[Q] Editing a XML problem - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

My problem isnt to know what i should edit, it's more like when i open this file (attached here) i'm getting random text which most likely indicates that it's unreadable.
I tried using notepad at first, then dreamweaver and at last some XML editor from microsoft. All failed. I dont think it's something wrong with the file since it works fine.
Anyone able to get it right? Thanks in advance.

If I don't remember wrong, it's notepad++ you're to get?

[Q/Help] How do I mod sms handling?

I got a problem with the way sms's are handled by HTC Sense(Its the HTC Desire).
I receive a sms from work on a daily basis, and thy contain a "/" (Slash as in "WorkPlaceName A/S") in the "from/sender" field instead of a phone number.
The problem is that the phone receives it, but discards it again because of the slash.
All sense based ROM's I've tried have all had this problem, but the non-sense froyo(2.2) ROM's are fine.
Now I want to change the behavior my self, but I don't know where to look.
I was thinking the kernel or somewhere in the ROM?
But I'm not sure.
I'll appreciate any help.
Anyone can help on this?
Does anyone know how would know?
Have you tried using Handcent instead of the HTC app? Since HTC's apps are not open source, it might not be easy to modify them although you could try 'APK Manager'.
Also, I recommend reading this if you want to understand how apps interact with the OS in Android - http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/fundamentals.html

Yes i did try Handcent, but as far as I can see the problem runs deeper then that.
I tried almost all sms apps on the marked, and the sms's keeps getting deleted.
if there is any way to change it, you could most probably find it by decompiling the apks associated with the sms system.. Unfortunately I have no idea what file it would be, however you can convert the Android compiled XMLs with AXMLPrinter2.jar file, and edit the settings to get it to do what you want (though there is a better and more efficient way to do this.. I cant remember what the program is called to do it..)
You can get AXMLPrinter2.jar from here: Download
You have to have the java jre (java runtime environment), and here is the syntax:
1. rename the apk to a .zip file
2. extract the files to a folder
3. 1 by 1 go to the files you want and type (for example)
java -jar AXMLPrinter2.jar Rosie.xml > Rosie.txt
Like I said there is a better way. There is a program out there that will do the hard work on multiple files for you, however I can't remember the program name.

Thanks I'll try that.
But do you know the name of the HTC SMS apk?
I can only find MMS and mail.
Anyway I'll have a look at the MMS apk.

Help editing .db database on PC

I need help in editing my sms database on Windows PC..
I tried SQLite Database Browser but it does not work, all that happens is the name of the db shows on the top but the browser stays empty like nothing changed.
I also tried just to use notepad++ but it opens in what seems like encrypted.
What other options do I have to be able to edit it?

Hi guys,
I try to use your tool but when I open the mmssms.db with it, I can't read the file. It seems that the encoding is not right. Could you tell me what kind of encoding are you using ?
Thanks a lot

Need help been reading a lot but having trouble changing apk file name and icons

I am trying to change a file name and icon on particular app, I tried using apk editor didn't work. Next used apktook and it decompiles fine, I change the text in res/values/strings.xml to change name and change icons out manually just using zip. The program states It recompiles and signs but doesn't create a new apk leaves in file format, when I compress to zip and rename with astro file folder gives me error stating trouble parsing this file.
Any one have a better tutorial I can follow etc. I really want to have this renamed and new icons Id even be willing to pay someone a few bucks via paypal to do it for me. That has more understanding on this issue.

[Q] Software to read .xml files

I need software to read compressed .xml files inside systemUl.apk. I tried Notepad++ but the code appears distorted i don't know why. Thanks for the help.

[Q] editing .so file

Howdy.
I'm trying to modify a .so file (libflashplayer.so), but have run into a few problems:
I first tried editing the file after it was installed from an .apk. This appears to work at first, but the edited file is quickly replaced with the original.
I then tried editing the file in the .apk package. This causes the package to fail to install (I'm guessing because the md5 in the certificates no longer matches)
Aldo tried moving a folder with the .so files from the .apk (com.adobe.flashplayer-1 which is what is created when the .apk installs correctly) directly into /data/app-lib/.The directory was created successfully but appears to be immediately deleted.
Is there a way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? If so how?
Other possibly relevant info:
My device is rooted
I did not write the code for anything in the .apk, I got it from a link on xda (pretty dubious i know but I couldn't find another option)
I'm using cyanogenmod 10.2 (based on android 4.2 I believe).
I'm editing the file with a hex editor to change a a few characters ("AND" to "WIN")
