[Q]Unlock twice(?) bootloader - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I bought a second hand atrix, it has Android 2.2.2 with motoblur, and it is probably rooted.
I want to install CM7 ( beta ), so i want to follow the steps of the tutorial, and one of the first ones is unlock bootloader.
I don't know if the bootloader is already unlocked. Is there any way to know if it is unlocked? If not, nothing happens if I unlock it twice, right?
I am pretty affraid of bricking the phone...
Thanks!

While the phone boots up, the text "unlocked" should appear if its unlocked.
Sent from my mobile

It doesn't appear anything.
But if i hold the volume button (down) i can get to fastboot, android recovery....so it means it is unlocked, right?

Im scared to unlock bootloader again. Second attempt?

So guys I really wanna unlock the bootloader and flash some roms but this is my third atrix. Im using the 14 day grace period very very graciously. Anyways first atrix kept locking up- exchanged. Second one I tried to unlock it with pudding. Did the rsd thing with the. Sbf file and I was doing it. Then toward the end it failed. Complete brick- exchanged.
Anyways is there something else I should do, possibly a different route? Im using an AT&T atrix. Thanks.
Wait for official release and get it officially unlocked?

I can wait for the release, but are they unlocking it with it. For sure?
Well, IMO better hope for it than risk another brick...

I think you might have returned the first 2 prematurely.
1st one probably could have factory reset or flashed a new sbf
2nd one was probably a fixable soft brick.
So I'd say you're safe, but up to you as there's always a risk.
Here is what I did.
1. If you were to update to the OTA 4.5.91. Or already on the OTA 4.5.91 you can still unlock your bootloader.
2. Flash pudding only SBF so you can unlock the bootloader. http://diamantephoto.com/fastboot.rar direct link. Flash this one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261 Original Post about pudding.
It will go to a text only 14 option screen and say something like boot failed 0x1000. Don't freak out and tell me you bricked you phone blah blah blah. You still have to unlock the bootloader by choosing fastboot from your phone and connecting it to the computer via usb. Make sure you have ADB with fastboot tools installed on you computer.
Open command prompt from you computer and type fastboot oem unlock. It'll display warning about voiding warranty and a unique device id. Type again fastboot oem unlock ############. The # are the unique device numbers. Don't type # it wont work. The instructions are posted on the pudding thread if you would like to read more about it.
Then type fastboot reboot to reboot. Unlock should be displayed on top left of screen and it'll take 5 long mins to boot up.
3.Then you need to install CWM and root.
You'll find instructions in the developers form. But if your lazy here is the CWM link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138541 follow the instructions or every time you reboot you will loose CWM. For root there are two available for gingerbread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1140110 I used this one and got root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1138204 I hear this works too.. Haven't tested read the post if you want to use this method.
As always don't blame me for bricking if you happen to do so. DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. these are the steps I took to unlock and everything works great. Absolutely no problems with my phone after wards.
One thing unlocking your bootloader will format/erase data. Basically a factory data reset so make sure you backup everything with titanium or you favorite app. I would not restore system apps as i've had a few problems with email and motoblur force closes.

not sure. i got a leaked 4.5.91 build, it's not unlocked (although early beta does). you still have to flash the pudding img yourself.
delect this post
The returns were genuine. I did a factory reset on the first one and it still kept locking up, on the wake up. Had to pull battery out to turn back on. Multiple times. Second one was a complete brick. I couldn't get into rsd, wouldn't turn on and computer didn't recognize it in any mode. Im pretty familiar with rsd, used it with OG and X but this one got me walking om egg shells.

hmm you are very unlucky then. You're the only one to hard brick from pudding. Probably advise you not to do anything with your phone.

4.1.83 is a great point to unlock the bootloader. DO NOT install the 4.5.91 OTA udpate, too risky to hard brick if you flashed an sbf. Of course, you don't have to sbf back anymore, but I would steer way clear of that when there are perfectly good options available. Only use customized ones like Kenneth's or the CherryBlur ROM. More will start flowing soon.
So what your advising is not to even unlock it. All I really want is volume wake.

That's the exact opposite of what I'm advising. I knew I was taking some level of risk when I unlocked, but it's a risk well worth taking. Very, very low failure rate. Recoverable. But I can't accept the risk for your phone.

i used update.zip ..did not flash back to 1.83...update.zip (blur 1.83 etc etc) was from leaked moto servers...i have new bootloader cause my andriod recovery is different...of course BL is locked....can i still unlock??

When you root a phone does it also automatically unlock the bootloader?

I used the one click method for my Nexus s 4G... does that method unlock the bootloader also or is there a seperate step?
If you didn't need to wipe out everything on your phone, your bootloader is probably still locked.
To confirm, first turn off your phone (power it off completely) then turn it on while holding the up volume button. This will boot into the bootloader which will display whether or not it is locked.
Also, during a normal boot, you'll see an unlocked padlock icon where the boot loader is unlocked.

Rooting the phone will not unlock your bootloader. But seeing how you have a Nexus, the bootloader is super easy to unlock. Check out the nexus s forum, but I am pretty sure it is just a command in ADB..."fastboot oem unlock". Don't go off of that though, definitely check the forum.
yes using the one click will unlock your bootloader, its how the nexus s devices root
also to get bette rhelp on it next time post in the thread of the tool

You didn't read what it does first?

bootloader unlocked?

Is there a way to check if your bootloader is unlocked? I know on HTC devices you reboot bootloader and it will tell you. Does the atrix have something like this?
After reboot, should appear "unlocked" in the top left of the screen.
Atrix - "CM7"
Are you sure? do you have to unlock the BL to root it?

No.
Answered your other thread.
Also yes, you cannot have an unlocked bootloader without "Unlocked" appearing on startup screen, and vice versa. So that's the 100% reliable check if your BL is locked or not.
FOLLOW A TUTORIAL (XDA FORUM)!
Iff all goes well, appears "unlocked"!

Bootloader can be unlocked without "unlocked" being on boot screen. Once its unlocked it remains unlocked, even if you don't have unlock functionality because a sbf or fruitcake was flashed. Remember, this removes the word "unlocked" from the boot screen.
Edit........search for thread about checking ODM Fuse. This is only way to be sure if you are unlocked or not. If I remember a value of 1 = locked, 0 = unlocked.

I'm not sure it's the easiest way but you can go to fastboot with method wrote here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2221102. But first you will have to flash jb V20* ROM. If you have first screen where you are asked if you want to unlock bootloader = locked. If second screen with quick guidance = unlocked.
WARNING! Be careful if you don't want to unlock bootloader watch which button you press.
You still didn't answer his question. I would like to know as well. Is there a way to tell if my bootloader is unlocked or locked?

Of course it's locked, every phone you get will have bootloader locked. Unless you have an S4 or S3 as far as I know.

As far as I know, not every phone comes with a bootloader closed unless some phones are able to change roms and stuff without needing to open this.
If your on JB, just go to the dialer and type 3845#*760# then scroll to the bottom to bootloader unlock check. (if you have differernt L9 - 3845#*7xx# - your numbers)
Another way to check is to go to software update mode by switching off the phone then holding volume up while inserting the USB cable. If your bootloader is unlocked, it will say so in the top corner of the S/W update screen.
If you havnt unlocked it, it will be locked by default.

How to tell if i unlocked my bootloader on lg p769

I received a warranty exchange and it came with 20f preinstalled so i did adb reboot oem-unlock. How can i tell if my BL is unlocked? No root
Get into software upgrade mode. Turn the phone off. Plug the phone into your computer, and hold volume up and down (might be another combination like volume up and home. Keep trying.)
If the bootloader is unlocked, it should say Bootloader unlocked on the top left of the screen. If not, it will say nothing.
Or just dial 3845#*769# and scroll all the way down, hit bootloader unlock check then click the button, too easy

Yeah it does, just type it in and scroll down then you hit the bootloader and you will be able ti see if your bootloader is unlocked or not. It won't unlock the bootloader but you can see if its locked or not.

No, that does not work (well on some roms, with the proper u-boot it will). The best way to check is putting phone in s/w upgrade mode. If it's unlocked (and on a V20F, V20H or a unlockable jellybean U-boot) it will say Unlocked Bootloader.
