[Q] Port Sony Tab Rom to Samsung 10.1" ? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As title says :
possible to Port Sony Tab Rom to Samsung 10.1" ?
On Cnet comparison video looks like Sony wins over with alotm ore software features. Only downside on Sony is screen(like plasma tv glossy and dark).
Ty.

It's possible.... but just look at what's going on with Android on the TouchPad. Lots of work just to get it to boot up not to mention getting everything else to work.

It could probably work since the insides is almost identical other than screen and etc... It shouldn't be that hard. You should only have to use a different kernel because the system is just the android part.

Once you're done with the port, I would like a pony.

I'm actually going to start on this right now.
EDIT: Can't find a stock ROM for it judging there isnt even a custom ROM out there yet.

[Q] Samsung 10.1 vs viewsonic 10.1 dual os

Hi All,
I am too Confused,
I am not sure which is better : Samsung 10.1 or viewpad with two OS : android and win 7.
I am not sure how the touch works with viewsonic?
Can any one please let me know which is better overall?
Thanks,
Wael
Different animals:
The Viewpad is a Netbook without a keyboard, it has fans and vents and a normal BIOS boot and is pretty cool, if you want that...but it's BIG.
The Tab is a tablet, thin and light.
As far as which is better, I couldn't comment as they aren't apples to apples. Do you need a netbook without a keyboard or a tablet?
Correct!
Thanks so much for your answer.
The issue is, I am afraid of viewsonic in the touching screen speed, The processor speed, the screen resolution, the overall performance, the available apps, games.
The main thing that is making me thinking of viewsonic is the WIN 7 thing,Which will help me open my work application on it like the notebook, but I am afraid of the above concerns.
Can you judge on that?

Your in the wrong place brother. Why would you go into a galaxy tab forum and ask the people about viewpad? Nobody is going to have any hands on with it. Go demo one.

Is the 10.1N (Germany) Compatible to the 10.1?

Hi!
I do not find much yet about the 10.1N here (no wonder since it just came out). Does anybody know if it will be compatible to the 10.1, i.e. can the same roms be installed, can it be rooted the same way?
Thanks!
It SHOULD be. Afaik they only changed the looks, not the hardware. But I could be mistaken though!
Sent from the 10.1th galaxy...
From everything I could find and read about the 10.1n... It's the same device as the 10.1 on the inside. Samsung just made the bezel more pronounced and move the speakers to the front. They didn't change anything else internally.
So I don't see why it wouldn't be compatible... Outside of the moral things like it being wifi only or a LTE/4G Pertaining to things like custom roms and such.

roms for ics 3.6inch galaxy player

are there any roms for the samsung galaxy 3.6inch mp3 player?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007M6EYU2/ref=cm_cd_asin_lnk
This really doesn't belong in development.
Please post in general if you have nothing to contribute to the Development section. Thanks.
thread moved. not development
It was just announced today, and Amazon claims to have it in stock? Interesting... since the Galaxy Player 4.2 will be available for pre-order on May 4th and in stores May 13th.
Let's hope they're usable with some ICS love but, if not, can't fault Samsung for trying I suppose. Nobody else is bothering with the iPod touch-competition market, might as well be them.
since the device has a 480x240 screen resolution. that might make some custom roms and modified apps such as touchwiz 4.5 harder to port over to the device and I also think a lot of market compatibility issues will happen.
the screen resolution is what makes the device more different than the other galaxy players.
As said by br0adband, don't expect ROMs to come out for the 3.6 right away. It took like 3 months for a ROM to come out for the 4.0 so it'll be a little while.

Galaxy FAQ: Specs., reviews, root?

Anyone have a good compilation of Galaxy player info.? I'm wondering about a few things.
1: How well does it root?
2: Can it go to ICS?
3: Any particular cons to the model?
4: How good is the screen, 4.0 vs. 5.0
5: Can it be soft rooted a la B&N Nook.
Regards,
Mike

I managed to root it very easily using SuperOneClick. However I was running stock 2.2.2, but it appears there are a few issues rooting 2.3.6 roms
Yes it can go to ICS and there are many CM9 and AOKP based roms in the dev section
The only real cons I can see are no official ICS from samsung and as the galaxy players are not too popular, there is less dev work for them compared to other devices
I think the screen on the 4.0 is slightly better as it has the same resolution, but a smaller screen so more dpi. It is also a SuperClear LCD vs a TFT screen on the 5.0
I'm not too sure what soft rooting is (just googled it quickly), but full root is available
I suggest you visit this thread for more info.

Thanks for the info., I'm surprised the Galaxy isn't a more popular device.
Have any other potentials suggestions for a 5 inch Android device?
Regards,
Mike
the sgp 5.0 has more devs working on it than the 4.0.
but I don't get the point of choosing the 5.0 over the 4.0 or a real smartphone like for instance the galaxy ace, except the bigger screen.
-pixel density is lower
-yamaha DAC
The reason why I choose the SGP 4.0 over a new smartphone (200€ were my max budget), was the Wolfson DAC. Music quality is very good.
Of course you should use high quality mp3 or flac and good ear/head phones.
I have HTC with 4 inch screen and this player with 5.0 and like much more bigger screen..i use player more then htc...htc is just for making calls and sms and to make mobile hotspot if in that place there is no wifi.
800x480 on 5 inch is still better resolution then any 10.1 android tablet on the market

I'm actually wanting to use it as a nice little tablet for browsing ect. Yeah the DAC would be nice, but it's not that important for my application. I'm assuming the Yamaha DAC is decent. Are there any measurements or reviews showing the difference in quality between the Yammy and Wolfson?
Can an Android cellphone be used without SIM if unlocked?

For #5: Maybe soft root is the wrong term. For Nook, it's possible to install the ROM onto the SDCard as opposed to the internal memory, making it possible to dual boot and not overwrite the internal ROM. I think there's still some level of root CWM needs to be installed.
Here is info on MultiBoot

I don't think dual boot is available for the galaxy player range yet. It might be possible in the future though...

1: How well does it root?
I got mine rooted using an older version of super oneclick on the stock rom which is 2.3.5
2: Can it go to ICS?
I prefer not to. Way to many bugs if you are going to put on a different rom.
3: Any particular cons to the model?
I have the 5 inch and the only con I have with it is that you really can't use your external sd card to put apps on it.
4: How good is the screen, 4.0 vs. 5.0
I like the 5 inch screen. It is very clear and very bright.
5: Can it be soft rooted a la B&N Nook.
This question is unclear to me. Rooting is software based. All what you are doing is making yourself an administrator. Allmost like changing a standard account on a Windows pc to an administrator.
I would recommend installing GenericGinger ROM and Entropy512's (I believe that's how you spell his name) kernal. Quicker charge rate and overclocks the cpu to 1.2 GHz. You would destroy the retarted Apple devices to the grave they deserve.

[Q] Xperia S development

First of all I from what I saw so far that the forums for the Xperia devices are a bit messed imo. A flagship device out for 6+ months cannot have its own separate forums?
Also the S development section is pretty hard to navigate and find the right ROM to suit me. I will probably buy the device tomorrow and I was reading a lot in the dev section and I wasn't able to find a good Sony Stock based ROM with good explanation of functions and bugs, also AOKP and ParanoidAndroid are not having a quality port for this device. This matters to me a lot so it would be great if someone shares their experience with getting good custom ROM and kernels.
On a side note, how would you compare this to the HTC One S? The screen and usb otg are the main thing making me want the XS and the snapdragon s4 on the One S over the xperia's s3 is making me thing a bit.
The one S is faster cuz it has a slightly better processeor and a lower resolution, so the phone doesnt have to do much to operate it self
Xpeira S isnt that big with roms , there are alot of cool things around , aokp and cm10 are geowing , but not fast
If you want your phone for roms and development , buy a galaxy nexus
If no , dont choose one S , xperia S will get better
Hope i helped
