anyone else found the focusing and shutter sound of CM7's stock camera annoying? I have found a way to make it silent.
1.delete camera.apk and camera.odex in /system/app
2.install my modified camera.apk
3.copy camera.apk to /system/app and delete /data/app/com.android.camera.apk
4.delete /system/media/ui/camera_click.ogg
You may need a restart.
Now it's totally quiet!
I tested it on GinTonic S.E 2.3.9 and MiniCM7 pro V16.

Just out of curiosity as i dont use either of those roms, but isnt there a check box under settings > cyanogen > sound > mute camera
Its there in Flame.E is all so i figure unless the cmparts.apk is different, which it could be, then it should be there.
Cheers,

I have this option in settings, but it doesn't work. But for me, never mind
You can just mute phone and you wont have any sound in camera this is the easies way

I'm using GinTonic 2.3.9 and I found you can silence camera shutter sound by step 4 only:
4.delete /system/media/ui/camera_click.ogg
Voila - camera is silent ;-)

Hey slade, maybe you could help emaya solve this for flame.E as the cayno setting mute doesnt work on v0.2beta.
Just a suggestion,

And how about focus sound?
I´ve found and deleted all *.ogg files in /system/media/ui/ but the focus sound still on...
Also mute option in rom doesn´t work for me too...
But anyway, mute phone sould do

i uploaded the apk which i have modified. it has no focusing sound. Actually the shutter sound is not as annoying as focusing sound. I checked the souce code, they use tone generator to play the focusing sound hence it is not controlled by the system volume.

it does not work for me on both of the roms i have used. Focusing sound is really annoying because it could not be lowered and always played at 100% volume. so i delete the code of focusing sound, it does not use media files so i have to modified the apk.
I'm on nrgz28 energy ROM with the amaze camera mod and I deleted the camera click sound and it still clicks when you take a picture. Any ideas??

Ok well thats cool, yeah i dont use the camera enough to find the focusing sounds annoying but the click noise really pissed me off. Someone pointed out to me the other day aswell that you should put a disclaimer on the first post saying something along the lines of, "disabling the camera shutter is illegal in some areas and that you take no responsibility for people spending 50 years in prison for taking a photo in public without the camera shutter sound on."
Cheers,
Evil.

i'm just a CM nightly user, and I thank you for this.
I'm running this on GinTonic.SE 2.5.1 and it's great, being annoyed by the camera click was actually one of the main reasons to root my phone.
I'm still getting sounds playing when using the video camera though. Do you know how to fix that?

So I just installed CyanogenMod 7 Beta5 on my Defy and it's AWESOME!
But the only thing that disturb me is the Camera app in the ROM,
It does not have widescreen option for photos and The flash comes too early when taking pictures (photos becomes way too bright)..
So I'm asking that if someone could provide me the Stock BlurCamera.apk of froyo Defy please!!....
And if you could please explain how to install a stock app...
Many thanks
moment i try it
sorry, deos not work... i pulled the apk from pays ROM and tried to install it or put it to system/app both does not work.
If you want to trie it your own here the apk

EDIT: Doesn't work unfortunately :'(
Thanks
The BlurCamera uses libs from Blur core, I checked some files inside the .apk, it requires Motoblur.
I'm no android dev so I don't know what is possible here, but it would be awesome to have the BlurCamera (in my opinion the only good Blur app) on CM7, so if anyone of the devs has some time, BlurCamera fully supports Defy hardware, has an option to turn shutter sound off, and provides widescreen pictures as well as many effects and a decent UI.
the camera is the only bug of cm7,after AGPS being fixed today
fix flash focus maybe?
I am not using CM7 ( going to install it in the next few days). As i was reading i understood on a thread that in Camera Settings there is and option to pre-focus that fixes your problem??? Don't really know if it's there, maybe i red it elsewhere.
Any news on this? If there are no legal problems regarding motorola, I think this would be worth to work on, I could try but I think one of our great developers like Quarx or dexter could do it faster and more professional
Here again a short summary of the features:
- nice UI designed for fullscreen recording (16:9 pictures, maybe soon 16:9 videos?)
- up to 5mp pictures
- 6x zoom
- some effects (grayscale, color inversion etc.)
- camera modes (night, macro, motion)
- many options (shutter sound, shutter animation, ...)
- autofocus and flash optimized for defy (very good pictures, especially with jpg compression patch)
- google camera somehow always is on full brightness... blurcamera can manage brightness levels of the screen that the display doesn't blind you while taking nightly images
- some things I forgot
Quarx already posted a zip with the blur camera for cm7 its only a test and I think video does not work at least no sound.
Sent from my Defy on EphuNord rom.

Thanks for the info!!
I just hope that the blur camera will be worked and integrated in CM7... Because the UI is sleek and simple..
When the BlurCamera works and most of the minor bugs are fixed CM7 by Quarx will be the perfect rom, but until now it's also the best I've ever seen
I hope that we'll find soon a way to install original MotoBlur apps separately on any unofficial ROM. It will be great to have the BlurCamera and the Blur Music Player on CM7.
I agree, although does slow phones down quite a bit, I've yet to find an app that integrates contacts as well. Hopefully there will be a way to bring motoblur to CM7.
This is the HTCCamera.apk and media_profile.xml from This Thread What I did is added the other features thanks to SteelH's guide here. The Guide says you have to edit "DisplayServicer.smali" which isn't right, it's actually "DisplayDevice.smali". Also needed to edit the .line in order to get it to work with the 15K Camera... AnyWhoo....
9-16-11:
Built from 2.3.4 HTCCamera.apk, which fixed green tint issues.
I *think* it will still have the 0% compression and higher quality as well. in the flashable zip (yes, flashable zip added too!) I added the modified media_profile.xml....I'm hoping that is all that is really needed to increase quality. testing is needed, leave feedback with any findings please!
What's it do?:
Based on "CameraMOD 3D" by ErosizeD which already offered:
Higher quality 15mbps Video recording for 480p and 720p.
0% JPG Compression for better picture detail.
Panorama Option
What I added:
Upped Front Camera to 2mp
Added ISO 1250 option.
HDR Added
Scene Selection. (Close up, Night, Snowy, etc. etc.)
Known bugs:
Toggling Shutter sound in menu doesn't do anything. Sound doesn't work either way.
Dunno why, they are there. Just won't work. *shrug*
So, that is what I did instead of sleep... if anyone notices any more bugs let me know and I'll pretend I know how to fix them. haha!
Install Instructions:
unzip folder to desktop (or on phone using AndroZip or something.)
Move HTCCamera.apk to /System/app/ using Root Explorer or similar. OR, ADB push HTCCamera.apk to /system/app (before doing this, backup your current Camera app...PLEASE!)
fix permissions. ( rw-r--r-- )
move Media_profile.xml to /system/etc (backup first) or ADB push.
fix permissions ( rw-r--r-- )

I like this, it is nice to be able to increase the quality of the front Camera because I actually do a lot of video calling. I also noticed that it flips my front Camera back right side up. I can't wait until someone unlocks full 1080P ability because i know it in here somewhere and I remember using a EVO 3D Camera app on my OG EVO that had the setting for 1080P. Nice job and keep it up.
would any care to make a flashable zip for this? id love to have but i always mess up when it comes to pushing things via adb(idk why lol)
Camera shutter sound works, you must be missing the ogg file. Its in sys/media/audio/ui....camera_click.ogg. Thanks for the mod works great, hope that helps you out. Here's a link to the ogg file, just drop in that directory and reboot.

Whats up Steel? Yes, I just used this mod myself(with the files posted) and everything is working including shutter sound. Any ideas as to why its not working for others?
No clue really. The mod simply disables forcing the sound on, which puts the on/off toggle back in the menu.
I would love to find out how he set JPEG compression to 0, I've been looking for that for days now.

Doesn't work on GSM version. FC, such a shame.
Hey guys, Seeing two fixes from trettet and umangleekha, and getting reports that replacing cam libs with N2 Rom libs causes the best reported image quality, but no zoom in Camcorder, and Trettes pull from a different Kang has this feature working but worse image quality.
After various testings of older Camera.apks from Cyanogenmod ports, I finally found the version (MATT MACKS CM 7.1) that works on the Current CM 7.2RC1 and the Camcorder function works perfectly
I made flashable zip combining trettets cam_fix (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587870) and the libmmjpeg.so file from addfads N2, which is one of 3 files that are different between the two fixes, the two others being libcamera.so and libcamera_client.so (which I assume are responsible for the actual operation of the camera.)
The flashable Zip contains the APK with correct permissions and the Lib fixes.
I also removed the framework folder, as those files dont have anything to do with fixing the camera, and may cause unwanted bugs.
From personal tests I noticed the image quality is actually better from this combination and the shutter speed seems faster 2.
Please comment on any errors you experience, and the overall quality you perceive.
P.S The post contains 3 ZIPs,
1) JUST the Combined exposure fix Libs (with working camcorder zoom/ 4x Digital Picture Zoom), keeping the original CM 7.2 RC1 Camera.apk (with camcorder lag) [COMB_CamLibsFix-signed.zip]
2) The Combined Exposure fix Libs (with working camcorder zoom/ 4x Digital Picture Zoom) AND working Camera.apk [Complete_Camerafix_deniso177-signed.zip]
3) Extracted Libs from The latest N2 KANG from adfad (Better default Exposures/Camcorder zoom not working/ 2x Digital Picture Zoom) and the working Camera.apk [N2LIBS_Cameraapkfix_deniso177-signed.zip]

Thats strange, I think the Nightly four already has some sort of fix included, so its possible these fixes are corrupting the Rom. This should work On cm 7.2
No problem reinstall the rom.
see to it If default exposure can be increased, ATM, libcamera.so is responsible for it, but it will make mine and your fix same

Try the actual official 7.2 Rom with a custom kernel, no offence to the developer, but all the tweaks in Roms like Nightlyv4 are not that beneficial, the kernel and Rom libs/framework is where all the performance and stability comes from
Works fine with GTR V4.5X.

If you really wanna remove thet sound you need go with root exploler in to system/sounds and some where dosn't remember where but you woud find someting with camera click or camera shooter sound just delete it and reboot phone.
I know it but there is no sound of autofocus there
hello.
here is my problem
i was using wanam lite v 6.4 XMC2 ROM , its camera has a function that disable the shot sound.
today i changed to Android revolution HD as it is updated to XMC3, but its camera is not capable of disable shot sound.
i tried , that extract the camera from wanam ROM and replace in /system/app , but after reboot still the same ...
so ...i really don't get it ...
any idea please ?
System/media/audio/ui
no, may be i am not made myself clear.
there is a setting in WANAM's camera , something like "disable/enblae camera shot sound" or something like that.
i extract and replaced the APK file from WANAM's ROM to ARHD , but it doesn't have this setting...
Just use the Roms original camera, follow the path I showed, add .bak to the relevant sound file.....no more sound

As matter fact it still needs to edit the APK file to kill the sound completely.
But I just wanna have a control of sound...

It may well be that the sound is enabled/disabled via a script, simulating roughly what I suggested?

If I remembered it correct, the shot sound file is contained within the camera APK file, not in the /system/media/audio/ui.
