Hi there. I am getting a bit obsessive about my battery life. I am currently losing about 1% an hour at idle which I know is pretty good but I want to get better!
Anyway, using BetterBatteryStats I noticed that Event Log Service (Google Services) is causing a fair amount of wakelock. I have searched the threads but did not see a solution. Is anyone else having this issue?
Do you currently have your phone set to 'Back Up My Data' in Settings > Privacy? I found this to produce a good bit of partial wake locks for me. Not sure if that's what you're seeing in BBS.

Hmm, I'll check this out tonight.
I think that simply having Google sync services enabled will cause drain to go up a reasonable amount, as it keeps everything in sync. Unfortunately AT&T doesn't help by having a rather short TCP idle timeout - I don't have the link for the article on that with me at the moment.
Usually some Google sync service or another is at the top of my wakelocks when idle. It went WAY up in some situations on the Infuse in weak-signal situations.
@Kadin, I tried turning off Backup in the Privacy settings and it had no affect.
@entropy, I hear ya about the Google sync thing but I know there are a lot of people with android phones whose Event Log Service wake lock is very low in terms of total time. I guess I will try and turn off Google sync and see what happens but frankly, doing this will take away a big chunk of the usefulness for me. I will report back to see what happens to the wake locks.
I also use Google Sync and I also noticed that this event was running for 1h22m which is a long time in my opinion. I would like to only use google sync for mail and calendar updates, is there a way to set it to sync on a timely manner?
I also have Managewakelock: partial UID, that has been running fro 2h35m. Anyone know what this is?
You could e.g. use Tasker for turning AutoSync on/off depending on your choice.
For example sync once per hour for 5 minutes, or sync when connected to charger, or if Wifi coverage is available.....
I am too fighting the Event Log Service and get a bit frustrated. This Android wakelock voodoo is IMHO just bad designed. There is no elegant way in finding the origin of the wakelock in many cases. Alarms come close to Voodooism. My phone (Atrix, CM7.1 - sorry for the crosspost) wastes a lot of battery with Event Log Service and Alarm Manager. "dumpsys alarm" is not helpful at all and if i like to get rid of Event Log Service, then Tasker, Titanium Backup and Abbyy Bizcard reader will stop working, as they miraculously need that lib (e.g. via vending). And why Event Log Service keeps quite often the phone awake without any trace of logging in e.g. logcat. So I assume, the phone likes to dial home - ET like - and does not give up on this - ET iike, too.
Revoking the permission of a wakelock to avoid the Event Log Service wakelock leads to nice Force Closes
My current solution is to move all google apps in /system,/data into a freeze folder and reboot the phone. But as other programs stop working, it is no good solution at all. So the battle continues....
Curious, if someone with extraordinary analytical power could break the voodoo and give a good explanation for the Event Log Service battery hogging.

I wish I could help but can only commiserate. Last night Event Log Service only accounted for 5s of wakelocks (379 times). The other night, it was well over 1 hour! So I have no idea either what is causing this.
Im begining to wonder if its a frozen app that is causing an issue and the log is being written to in turn? Anyone have a good way to view the log that the events is written to? May point in a better direction. I unfroze most of my serives to see if that makes any difference in the mean time.

Same situation. Charged my phone 100% before i went to bed...unplugged it and i noticed it had over an hour in the wakelock. Never got out of deepsleep though so i was a little confused. after 10 hours i was still at 97%
same problem here. don't want to repost but i had over 30 minutes of event log service partial wakelock yesterday with android OS using 40% of my battery (much higher than 1.5 hours of display on...not sure if this is a glitch in calculations though)
posted my screenshots and story in the better battery stats thread here:

Holy smokes. 3% over 10 hours? Do you have any Widgets running? Is that in airplane mode? At best I get about 1% lost per hour with the phone not in use with airplane mode off.
You set any alarms or events in calendar by chance?
no alarms for me right now although it is something i use.
have lots of appointments in my calendar and subscribed calendars for work but very few that have alarms. and those events that do have alarms i need.

The only thing I got running is juice defender ultimate. I have it set to turn both radios off or w/e. But no airplane mode. No widgets either.

Been happening to me ever since I installed unnamed. The android OS thing anyway. I have been trying to track down what the problem is but have been unable to figure it out.
My Event Log Issues. Thought it was Task that did it, seems to stick with UnNamed too. Maybe 2.3.6? Or maybe Siyah. I do have an alarm, but the same one that wake me up for work since I got the phone.

Hi there. Long time listener, first time (Android) poster here (and previously infrequent Windows Mobile poster).
I'm in Australia and ordered a Galaxy S2 from the UK, which I love. But the last couple of days I've noticed MASSIVE unintended 3G data use. I only have a 1GB limit and I was going along merrily for the last week. Then yesterday all of a sudden in one day I'd used around 300MB. So I did some tweaking, installed 3G Watchdog and this morning I'd used another 400MB!! The reason I installed 3G Watchdog is because it can tell me my data usage by app, and it turns out (according to 3GW) that the offender is AP Mobile, which had received 339.1MB this morning! So I'm just wondering if I could get some help with this.
AP Mobile as I understand it is purely an RSS type widget. Doesn't seem to be an app anywhere for it, and when you go into the widget, there are only like 2 configurable settings. Can't even choose which feeds it gets, from what I could tell. I had looked at it initially and set the refresh to 3 hours, but later removed the widget. It must have kept updating though (but even so,for a mobile device seems like a massive amount of data still!). I didn't realise this, but have now set the refresh to 'none'. I hope this works! Does anyone know much about it?
OK, so my questions really are:
1. Does anyone know how I can make sure this never accesses data again? I use Juice Defender but it doesn't even appear in the list of configurable apps (though things like the BBC iPlayer do). Perhaps because it's only a widget? Is there another app that might help me do this?
2. Ages ago I used Android Assistant to kill the APM process on startup since I wasn't using it. But it must still auto start itself at times (perhaps this was connected to the update interval, which is now set to 'none'). Is there an app that could persistently disable this (and other) service(s) without rooting?
3. Which leads to my third question. I'm assuming the only way to uninstall this (since it came as part of the original ROM) is to root my GS2? I saw the thread on rooting a GS2 but I'm not sure about all the terms, like which specific firmware I have and which kernal to install after rooting. I'm more than happy to root it but had a bit of trouble working out what it all meant. If I was to root it, is it simple to uninstall original firmware apps or is the only way to install a custom ROM?
EDIT: Ok, I think I have a handle on rooting my device now, my apologies for not researching thoroughly enough. I think I know which firmware, kernel etc. I have so it's just a matter of doing it now. And then I can use Titanium backup to uninstall stock Samsung apps? Is this the best/only way to do this?
4. I'm generally happy with the device as is so I don't necessarily (yet) want to install custom ROMs. If I only root it, without installing a new ROM, will I still be able to install Kies updates as and when they appear? And does that unroot it?
Sorry for all the questions! And I'm so sorry too since I know most of this is completely n00b stuff to you all. This is my first Android phone so still learning the ropes. And if I should have posted elsewhere please reprimand me accordingly. I did search before posting, but being a new platform, I don't have a framework yet for knowing the right search terms exactly.
I am having the same problem. I am also in Australia.
Is there a non root solution?
I use Quick Settings Mobile Data APN off unless i want it on .
jje
After my initial ramblings, I ended up rooting my phone and removing the app entirely using Titanium backup. It was easy and painless and only took like 5 minutes. I assume it's worked for my data consumption, but haven't been able to test on 3G yet because I went over my limit for the month (thanks to APM) so have shut down mobile data until my next billing cycle. Doesn't seem to be anything like the data consumption over wifi though, so far. I still don't know though whether by rooting, if i load the next update through Kies (whenever it is released) I lose root or not, but so far the benefits far outweigh the inconvenience.
Without rooting, you can in the app set the update frequency to 'none' (one of the 2 settings it has!) but I didn't test whether this actually stops it or not, before I uninstalled it.
I too have the same problem with the AP Mobile App/Widget. At first when I got my SGS2 I used the widget as it looked pretty nice, but I soon stopped using it as it is almost entirely exclusively US news - pretty lazy of Samsung considering this is a UK version... you would think they could have got AP to configure it to EURO market or work with someone else such as the BBC instead. Anyway, the first time I noticed it was a CPU hog was when I noticed that in the space of my morning alarm, and me getting up (an hour, in which I took the phone off charging) the battery had gone down about 30%! In that hour I had not been using the phone at all! I checked the battery usage and it was clear what was responsible.... the AP Mobile app was using about 50% (can't remember exactly now) of the whole battery - more than the display and everything else! I force stopped it, and reported it, but still can't believe how much this can hog cpu/drain battery/data without even being used!!! Remember, this is without using the widget anymore, or ever checking the app! Today, I had my phone in my pocket (and inside a pouch) and all of a sudden I noticed it was really hot! To notice a unused phone, inside my jeans pocket, inside a pouch was really hot shows just how much the cpu must have been going crazy! When I took it out of my pocket the whole phone (including the screen) was very hot... something I've noticed a few times before when under intensive use (flash video streaming/1080p video taking/taking a call whilst charging) but for it to get like this whilst it shouldn't even be doing anything is crazy! Sure enough, when I checked the battery usage, AP was the guilty party! See attached screenshot from today as an example - notice the battery go off a cliff (over say half an hour, presumable whilst AP did it's thang) before I force stopped it! I should note this has happened over different firmware versions, so it's very much an app issue.

After reading this post I have set the frequency to 'none' and hope that fixes this issue, but a widget really shouldn't be acting like this when not in use. I would be interested to hear if anyone else spots this in their battery usage - if so please post a screenshot also!
Samsung/AP please fix!
BTW, You will see that Wifi Sharing was draining the battery also... again without me using it. Could AP be activating it?
I am having exactly the same issue.
I have the Samsung Galaxy S2 and live in the UK so I too found the AP Mobile app a waste of space so I removed it.
A week into my monthly data quota being refreshed O2 txted me telling me I had used 80% of my 500Mb data - which was bizarre since I use my phone mainly on wifi and not for downloading large files. Even more bizarrely ONE HOUR later I got another txt telling me ALL my data had been used - and I had done absolutely nothing. In fact I even closed down the widgets I thought were consuming data.
I didn't realise it was APM at the time - however a few days ago I woke up and noticed my battery level abnormally low. I checked the usage and it had AP Mobile As the culprit - even though I had removed the widget weeks earlier! It was right at the top of battery usage, even above Display and Android OS
There is something seriously wrong with the AP Mobile App on Galaxy S2.
Based on another poster's above advice, I just added the widget again, went to SETTINGS for it and set the update frequency to NONE (it had been on hourly before I last removed it), and then I removed the widget again. I will keep an eye on my phone.
Really annoyed that Samsung Galaxy S2 auto starts this app even after you kill it AND especially after you removed the widget too!
Looks like I am going to have to root my phone if this don't work!

Same problem here with AP mobile. AP mobile is a badly written App. It drains battery like crazy, so I ended up removing it. There are better news feeder on the market, so it's not a big deal to just delete it.
iamthecosmos was right.
Adding the AP Widget again, then setting the update frequency to none before removing it again works just fine
Thanks!

Same problem here, UK based. Wake up Samsung.
How did you add the widget again please? New to the phone.
TIA Dave
I had the same problem, I've had the phone for about 5 months now,but last night I'd notice it heating up and using ridiculous amount of battery, I just ignored this, switch off then switch on. This afternoon I noticed 3g Watchdog say I was nearing my data limit, Netquin confirmed this, check the usage, was APM! used up 1.1 gig of my monthly 1.5 gig quota! I'd never used the widget before now and as nice as it looks was pointless with me being UK based and the app more US stories.
I'm hoping putting the refresh to 'never' does help, but after reading this thread and going to check that, it was already on 'never'!
Still, I now have 26 days of non data usage thanks to that widget
Something is seriously wrong with you guys' phones. I have AP mobile refresh every hour and it only use about 350 MB per month.
Also Associated Press (AP) is american, so obviously you are going to get mostly american news.
I am on Stock 2.3.5 and its rooted. Installed the free version of titanium backup and i m unable to delete the application. The AP Mobile is not even on my widgets. The frequency is set to None. Still when i see 3G Watchdog, the maximum utilization is of AP Mobile. My ISP is screwing me with long big bills. Thanks to 3G watchdog, at least i know the culprit now.
Pls help how to delete this crap application.

Yes, when I do that, it gives me option. "Force remove app (by recovery exploit)". When i select this, it says blah blah and your phone will reboot twice.
But in the first reboot only, the phone goes to 3e recovery. The msg is, could not install the AP mobile (and gives the path to apk).
then I do reboot phone and nothing.. AP Mobile is still there..

Updating through Kies does remove root access, but you can just re-root it straight away.
Hi All,
I'm a noob here, so please correct me on things which I may state incorrectly. I'm no expert on the Android OS or Samsung devices (first time user of the OS and phone manufacturer), but I too am experiencing the same problems everyone else is having.
I have tried countless methods mentioned on multiple forums to reduce the high data usage, but many only suggest data monitoring.
AP Mobile is definitely a culprit, but there are many other processes in the background which are continuously syncing to somewhere without our knowledge. I had performed all that was suggested (disable all forms of background syncing, deleted AP Mobile, etc. and data usage was still very high)
Recently, I came across two apps which has helped me better control my data usage.
I will give a little review of what I found useful, and what I found I disliked about the two apps:
1) NetQin Security
This app provides multiple functions, acting as an Anti Virus, Optimization of the device by closed all programs and freeing up RAM, and mostly importantly, Network Manager.
The Network Manager allows for Daily and Monthly Traffic views and you will be able to view the processes connecting to the Internet.
Great thing is, you can also view data usage per app.
There is also a Firewall feature, which will allow you control data traffic for individual apps for both WiFi and 2G/3G connectivity.
If the phone is rooted, there is a setting which can be enabled, called "Disconnect at limit", which is self explanatory
One thing I don't like as much as the next app I will mention, is that it doesn't offer as many apps to manage in the Firewall list.
2) DroidWall
This app is only a firewall. Allows users to control the data that passes through their phone, and has more controllable apps.
Things I dislike, it is doesn't offer a network monitor, or an option to Disconnect on Limit
Both apps are available from the Android Market.
Please be aware that both these apps will need root access.
I know this doesn't completely resolve the high data usage issue, but will help reduce the high data usage.
Please let us know if someone does find a solution to this issue.
Exactly the same ...
Hi,
last month ( November) I had a data usage of 3.6 GB :O ... cost me £20 . And I'd been using Facebook a lot more than normal + emails, however this month, 15 days into the billing period I've used over 1GB of data , costing me £11. I downloaded my data manager and realised it was AP, however I'd already tried that widget in the past, and already set it's update frequency to 'None', but it did nothing!!
Sooooo, I guess the only solution is root and delete :/ Urgh... wanted to wait more than 2 months of having the phone before rooting... ah well!!
just root and uninstall it.
same issue here
Hi, sporadically I had the same issue too. Sometime 100Mb, other time 250Mb, I could not understand what was taking so much data, heating up the phone and draining the battery. Instead of going straight back to the shop, where generally you find [email protected]@Kwits that understand zero about this sort of problems, I decided to study the issue a little bit by myself. And installed data traffic programs to check what was going on. Initially I thought google+ was doing it but AP mobile came out to be the first cause.
I ask myself the following questions:
-what is the point in installing a program only for american news on phones that are sold in europe....mistery...
-there are obviously many cases related t this [email protected]@ked up program that samsung insists on installing, as the first posts related to this came out in april/may 2011, so nearly 8 months ago and with the new releases of firmware nothing has been done.
-get your functional tests right guys in samsung!!! how long do you test your [email protected]@t before handing it over to volume manufacturing??
So, at the end, I rooted the phone and uninstalled this crap. Big plause to samsung for this totally (useless) crap and for wasting money and time of it customers!!!!
I have the same problem intermittently. Fortunately I am on an unlimited data tariff, but yesterday my phone used ~350mb and drained the battery in a few hours. Battery and data use statistics showed that AP mobile used nearly 30% of the battery, despite the fact that I had not run it and do not have the widget installed!
I used the "My Samsung" UK site to contact tech support to ask about the issue. The response I got was:
"Thank you for contacting Samsung.
Can you please go menu>settings>accounts and sync and turn off automatic
sync
If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and
we will be more than happy to help."
Useful. It's not like I want to get my e-mails/calendar events/twitter feeds/facebook updates/BBC news updates...
In many cases, people who have battery drain issues have a tendency to end up being found to be using a known battery draining app or configuration. To help these people, I'm going to try to start a list here. I will, in the case of known rogue apps, include the reporting date so people can try updates to see if drain is fixed. (For example, Facebook is rarely a culprit any more, but it was the #1 most common battery eater in 2010.) The primary focus here will be things that shouldn't drain your battery but do.
Firmware bugs:
The UCKK6 OTA update contains a number of issues with wifi and bluetooth. Among these is that an oddball feature of our Wifi/Bluetooth chipset goes nuts and wakes up the phone once per second intermittently. Rebooting temporarily fixes it, turning off wifi temporarily fixes it, only permanent fix is to ditch UCKK6. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409513 for more details - Appears as a variant of the Android OS "bug" - this is the only one that is actually 100% a firmware bug. International XWKK5 is also affected.
LAN Environment (WiFi):
Broadcast LAN traffic can wake your wifi chip often. This also manifests as the Android OS "bug", but it's a small problem with the firmware base (XXKI3 and UCKK6 are known to be affected) and mostly a network problem. Examples I've seen so far include:
Windows Client Backup
UPnP (DLNA) SSDP
Dropbox Lan Sync Discovery Protocol
Buggy piece-of-**** routers that spam lots of ARP requests continuously - The 2Wire routers that are required for UVerse access apparently fit in this category.
You are more likely to have the above issue on some firmware bases than others. For example, XXKI3 disables all of the chip's packet filters, making it vulnerable to this sort of thing. UCKH7 and XWKL1 don't, leading to significantly improved life on "dirty" networks. UCKK6 almost surely also has the same problem.
Configuration issues:
Hotmail calendar sync
Misconfigured Microsoft Exchange servers - 1) is a special case of this. At least one person has reported that calendar sync to a non-Hotmail account was problematic for them, but email sync was OK
A bad Exchange configuration - the client apparently goes nuts if it can't contact the server
BLN - On Galaxy S II devices, there is no stable BLN implementation that does not hold a wakelock when a notification is active. This means that an active BLN notification will drain about 4-5%/hour. I say this in bold letters in my kernel thread, but somehow people still don't realize it...
Rogue apps:
Words with Friends (October 2011)
Skype (October 2011) - Particularly insidious, as it does not directly hold a wakelock. However, it causes lots of background network activity, and this activity keeps your phone awake. Since most of the time is spent wakelocked in the network stack, Skype drain shows as Android OS.
Any IM app that works similarly to Skype is likely to have the same issues.
AP Mobile Widget on stock AT&T ROMs - this one also blows through your data allotment quickly if you don't have unlimited data
AT&T Smart WiFi can sometimes hold excessive wakelocks - this is why AT&T bloat is bad for you.
The Obvious:
3D or animation/action-intensive games
The Rare:
Apps that occasionally go nuts, but not frequently
Facebook - I've had it wakelock me once, and also, Facebook chat may have triggered my first obvious "AOS bug" episode once - so far, it's been responsible for drain once this month
StartingAlertService - some sort of Calendar notification related bug
The False Blame:
GPS Status and Toolbox - may appear to be high-drain but is actually not draining - this is an Android battery reporting bug - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23106668&postcount=491 for more details. Thank you for the info and the great app rhornig.
If you're having battery drain issues, I suggest the following:
Install BetterBatteryStats. The XDA edition from the author's thread on these forums is free. (Market version is paid.)
Also, having CPUSpy to see deep sleep percentages is VERY useful
BBS now shows kernel wakelocks - make sure to check these. If you have an older version that doesn't show kernel wakelocks, use the instructions below.
Get ADB up and running (Google it, and if you're on Windows, Googling Droid Explorer may help)
Using ADB, do the following:
Code:
adb shell cat /proc/wakelocks > wakelocks.txt
adb shell dmesg > dmesg.txt
Zip em' up and post em' here for analysis.
Edit: Specifically, to get a good baseline measurement of idle drain - make sure to have CPUSpy installed for this procedure:
Charge phone to full
Reboot
Reset timers in CPUSpy, otherwise the percentages and bars will be wacky
Let the phone sit for a while - Overnight is best. Then provide data:
Deep sleep percentage
Time the phone was sitting
Percentage battery drained
I don't need screenshots of the above, just the numbers. Screenshots use up massive amounts of thread space
Grab /proc/wakelocks as mentioned above and post it, OR use BetterBatteryStats 1.4 or above to pull kernel wakelocks.
Note: If you're at or below 1%/hour idle drain, not much point of posting your wakelocks.
If you have high wlan_wake, wlan_rx_wake, or svnet-dormancy wakelock times, then you have an app eating data or one of the wifi wakeup bugs described above. Install Shark for Root - https://market.android.com/details?id=lv.n3o.shark
Start it, and change parameters from:
Code:
-vv -s 0
to
Code:
-vv -s 68
This tells it to only capture the first 68 bytes of each packet, which is all we need for this purpose. This provides two benefits: A smaller capture, and privacy for you. (It captures packet headers but not contents)
Then start a capture and let it sit for a bit.
Note that your drain will be higher during the capture than normal - we're collecting data here, not directly nuking the drain.
After a while where you are positive you are encountering drain, stop Shark and then pull the .pcap file - load it in Wireshark on your PC or post it here. If you post it here, MAKE SURE you have a truncated capture as instructed above!
Thank you sir. Will do in a few.

Words with friends is an insane battery drainer. I had a screen on time of 4 hours and 15 minutes with 35% battery use and Words with friends had a 45 min cpu usage and was 26% of the battery drain...There is no way that should be so close to the screen usage. CRAZY.

I spent a while testing that app before finding out it is a phone-wide issue. Emailed the dev today but we'll see how it goes. Not a small dev anymore.
Yea I hope they fix it...I love playing it but it kills my battery. If that app didnt run I may have like 5 hours of screen time on a single charge if not more. I looked at many of the reviews of it and many of them mention the battery killing it does.
Just discovered an interesting feature built in to the stock rom. Go to task manager > storage and you'll see it©.

Huh? What happens?
Apparently an app I come to love and use on all my devices is Battery Monitor Widget. According to to someone's post from the BBS thread and due to my own investigation. BMW will cause a lot of wake time up to 970 awakes over a 12 HR period. That is a lot time consuming battery and resources.
rebooted my phone reset cpu spy and going to leave it not charging and I will abd into the phone and get the demesg and other file and post here.. been losing 30% over night on about 8 hours which I know is way off... no skype I have wifi data sync and gps on as well as syncing a google account twitter tango and facebook.... which I understand might be alot but shouldn't this phone be able to handle all that? I also live in a basement with poor service but right next to the router... getting a microcell on Friday which I hope helps. My AOS is around 65% in battery status and suspend and events/0 are definitely running more than one minute every 10 hours, more like 20 minutes at least every charge, and my phone is lasting 11 hours give or take with minimal to no use

Suspend and events/0 at 1 minute every 10h aren't too bad. AOS at 65 is a bit high.
Unless one of the above apps you use is implemented badly, your phone should be able to handle the above. I have Google and Facebook and get great drain. I haven't heard reports of Twitter causing problems.
Tango is an unknown - it's in a similar class to Skype so could be driving excessive idle network traffic.
To the person who posted that a game drained their battery - well, that should be pretty obvious. I guess I'll add it to the first post later, but I'm primarily focusing on the "non-obvious" stuff - things that SHOULDN'T drain your battery but do.
Tango is all good had it installed on my phone forever my batt life is amazing. It doesnt require a sign in. Look out for anything that make you sign in besides google as far as im concerned

Configuration issues:
Hotmail calendar sync
Misconfigured Microsoft Exchange servers - 1) is a special case of this. At least one person has reported that calendar sync to a non-Hotmail account was problematic for them, but email sync was OK
The Obvious:
3D or animation/action-intensive games
If you're having battery drain issues, I suggest the following:
Install BetterBatteryStats. The XDA edition from the author's thread on these forums is free. (Market version is paid.)
If BBS doesn't show any significant wakelocks, and no apps show as hogs in Settings->About Phone->Battery, do the following:
Get ADB up and running (Google it, and if you're on Windows, Googling Droid Explorer may help)
Using ADB, do the following:
Code:
adb shell cat /proc/wakelocks > wakelocks.txt
adb shell dmesg > dmesg.txt
Zip em' up and post em' here for analysis.

Can you please take a look at this one to see if there is anything out of order?
Much appreciated!

what I meant to say about the suspend and events/0 is that i wish i was getting a minute every 10h, it is more like 20minutes.. I just finished my over night test, I put the phone down at 11:09 with 69% battery left, waking up just now with 30% at 8:16, did not touch the phone once.. should have been asleep the whole time.. also my suspend is at 31minutes (BBS) and my events/0 is at 30minute (BBS), i also reset my cpu spy. deep sleep 5:49 hours, 200mhz 1:29 hours and 800mhz 1:21 hours (14%)
and lastly, here is my dmesg and wakelocks... so yea this looks pretty horrible to me!
I actually went to the at&t store to exchange this phone yesterday cause I am convinced something is wrong with it, no one really seems to be getting the severe drainahe and stats that i am getting, so I assumed it has to be the phone, well its 2 weeks old and the guy wouldnt take it cause he needed proof there is a battery problem.. Also I went back to stock yesterday before i was going to exchange my phone and the issue seemed to be happening aswell no matter where I was and what apps were installed, hoping these files will figure something out! thanks for your help!
There's alot of careless and sloppy developers out there that has no concern on users battery. Android support Push notification since froyo and it's only implemented in a few apps like tango. Why? Go to the appstore the same exact IM and video chat apps uses push notification, but not on the android version. Instead you have to log in all day clogging your Ram and battery. As of now the only IM client I use it's Google Talk screw Skype oovoo ect or any other apps that has no push. BTW Facebook it's another mess, soon Ill be deleting and using the browser.

It seems to be the same issue as everybody else is having, getting excessive network traffic waking up the phone. Either you do a network capture of the packets and identify it by the highest common port which comes in (complicated), or you turn off each service off one by one. In the last case I'd start with the network location service (Kill it with Titanium) as that was known to be a *****.

so you think I should freeze each app one by one and let chill for an hour and see if there is drainage or not? is ot just processes or apps? cause I would never know to do something about network service unless u said something.. BTW I did, and i still lost 4% battery in an hour of idle.. so thats not it.. what about using this the other way you were talking about

ok, so I did try this to an extent, i would disable 4 apps at a time for the most part, only apps, none of the red items like wifi manager and stuff like that (even though i did try that at a different date)
I had no success.. I went back to stock, uninstalled all bloatware, at&t live TV, my account, bar scanner, all that bs, right now I have BBS, Cpu Spy and titanium, only apps that are not stock and are in the list of installed apps. I am still getting this issue!! could it be that I have poor service (though this never affected the iphone this badly) I lose 40% overnight though and it seems odd to me that would be because of low service..
GO.Keyboard and GO Contacts ( especially GO Contacts) was draining my battery at a phenominal pace. GO Contacts was using more battery than the display

FIRST AND FOREMOST!
I apologize for any spamming that may have lead you here, however I have a SERIOUS problem!!!
My phone will NOT enter deep sleep. 7 hrs of light use has brought me down to 35%
I've tried 4 XLA4 base ROMs. Currently on LiL ROM. and I can't seem to find out what the problem is...
I have 83 apps installed on my phone and my facebook and twitter sync every hour. I have a weather widget doing an update ever 2 hrs and I hardly ever have my GPS turned on. This same config on non XLA4 Roms used to get between 22-28hrs of life with similar or identical usage pending the ROM.
Is it me or is it just XLA4? I've noticed I seem to be one of the few suffer issues with these ROMs. Help would be greatly appreciated.

BBS DUMP
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BxNdtOAdgVzlI4z08BKqcYR2vX_keffnhAb_QkAlWPc/edit
Battery life on XWLA4 has been sort of shoddy for me too when I left the phone sitting doing nothing. I once left my phone off the charger over night and it only went into deep sleep 78% of the time. Android OS was at 35% of usage.
I'll need to do more conclusive testing.
I just don't understand what it is...
Me neither. Didn't get it at all with either UCKH7 or XWKL1.
Well in any event I hope someone can point out the error of my ways and get this thing up and going properly.
The problem is at the top of your BBS (Android System NotificationService); it's the sole reason for not entering deep sleep. I've never seen it, so I can't speak to what it is. Maybe someone around here can identify it; otherwise, post your dump in the BBS thread for a better chance of someone being able to identify it.
EDIT: Search the BBS thread for NotificationService in the meantime. Also, google search the term with "xda" behind it, and peruse those threads.
Sent from my Galaxy SII
Not sure what's going on with yours but I was able to manage 6 1/2 hours of screen on time with LiLRoM v1. I have pics in the battery life thread in the general section as proof. I was using Entroypy's daily driver kernel but I'm not sure if that would have a huge impact or not. Your BBS dump shows that the Notification Service(Android System) is the main culprit of the battery drain. I don't know what exactly that counts as though.
Just posted in the BBS thread. hope someone can help...
Try any different kernels?
At the bottom of Siyah thread, I have a link to older versions. Some people like .7 & .9 more than newer versions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19650906
It looks like that NotificationService is firing multiple repeated wakeup events... I think Siyah's suspend lock frequency is 500 MHz, which is why so much time is there.
As to why - no clue, I've never seen this happen on LA4 myself.
Well I've expirenced the same issues with multiple kernels.
So far I've tried...
Siyah
2.6.7
2.6.9
2.6.11
2.6.12
Entropy's DD
02/07/12
02/15/12_A
02/15/12_B
02/15/12_C
02/18/12_A
02/18/12_B
I want to say its the base but I don't get why I'd be the minority having the issues.
It seems like the problem is app based. I would suggest that you do nandroid and Titanium backups and delete all apps that could start the Notification Services. I see facebook katana in your BBS log.. that's my primary suspicion. Before you remove all notification related apps, try removing just Facebook and Facebook Messenger (if you have that installed too) and see if it helps.
That should hopefully remove this problem. If it does, then start adding those apps one by one and find the culprit. If it doesn't, then post here and we can do some differential diagnosis.
UPDATE: Another reason why I think that Facebook could be the rogue app is that in Market page for Facebook, the version number is not explicitly mentioned.. it says that the version number depends on the device. I am not an app dev but I presume that with the change in Android OS, Facebook probably needs to handle notifications differently. Now if you used TB to restore Facebook from an i777 backed up version, that could be causing the problem.
Summary
PLAN A:
1. right now you see excessive notification service wakelocks
2. uninstall facebook and messenger and see if that helps
3. IF that helps, install facebook fresh from market (that should fetch the correct Facebook version)
4. ...
PLAN B:
1. right now you see excessive notification service wakelocks
2. uninstall all notification related apps
3. reinstall them one by one
4. ...

I'll do that now.
If you have apps like Facebook, its almost a necessity to download Autorun Manager. Through that you can disable those startup receivers that you can't through the interface settings on FB.
Might also help with other apps. One more time, its called Autorun Manager.

As per my post in the BBS thread:
OK I had a look at the thread you insist we post in. Have you carried out the suggestions?
Anyway, the issue seems reasonably obvious to me, but the app itself responsible isn't obvious. You're going to need to do some work to resolve this.
One of your apps is posting a notification - either a notification icon, or notification lights - that is stopping your phone going to sleep. Given that you have so many apps doing background activities, it's up to you to figure out which one it is. I would start by disabling notifications in facebook, and I think also Titanium Backup (are you doing automated app backups using TiBU?). But from experience, the app is likely to be your SMS app - for some reason, they have a bad rap for draining battery once a message is received but not read. Go SMS and Handcent both do this depending on configuration and random ROM/kernel/karma combinations.
Anyway, it's not kernel, it's a userland wakelock.
For your next BBS dump, do what we keep telling other people to do - charge the phone before going to bed, remove from charger, and leave it idle for a good number of hours. Then take a BBS dump with the view "since unplugged". Do this because there is little value trawling through a log that shows you normal work-day activities.
Cheers

Well I just disabled sync/notifications for facebook and twitter and I turned off notifications for go sms too I'll leave the phone idle for an hr and see what happens.
EDIT: I've decided the head ache just isn't worth it. I'm gonna do a full wipe and then flash UnNamed V2.2.1 and not restore anything through TiBu
It definitely has to be an app because this is an idle test of a fresh install of Shishir with Siyah 2.6.12 and Init.doh .35 Exp. Less than 1%/hour drop with twitter every 15 minutes, and google sync/backup/locations enabled.

Hi there
I'm using Omega 27.1 + Phenomenal Extreme, and getting around 2.5% battery use per hour, and I wish to make it lower (I heard some people can get 1%/hour)..
I'm posting here some screenshots of my BBS, hoping someone could help me interpret them..
It's pretty odd that facebook and gmail kept my phone awake for so long..
I have facebook sync set to off, and refresh interval to "never"..
Anything else I could tweak? Maybe saving a longer log?
Thank you

Hello,
First, you have to put WIFI OFF when you don't use it. It drain you battery according to BBS screen : wlan_wake, wlan...
Secondary, you need view your Facebook events on the Internet browser because Facebook apps was know to drain battery (because it launch service and processus on your device).
I don't even use this program yet it shows 22% battery usage so far. Every night when I go to charge my phone it's always ay the 2nd spot for battery usage. I don't think tj I s should be occurring. I know I can freeze the program but at some point I may meed to use it to access my home files on my laptop. Any help is appreciated.

The best solution (if not the only) is to freeze the application, and to unfreeze it whenever you're ready to use it. I know there was a MIUI program that allowed users to stop applications from starting up automatically (both boot and idle operation), and would only be operational whenever the user opened up the program manually... But I don't know if there is anything similar to that now.

I'm thinking it might be the memory card. I was thinking of removing it, saving the files. formatting it then putting it back in the phone since it was in my old S3.
While I was sleeping Samsung Link used all my CPU. Here is the proof
I was able to reach Google and they claim that the Android System should be #1 always. I don't believe them in the least bit but hey it's their OS. As for Samsung Link Samsung claims it shouldn't be using CPU when your not using the application. It should be idle and they had no clue to how to fix it besides saying to do a factory reset. Such incompetent people at Samsung.
Then maybe my phone is broken. I think that it has to do with the bloatware running within the system folder (or running as an Android system app)? I don't know a lot about the development side of things, but I do know that once I froze a majority of the programs that Verizon and Samsung included on the phone, my battery life has never been better... Even though my playing of games doesn't help.

I think mine is somewhat fixed now. The Android OS isn't #1 today. I'll see how everything goes. I don't have anything disabled yet. I'm waiting for a good list of what to disable as for bloatware. I do know if Samsung Link keeps up using my CPU and affecting battery life I may freeze it.

Don't know how to get a screen shot on here but I have so little going on with my battery that I'm amazed: Samsung 4G from Verizon, purchased the day they became available. I also purchased my own 64 gb external SD card (Samsung) but only have some data on it at this point ..... waiting for.... hoping for.... the app to sd. The phone is not rooted and uses no special launcher
Screen 60%
Device Idle 6%
Android OS 3%
Android System 3%
Cell Standby 3%
WiFi 2%
I have been near my router most of the day and therefore, the phone has been connected to my router. But I was out for about 4 hours and sent some texts, made a few calls etc.
I went through the apps a few days ago and "disabled" everything I wasn't using - Amazon mp3, Amazon Kindle, Samsung keyboard and Swype ( use the smart keyboard from my droid charge days - maybe someday I'll look around but I'm very attached to it by now). Disabled Watch-On and never registered with Samsung or activated the Samsung Link. I use a third party app and have never used Kies. I also disabled a few Google apps such as the story book and one or two others.
I don't use the automatic brightness adjust. Instead, I have an app with which I can put a fine line on any edge of my screen and move it to brighter or less bright as needed.
Using a very charcoal wallpaper, turned off animations etc. My lock screen actually has a picture from Samsung (the flowers) which I thought wasn't bad. I don't lock it but do use swipe and light... to open it. I have the digital clock widget, the owner information widget, and phone, contacts and ICE info app (as a shortcut) on the lock screen.
I guess I'm sharing this to see if it will help anyone - and also to figure out what I did "right". I don't feel I'm suffering at all from a lack of space for apps, assuming someday we'll move them to the SD card. I sync gmail and use AquaMail for my other 4 email accounts. Aqua Mail is set to sync when I open it, which I usually do about 2 or 3 times/day.
This is all I can think of right now but if I can help anyone with a specific question about one of the apps, please ask.
