Hi Everyone,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S II (from Virgin Mobile, Canada) and for some reason... the native video calling feature does not work!
My friends got their SGS2 from Bell and it works...and my boyfriend just bought a used one from UK and it works as well.
When I called Samsung, they said that it should not be available in Canada...then how come the other SGS2's work.
Can anybody tell me if it is working on their SGS2?
And if you installed a 3rd party app (not skype or tango) but something to make the native one work. Please tell. I just doesn't make any sense why Samsung would release a phone feature that is not globally available!!!
It's frustrating!
Works on my S2 on Rogers. I think features like this are carrier dependent. Your other option would be a 3rd party app like Tango. I prefer and use that for video calling anyways.
Android 2.3.4
So apparently....I asked Samsung again and after I posted a link saying that 2.3.4 offers the "Facetime-like" video calling feature (free on wifi)
they said that it's because some phones are on 2.3.4 and that's why it works.
Is yours on 2.3.4?
I just checked for an upgrade yesterday with Kies, but still nothing! i'm still stuck on 2.3.3
Nope, I'm on 2.3.3.

Trust me you're not missing much with the stock video calling. Quality is horrible. Tango is the way to go.
What the hell....
Yeah, I know I use Tango too but if that's the case, I just want to remove that button (video call) from my phone or replace it with Tango then if it's so useless.
Damn. I miss Facetime.

Hey all,
I've been browsing around the XDA forums for quite a while now, and normally always have been able to find a solution if not at least some relevant information to any of my issues regarding my S2.
I'm currently on Vodafone AU and have the Skype pack on my account, which allows me to use Skype via the Vodafone network rather than over data.
The problem that I am facing is that after Skype was updated to the latest version, I can no longer connect. The app (Skype on Vodafone, not the Market one) tells me 'Couldn't connect to Skype'.
The previous version of it worked just fine, however I never anticipated this problem so I did not make a backup of the old app.
From testing I have been able to get it working on the stock Vodafone ROM, but not on a Custom ROM. I am currently running Cognition S2 1.15.
I assume they coded the app in a way to verify the type of ROM that you are using so you can only connect if you are using the Vodafone ROM.
Does anyone have any idea on how to get a workaround on this issue? or for that matter does anyone out there have the previous version of the app?
I do use Skype quite often, but don't really want to use the Market Skype since that goes over metered data; and I really do not want to go back to the stock Vodafone ROM.
I've uploaded the current version of the Skype App, if someone needs it or it proves to be helpful.

If there's any extra info I can provide that I might've omitted please let me know.
Thanks in advance for any useful information in the matter.

Hi,
I am trying use talkonaut for my gtalk2voip on my new Samsung Galaxy S II running on android 2.3.3
What i have noticed is that although i am able to place a call, the other party cannot hear my voice whereas I can hear them quite clearly. I think this related to
Android Os 2.3.3 only. As my sister who has Samsung wave running on android 2.2 and my wife who is having Xperia Mini running on Os 2.1 are able to make calls without any problem.
Any ideas ?
Please dont suggest to use some other voip service, as i am living in UAE and voip services are as such almost bannned here.... Besides gtalktovoip is the cheapest voip i have known so far, I have tried to use Nimbuzz, fring etc, to login into google talk so that i can use gtalk2voip.... but they dont seem to work at all..
vbuzzer, skype are all too costly...
try flashng a 2.3.4 rom to see if that fixes the problem.
I am using GalnetMIUI and using the 2.3.5 version. Even i face the same problem and i think it is because UAE is blocking some port.
To overcome the problem i use Gtalk Voice Chat feature using gtalk2voip.
Hi,
Did you get a solution to your problem? I recently got the S2 and seem to face the exact same problem. Im living in UAE too. My friend who is using the same software on his iPhone 3 seems to have no issues at all. Please do let me know.
Cheers!

I am trying to use gtalk2voip in my new Samsung S 3 using talkanout but it gives an error message of some XMPP service problem!!
Hello guys,
I'm really pissed off right now. I own a SGS2 (white version) and until yesterday I had Android version 2.3.3. (stock) on it.
Things worked perfectly at this point and I used the GTalk video chat function a lot.
But after I updated my phone to 2.3.5. (via Settings/Software update) the video talk function disappeared. WTH...? I really was using this and Samsung just disables it in a newer version?
Could somebody tell me what is going on here?
regards
lunatikk
Does anyone know if the mirrorlink technology in the S3 is a software only thing added to the phone or is there a hardware component (besides the MirrorLink head unit).
Im hoping Software only so that it can be added to other phones like the Galaxy Nexus. Anyone have any idea how MirrorLink works on the S3?
There is no special hardware requirement but just ripping the APK and putting it on another phone won't work either:
The operating system needs to be modified to enable VNC etc.
So, it won't be so easy to enable it in another phone I'm afraid.
Well that is a bummer! But thanks for letting me know. Do you think someone will be able to tweak MirrorLink on the S3 to allow full control of the device instead of specific apps like there is now?
This maybe possible.
Although it doesn't necessarily mean that they will be displayed.
The headunit (Mirrorlink client) has the final word on which applications will be allowed.

Okay thanks...all I want to be able to do is see and control my android phone from a bigger touchscreen. Different options out there- I was hoping MirrorLink would be the answer.
Hi Guys just asking for a bit of an update - i was looking at upgrading my head unit to the Alpine ICS x-8 which also supports mirror link - there is a demo out on youtube which shows it working with the Galaxy S2! Do you guys think this would work with the S3? HAs anyone had any experience of this combo?
You will need a lot of software stack working together in your phone firmware.
USB 2.0 is the only hardware requirement which is almost available to most recent smartphone.
I am waiting for HTC phone which includes this mirrorlink support.

Here is what I saw about the HTC mirrorlink-like (not sure if it is mirrorlink standard).
This is a demo in Luxgen Sedan 5 (a car designed & made by a Taiwan company).
