[Q] ROOT Help? (EVO 3D NEWBIE) - HTC EVO 3D

So I decided I want to root my EVO 3D. I have question on how to do it.
1. How can I go completely stock (S-OFF + Factory Settings) if I root?
2. How can I root on 2.3.4 (build 2.08)?
3. Will rooting cause problems to the device (make it slower or make it Force Close :O)
[I'm rooting because:
-I want the Google Talk with Voice/Video
-I want the smooth Sense NavBar http://www.xda-developers.com/android/fix-developed-for-jaggy-sensation-navbar/
-I want the new market
-I want the 1080p Camera Mod]
I used to have a Samsung Intercept and I rooted it.

Don't wipe /data then. But that's not advised fyi. You could backup all your apps with titanium backup, wipe everything and then once you HTC unlock, and fastboot boot recovery.img and then flash a ROM, and bootup. You then should be able to restore all your apps with titanium backup.

I want to unlock with revolutionary (not HTC's official way). Should I get temp root so i can use titanium backup to backup apps and data first?

What HBOOT version do you have?
If its 1.49.0007 or 1.49.0008, then you can root it through revolutionary and i can easily help you through every step (including getting it rooted, S-OFF, keeping all your apps and data just like they were before you rooted, etc etc)
When you root and S-OFF through revolutionary, then you will not loose any apps or anything.
If you dont have one of the above HBOOT versions, then i'm afraid i can't help you as i've done it through revolutionary (my HBOOT was .0007).
IF you have HBOOT version .0007 or .0008, then follow this guide:
1. Enable USB Debugging on your Phone.
2. Connect Phone to Computers USB.
3. Download "revolutionary-0.4pre4" from http://revolutionary.io/
4. Get Beta Key from http://revolutionary.io/
5. Download & Install "HTCDriver3.0.0.007" from http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
6. Run "revolutionary.exe" from "revolutionary-0.4pre4"
7. Phone should reboot 4 times
8. Type Yes to install Clockwork Recovery Mod.
9. Download "su-2.3.6.3-efgh-fixed-unsigned" from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16651725&postcount=17
10. Copy "su-2.3.6.3-efgh-fixed-unsigned" zip file to the root of your SD Card
11. Boot into Recovery by Powering off the Phone, then powering thge phone on by holding the "Power Button and Volume Down Button"
12. Press the Volume Down button to select "Recovery" and press "Power Button" to Select. Then Choose "Install ZIP from SD", and install "su-2.3.6.3-efgh-fixed-unsigned".
13. Done (now check you have SuperUser App, maybe go get Titanium Backup)
You can also check this video that explains it very well:

(Just be sure to use the download links i posted in this thread, as the SU file they linked in the video has some problems, use the one i linked instead, that works 100%).
Hopefully i helped you

I'm on a CDMA EVO 3D (Sprint)
i went into HBOOT. bad news, I'm at 1.50.0000 No way to downgrade?
Does this mean I can't root or use revolutionary?
It said **locked** not S-OFF. are they the same thing?

There is no way to downgrade but you can still root your device and flash roms. It just requires you to flash the boot.img from fastboot because your device will still have S-ON.
Do the HTC Dev Unlock
http://htcdev.com/bootloader
flash TWRP or clockword
http://teamw.in/project/twrp/67
extract just the "boot.img" from the zip file below
http://dev-host.org/fqmar8wvfh0v/Shooter_2.08.651.2_deodexed_rooted-signed.zip
wipe dalvik cache from TWRP recovery and flash the Shooter_2.08.651.2_deodexed_rooted-signed.zip
reboot into bootloader from the advance menu in TWRP and choose fastboot by using the volume up or down and power button for select
execute "fastboot flash boot file_location/boot.img" and reboot
I'm also using freeza's modified kernel, you also must extract the boot.img and flash from fastboot after flashing from recovery

can i root using this method above with an hboot of 1.40.0000 on my 3vo?

Check this thread, instructions and a video. Also read post 2 of this thread for info on flashing kernels.
Unfortunately you can't use revolutionary on that hboot as of yet but you can gain root and flash roms and kernels just fine with htc's unlock method although with a couple more steps.

if your hboot is 1.30 or 1.40 use this http://revolutionary.io/ and never upgrade your hboot or update your phone OTA
DO NOT USE THE HTC DEV UNLOCK METHOD OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HAVE S-OFF

okay. if i run into any issues, i will post in here or send you a message. hope you dont mind. my OG evo is rooted thru clockwork too, so i'm a bit familiar. just not all the way in like everyone here at XDA. trying to get to that point. this 3vo isnt activated so i'm not worried about anything but bricking.

Is there a way without the HTC method? I heard with the HTC method contacts Sprint and Best Buy. Which means they'll have an excuse if something goes wrong that wasn't or even was because of the root?
Also with will I be able to revert back to S-OFF and factory default if I use the HTC dev method?

was i supposed to press enter after typing "Yes" ???
cause i can't access the sdcard to drop the root file (superuser) nor has it rebooted into clockwork

The HTC dev method is the only way right now if your hboot version is 1.50 and it doesn't give you s-off. It unlocks the bootloader and it does say "it may void your warranty". I don't think they can blame a hardware failure on rooting unless you brick your device or overclock it to high. Then again I guess they can do whatever they want to.

[GUIDE] Root Your EVO 3D + TWRP + Eng Hboot NO ADB No Fastboot STEP by STEP [UPDATE]

UPDATE 08-20-11.Ok Guys, I have been getting quite a few PMs and replies to the post regarding the New (OTA) software update. Rather than replying to every post or PM Here is the Answer...
If you have updated your phone using the Offical OTA with the latest Hboot 1.50 Then you CANNOT Root your phone using the Revolutionary method. The Revolutionary Tool only supports 1.30 and 1.40 Hboot for NOW.
In short if you Update your phone in Excitment or without thinking you are SOL for NOW...
Update 08-17-11 As Pointed out by a few users there is an update to the revolutionary Tool it's now 0.4Pre4, I have updated the revolutionary Zip found in the link provided to include this new update...
First and foremost many thanks to Unrevoked,AlphaRev,TeamWin and all the other devs that have made this possible. Endless RESPECT & LOVE to the Devs...
Now on to the fun and EASY stuff. There are a lot of guide on how to final permanently root your Evo 3D. This to me is just another method and hopefully others who are having issues with doing the process will find this easy as 123... It may look like a lot of reading but it's very simple and detailed.
Hope This will help those who have been frustrated with other methods/guide
I have tired both ADB and this method to obtain S-Off and then custom recovery... I have also included all the files needed in 1 link to complete this steps.
***Link***http://www.mediafire.com/file/5w6hovty8y79wey/EVO 3D All Files Update 08-17-11.zip
AFTER DOWNLOADING ALL FILES PLEASE EXTRACT JUST THE REVOLUTIONARY FOLDER. PLACE THE OTHER THREE ZIP FILES AS IS ON THE ROOT OF YOUR SD CARD (PG86IMG_eng-hboot, su-2.3.6.3-efgh-fixed-unsigned AND TWR). tHE htc DRIVERS IS OPTONAL, IF YOU HAVE THE DRIVERS INSTALL THEN YOU CAN DELETE IT.
Prerequisite
STEP 1: S-Off & ClockWork Mod Recovery (CMR)
1. There are 4 zip files in the folder from the link provided, the ONLY 1 you should extract is the revolutionary folder. The other three files should remain as zip files and should be on the root of your SD card...
2. Make sure you have ADB enable on your device (Menu--Settings--Applications--Development-- USB Debugging).
3. Connect your phone to your PC, select charge only. If you do not have the HTC drivers installed then you show find the exe in the revolutionary folder. Run the .exe to install the HTC android phone usb device. To verify if the device has been install right click (My computer) or (computer) ---Manage-- Device Manager--Double click Disk drives. Your phone should be listed a usb device.
Once this is done4. Open up the revolutionary folder, you should copy/extract all the files by now. Run revolutionary.exe. You will now need to go to http://revolutionary.io/ to get your Beta key. Just click on download (u already have the file) so you don't have to save it. Enter your Hboot version and serial number, generate your key. Enter your key exactly as shown...
5.If you have successfully enter your key the S-off Process will begin. You will be prompted to download Clockwork Mod Recovery (CMR). hit Y and enter to install CMR... Your Phone should reboot and once you are on your home screen you should have S-Off... End of Step 1...
Ok now that you have obtain S-off it's Time for Team Win custom recovery Project (TWRP) + Eng H-boot. I would recommend you check to see if you have clockwork mod recovery before you continue. Power down your phone. REMOVE the battery, put it back in. Hold your hand on the volume down button while pressing the power button. release the power button after a few secs while still holding the volume down button. Your phone should boot to Hboot/bootloader menu. You should see S-off on the top. Now press volume down to select recovery and press the power button to boot into recovery. Your phone should boot into clockwork mod recovery. Make a nandroid backup of your system if you like. Now install "Super user fixed" seeing that you are already in recovery.
Go back to the clockwork mod recovery main menu if you did a back up, if not select install zip... look for su-2.3.6.3-efgh-fixed-unsigned and install/flash. reboot your phone. You can open your App draw to see if you have super user install Just for fun...
You are almost home...
STEP 2. Flash Eng Hboot, Team WIN recovery
1. Connect your phone to your computer and select disk drive, go to your SD card and look for PG86IMG_eng-hboot RENAME it to PG86IMG. If you do not have it on your SD card then copy/move it to the root of your SD card.
2. Remove your phone from the computer and power of your phone. Remove the battery and put it back in. Reboot into recovery (hold vol down + power button for a few secs). Your phone should boot to the bootloader and it should pick up the PG86IMG which is your eng-hboot.
3. Press the Vol up button for yes to flash the PG86IMG. Reboot your phone when done. You have now install your eng-hboot without ADB...
4. Connect your phone to your computer and select disk drive, go to your SD card and REMOVE or REMAIN the PG86IMG. I would recommend you just remove it. Make sure you have the zip folder TWR on your SD card. If not now is a good time to do so. Once this is done remove the phone from the computer and power down your phone. Remove the battery and then back in.
5. Boot into recovery once more (should be a semi pro by now ) Remember vol down and power for a few secs.
6. Go to recovery (vol down) then press power to select. Your phone should boot into clockwork mod recovery. Select install zip... look for TWR and flash/install it. Once down reboot your phone You have successfully install a custom recovery(Team WIN Recovery) AGAIN no ADB or fastboot... You can download quickboot from the market and boot into reocvery which should take u to Team WIN Recovery Project...
7. WE ARE ALL DONE, if you have follow these steps correctly....

Update 08-17-11 Alternate Method Greetings All,
Did not want to start a new Thread so am Adding an Alternate method for those of you who have been asking if you can Flash TWR and the Eng H-boot Via the Bootloader. The step above was a step by step guide for beginners. Here is the Alternate method for standard & advance users.
If you do not want to Flash the two Zips (Eng hboot, TWR) via recovery then do this:
Steps
1. Obtain S-Off via revolutionary (it is up to you if you want to flash CWR , works both ways...) Reboot... Once Done...
2. Connect your phone to your computer and select disk drive, go to your SD card and look for PG86IMG_eng-hboot RENAME it to PG86IMG
3.Boot into recovery, it should automatically pick up the PG86IMG and ask if you would like to update. Select Yes and once done reboot your phone.
4.Connect your phone to your computer and select disk drive, go to your SD card and REMOVE or REMAIN the PG86IMG. I would recommend you just remove it.
5. Now you will need to rename the TWR to PG86IMG, disconnect your phone from the PC once done.
6. Boot into recovery, it should automatically pick up the PG86IMG and ask if you would like to update. Select Yes and once done reboot your phone.
7. Important: You would need to go to recovery 1 final time to flash the Super User (su-2.3.6.3-efgh-fixed-unsigned).
ALL DONE ,yet another simple way to Root Your HTC EVO3D
JahNile
Evo 3D
Finally now With S-Off + Eng Hboot+ TWRP
Would it be possible to use your Eng Hboot without ClockWork Mod? I accidently hit no instead of yes, I can't figure out why ADB is not working.
You may be able to flash the eng hboot seeing that you now have S off. However you may not be able to flash superuser (SU) and TWR. This requires a custom recovery I believe. You can approach this a few ways. You can try to push the TWR via fastboot /adb then SU. You can also go back to S-On then start from the beginning again.
Both methods can be found in the forum. Good luck.

Yes all files are from the forum no changes. Just place them into 1 folder rather than post links to them... Try to make it as simple as possible 4 every 1.

Pretty good guide just a few comments that may prevent confusion.... A couple times you say reboot to recovery via power and volume but your are actually booting to bootloader then letting it find a .img or selecting recovery from the menu. I think that's what you were trying to say but like I said trying to prevent confusion. Also I'm almost 100% positive a back up made I'm CWM won't work with TWRP. Otherwise great job I'm sure there will be many people that will appreciate this guide and not having to use fastboot or adb.
Edit: changed a few things in my post... It's late and my brain is toast. Also you can hold off on installing CWM and just install TWRP from the bootloader after renaming it just like the hboot.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
Correct you can install TWR that way as well and def.ly u can reboot to the bootloader instead. Just wanted to be a little detailed. Tx 4 the editing.
If you want to install TWR VIA the bootloader you would need to rename the TWR zip to PG86IMG...
Btw u can flash TWR via clockwork. You r only flashing a zip file so it does work.

hey guys what are the advantages of the eng hboot for are phones other than the 1.30 and the 1.40?
Do you run into the problem with the error for not being able make calls receiev texts..etc?
Yes forgot to mention this. That happen to a few users who have rooted their evo 3D. Just call sprint and they will reset your profile no questions ask. Just tell them no voice services. Its actually a 5 mins or less call. Think its their new fraud protection system kicking in.
u should be up and running in no time easy. They gonna back you remove the battery then put it back In while they update your profile. Then they will have you place a test call and then the Rep will call u to confirm you can recv calls also.

If am not mistake for the most part The ENG hboot is what unlocks NAND protection. Without the NAND unlock, we wouldn't be able to flash ROMs or have custom recovery. Hope this helps.

The ENG HBOOT gives you access to more fastboot commands. For the average user you will not notice the difference. The only time you may need it is if you soft brick your phone... the extra fastboot commands can help you recover. Bottom line is better have it to be safe cause there are no negative side effects.
thanks
Nice guide appreciate the time you took to put this together..

Does the wireless tethering work?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Once your are rooted any wireless tethering app should work. The wifi tether from Google on the market works. There are also some custom stock rom that includes the wifi tether app along with a working version of the sprint hotspot app.
Great guide..just a couple updates: CWM wouldn't download - failed all 3 times. But the way around it was turning the Hboot-ENG into a PG86IMG and went through the bootloader..did the same for TWP. Once in TWP i did the zip for SU.
Other than then, worked out great.
Beta key = cut and past simplest lol.

[Q] Hboot 1.490018 not supported?

Hi hope someone can help or point me in the right direction. Ive already unlocked/rooted, haved CWM installed on my phone and S-on. I want to S-off but revolutionary program says my device isn't supported. I have a Evo 3D GSM European Hboot 1.49.0018. How can i get the S-off? I tried to flash infected eternity Rom and bootlooped each time i tried. I wiped dalvik, data, cache etc...i was wondering if S-on has anything to do with me bootlooping? Thanks for your advice.
ROMS that are not using stock kernel (Please correct me if I'm wrong, I only been here on the EVO 3D forums for 2 weeks ), can't be flashed with S-ON.
I believe you can downgrade your hboot and go S-Off. How that exactly works, I have no clue unfortunately.
Okay....i've tried to flash 2 different Roms now and all i get is a boot loop. I just tried to flash shooter beats but with no luck. Can anyone else shed some light on this issue? Does anyone know how to downgrade Hboot to turn S-off? Or point me in the right direction please?
I had that same hboot and was able to downgrade it using Flashmaniac's tool in the Dev section. Just follow his instructions, it worked for me. It does state, however, you must have one of the listed cid numbers (which I had, you'll need to check yours). There's a free app on the market called cid checker, it will find this info for you.
Once you've downgraded your hboot you can follow the normal procedure to s-off with Revolutionary.
Hope this helps
By the way, I've heard you can still flash roms if you're S-on if you extract the boot.img from the zip file of the rom and flash this first through fastboot. I'm not sure exactly what the procedure is but there are threads about it in the Dev section. Please don't try it without reading up first though, as I don't know much about the risks involved, if any.
Mine was 0018, but I downgraded it to 0007 using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495657&highlight=vodaphone+hboot

Please give thanks if i've helped you!
Thanks for your responses friends. I managed to flash a rom with a stock kernel through CWM as was indicated in one of the posts. Thanks for that. I'm going to give the other options to S-off and downgrade a try tonight. I think the Evo is a lot harder to manage than the atrix and razr! I modded them phones no problem! I'll feedback to you tonight and let you know how it went.
Okay...i've downloaded flashmaniac tool for downgrading Hboot. I put my phone in USB debug mode, charge only, extract and run step 1, but nothing happens! I even tried step 2 but nothing! It seems that the program isn't seeing my phone. I don't have HTC sync installed, and i have the HTC drivers. So, i cant figure out whats wrong. I've even allowed install of unknown sources on my phone. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Did you make sure usb debugging was checked in settings??

hello i had problems with my unlocked, rooted but S ON evo with 0018 Hboot...
if you are S ON and want to flash a rom, here's the way :
1 Be near your PC.
2 extract boot.img from the zip you want to flash
3 flash the rom into recovery
4 DON'T REBOOT !!!
5 Power Off
6 go to fasbtoot USB
7 fastboot flash boot boot.img
8 reboot
9 done, worked for me
Hey,
My 3VO is not possible to S-OFF atm so I'm stuck with S-ON. To install ROMS that require S-OFF its easier to just enter recovery via fastboot. But that requires a computer.
The other solution is HTC Dumlock: http://teamw.in/project/htcdumlock
Using that method you can install roms on your phone without a computer.

Also it is a lot easier to just enter recovery from fastboot and install the ROM normally. Doing all that is just unnecessary to my knowledge.

your right, i remember back in the days, the first flash of my n1...
i applied this method after a normal flash and being stuck on withe htc screen... and someone on another thread told me to flash into recovery then flash the boo.img.
but yes do the whole flashing via fastboot is OK but in some roms like leedroid you cant choose some elements via aroma installer.
I myself can't say if aroma Installer works threw recovery via fastboot because I simply haven't tried it. I personally use HTC Dumlock and used it the other day to install LeeDroid. Aroma installer worked fine, everything worked except for the touch screen interface on the installer, had to use volume buttons, no big deal though.
I also have this Hboot and it can't be temporary rooted.
Is there any way to just root device with this Hboot? I don't want S-off.
Thanx for all your responses. After 8 hours today, i finally managed to s-off my evo. It wasn't easy. I finally changed my Hboot to 1.49.0007, using official firmware with European Hboot (PG86IMG.zip), xvi32.rar hex editor, adb, and fastboot. I had to relock my device through the process, and then use HTCDEV to unlock it once again. Once unlocked, i used revolutionary to gain root, recovery, and to S-off. There were a few tweaks which i had to make to get it to work. If anyone needs help please message me and i'm more than willing to help! I'm currently running Infected Rom Eternity 3.5 Nightly with no problems.

Yes there is, you have to unlock it with the HTC unlock tool (This will wipe your device so backup your phone, it will not wipe your SD card though):
http://htcdev.com/bootloader/
Download this onto your SD card:
http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Then download this pack of files onto your computer:
http://www.mediafire.com/?49156dz8d36xva3
After you have unlocked your bootloader with the HTC Tool.
Reboot into bootloader > fastboot and plug in a USB
Double click Open cmd in the pack of files you downloaded and type in "fastboot flash recovery recovery-GSM.img" (or recovery-CDMA.img if you have a CDMA phone)
When that is all done, boot into recovery mode and do a full backup. (nice to have a backup of complete unmodified stock ROM).
Last step, while staying in Recovery press install from zip file and find
Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
When thats all finished just reboot and you should have a rooted stock ROM with S-ON

I am not trying to be rude but I have wasted a LOT OF TIME with replies like this.
I have been using that toolkit for 6 months.
I CANNOT SEE HBOOT OR RECOVERY AND I NEED TO BE ABLE TO USE ADB TO ROOT THIS PHONE WITHOUT HAVING TO GET INTO RECOVERY.
THE TOOL IS AWESOME BUT YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO ACTUALLY SEE THE RECOVERY ON THE SCREEN TO GET ROOT WITH IT!
Thank you

Maybe your not asking the question correctly. You say you can't see hboot or recovery. Are you trying to get the phone into bootloader? If so pull your battery put backin then hold volume down and power button. This will load into bootloader. If your just attempting to get the phone rooted then yes the tool I posted will root the phone. If your wanting to be able to change some of the permissions then you will need to install superuser. Hopefully this helps. If not maybe someone else can figure out what you are wanting to do......
I cannot see HBOOT or Recovery.
My display is not working correctly for some reason. I have flashed the stock RUU and unlocked the bootloader via the toolkit.
Now I am stuck because I cannot see the recovery screen to actually install the superuser.zip that the toolkit put onto my sdcard.
Do you see what I am saying here?
If I could simply see my HBOOT and recovery screens I would have this phone rooted in 1 minute. I am looking for a way to root manually via adv or another method because I cannot see the recovery screen to know what buttons to click.

I'm no mean an expert here but reading your frustration posts since yesterday, here's my 2 cents, you may want to try it or wait for more suggestion from others
* I've read somewhere that some "Demo" phone came with a "Demo" Rom, which, has no Hboot and Recovery
* Read this post and try to flash an ENG Hboot onto your phone. ENG Hboot for Amaze 4G can be found in the S-Off thread
* After suscessfully flashed ENG HBoot using ADB command, you can then use fastboot to flash back to stock then root normally or using AIO Toolkit again to flash custom Recovery

Ignore this please, since ENG Hboot can only be flash when S-Off'ed. I really have no worthy suggested at this point and sorry for that

There is a tool called Android Flasher (Google it) which you can use to flash Hboot onto your phone. As for the Hboot I think you can pulled it out from Stock RUU using 7Zip. Once you have Hboot on the phone, the rest will be easy. I think maybe your phone was a Demo one, which, unfortunately doesn't come with Hboot and Recovery hence the reason it doesn't "update" Hboot and Recovery when flashing RUU
I have already flashed an RUU which completed successfully. Would this stock RUU still not flash HBOOT on my phone?
I am using the phone to type this.
I can power off and then hold vol down and power and the phone will do flash a red notification light up top. If I press down volume once then power it will reboot but I of course only see a.black screen.

No it wont change it. It can only be changed after s-off. I would try to s-off. Jbear gives the option to flash a different hboot at the end of a successful s-off. Then hopefully you can finally get this thing rolling.
Definately will.
I thought root was a prereq for s off though. I'll be trying it anyways.

It's good to know that you are - at least - still have a Rom on your phone.
I think the reason why you don't have HBoot and recovery when flashing RUU is because what RUU does is just "updating" whatever img that your phone has on it and when it didn't detected Hboot and recovery, it just skipped updating those img. Long story short, I guess you are lacking HBoot and recovery on your phone. We may simply solv this by flashing stock Hboot and recovery onto the phone using tool such as Android Flasher. Again, I'm no expert on this and has never tried this before so take it with a grain of salt and do some research before give it a go, or, you can wait a little longer to get others' opinion. I don't want to be the one who bricked your phone by giving poor advices.
Be patient, at least you have a fully functional phone for now.
I edited this out...
Good luck

Now I totally understand... I think . Never have heard of this happening or have read where someone has lost the bootloader but yet phone still boots. There is the command with Hasoon's Amaze tool that will put your phone in the bootloader screen. If your still not able to view if you have tried this then hopefully someone else might have an answer for you as I have no other ideas to get you into the bootloader screen and making it visable. Good luck!

hboot screen looks like this...
bootloader
reboot
reboot bootloader
power down
the screen starts with the "bootloader" already selected...push volume down
1 time to select reboot
2 times to select reboot bootloader..etc etc...
push power to MAKE/activate the selection.
4ext recovery is touch based and since you cant see you may want to install clockwork mod from the market as you use the volume buttons for this too!
but i dont use it...(but i have! on this phone!! I just dont know how good it works reliable flashing etc)
maybe get a spare sd card and format it so we all know its blank.
then place the right file on the card
so we know its the only file
then you can count the volume clicks to the right choices.
heres hope for you buddy!... my suspicions are as follows.
flashing a different hboot using
the linked hassoons toolkit then CWM then a reboot may return your screen to power on during the times you need it...
BUT BUT BUT!!!!
i do not know if that is advisable or bad or perfectly fine...anyone else know?????

[Q] Can you help me install Rom on Rezound

So I'm very new to this and so far I have my bootloader unlocked and my device is rooted. However when I tried to load any roms I get stuck with and HTC white screen once I restart after installing the room. I'm always able to restore my backup using CWM but now I'm stuck and not sure what I'm doing incorrectly. I read somewhere that my HBoot probably needs to be updated but I can't find anything that explains how to do that.
When I go into my bootloader what is see is below. I'm so stuck, I'm not sure what I'm missing or what I should be doing. I'm very new to this and have tried reading a lot of stuff, but I just can't seem to get it. So the more step by step info you can give to me the better. Thanks in advance for you help.

You're probably not flashing the boot.img since you are S-ON. To flash a ROM, you need adb set up.
Download the ROM you want, and open it with an unzip program like WinRAR. In your adb setup, navigate to the platform-tools folder and drag and drop the boot.img there. Once that's done, delete it from the ROM's .zip. Drop the modified .zip onto your internal storage or SD card and flash it through recovery. Make sure you factory reset and wipe cache first. Once it's flashed, reboot to the bootloader.
Now, right-click while holding the Shift key in the platform-tools folder and open a command window. Select BOOTLOADER on the phone so it says "FASTBOOT USB". Type in the command window "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and wait for it to say OKAY. Now type "fastboot reboot" and you should be headed into the ROM from there for initial setup!
If you're using Plain-Andy or another recent KitKat ROM, I recommend you use PhilZTouch Recovery instead which is like an advanced ClockworkMod.
Your on old radios..... After you get a ROM running by as stated before, open the zip, place the boot.img on the root of your platform-tools folder on your computer, and initiating the command while in fastboot on your phone:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
I would suggest going s-off, very easy now via rum-runner, after running rum-rummer then run a RUU.... Refer to rav3nt3ch guide on downgrading going up to newest radios, it will take you completely back to stock locked and stock recovery. But after running the RUU unlock, flash recovery, and flash ROM again. The newest hboot is 2.28.000 and newest radio is 2.23.10.0123/2.23.10.0124r
But only use a RUU after going s-off. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY suggest it.... Or wait I think you can update radios via a ph98IMG.zip but I'm not sure.... I think you can... But that also requires s-off.... So..... pm me if that made no sense and I will provide any help you need.... Or just explain going s-off and RUU and such with help in finding things....

I would strongly suggest going S-OFF, just use rumrunner but make sure you backup first... I can't stress this enough, make a complete nandroid backup with TWRP or CWM before you start, it is common in the S-OFF process with rumrunner to wipe the device (at least partially so it won't boot). Restoring the nandroid is the easiest fix, from there updating radios or anything else is simple.

Your S-OFF, it is easy... just flash the radios and firmware (bootloader) like any ROM, put the ZIP on SD card, start TWRP/CWM, flash the the firmware.zip file and reboot. Done.

[GUIDE] EVO 3D root/S-OFF/downgrade to bootloader 1.49 (Wire Trick)[NOOB FRIENDLY]

Index:
1st post: Root the HTC EVO 3D
2nd post: S-OFF and completely unlock the EVO 3D
Rooting the HTC EVO 3D
When it comes to only rooting the device, it works somewhat as easy as a nexus.
To the users who are already familiar with rooting, the (very) quick instructions are as follows:
► Unlock bootloader from htcdev.com
► Flash custom recovery
► Flash root
►► Easy huh? though so.
Click to collapse
For the completely unfamiliar users, here's the real deal:
Prerequisites:
► You need ADB and fastboot: get the SDK from HERE that has it all.
► Alternatively: get the portable ADB and fastboot from HERE, but i don't offer support for those. (Thanks for the mysterious user who uploaded them to box).
► You need either 4EXT or CWM recoveries... your choice (thanks @monx®)
► You need the root binary, get SuperSU zip file.
Click to collapse
Unlock the Bootloader:
► After setting it all up, pick up your EVO 3D, go to settings, development options, and turn on USB Debugging.
► Open up a cmd on PC, and type this:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
►► This will make the phone reboot to bootloader.
► After it has booted, hit the power button to go to fastboot (don't press and hold, just press a small click)
► If you see FASTBOOT at the top, and not FASTBOOT USB, click the volume buttons to go up and down so that the screen refreshes into FASTBOOT USB at the top... if that makes any sense
► Type this into the cmd:
Code:
fastboot oem get_identifier_token
►► This will give you a bunch of numbers, i can't explain this better than HTCDevs themselves, so go exactly HERE and follow their guide (you need to be signed in to their website to be able to view the instructions)
► So after you hit submit and get the unlock_code.bin do this:
Code:
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
►► Again.. HERE is the HTC guide, but in short: after executing this command, use the volume buttons to select yes, and press the power button to select it.
►► I cannot stress this enough... THE ABOVE STEP WILL WIPE ALL OF YOUR DATA!!!... Should i make this a size 7? you won't like it.

Flash a custom recovery:
►► You have two options for recoveries here: 4EXT, and CWM (or ClockWorkMod). Personally, i prefer 4EXT.
► Execute this command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery NAME.img
►► NAME is the actual name of your recovery .img file.

R00T!
► You're now in fastboot, highlight bootloader and press the power button
►► You should wait a bit for the unlocked bootloader to make its scans
► Select recovery from there and press the power button to boot to it
► Remember the SuperSU zip file we downloaded earlier? We need to put that on the phone's sdcard. Two ways:
1) Take out the sdcard from the phone, plug it in the PC, and put the zip there
2) Toggle USB storage (for 4EXT) or mount USB storage (for CWM) while plugged in to the PC to access the sdcard from there and put the zip there
► Now hit back till you get to the first menu
► Select install zip from sdcard
► Choose zip from sdcard
► Look for the SuperSu zip file and select it, then hit yes
►► After flashing, comes the REALLY hard part:
► Hit back to the first menu
► Select reboot system now (VERY hard! )

Why another guide? Well... I didn't find any guide that really helped me understand what i should do to update from ICS to JB or KK or whatever... So i started doing things by myself, i did it with 2 3 HTC Evo 3Ds and both worked fine at the end, so i started writing this guide... have fun! Thread also available at rirozizo.blogspot.com (WITH PICTURES!)
Scenario: You're on ICS, latest update, latest bootloader. You're either on stock ROM, or custom ROM. Your bootloader is locked or unlocked. You're S-ON.
Solution: S-OFF your bootloader, downgrade it, get ICS+ ROMs (like JB or KK)
Time to do the process: I did it in 1 Hour 15 Minutes
Requirements: Linux OS (either native, dual booted (ME!), or LiveCD... You pick), HTC Evo 3D, USB Cable (with data transfer support), an internet connection for the downloads, an microSD, and wire.
WARNING: It is important to backup all the contents that are on your microSD before doing anything. I did the wire trick on two Evo 3Ds, and one of them corrupted the microSD, so we had to format it.
Now let's start.
►In Linux, download adb and fastboot using "sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb" and "sudo apt-get install android-tools-fastboot".
►Download THIS flashable root .zip file (don't extract that... please)
►Download juopunutbear's (Call that "juo" ) wire trick script HERE and extract it. (pick the appropriate .tgz file for your device)
►Download a ROM to your liking (ICS, JB, KK, Froyo... you can do anything after this guide )
►Transfer both the ROM and the root to your phone... keep juo on PC
►Go to unlimited.io and learn how to do the wire trick there.
►Download THIS PG86IMG.zip file, DON'T DO ANYTHING TO IT!
Click to collapse
Note: To flash on Rogers, you can just mod the model ID from PG8630000 to PG8631000 in the zip file, so sometimes you should DO something
Backup if you need to
►►You can backup your apps using any app-backup app, we won't go through it
►►Go to recovery
►Type "adb reboot recovery"
►►Make a NANDROID Backup
►Go to "backup and restore", and backup.
►►It took 733 seconds to finish the huge backup i was doing... so yeah... take a bath or something in the mean time.
►PLEASE, transfer the backups you made to your PC, don't leave them on the microSD just to be on the safe side
Click to collapse
Get to stock rooted (Skip if you're already on stock)
If you're on a custom ROM, you'll need to flash stock... not just any stock... but RUU stock.
►Get the RUU that is for your phone (you may google that)
►►Here's a tip: type "fastboot getvar all" and look for "(bootloader) version-main:"... check the number next to it, and download the RUU that has that number.
Now flash RUU... flash? yes... FLASH!! How? via fastboot... What? Yes!
►Get to fastboot (turn the phone off, hold power and volume down), plug it in the PC
►Type this in a terminal "fastboot oem lock"
►►Now your bootloader is locked, we can flash RUU
►Open up the RUU.exe from windows
►Hit next two times (you're gonna have to check some checkboxes too), and leave it open
►►Don't start any process from it, just keep it there
►Open a file explorer (Like My Computer, or whatever...)
►Type in the path textbox "%TEMP%"
►Sort the files by "date modified" and open the first folder you see there
►►You'll see a bunch of files there, and probably a folder too
►Look for "rom.zip" (you might even go to that folder too to check inside it)
►Copy "rom.zip" to somewhere easily accessible
►►Now back to linux
►Type "fastboot erase cache"
►Once that's done type "fastboot oem rebootRUU"
►►You'll see a black screen with a silver HTC in the middle
►Type "fastboot flash zip X" where X is the path to the rom.zip file we got earlier.
►Now leave it there
►►It took me 426.617 seconds for the process to finish... you may go eat something... maybe relax in the bathroom if you want
►►Now once the terminal says it's done, you might see the HTC green progress bar stuck at 95%... don't worry, it's nothing... it's a bug in RUU mode, so just type "fastboot reboot" and you'll reboot to stock ROM.
Click to collapse
I'm on stock ROM... now what?
ROOT DAT STOCK! (Optional, but i did it just in case)
►►So now we need to root the stock ROM we have.
►►To root, we need to unlock bootloader first.
►Go to htcdev.com and follow the guide there to unlock your bootloader
►Once that's done, download THIS recovery and flash in fastboot it using "fastboot flash recovery cwm.img"
►Once that's done, hit "BOOTLOADER" in the list (using the power button), wait for about 5 seconds, then hit "RECOVERY"
►►You're now in CWM recovery.
►►Now that you're inside the recovery, volume up is up, volume down is down, power is enter
►Go to install zip from sdcard
►Choose zip from sdcard
►Locate the root .zip file we transfered earlier
►Hit the "yes" button hidden between these "no no no" buttons
►►You might want to repeat the flashing process if it gives an error... Second time is guaranteed to work
►►You're now rooted.
►"***Go back***" to the first menu, and "reboot system now".
Click to collapse
S-OFF
►Once booted, go to settings, developer options, and enable USB debugging there
►Then in linux, navigate to where we extracted juo's zip, and open a terminal there
►Type these commands "chmod 755 ControlBear" and hit enter
►The type "./ControlBear" and hit enter
►►Now it'll guide you through... it keeps saying "beer beer"... yeah... the dev likes to have fun, like me
►When it says "Do the wire trick now" do it (using unlimited.io's guide).
Click to collapse
IMPORTANT: If the script errors out with a "Still sober" error... just redo the script, it'll succeed then...
FINALLY, YOU ARE S-OFFed... too much caps huh? oh well... It was a long process... you can start feel the sense of accomplishment there.
Downgrade to BL 1.49
►►Now to downgrade bootloader to 1.49....
►►Remember that PG86IMG.zip file?
►Put it on the root of your sdcard (so don't put it inside any folder)
►Boot to bootloader
►Press BOOTLOADER button...
►Now we wait until the installation is finished... of course, press YES when it says so.
►►You're now on bootloader 1.49, S-OFFed, and with a custom recovery...

Well? What are you waiting for? Go flash a Kitkat ROM! GO!!
NOTE: You might wanna get 4EXT recovery to be able to flash kitkat ROMs, good luck!
If you're already on ics you don't need to flash ruu.
For the wire trick it's not necessary to root the device.
All you have to do before is to unlock via htcdev.
For downgrading I'd recommend juopunutbear gb hboot from their site.

you need to be on full stock for juopunutbear to work, otherwise it'll say be on stock...
you need to be rooted for juopunutbear to work, otherwise it'll say be rooted...
and i think the script os different between ICS and GB... not just hboot... meh

Good but if you want KK ROM, you must use the latest 4EXT recovery touch, otherwise it will fail
Also this recovery is much easier for use then CWM

In the OP you stated "Scenario: You're on ICS, latest update, latest bootloader", so I'd assume it's already stock ICS.
I did the wire trick on 2 EVOs, just unlocked, not rooted (as stated on juopunut site).
The gb hboot I mentioned is the 1.49.9999 hboot (look here) for downgrading afterwards.

Yep, but if someone is already on stock, he could skip the ruu step.
Also it's not necessary to root the stock rom when you want to flash a custom rom that is already rooted.
I did the steps as follows (in short):
- unlock bootloader (the htcdev method)
- do the wire trick (controlbear)
- flash the juopunutbear hboot in fastboot (1.49.9999)
- flash the recovery image in fastboot (latest 4ext)
- flsh any custom rom
Starting point on both phones was stock ics locked, s-on, hboot 1.53.0007
Don't get me wrong, I only wanted to help to get your guide a little leaner.

yeah yeah sure, I'm not getting you wrong...
I'll update the guide soon, I'll add "optional" after the stock title... and add "optional" after rooting (that's what i did so i think I'll just keep it)
thanks for the help

Yup i even S-Off from mwakious3Drom® ROM! I tried and thank god it worked as getting back to stock was too much of a trouble lol.
Oh and about 4EXT recovery yes you do need the latest as i couldn't instal the Cyanogenmod 4.4 without the latest update.
If i downgrade to 1.49 with this - HTC EVO 3D GSM (shooteru) GB HBOOT - 1.49.9999 , what version do i need to choose on revolutionary website 1,49,0007 or 1,49,0008

Here you can find the latest 4ext. Flash it and you can install every rom. Root is not required because all custom roms are pre-rooted.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery 4EXT_Recovery_Touch_v1.0.0.6_RC1.img

you're gonna have a bad time:
-juo dropped support for windows
-windows needs drivers... they act weird on fastboot
-a VM won't do too as the drivers of windows will be needed... which act weird

So..i have to give up. Thank you for fast reply !
