[Q] Alien not working - Motorola Droid X2

Hello xda.
Recently (i.e. today) I made the mistake of installing navenedrob's Alien port (for the Droid X2, from the Atrix). Don't get me wrong, navenedrob's work is great, but for some reason, I've been having tons of problems with this new build. Wifi works, but Clockwork wasn't pre-installed, and when I got it from the Market, it won't let me flash the recovery on wifi and spits up an error message whenever I try to install over data only. What should I do to reinstall CWM?
Thanks!

CWM doesnt work on the x2. Install the bootstrap.

How do I do that? Can you send me a download link?

Take a look at the sticky in the dev forum. it has everything you need to know.
---------- Post added at 11:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:17 PM ----------
what recovery did you use to flash the alien rom?

I just used whatever came with my old ROM (which was Eclipse 0.8). I think that was Bootstrap, but I'm not entirely sure.

thats the link to get to the bootstrap.

I stand corrected... Alien presume you already have the webtop partition and only include the hdmi hack to use it. Sorry.
Maybe you'd need to reflash your original or stock rom and test that webtop is working, then reflash Alien after that.
Check the fruitcakes thread
[Fruit Cakes] XDA Re-Release [feb/18/2012]
Fruitcakes has no active links
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163009
Assuming one gets posted soon, am I correct in that all I need to do is use ROM manager to load the zip file?
And that would add the webtop without altering anything else?
Thanks,
Sean

You can flash a full rom or parts using Rom Manager or cwm (clockworkmod recovery).
Flashing a full rom (including fruitcakes) will replace your current system.
Flashing a webtop which is cwm ready zip file will only add the webtop partition. In this case, only if your currently installed rom/system supports a webtop would recognise it.
I'd suggest that you start with a stock rom with a webtop, then upgrade/change to a custom like Alien rom.
Always remember to backup your system (Rom Manager), contacts and sms (MyBackup) before venturing into flashing your phone.
Cheers

[Q] STUCK ON MOTOROA SCREEN: Beta CyanogenMod 9 ICS Rom on the Motorola Photon 4G.

I've been trying to install the Joker Beta CyanogenMod 9 ICS Rom the last two days. I do just as the directions say in the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514963
I'm going from the Rock 3.0 ROM to the ICS 9 Beta 0.4.1 ROM. I do just as the video says and then after the Gapps pack is installed, I reboot and get stuck on the Motorola Screen. Only way to get back to the working phone is to recover.
Tried doing everything. Flashed the CWM 5.0.2.7 and tried, got the same result. Then updated the CWM to 5.0.2.8 and it didn't work. Attempted using the cwm - v3 on Jokers website and flashed that to attempt it, didn't work either. Seems to have been working for a few of us. I watched the video by Qbking77 :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0a3rySyJZA
And by the comments it seems as others have been having the same issue, but no one has attempted to help and fix it.
Try flashing the rom twice and see if that works.
I attempted that as well, didn't work either
try flashing 0.3.3... wipe cache and dalvik.... then flash 0.4.1... it works for me...
I have the same problem trying to solve it right now ill let you know if i figure it out
---------- Post added at 08:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:48 AM ----------
i figure it out flashed the rom 2 times and my phone booted just fine latest beta
i attempted to flash the 0.3.3 and then the 0.4.1. as well, it didn't wanna boot that either. did you flash the gapps after you did each one? though that shouldn't affect the ROM allowing the phone to boot or not

download anyone of these zip file recoveries and flash them via the non-functional CWM you got from rom manager. this will fix your problem. classic and jokersv3 recoveries are listed.

A few questions about flashing roms

I just bought a DNA and it currently has viper rom 1.2.0 on it. It is rooted, but is s-on, I really don't know if it has CWM or even how to tell? I am using straight talk on it and cant seem to get MMS to work, but it looks like Virtuous rom works with straight talk MMS. I am really not sure where I need to pick up on one of these guides just to flash a rom. Is that all I need to do to get it switched over? Sorry if these questions are easy/noob I really would rather just not brick this phone =)
Look in the general section and the original development sections for guides and pretty much any phone forum for guides. They will do a better job of explaining than me. You cant have a custom kernel on viper 1.2 and it for sure either has CWM or TWRP.
If you are s on, you have to download the zip of the Rom or kernel you want. Next, download flash gui on the market. Select the Rom or zip and it will flash the boot image. On a kernel, extract the modules and flash in recovery. For Roms, flash the zip after you flash the boot.img. try all that out, then look in the original development section for rooting and s-off. Hope this helps!

Download the "tweakker" app from the market as well. It solves many mms issues across roms.

Also, to fix the mms issue, download the "tweakker" app from the market. Follow instructions to get mms working again

Alright, I have a few additional questions then I guess, I have the Virtuous rom downloading, as well as the flash gui app. You say flash the zip after i flash the boot.img. I'm not sure exactly what you mean when you say that? Do I need to download an additional file or will the boot.img file show up in fastboot after I flash it with the gui app? Am I correct in that I should just be able to flash the virtuous rom without needing to flash a kernel also?

He was talking about the rom, not your phone. If the rom us based off 2.04, such as viper, you can't flash a custom kernel.

OK..from what I see. I'm betting you have a bad download. Try to download the kernel again and flash it. If you're tab is up and running you can grab the zip and flash it from recovery...just wipe cache and dalvik cache...flash kernel..but you need to make sure that kernel will boot with the ROM you have flashed...
If you're looking to just upgrade to the newest version of overcome. I would suggest you to get the zip file..wipe data, cache, dalvik cache and format system...then flash the ROM zip from recovery...
Also...are you're recoveries on this device separate from you're kernel or tied together...
---------- Post added at 10:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:12 AM ----------
Edit...I just read that if you trying to flash cm 10.1...you need to restock because of the partition changes...

Second or third paragraph in the guide you linked me to...
Also, based on experience, if you want to upgrade to other ROMs in the future you will have to keep your stock GB ROM file, your gt-p1000_mr.pit, the dbdata.tar and the entire Overcome kit (kernel and ROM). You will need all of them in the future because I've found that to install a new ROM you have to repeat the entire process of restocking to GB, then installing Overcome Kernel and ROM, then installing whatever ROM you want. It sucks, but it's the only way I've seen so far.
My take on this is that you need to go back to stock GB...then overcome...I'll read more to make sure..just thought I'd share this real quick as I just seen it..

But basically...you need to go back to GB...but first you need to flash the pit file from Odin to repartition the partitions...then Odin the GB ROM ...then overcome..its all in that guide...read...read...read.

Man...there is a great guide with pics if you click on the Google docs link...anyway.
You need to flash the overcome 4.0 kernel tar using Odin...let it do its thing..it changing system files. It will boot. After it up...boot to that recovery and flash the wipe all zip( put this on youre device before you flash the kernel )..reboot. You should now be able to flash any ROM you want from this setup..

[Q]Phone will not boot into Custom Recovery please help.

Hello all, I am new to these forums.
I am trying to boot into a custom recovery mode but my phone will only boot into standard recovery. I just went through and flashed an old kernel, and got my root with towelroot and then reflashed a newer kernel. I don't know if rooting with towel root is part of my problem or not. I have tried both the CWM Recovery app and the TWRP app, neither of which worked. When I tied to flash a custom recovery onto my phone with Odin, it failed. I am relatively new to all of this, I am learning as I go. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be much appreciated. Ultimately I would like to get lollipop on my phone. If anyone knows a work around for that, that would work also.
I forgot. I am on a galaxy s4.

if it is anything other than I545VRUAMDK, you can not use any custom recovery. to flash ROMs, you have to use Safestrap, and you can only use ROMs that are compatible with it (mostly TouchWiz ROMs, although there's a Google Play Edition 4.4.4 ROM that works with SS here)
