[Q] Is MirrorLink software only or hardware as well? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if the mirrorlink technology in the S3 is a software only thing added to the phone or is there a hardware component (besides the MirrorLink head unit).
Im hoping Software only so that it can be added to other phones like the Galaxy Nexus. Anyone have any idea how MirrorLink works on the S3?

There is no special hardware requirement but just ripping the APK and putting it on another phone won't work either:
The operating system needs to be modified to enable VNC etc.
So, it won't be so easy to enable it in another phone I'm afraid.

Well that is a bummer! But thanks for letting me know. Do you think someone will be able to tweak MirrorLink on the S3 to allow full control of the device instead of specific apps like there is now?

This maybe possible.
Although it doesn't necessarily mean that they will be displayed.
The headunit (Mirrorlink client) has the final word on which applications will be allowed.

Okay thanks...all I want to be able to do is see and control my android phone from a bigger touchscreen. Different options out there- I was hoping MirrorLink would be the answer.

Hi Guys just asking for a bit of an update - i was looking at upgrading my head unit to the Alpine ICS x-8 which also supports mirror link - there is a demo out on youtube which shows it working with the Galaxy S2! Do you guys think this would work with the S3? HAs anyone had any experience of this combo?

You will need a lot of software stack working together in your phone firmware.
USB 2.0 is the only hardware requirement which is almost available to most recent smartphone.
I am waiting for HTC phone which includes this mirrorlink support.

Here is what I saw about the HTC mirrorlink-like (not sure if it is mirrorlink standard).
This is a demo in Luxgen Sedan 5 (a car designed & made by a Taiwan company).

The version for the tab does not even let me download it, I have tried the remote but it looks wrong and I want the video streaming function as this is one of the main reasons for buying it.
The Smart View-app isn't ready for the tabs yet.
Samsung issued a statement, when they first launched SmartView for the SGSII, that 8.9 and 10.1 tablets will be able to download the app in the late summer.. So just be patience (like me! )
I tried a downloadable .apk version on my 10.1 in combination with the d8000...
The remote function works, but when trying to switch to watch tv it crashes.
Then i found a ported version, which should work on more android devices.
That compatibility i can't check, but still the same crash on the 10.1...
i thought Samsung said they would put it on the 10.1 and 9.8 by default...
One of the main reasons, for bying it...

Have you even bothered to read my post right before yours?
Samsung never said it would be on the tab from the get-go.. They promised to release it "after the summer".. And seeing how vague that statement is (doesn't even tell if they mean summer in Miami, Stockholm, Capetown or Sidney), it's pretty safe to say that they're still in keeping with their promise..

Nope, no news yet.
I wrote with a Samsung-dude last week, and all he could say is that they're still planning for at september/early october-release
See here for the download link and information about the app.

Hi,
I want to try the Smart View-Tab version on my Galaxy Note because the non-Tab version has low resolution.
Can any Tab owner share the new version of the Smart View-Tab app here ?
the apk please...
Also we have a discussion about this on the Note section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420918&page=2
I'd appreciate if anyone could share this app from their Tab 10...
Smart view Tab:
http://www.multiupload.com/D33D9HAF2Z
thank you.
but I get a package corrupt error.
can you check if it's not corrupted while uploading ?
package corrupt
Downloaded and installed here without any problems...
I've got a Samsung 5700 .. doesn't work though (even though I can activate network remote in my TV menu...) Anyone any ideas? What does my TV mean by Network Remote then?!
any news ?
can anyone else upload the Tab app from their Tab 10 ?
Did you try in the market? Both Samsung remote apps (tablet/non tablet version) show there?
"Samsung" as the query?
They don't list the "Tab" version to the Galaxy Note.
Don't know if this is what you are looking for, I use it to control my 7000 series Samsung LED on my Tab 10.1. For some reason I don't get the dual view as an option but I have read others are having the same issue. Works fine for me, full screen, as the other one is really small when it loads.

[Q] Does Samsung stop supporting bluetooth SIM Access Profile?

We can hear that Samsung will launch ICS for S2 on 1st of march.
But until today each leak from Samsung ICS does not have bluetooth SIM Access Profile (rSAP) .
I tested each leaked version from the first XXKP8 to the last XXLPB but none of them has SAP support built in.
Does Samsung stop supporting this bluetooth feature?
Officialy Samsung supports it (cf: Samsung S2 specs choose table view/Conectovity/Bluetooth profiles) and all the stock rom under GingerBread that I tested are SAP compliant. But if they stop the S2 under ICS will be unusable with the premium car phone system.
For those who don't know what is SAP/rSAP I wrote a small explanation:
It is different than the bluetooth hands free service wich is an audio gateway. With hands free profile all the communications, securities and radios are done via the server (S2).
The rSAP client (car phone) is a real GSM phone (most of them can host a real SIM) so all the communications are done via the rSAP client and the radio is turned off on the server (galaxy s2) obviously because the SIM card can only be connected to one phone. The main advantage is to use a 8W GSM radio with an external antenna. Also you can spend many hours in communication without draining your smartphone battery. The main disadvantage is because the smartphone radio is off you cannot use GSM/3G services on your phone (but you are driving!).
rSAP car phones are commons in European cars.
All Nokia's and Sony-Ericson's phones with bluetooth support rSAP. Galaxy S and Galaxy S2 with 2.x.x stock ROM are supporting rSAP...
The main problem is: Google does not support rSAP and we cannot add it!
Why because even if Android is full open source, drivers from samsung are not. Modem.bin is also not opensource.
In fact for adding rSAP to AOSP (android open source project) Google must add 3 trivial functions to the RIL (radio interface layer) specifications:
taking the ownership of the sim card (obviously control the connection to the phone services)
writing APDU raw messages.
reading raw APDU messages from the SIM card
If Google decide to do that the RIL library wich is a Samsung closed source calling the closed source modem functions will have this 3 functions and next we can develop an opensource rSAP support.
Samsung did not develop their own opensource rSAP support they use Nokia's Meego implementation wich is opensource.
With Ice Cream Sandwich I hope Samsung does not stop to support rSAP...
Also I hope Google will add AOSP rSAP support wich is needing 1 day of programming. If Google does that we can have rSAP on all Android phones...

It is not a "real" question since it is not an "howto do something" it is a question about the futur specs of SII under ICS
I´ve just upgraded my GSII to ICS 4.0.3 (XEO) and unfortunatelly I can confirm that rsap is not supported
Edit: with app rSAP from market you can fully use your mobile in car works great
Finally Samsung stops rSAP support
Now I'm quite sure they stop the rSAP support.
I tried all the Galaxy S2 ICS roms and none have rSAP support. I've also tested the Galaxy Note ICS leaked rom and there is also no rSAP support.
I cannot understand Samsung behavior. They premium phones that cannot be connected to premium phone car kit.
Even my basic Samsung B2100 has rSAP support.
Since I went back to GingerBread hudra78 could you send me libsec-ril.so for analysing ?
Thanks
I reported this to Samsung. That is their answer:
Thanks for reporting this, we'll take a look at it and if we manage to find something, we'll let you know about a workaround.

ANT+ support in S3

Dose anyone know is there a way to make S3 natively support ANT+? I know S3 has the hardware to support ANT+. It requires only software side to make S3 compatible with ANT+. Android 4.3 or above has ANT+ support. However after I installed Omega AOKP 11 with android 4.3 ROM and ANT+ plugin and radio service on Google play I still couldn't connect to my ANT+ heart rate monitor which I can connect using my Note 3. If anyone knows how to make S3 to support ANT+ sensor natively without using any dongle please shed some light, thanks.

Theoretically yes, the source code is on GitHub, but you'll probably need some binaries according to the readme.

If someone could create a custom ROM that was just the official build plus ANT+ support, I think there would be quite a lot of grateful takers, myself included... Very frustrated by Samsung's omission on this - I've come here as a n00b looking for whether such a ROM exists already, but no luck yet!
Any progresso on this?

Hi,
I've got a S3 LTE. Today a made the 4.3 Update OTA.
In many blogs and boards is told about the S3 ANT+ support in this Firmware.
So i've installed the ANT service and ANT plugins, but it don't work.
The demo app told me to install the USB driver for the extern dongle, cause the Hardware is not capable to use ANT.
Is there a driver update from ANT neccessary, or what could be the problem?
StompSC
Yes, the info about ANT+ being supported on the i9300 (non-LTE S3) was incorrect. I assume it's the same for the S3 LTE.
If the update had included ANT+, the ANT+ radio service would already be installed. You are able to download these fron Google Play to enable you to use a usb dongle.
I believe they haven't included an ANT+ driver, which is why you can't use the hardware that is included in the phone. It's the same situation that we had previously with BTLE (hardware there, but no driver), but they included the driver in the 4.3 update for that, so BTLE now works.
See this page for more info:
(Argh can't post url as I'm a new user. Google "dcrainmaker ANT+ s3" (without the quotes), it should be the first hit.)

I believe you are referring to this thread (porting full Android and/or Android Wear - http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s/development/dev-gear-s-android-port-t3177740) or this thread (making it work with non-Samsung devices - http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s/general/tutorial-install-gear-manager-connect-t2934307). When it comes to porting a product to a system that wasn't readily designed for it (especially most Samsung devices) - there isn't anything simple about it.

I do not speak English well so I try to explain better ... if I buy the gear s2 I can install the gearmanager and all software from playstore and everything works !!! so if I modify the gear s to look like the gear s2 (with a method similar to that of build.prop on the phone) I can follow the normal procedure and install gearmanager and all the software and everything works.
Now, as gear s is very similar to the gear s2, is possible to change gear s to look like to gear s2?

Xiaomi Laser projector

Hi, I have recently purchased a Xiaomi laser projector. I like it a lot. It has the same menu as Chinese version of xiaomi mi box. The problem is that the projectors menu is in Chinese as well. I have made a little review on the menu here https://youtu.be/yPDoM2FYekE but I really want android 7, or at least 6 but a European version. Does anyone here knows someone who participates in building these roms so I can ask them??
you can install an English setup app
I am interested in buying this projector too, I saw an YouTube video saying there was a software that you can install to alter the setup setting so that there are in English. If you have not already seen them, I may try to play around with the android version however it may just be easier to attach it to another box such as the android shield TV and use it that way instead of killing yourself with Chinese apps and trying to upgrade Android.
It's pretty easy to change to English and install any app you want. I installed YouTube but you can't sign into an account due to no Google services pre installed. It's super responsive and great picture quality. It would be awesome if someone has a chance to make a rom for it or work out a way to get the play store and a launcher to run on it
I have exactly the same problem.
Although you can install an app to change the language to English, 95% of the ROM is still in Chinese.
This device is not even listed in XDA-developers long list of devices. I am not sure how many developers will spend 1500+$ to buy, develop and test roms on this projector.
It would be great to have an international ROM based on Android TV similar to the Mi Android Box.
Meanwhile, I connect my chromecast to the projector and it works just fine. Of course, this means that I am not using any of the "Smart" functionalities of the device.
hey if someone found an answer I would really love to know too. Got some english which is fine, but the miui tv version 1.3.63 on android 6.0.1 is a pain to have. Bloat ware apps everywhere that just reappear on uninstall.
Also no playstore is an issue. The netflix I have is not really fitted to screen size and also remote does not reach certain parts. so its cut off.
I dare not meddle with it at the moment, becasue I think the software can maybe root and do something about it? But what about the hdmi and av inputs. I am just worried if i meddle with it, I lose these inputs.

You could try aptoide tv which is a play store alternative , you may need to side load it.
Unfortunately I do not have this device to try and create a ROM and I have never created one.
I get the impression its not that hard, I would just make a backup of the exiting Android should things go bad and then try Lineage OS which you can download for free. If I am not being clear I am talking about using a custom ROM with the latest Android Lineage OS.. I did this on an old Kindle tablet and had no issue. Well maybe I am not being completely truthful my first attempt at flashing I almost bricked the device, it took at lot of nerve and patience to make it work. Here a link below with more details on Flashing as I am not talking about an old man in a long rain coat.

Hello everyone!
The 12 september xiaomi will release a version of the mi laser projector for eu with oreo 8.0 and android tv, i have the projector in chinese version, are there any chance to bring the update on my device? At least it would be a simple flash of a oreo rom, or not?
Hi!
I also have Chinese version and would love to install the firmware for EU.
Normally the update should work via the USB with downloaded FW. So if Xiaomi publish the update we can give it a try. The question is whether the FW will check the region or any other thing before installation?
In the meantime, is there any manual how to make a backup or rooting via the Android Development on PC?
Hi,
I have the Chinese version with just a little bit English settings I would love to have the eu rom
what would be needed that someone can help us to get the EU-Rom on the China- Version?

There may be some hope for your request as on Oct 06, 2018 a user @servo386 was able to use abd and TWRP (loaded but not installed) to make a Nandroid copy of his v01 ROM (Chinese version). A few users have encouraged him to post on XDA. He is currently refining the process and trying to install Magisk for full root.
You need to be aware that the Android Oreo full English ROM, for this projector, has some draw backs. One of the biggest is that Xiaomi Oreo likely did a rush software job as they have dropped some very important projector specific settings/functionality. Primary to a lot of users is that 3D is no longer an option and that color correction controls are lacking between the two ROMS. On the other hand you do get working Google Playstore integration.
Also despite the recent success of @servo386 no TWRP nandroid backup of the Oreo version currently exists nor has the method used by @servo386 been tried by a Oreo Mi PJ owner. It's still encouraging news though.
All right, you can see the european version test here : http://www.passionhomecinema.fr/blo...iaomi-dlp-version-francaise-lavis-de-gregory/

Here is a more active forum with many owners of this projector both the V1 and V2 (international) models. You are likely to have better luck with that forum's thread. This one is more oriented to modding the projector's OS than Home Theater related experiences such as your describing. At the very least the owners can tell you if they have similar experiences or not.
