Has anyone connected their Evo 3D to composite? - HTC EVO 3D

I'd like to connect my Evo 3D via composite cable. Can it be done? If so could you point me to a cable?

Any reason you don't just use a MHL adapter? That's what is intended to be used on these phones, in case you were unaware. T-Mobile has them for just over $20 and they work awesome! Fully mirrors what ever is on your phones screen in portrait and landscape

does not work
yes, i've tried to plug my phone into my cars 6.5 inch touchscreen deck via a 4 pole patch cable. the phone thinks that you plugged in a stereo headset with a mic. my guess is the phone doesnt have a composite output or you need a specific trigger to switch the mic output to composite output like we used to do on the touch pro 2.

The mhl adapter does not work on my evo 3d ..how do you get it to work
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
The Evo 3D should automatically detect the TV once the MHL cable is plugged in on both ends. Just make sure that you are connected to a power source. An "hdmi" icon will appear on the top notification bar and it will begin mirroring. I read on other posts that it's not compatible with older TVs due to older hdmi versions, but haven't verified it myself.
Good luck.
Try rebooting your phone and also make sure you plug in the power too.

+1 adapter only works when you plug in the usb power cord into the side of the adapter.
I will try again when I get home I have an Emerson 32inch lcd tv got it last year will confirm if it works thanks for the heads up

[Q] Mhl not recognized after s-off?

Mhl output not being recognized after s-off. Anyone else with similar issue? Worked fine prior too. Worked with Temp root also. Any idea's?
Are you rooted stock or on a custom rom. If so which rom?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I'm not sure. I'm soff running mags rom and mine is working fine
Apple sucks ballz
I nand back to stock rom, and working. I'm back stepping now to figure out what I did to flub it up in the first place. I had flashed a variety of new roms out. But had wiped each time. I don't think it was the roms, probably some of my own tweaking.
Did you flash custom kernel? That probably did it if so.

Pretty sure you have to give the MHL adaptor a power source for it to work. As in plug the usb into the wall. So you have the hdmi cable to the tv and the usb cable to your AC adaptor.

I think I got audio once but no picture so other than plugging the cable into the phone and into the tv and turning it to the right input what else us there because I did all of that?

Ya you do need to connect the wall charger, but for some reason does anyone know why it doesn't actually charge my phone? While using it my power drains very slowly.
The mhl adapter and phone is being charged at the same time. It's a weak charge to begin with when you aren't displaying anything. Just have to deal with it.

I knew this was going to happen, I am not talking about mhl's, I know how that works. I'm talking about the function where you can use the headphone port to use a RCA type cable to play or send images and or videos to your tv.
Does any one know how this function works?

The EVO 3D does not support that feature.

I guess you guys haven't been in the Dev forums to see that this feature is supposedly baked into some if themes Roms, check it out yourself..... Then please get back to me.

I'm pretty sure that even though the ROM you're on may support it that this phone isn't capable of it. I've never heard of anyone getting that to work. Let us know if you do figure it out though. I just don't think that the headphone jack can output video. It only does audio. I believe its a hardware limitation.

Olympus trinity 3D beatless has it and I asked how it works but have not gotten an answer.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
You know that some roms are ported from other phones. Some settings will make its way over. There might be a setting for this, but from what I have been told is that the hardware will never support it.

This. What i do also is turn my screen brightness all the way down and it helps greatly to last longer while doing hdmi stuff
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
EVO 3D does not do this. Some put it into ROMs and said it worked, but no one has actually done it. This is hardware limitation. Anyway, use MHL it'll do HD and Dolby.
hi the first think sorry for my english
i saw in ebay .. the micro usb converter to hdmi its work for samsug galaxy s2 ... htc evo 3d... htc sensation ... its a small converter from the micro usb to hdmi .... i payed one in ebay ... and im waiting for that ... if that work i will write again here

micro usb to hdmi
Evo 3d uses mhl. I didnt think hdmi would work...

All the micro usb to HDMI i saw after a quick search were indeed MHL adapters. If you get a MHL, one end is male micro usb plug and the other is male HDMI plug.

Usb OTG connector. What have you connected to your GS3?

Would not work with my Toshiba 1TB HD. Did connect multiple flashdrives.
What have you connected?

I've connected my PS3 controller and synced it over Bluetooth with the Sixaxis app. I've also connected a mouse and it worked pretty well. Nothing else so far.
Man this phone is great. Would love to hear what else you guys have connected.

got a few flash drives to work. a few different mice. a USB hub AND.... a SNES controller i wired up for USB with the retro-USB chip.
the controller was plug and play! no hacking/drivers needed!!!
i would assume most of the Retro-USB DIY/solder type chips would work then cuz i think they are the same controller chip but just flashed different for the different types of controllers.
Hmm,
connected my usb HD , a usb flash drive, and my logitech unifying receiver --> with keyboard and mouse ...all at the same time via a powered hub ;-) ... and it works!
Great ideas! Waiting on my USB hub now. Thanks everyone.

Tried connecting it to various head units (was thinking about buying one for music), didn't work with any of them. And since the S3 doesn't support Mass Storage mode it basically can't be used at all (unless you do Aux or Blutooth, which I don't want to do).

[Q] USB charging

Ok i am thinking about buying an amaze 4g but i do have a deal breaker question.
I noticed the amaze has a special usb charger, will i damage the port by using a regular microusb, or will it all be good?
Thanks in advance
P.S. Wasn't sure if this should go in general or Q&A
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
No. It'll fit just fine. Just have to make sure it sits in there securely. But the original plug and charger is only a few dollars on Amazon.

Does the OEM cable work faster or something? Or is it irrelevant
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
The speed of charging depends on the wall plug not the cable. I'm not too sure why HTC changed the plug. Someone else can chime in for that.
HTC changed the cable so that it doubles as an HDMI output with the proper adapter. The official cable does charge a bit faster than a standard microusb, but no other functionality should be lost if you don't buy one of those cables. There are only a handful of HTC devices that use it now, and If I'm correct all of them border on obsolete now.
