'm running into issues. I am running 2.3.6 stock, system version 6.12.173.XT912.Verizon.en.US
This is on my non-safe partition using Safestrap 1.09
I can download the update fine and it restarts and begins install, but about 1/4 through it hits a snag and the triangle with an "!" inside pops up then the phone restarts and i get "Software Update Failed" message.
I am rooted and using Voodoo OTA root keeper and had temporarily uninstalled root to do the update.
Anyone have an idea of how to get around this issue?
Thank you for any ideas!
Can you pull the update file and share it?
